Question asked by Zla'od

Happy New Year your eminence! I’ll ask an easy question for the occasion. Since you are a film buff, have you ever seen “Meetings With Remarkable Men?” (1979), directed by Peter Brooke and starring Terence Stamp? It’s based on the true story of a man who wandered Central Asia searching for the truth. You can watch the whole thing on You-Tube, if it sounds like something you’d like.

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Zla’od,

I have never seen this nor heard of it..sounds unique.

    Yes, I enjoy films.

Thank you for your new year wishes..same to you also.

Question asked by irene

dear rinpoche is there a practice which enables a spontaneous arising of bodhicitta? through discipline one can perform acts of generosity without any true compassion. what then is compssion? the feeling (which would be self gratifying)or the act(which benefits others)?some teachings say the act of giving is in itself a practice by which the compassion will eventually arise. but without the motivation- perceived through feelings-does the action still have any merit?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Irene,

Study up on Shantideva’s treatise Bodhisattva-chai-avatara. It is a masterpiece to discover the bodhicitta within us. Combine it with the practice of Avalokitesvara in any form would be powerful.

Even if acts of generosity are done for self gratifying feeling at first,it is ok. It is better to do good acts with not so perfect motivation then to never do them.
As you perform acts that benefit others combined with study of dharma, your motivation will change naturally. Your focus from self gratification will switch to truly benefitting others. Start somewhere for now.

Question asked by ng

Dear Rinpoche,

During the invocation section of the Guru Yoga, for a normal person, is it just make believe or do the Buddha's really do come ? Am I suppose to feel anything when they come ? Because I don't. For Rinpoche, I would 110% believe the buddha's would come. If I just make believe that the buddha's come, am I just lying to myself ? or is it that i (god forbid) lack faith ???!! Since I can't talk to buddha's yet, I would 100% believe in your answer.
thank you so much !

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Ng,

When you invite any Buddha they DEFINITELY COME. Even if we cannot perceive them at this time. Their power to appear is fully ripe and they have great compassion for all those that call upon them even if we are normal people. Their compassion has no barriers.

To believe they are here with you is not pretending but creating the causes to see them in actuality in the future.

Continue your practice and devotion to Tsongkapa for the rest of your days. It is excellent for you and those around you. I am very happy for you.

    Good luck to you.

Question asked by Andrey

Dear Rinpoche,

Many thanks to you for let asking you directly.

Few month ago I felt strange attraction towards Vajrayogini thangkas. Then I found Her mantras at visiblemantra.org and vajrayogini.com and recited both variants for about few hundreds times. Then I felt large interest to Dharma and study about Tantric Buddhism all the time. I stopped to recite Vajrayogini mantras immediately after I received answer from one of your students, he said it's not recommendable to use this mantra without initiation.

Question 1: Can I expect something wrong would happens, as I recited mantra without permission, but didn't know about it?

Also, a week ago I received Chakrasamvara Root Tantra book as a gift from some publishing company. I didn't ask them, but really dreamt to take a look at this sacred text.

Question 2: How can I use this gift, am I able to read and study it, or probably it was a sign of something else for me to do?

Please advise, I'm novice to Buddhism, living in a country with no Buddhist tradition and really disappointed what to do.

Wish you peace and love from all beings surrounding you!

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Andrey,

    1. Keep your attraction towards VY. Keep an image of Her and make offerings, prostrations, flowers, incense, water, mandala offerings, etc. In this way you make a strong connection with Her. Pray to Her you will be able to do this practice in the future.

    2. Something will not happen because you recited Her mantra prematurely.
    3. The Heruka Root tantra book, wrap in cloth and keep on your altar. You should not read prior to empowerment. But by keeping on you altar, you will make a connection to it. On our shrines, we should have a representation of Buddha, dharma (book), and mind of Buddha (stupa) anyway. So that is auspicious you have received this book. I rejoice for you.
    4. I would recommend you go on the youtube and see the teachings I gave on Tsongakapa Guru Yoga. Learn up well and enter into a 100,000 migtzeyma retreat for now. This is a good way for you to start.

If you have questions please contact Wai Meng in the E-division of Kechara House.

    I wish you luck.

Question asked by Becky

Do you feel that your personality is similar in some ways to that of your parents (birth or adoptive)?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

Who I am and how I think is very different than both sets of parents I have. My personality is so radically different than their’s …and that is why I left home at 15….But the method I carry out some things sometimes resemble my step mom Dana.

I like my birth Dad Lobsang Gyatso because he is very devoted to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He has offered many precious items from Tibet to His Holiness. And has ‘worked’ for His Holiness in Taiwan for over twenty years.

I like my step mom Dana because she was a very kind hearted, giving and very capable lady. I watched her be generaous with so many people with zero agenda. She was giving naturally and very helpful to people she don’t know.

Question asked by Fat Ham

Dear Rinpoche, I've been doing Gaden Lha Gyema every day for several years. But more and more, I think that Tsongkhapa was probably wrong about his interpretation of Indian philosophy. (He was clearly a genius, but I feel he misunderstood other people's writings.) Would it be better then to give up Tsongkhapa practice for some other kind, maybe just Sakyamuni?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

If you feel Tsongkapa is wrong, then it is ok for you to do other practice. No problem.

Question asked by Jacinto T.

Rinpoche, approximately how much time per day should be devoted to chanting or doing sadanas? Perhaps you could suggest a range…?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

That is up to you. No fixed time amount is necessary.

No issues or problems there for any time you set.

Question asked by John Smallberries

If you couldn’t be a Buddhist, what would your second-choice religion be?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

That is a real good question. I like your question.
I guess I would be Hindu.

    Thank you.

Question asked by Aya

Dear Rinpoche, forgive what may be a silly question, but this one has me puzzled: you speak English and Tibetan. Your relatives in Wusu probably speak Mandarin, Oirat Mongolian, and Uyghur. What language do you communicate in?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

I do not communicate or write them directly. I have assistants that speak Mandarin with them and relay messages back and forth for me.

It’s not a silly question. I am ok with it. Thanks.

Question asked by Audrey

I watched the video you posted about your thoughts on HH Dalai Lama. I agree with you that we should definitely listen to H.H. because he has done so much for the welfare of others. I’ve always had the highest regards for H.H. and will always do. I truly appreciate what you shared and I feel your sincerity and devotion.

From reading your blog, I found out that you grew up in America. I am sure you celebrated Christmas back then. What was your most memorable Christmas moment?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

My best Christmas was when finally I was able to leave home and be on my on in Los Angeles. It was a very lonely Christmas, but it was a Christmas where I had freedom. So to answer you, it was my first Christmas in LA when I was 16 years old. Thanks.

Question asked by Jonis

Your Eminence,

It’s hard to fathom some of the very personal questions they ask you. You are so kind to oblige and entertain when you don’t have to. For tantric reason you do not need to answer. For privacy reasons, it is no one’s business and they HAVE NO RIGHT TO ASK is how I see it. It’s hard to believe some ppl HAVE TO BE SURE WHAT YOU PRACTICE AND DON’T PRACTICE in order to have confidence in you because other ppl talk and gossip about you. Even other ppl who are Rinpoches? Is that reflecting well?  Well, excuse me for saying: but who cares what they say about you as you BENEFIT ME SO MUCH. Thank you for that. I just see if you benefit me and that is all. Others will say what they say. Even HH Dalai Lama has massive amount of criticisms and people who do not agree with him, but so what? He is still great.

According to tantric code, please correct me if I am wrong, under no circumstances do we reveal our Yidam (personal practice deity) and our dharma protector. It is said the picture or images of these Beings must be kept secret in our homes/shrines. The masters and senior practitioners never keep open images of their yidam and their dharma protector is kept from everyone’s sight no matter who the protector is. If revealed, it is said, it lessens our chances to get attainments? People actually know that and still ask. Or ppl do not know enough dharma and show their deep ignorance by asking. After all what have we done with our lives compared to you.

I am sorry if I sound angry or upset. But I feel for you. Please keep teaching. Keep speaking. Keep being who you are. You are not my guru, because I can’t really get to my guru. He is too far and busy. But you sure help me understand so much more. What better spiritual friend than you do I have on the net.

From Jonis

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Jonis,

I opened this section hoping to benefit ppl with their questions. But of course ppl with various motivations will write appropriate and inappropriate questions.

    1. You are right, according to the tantric codes, we never reveal the deities we are practicing. Ppl who asked who your deity is, clearly shows their ignorance or lack of respect.

    2. I choose to answer what questions I like and I do not need to answer any questions I do not wish to. I answer the questions when and if I have time. I am not obligated by anyone to answer at any time. I will not engage in political questions or questions that disparage. I am not interested in those.

    3. If ppl appreciate the tremendous amount of time, energy and effort I put into the blog, it reflects their mind clearly. If they don’t, I am sorry.

Thank you for you appreciation comments here. I am thankful.

Question asked by Phillip

THIS IS JUST SO AMAZING, I totally agree with what you have said. I know what I’m doing, I don’t need people to come judge me. You have shown me that I can be strong in what I believe. Of course, I will not always please everyone, but at least I do not harm anyone, and I think this is a good start.  Thank you for this inspirational answer, I feel much better now that I can also make a stand for what I believe and say, “Respect my freedom to express myself.”  Please don’t be bothered by what has been said, I WILL SUPPORT YOU because in more ways than one you have helped me and many people whom I have shared your teachings with. For this fact alone I believe in you. Wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  1. Response by tsemtulku

What a powerful message. I thank you so much. I will not entertain any more political questions again.

I will be who I am …life is too short to pretend to be anything else.

Question asked by Martin

Dear Rinpoche,
Please excuse me but I would like to hear the answer to this question from you in order to be sure 100% that it is true: Are you a Dorje Shugden practitioner ? I have this question because you cite Trijang Rinpoche who was Shugden practitioner. I would like to request from you a short answer please. One dear to me Rinpoche said that you are Shugden practitioner because everybody in Nepal sais that. But some of your disciples say that you are not. If you are not a Shugden practitioner than please make a 5 or 10 seconds video in which you state this personally because may be many people will change their mind and would listen to you better.
Grateful for all your care and teachings,
Martin
P.S.I wish you from today on may you never have bitterness or disappointments from your disciples !!! May you be happy happy happy !!! So many people are changed for the better dramatically from your teachings, so many continue to discover happiness and fulfillment and freedom because of you and this will continue in the future ! So thank you so much for this !!! And happy holidays !!!

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Martin,

It is sad that politics is brought here. It’s truly sad that all that I do, my work, efforts, 30 years given to the dharma is judged on this one basis…But I do understand where you are coming from. I do excuse you for asking. I am sad other people talk to you regarding this as it reflects their minds.

I do not have to justify to anyone what I practice or not. If people like me for who I am, then fine. If they don’t it’s ok.
I am an American, and I grew up with religious freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of worship and freedom of expression, and I am use to being who I am and free. So I reserve the right to not be pushed into a corner to answer this or that if I choose not to. My life is my life. But I will entertain this for this one time.

I quote Trijang Rinpoche because he is the guru of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the guru of my Root guru. He is the guru of all my 14 gurus in fact. So when I quote him, it is not because he was a Dorje Shugden practitioner, but because he was an erudite scholar of the highest quality, meditation master, and one of the greatest lamas of Tibet to bring dharma out. His Holiness Dalai Lama often quotes from him also I have heard myself during teachings.

I have already made a video of how I feel of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. See here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JAC3JUdq3s

MY ANSWER IS EVERYONE SHOULD FOLLOW WHAT H.H. THE DALAI LAMA SAYS. H.H. Dalai Lama has our welfare in his heart. And he works so hard for everyone. We must appreciate him, respect him and wish him very long life. I fold my hands to His Holiness always from my heart. No, we should not practice this protector.I have submitted my signed signature to my Monastery to this effect already. The end.

I will not entertain such political questions anymore on my personal blog space.

On a happier note, I thank you for your good wishes which I think is from your heart. I am so humbled and happy to know my talks, thoughts and scarce knowledge has benefitted people and even affected their lives in such a positive way. That is the purpose of my existence and the purpose of my life. I will devote the rest of my life to bringing benefit/dharma to many as much as I can.

Happy Holidays to you and everyone.

    Tsem Rinpoche

Question asked by Martin B.

Dear Rinpoche, if I chant 10 malas of Setrap a day (I already did One Million) – can I replace the Serkym and Praise to Setrap, because I don't have conductive conditions to do them every day? (I don't have a place for altar – so my mind is the altar) ?
My best wishes to Your Eminence!!!

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Martin,

Each practice has it’s own benefits. One does not cover the other.

The praise, serkym and mantra has their individual function and benefits.

    Example:

Serkym is to offer a liquid/drink that has been purified/blessed into uncontaminated bliss/wisdom to the mind of Setrap to create tremendous merits to avert our negative karma. Offering these items to a mind of a Buddha creates the causes to achieve Bliss/wisdom which is the highest of tantric achievements. Or the goal of tantric achievements.

Mantra can create meditative stabilization in the mind. To calm the mind and channel or chi/winds correctly for many mental and physical benefits. It can help the mind to achieve calmness.

Praise is excellent as it recalls the enlightened qualities of this being and by remembering we gain merits and increase our faith. It creates the seeds to achieve these very qualities in our mind stream.

Conducive environment is helpful I agree. So you see how you like to do it. Anything towards Setrap has TREMENDOUS BENEFITS.

I wish you luck and very happy to hear you have devoted yourself to this supreme Dharmaphala.

Question asked by Winnie Wang

Rinpoche, you seem unhappy lately. Would it help if we wrote your gurus, and asked them to give you some time off to meditate? Or maybe we should ask them to send people to help you, so you wouldn’t have to do everything yourself. I could start a petition on the internet.

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Winnie,

I have never wanted to teach. When I was sent from 1992 till now, I have not been happy at teaching at all. So this ‘unhappiness’ is not recent. It’s just I have been more open and vocal about it as I have places to write about it. I would like people to know how much pressures, scrutiny, expectations, projections, prejudices people have about a dharma teacher. How much disappointments dharma teachers receive and have to swallow. Asians or Tibetans are not in the habit of talking about personal issues. It doesn’t seem ‘proper’ that a dharma teacher would express this.

Raising funds is another aspect of my work I dread. If I don’t do it, very little will be done about it most of the time. People like to get benefits from your fundraising but do very little to support or give most of the time… There are a few exceptions in the past and present, but the majority makes me not like to fundraise. The criticisms involved when you raise funds is incredible. Everyone knows that all religious institutions rely on donations and it is necessary. So I am not doing something that has not been done before. Then some people will donate, become unhappy and want their items back later or accuse you of taking their items under duress…like what?? Huh? Shocking. I would never do that..NEVER..even scary to think about..but the delusions/fantasies/anger/stories ppl have can be beyond imagination sometimes… I have offered so much to my gurus, the sangha and monasteries in my life.. I have asked for nothing back…I would never ask for anything back. Imagine if all the people who donated to any religious institution wanted everything back. What havoc. What a negative trend. How can someone give and then say they want it back??? It really blows my mind the fantasies/anger people create and wish to take it out on others to the detriment of themselves/others short and long term. Karma exists. Money is always very sensitive, but how to build and grow without donations or viable financial help? So raising funds is very tedious and I truly dread this part of my work.

I have seen my teachers sometimes deeply disappointed or sad, it’s just they don’t talk about it or very little. It is not in Tibetan culture to talk openly…well I am Tibetan and decided why not express the truth and what I feel. Their sadness does not affect their kindness, wisdom, knowledge and their continuous hardwork toward others I have seen with my own eyes many times over. For this I fold my hands to them and bow my head to their feets. May I be like them. Bodhisattvas do feel pain, they just don’t act out of it…they don’t increase it, although they feel pain, they still find ways to help….

I will not stop teaching, and I am not happy about it. It is not easy to always tell people what they need to change or know what is going to happen to them or the effects of their karma…it is very easy to create ‘enemies’ when you don’t tell them what they like to hear. The main issue I don’t like about teaching is people produce very tiny results even if you put 100% into them, explain, help or talk…so I prefer action dharma or quiet dharma. Their habitual comfort zones blind them to the impending results..very sad to see. Teaching many of them makes very little dents in this zone… It is very disappointing to see ppl around me who have been around for 5-10 years or more and they change very little if any change at all. That is the biggest disappointment for any teacher even an unqualified one like silly me.. It must be largely my fault and as I am unqualified to teach and have very little impact on these ppl so they don’t change…. Whatever it is, it is very disappointing to see. I am never out to get students. Look for students or want students to leave their teacher to join me. I always discourage ppl to come to me….

As one of my teachers said, in this day in age, to do dharma is like being a white crow among the black. I don’t do great dharma, but I have given thirty years of my life and youth to it so far completely.

As long as I have to teach, I will never be at peace or be happy. But if it is the order of my guru, then I will do it and do it till the end. I have more faith in my teachers than in my unhappiness to teach. I trust them more than my reluctance to teach. So I just do it and do it the best I can and continue. I will do the best I can in teaching although I abhor it.

I thank you for your concern and your active wish to help by petition, but it will not be necessary..it is deeply appreciated. You didn’t just write empty words, but wish to help by action. That is very special…very appreciated…. I have requested to retire earlier this year and it was not accepted. So I will continue and will write about my dissatisfaction in teaching sometimes as it is how I feel, but it will not affect my energy and motivation when I teach. I can seperate the two. When I teach, I mean every word, because I TRULY BELIEVE IN THE DHARMA AND SEEN IT’S EFFECTS.

In life we have to do things we don’t like, but we still have to do our best as it will somehow benefit people eventually. What keeps me going is that it MIGHT EVENTUALLY BENEFIT OTHERS….

Question asked by (Anon.)

Dear Rinpoche, while making love to my wife I accidentally visualized her as Vajrayogini. Is this wrong? Should I repent and do purification practices? (I have not received permission to do this practice.) Thank you.

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Anon,

Our desire and attachments manifest in hundreds of ways mostly uncontrolled. Do not fret or worry too much about your accidental visualization.

There are worse karmas we should purify. Focussing on ourselves and not helping others, eating animal flesh, working in life just for ourselves and not caring to do much work for others, not spending more time to gain realization and focussed on the trivials of this life, basically wasting our time in greed, food, fun, experiences to soothe and ‘satisfy’ our attachments which further feed the self grasping mind are much more serious.

    I wish you well.

Question asked by DIYBoodeez

dear rinpoche are you upset about something? if i could i would hire a guru and buy all the enlightenment on sale.if one does not have a guru how does one practice guru devotion ? how to visualise the guru? who would he be ? when does the guru becomes one's guru ? as long as one does not have a guru how can one make progress in his practice ? who is to prescribe these practices to begin with ? how to purify the still-no-guru negative karma ? how to check out a guru's compassion ?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear friend,

Please read 50 Verses of Guru Devotion by Ashvagosha, Lam Rim by Pabongka Rinpoche, Fulfillment of All Hopes (in English) by Tsongkapa published by Wisdom Publications and it will answer all your questions thoroughly. After reading, if you have questions, I will try to help you.

Your questions are very important and excellent.

Question asked by Doreen Teoh

Dear Rinpoche, How do you focus the change on yrself and improve and yet not get yrself put down?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

    Dear Doreen,

In the beginning it is inevitable. While you are working on yourself, you will have ups and downs and sometimes be put down by others. Or even you put yourself down. But as time goes on, you will GAIN MOMENTUM AND STRENGTH and become better. That is a promise.

Please go the Youtube and see my video called: Don’t Embarrass the Buddhas.

I offer you my sincerest prayers and while on this journey, solicit Lama Tsongkapa. I have a book ( Life and Teachings of Tsong Khapa -Edited by Prof. R. Thurman)
with many praises to Lama Tsongkapa written by great masters. There is one prayer called the Tricosmic Master by Kedrub Rinpoche..you should recite this daily and recite migtzeyma afterwords. Contact Shin of E division to help you get that prayer or book.It is in my library and private collection.

Also contact Ethan of Kechara Care, I would like you to get a consecrated pendant of Lord Tsongkapa to bless you. It will be a gift from me. Wear it daily. And next year try to gift three others with Tsongkapa pendants as a gift from you to do your good deed.

Happy new year with filled spiritual goals fulfilled.

Question asked by piggy

dear rinpoche in the name of medical science millions of lab animals are genetically bred to suffer horrible diseases and cruel experiments.for every medical/surgical treatment available millions of rats, rabbits, pigs, dogs have been sacrificed.this is a terrible karma we are all a part of and yet unless we can say no to all medical intervention when we are sick it would seeem so hypocritical to be anti vivisection . what is your advice on this ? thank you.

  1. Response by tsemtulku

Do your best to counter all this karma by going Vegetarian if you are not. Promote animal welfare. Start a animal sanctuary. Start a powerful blog site on this issue. Use social media to bring awareness. Educate others by various means to save and be kind to animals. Live your life for saving these poor beings from being harmed.

Use Medicine Buddha as your main Yidam to achieve this.

These would be good action dharma to counter some karma and create new karma.

Talk is good when action follows…is how I feel.

I thank you for wanting to do something for animals.

Question asked by Martin B.

Dear Rinpoche, what happens to a possessed person in the afterlife if he/she is not cured by a lama before the death ? How exactly he/she will suffer than? With pain? With delusions? For how long? There are many people who don’t believe that possession exist and they can die without being exorcised at all so I want to know can we help them with prayers ? If somebody wants to exterminate the Buddhism because he/she is ignorant and evil and then he becomes possessed should we pray for him/her ?

  1. Response by tsemtulku

Dear Martin,I’ll answer in between your quesions broken down below. Take a look please.

    *******************************************************************

Dear Rinpoche, what happens to a possessed person in the afterlife if he/she is not cured by a lama before the death ?

A person in the afterlife may not be directly affected by their immediate current life. For example, he may be possessed, but at the time of death, another karma may open and they take a good rebirth. Or they can take a bad rebirth. Nothing is fixed because we have collected karma that is very strong stored, dormant and ready to open from many other lifetimes also beckoning to manifest. I wrote a small book on magic and the like. You can obtain it online or kechara paradise outlets. It will help you.

How exactly he/she will suffer than? With pain? With delusions?

Any negative karma will lead to sufferings. That is a given for everyone possessed or not. Whether a person is possessed or not at the time of death makes a difference but not the only difference and certainly not the only criteria. Karma makes no exceptions for anyone. So we have to see their thoughts, actions and thinking at death to get a clue where they are going next….Also how they lived this life in general.

    For how long?

No determined time. For the length of next rebirths, it will be different for everyone in every life.

There are many people who don’t believe that possession exist and they can die without being exorcised at all so I want to know can we help them with prayers ?

You can get the book I wrote in which I talk clearly what one can do..it will be very helpful to you. For now Singdongma, Black Manjushri or Setrap practices continuously will BE VERY HELPFUL FOR EVERYONE CONCERNED. Any of these three are very efficacious for the afflictions of this nature.

If somebody wants to exterminate the Buddhism because he/she is ignorant and evil and then he becomes possessed should we pray for him/her ?

We forgive them and be further inspired to practice more to liberate and help many like them. Pray to Tsongkapa or Setrap would be excellent.

I wish you luck and great blessings.

Every time, every day, one advice get’s done, you become closer to enlightenment and it becomes great purification for many lifetimes, those heavy negative karma get purified. Being one of the closer student around Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, i do experience a lot of miracles, from someone who are very sick got heal or rain stop at certain moment that is urgent, some may think it’s all coincidence, let me tell you a real truth story that happened an hour ago. H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, like to rescue animals such as fishes, dogs, birds and etc. In our new Kechara Forest Retreat land, Rinpoche have kindly requested one of the liaison Beng Kooi to build a fish pond for all the fishes that Rinpoche rescued. The contractors that we got in to build the fish pond was slow and delay a few deadline that they gave. Just 2 days ago, Rinpoche instructed the fish pond project to be call off and all workers should leave the fish pond site as soon as possible. While we still thinking why Rinpoche cancel this project as it’s one of Rinpoche wishes to build a very comfortable place for fishes. Something happened an hour ago, there was a big bang came from the fish pond site, the whole artificial waterfall wall collapse without people go near it. This artificial waterfall wall was made out of cement, wire mesh, metal bar and etc, it weigh easily 200-300 Kgs. Luckily Rinpoche have giving us warming do not go near this waterfall 2 days ago, and should stop all construction wall, just imagine the workers are still working when the waterfall fall, some people might died or serious injury now. Due to humility Rinpoche will not say a word or show his premonitions power, this happened many many times. Rinpoche just save a few life without them knowing it. A lot of people will think why such horrible thing can happened in a holy land like Kechara Forest Retreat, a Buddhist site should always safe from all accident, but we believe if a place that will be use to benefiting thousands, a lot of obstacles will appear, I will take this artificial waterfall accident as part of clearing our negative karma, may all the negative karma from all of us be cleared. It’s glad that this happened before we move any fishes into this pond. In Tibetan culture, it’s an auspicious omen which represent bad obstacles have been cleared, and all our project will grow very smoothly later. It’s very important we follow our lama’s instruction/advice, even though sometime we might not understand it truly, because a real lama will never do anything which is not beneficial.

For tsemtulku – My dear Rinpoche,Alex & I met you 10 years ago. Because of your precious Dharma teachings & guidance, we are able to transform ourselves. Because of your Dharma vision, we now have 14 Departments for people with different skills & interest to be involve and for us to create merits in virtuous activities. I have been a part time vegetarian for sometime. Somehow i just wasn’t able to be a full vegetarian. After watching your teaching on “Integrity, Keeping promises & Vows”, it finally hit me. It is so true that having vows are not meant to “Imprison” us but really to help us transform positively to kick away our negative habits. I realize that from young, we have been condition to think that we have to eat meat and meat is delicious and it is part of life to consume meat in our daily diet. Hence we ignore the sufferings of others in order to indulge in our own taste buds. Lately, i have develop myself into feeding strays nearby my neighbourhood and I’m compelled to help strays via Kechara Animal Sanctuary. After deep contemplation, i realize that i cannot be wanting to help KAS and yet still eating meat. The equation is just so wrong. Now i can see clearly, it makes it so much easier to be a full vegetarian. Taking the vegetarian vow is not an imprisonment but it is another level of commitment to not be the source of pain to other sentient beings. It is a choice that we make to kick away our preconception of consuming meat for a balance diet.If one is against animal cruelty, then one should practice vegetarianism. Can’t be pitching for animal rights when you are still eating them. My daughter once said to me, “Mommy, animals are our friends so we shouldn’t be eating them”. I find that so profound coming from a kid. I’m very sure my family members will not be supportive of me going vegetarian but I pray that one day they will also come to the same realization as i have.
I humbly offer to Rinpoche my vegetarian vow and may it be dedicated to Rinpoche’s long life. May it also be dedicated to my family, loved ones and friends.
I will continue to get involve in KAS activities to assist Pastor Susan.
    Thank you my dear Lama.

Most amusing is this unparalleled ingenuity of the highly inspired dramatic slogan (self-explanatory) in the cover picture of http://www.facebook.com/MBFSG?fref=ts which HHDL and all Buddhas of the past, Buddhas of the present and Buddhas yet tocome, correspondingly are bowing their heads in deferential obeisance. Are we now transported to the Age of Somnambulism??? To earthlings, the most crucial life sustaining factor is NO AIR, NO LIFE, in so far as planet Earth and basic common sense are concerned.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Kyabje Chatral Rinpoche: "I am just an ordinary sentient being and there is nothing special about me. I just follow the teachings of Lord Buddha. Without any cheating on my part, I stand firmly on the ground in practicing the Dharma and in helping all sentient beings. I wish that all sentient beings could let go of the acts of self-deception and self-aggrandizement, so that they can really practice the Dharma in order to liberate themselves from cyclic existence and to help other sentient beings. Otherwise, it will be too late when they are feeling remorseful!"

We should have compassion for butchers. When we stop eating meat, we don’t make create the causes for them to slaughter animals contributing to their killing karma. We may say it’s ok to eat meat, but someone has to do the killing and collect the negative karma. Go vegetarian. It’s good for the butchers, the animals and ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

Kechara Liaisons are leaders who head and run our 13 depts within Kechara. Liaison Paul heads the arts, statue making, florist and Gompa depts. Yes he has huge portfolios. And he does a good job! Paul took a group of people to Kechara Forest Retreat today with Pastor Yek Yee to introduce to them about our projects. Paul tirelessly/kindly talks to many people this way. It's people like Paul who contributes to Kechara reaching out to many and benefitting them. When we do dharma and not see it as work, it's never a burden. We should see it as a way for ourselves to grow and creating the space for others to grow also. Kind people like Paul inspire me. Thank you Paul. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear all, This is Paris interviewing my sister Lidshma. She mentions when I was very young the monks would have me sit with them to do the Buddhist services which was highly irregular in New Jersey. They didn't have lay people even children sit with them to do the services. So she mentions this was very unusual in a good way. My sister Lidshma here mentions my mother (Dana) would always catch me in the night in my room in the dark sitting on my bed meditating and doing mantras. I did that always and had to avoid being caught by my mother. I did it nightly. So I did it secretly and without her catching me. If she did catch me, then there would be big drama and problems depending on the mood my mom was in. My practicing dharma/meditating/praying/mantras was not allowed at all by my parents. They were fiercely against it always. My sister remembers this here. My sister lives in Texas, USA. And our bio group had gone to USA to interview my family for my bio book. This is a snippet.
