CEO of Facebook says, “I Only Eat What I Kill”

Marc1According to Forbes, Mark Zuckerberg is the #40 most powerful person on Earth today. With a net worth of US$13.5 billion, he’s the 19th richest person in America and the 52nd richest person in the world.

At only 27 years old, he has created the largest and most influential social networking site of the century: Facebook.

In a world with approximately 6 billion people living in it… there are more than 500 million active Facebook users. 50% of them log on to Facebook in any given day and all of them spend about 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook.

Together with three of his classmates at Harvard University, Mark Zuckerberg has created something that revolutionized the online social platform. EVERYONE knows about Facebook. And there aren’t that many other things you can say that about.

Marc4In 2010, Mark Zuckerberg was Time Magazine’s Person of the Year and at the end of the year, both he and Warren Buffet (the 3rd richest man in the world) signed a promise called ā€œGiving Pledgeā€. They promised to give away at least 50% of their personal wealth over a certain period of time! Incredible… and good for them…

Mark Zuckerberg has been known to take on different personal challenges in his life. In the past he took up learning Chinese, and his current personal challenge is to eat only what he has personally killed!

It was on Twitter that his followers found out that he had just killed a pig and a goat. Besides that, he has boiled live lobsters and killed chickens.

Although some people might be quite upset with his new challenge… maybe this intelligent man has a good motive for it? I really sure hope so…because with me it’s just don’t kill and eat vegetarian…..

In a letter sent to CNN, Mark Zuckerberg explains: “I think many people forget that a living being has to die for you to eat meat, so my goal revolves around not letting myself forget that and being thankful for what I have. This year I’ve basically become a vegetarian since Marc2the only meat I’m eating is from animals I’ve killed myself. So far, this has been a good experience. I’m eating much more healthier foods and I’ve learned a lot about sustainable farming and raising animals.”

I have added the article below for everyone to read, as well as 2 videos. Please have a look and tell me, do you think that Mark Zuckerberg’s reason to kill his own meat is… good or bad? You decide and you think it through.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg: I Only Eat What I Kill

Constantly seeking a new challenge, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is making waves with his latest vow—to only eat the meat of animals he kills himself.

He’s not wasting any time either.

“I just killed a pig and a goat,” Zuckerberg posted to his private Facebook page on May 4.

Every year the 27-year-old mogul embarks on a personal challenge. He explained it to Fortune as “something to learn about the world, expand my interests and teach myself greater discipline.”

When compared to prior “personal challenges” (learning Chinese and wearing a tie every day) it may seem a little odd for a billionaire from Palo Alto, Ca. to be hunting and killing his dinner, but he’s had expert guidance from neighbor and chef Jesse Cool and hey, most people don’t become rich, famous and successful without following the path less traveled. This path just happens to be lined with trees instead of HTML code.

He sent an email to Fortune, further explaining himself. Below is a rare glimpse into the mind of Mark Zuckerberg:

This year, my personal challenge is around being thankful for the food I have to eat. I think many people forget that a living being has to die for you to eat meat, so my goal revolves around not letting myself forget that and being thankful for what I have. This year I’ve basically become a vegetarian since the only meat I’m eating is from animals I’ve killed myself. So far, this has been a good experience. I’m eating a lot healthier foods and I’ve learned a lot about sustainable farming and raising of animals.

Mark and his girlfriend Priscilla prepare the meal after a butcher in Santa Cruz readies the kill. They recently ate a chicken, including the heart and liver, and in the spirit of being thankful for EVERYTHING, used the feet to make stock.

But like Mark said in his email to Fortune, this new “diet” doesn’t solely consist of Mark-killed animals. He’s also been traveling down the vegetarian road, admitting to eating much healthier foods these days.

Zuckerberg is in good company. Fellow famous vegetarians include Oscar-winner Natalie Portman, talk show shot Ellen DeGeneres, actor Christian Bale, new mom and author of “The Kind Diet” Alicia Silverstone and country music superstar Carrie Underwood.

After watching Zuckerberg’s interview, I feel that he is a big kid at heart and probably “not yet skilled” in covering his real feelings, which is great, because this seems to me is honesty. I am very impressed with what he has achieved at his age, and is please to know about his practice of thankfulness.

Having said that, I do not, however, agree with his idea of “vegetarianism”. I define “vegetarianism” as a practice of following plant-based diets without meat (red, white, seafood etc.). The purpose of this practice is to know that animals have to be killed for one’s enjoyment and that one’s true nature (loving-kindness, empathy, compassion etc) will be kept away as long as they enjoy meat. This will in return separate one from true happiness that one deserves. So, being a vegetarian means not only to refrain from eating meat, but also from killing.

To me, Zuckerberg is far from being a vegetarian. Worst still, he is encouraging people to kill for themselves. I agree that eating healthier food will make people feel good, but I believe healthier food do not consist of meat. If being vegetarian, according to Zuckerberg, means eating veges plus meat killed by oneself equals to good experience, then, his version of vegetarianism is simply a good experience, not mere practice of vegetarianism. He has still a lot of work to do on what vegetarianism is all about and should not claim to be vegetarian until he fully grasp the meaning of being a vegetarian.

This is very important because of his influence due to his fame. He would have many fans looking up to him and imitate his actions. The result might lead to many start killing and rejoice in it. I sincerely hope that Zuckerberg will be a “real” vegetarian and do not continue killing animals regardless of whatever good intentions he has behind it. At the moment, his whole bizzare idea of vegetarianism just doesn’t seems right to me.

I once saw a show of Jamie Oliver travelling in Italy where he had to kill a goat himself. He did not expect that he had to do this, there were cameras and he was off-guards and unprepared. The camera was on his face as he prepared to plunge the knife into the live animal and you could see the world going through his mind. He was clearly not sure that this was the right thing to do… Until he managed to silence his mind and killed the animal with an obvious effort to put his mind elsewhere.

There were times when our ancestors, in temperate climate countries, were in the middle of winter, with no vegetable growing for months and had to rely on meat for survival, they did not know any better and questioning this way of surviving was just unthinkable, for it clearly was a survival matter.

But those times are gone for many of us and we now have the choice, a choice nobody ever had before us, we could eat most anything, for most anything is made available to us, winter or not, and the food we choose is no longer a case of “there is no other option”.

I would not be surprised if some children nowadays wouldn’t even know that meat comes from an animal that was killed, and not just from a super-market shelf with music, nice light and air-conditioning.

This is entry level of delusion, we know that killing and abuse were necessary for the meat to be on the display shelf but we give in to the appearances that every thing is fine.

I can name a few friends, non-vegetarian friends, who would think that Mark Zuckerberg must be a cruel person to kill animals himself. To think that is delusional and paradoxical.
Why is it cruel for Mark Zuckerberg to kill the animal that he will eat, but not when we buy the meat and rely on someone else to kill? I would like to know…
What is the difference, does the animal not get killed? Does the animal not suffer?

Maybe they think Mark Zuckerberg is cruel because he is taking joy in the killing? I am not him, but I suspect he does not take pleasure in that.
But then, if we take joy in eating a rack of lamb or a fried chicken, could it be somehow linked to the killing also?
    Is it linked or not?
Is there no direct relation between the killing and my meat dish?
If I rejoice at my meat dish, don’t I rejoice also at the killing itself?

In fact when Mark Zuckerberg only eats what he has killed, instead of many people being involved in the killing (the killer, the transporter, the sales person, etc… and the consumer), there is only one “killer-consumer short-cut”.
So we could even argue that it is less cruel.

Mark Zuckerberg is taking us out of a mirage, he is reminding us that meat is a corpse’s flesh and that killing was necessary for it, whether we want to be deluded about it or not.
He is putting the facts straight for us to see.

Then I notice that he tends to become vegetarian…
    How interesting…

So it may be that, for most of us, if we had to kill the animal ourselves we would rather be vegetarian = proof we are deluded when we buy our meat in the super-market.
We think we have nothing to do with the fact that the animal, a sentient being, was killed. We think us buying the meat and eating it is unrelated to the killing, because “some else” killed for us.

Try explain that to the animal…

I say thanks to Mark Zuckerberg, because he is reminding us about the reality. And I hope he becomes 100% vegetarian soon and stop the killing all together.

A classic example of the difference between good fortune borne from good deeds performed in tandem with refuge in the Triple Gems and those borne from charitable deeds without Dharma motivations. The former are stable and will not degenerate; the latter is temporal and will most likely open the path to the lower realms. Mark Zuckerberg clearly belonged to the latter.

From Buddhist point of view a killing is 100% negative action. Of course this is irrelevant if you don’t believe in karma or in Buddhism. When you kill in order to teach somebody a lesson it becomes a murder – not a simple killing in my point of view. But that is still irrelevant if you don’t believe in karma.
An interesting story: I have a friend who had entered a kung fu organization called YMAA. As far as I know this organization among other rules has one important rule which states ā€œThe student promises that he or she will respect all life.ā€. Some time after the entering in the organization the person took the vow that he will study 10 years under the Great world renown Master Yang Jwing-Ming in order to preserve the ancient martial arts of China. In other words the person stated that he wants to become a kung fu master one day. Ok… He(his name is Zach) stated to his frends (all of whom were non vegetarians) that he is a vegan. Than some months after that he took some tool(I don’t know a gun or something else) and killed 2 robins in the forest were the Retreat center of the YMAA is situated. The old master looked at him and listened to a long explanation and justification why he did that which basically is the same what Zucenberg sais here. The old master said nothing about that. The student said that he wants to eat them to see what is it. The master said ok and helped him to cook the dead robins.
I reacted to the event with a blast saying that the person has no place in the organization not knowing that the old moral code of the organization is not included as a vow system before beginning the 10 year program. When I entered this organization I took this rule in my heart and did my best to not kill (In order to respect life) I took something like a vow in front of myself to not kill deliberately even insects but only in case of defense when I myself could be killed by the sentient being or hunger. I knew that the old Master Yang is not a vegetarian but I thought that he is not killing his food in order to eat it by himself which is the same case as in the ancient Buddhist temples where they ate meat because they had nothing else to eat(in other words you kill or you die from hunger and the Tibetan tradition is that you eat already killed meat and you don’t order a killing in order to eat meat). Even if Master Yang makes fishing it is forgiven for me because he is a Master and he has the ability to do things without mistakes(I think he is at the level where he can see the karma of the animal and help it with its rebirth – but these are my conclusions). Many members of the organization and even some instructors don’t know or don’t remember about the rule about respecting life which I think has a Buddhist background since the YMAA is related in some way with the legendary monastery of Shaolin. This resulted in a split between me and them. I was devastated and even made a group in FB which states that the organization is a fraud since the student was not excommunicated. I realize now that the reason was that Master Yang wants to preserve the ancient Arts and that this is more important than few errors made by stupid students which would be resolved by themselves. After that I realized my huge error – that I shouldn’t judge my fellows from the YMAA if they don’t know something or don’t understand something and that sometimes a human being is more important than rules. So I apologized to my friends from the organization and some of them accepted while other still can’t understand me saying that I should be ashamed because I myself was eating meat at the time of the scandal. They said that I’m immoral and that what I did is like a stabbing in the back. Anyway I respect and feel a brotherly love to those dedicated students… Some time latter Zach decided that during the trainings he hurt his body too much and that wants to give up so finally he gave up his vow in front of Master Yang. And I’m a vegetarian since January this year.
Some people of the organization think that the murder of the robins was something very manly and brave but how can I judge them when they don’t know what I know about these rules or about Buddhism?
So I think that what Zuckerberg does is his problem not mine. I thinks he is ā€œtrying to be a better catholic than the popeā€ – lol : ))) Because many people in many countries don’t have other choice but to eat meat bought from the market and on top of that they are not Buddhists. I wouldn’t judge those people because they should decide for themselves. If you call every person who eats meat a sinner – I think you are wrong. It is bad to eat meat in many points of view but in the society it is a personal choice and not an obligation given from some authority. But if you have a Guru – it is all another story!
    Best regards,
    P.D.

I basically agree with the above opinions. He is putting real thought in the food he is eating, which is a good thing. But killing remains killing and in our society where a vegetarian diet is possible without problems it is an unnecessary taking of lives in my opinion. I started being vegetarians 8 months ago and only now i can start to look in the eyes of our wonderful friends which are the animals without feeling guilty. I hope that more and more people can start sharing this lifestyle. It would solve so many problems.
Hopefully Mr. Zuckerberf will follow this path too and be a great example for many people.

  6. koh hee peng on Jul 5, 2011 at 12:27 am

Zuckerberg only eats what he kills, which to me is much better than others who eat meat but not wanting to know where the meat comes from. At least he holds himself responsible for the sufferings of the animals he slaughters. Others choose to be ignorant of the sufferings thinking that the animals deserve to die to serve humans as humans are superior to animals. If only they can see for themselves the pain and agony the animals have to endure, and experience for themselves the process of taking away one’s life, before consuming the plate of meat served at the table. Not all of us are born with killer instict nor sadistic that we take pleasure upon the sufferings of others. I believe many would change their diet should they confront themselves the whole process of the animals being slaughtered. I ate meat for 29 years, and I stop eating them cause i can’t bear to see the pain, the fear, the despair, the frustration, the sorrow that the animals have to go through before, upon and after being slaughtered.

  7. Mercedes on Jul 5, 2011 at 1:41 am

I totally don’t agree on what he’s doing. It is wrong, and this is not being a vegetarian. Any kind of animal sacrifice or death will inflict pain, stress, and suffering. He’s sending a confusing message which I’m afraid some people will follow due to his success. I don’t know where this world is heading toward, but I feel so fustrated every time I hear about animal abuse, animal cruelty, and plain ignorance around the world, even coming from rich, successful, and the so called elite and educated people.

  8. Steve Tobias on Jul 5, 2011 at 3:44 am

I could understand where he was coming from when I first read the article but of course it’s not “right”, not to criticize Mark Zuckerberg.

You know, depending on how he thinks about it or what his motivation is, maybe it will lead him towards becoming vegetarian a few years down the road? I know before I studied dharma I didn’t have much of a problem killing insects, and didn’t understand, but was able to reflect on that later and have it add to my practice in some way.

The fact is killing your “own” animals just means the same amount of animals die. It’s like switching from a job as a banker to a big real estate agent, the same possibility for attachment to money, reputation, image is still there.

If his message brings awareness to the slaughter house processes then that is good. But I am worried about his karma from doing this. If his motivation was actually good and sincere then he quietly stop eating meat. I suspect that the whole animal killing thing is more of a “clever display” or performance of some philosophy he holds at the moment. Killing an animal yourself would be a terrible experience, and the only way to “get used to it” would be to increase wrong view of the animal, to numb out the animal’s feelings and pain, and that imprint would stick.

When I eat vegetarian the two most difficult things are money and convenience. For someone with Mark Zuckerberg’s wealth it should be very easy. You could have your own personal chef. I wasn’t able to watch the interview or how he felt during these questions, but I hope his mind changes in the matter.

  9. Lim Han Nee on Jul 5, 2011 at 6:33 pm

Thinking through this post carefully, I am inclined to believe that in the end Mark Zuckerbug will turn fully vegetarian.

His resolution to only eat the meat of animals that he himself kills and his saying that this resolution stems from his view that ‘many people forget that a living being has to die for you to eat the meat’ appear to me to be coming from someone who is finding a path of compassion towards becoming a total vegetarian.

Wouldn’t it be great that the Facebook founder and CEO becomes 100 percent vegetarian? How tremendously positive an impact it would be on all who are on Facebook.

  10. me on Jul 5, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Haven’t read all the posts but I think he’s on the right track … I’m quasi-vegetarian myself and have often thought that none of us should eat animals when we haven’t bothered to really look at what’s happening with the whole livestock / farming industry, abattoirs, etc. It’s a valid choice to eat an animal but at least let’s be aware of what we’re doing.

  11. KH Ng on Jul 6, 2011 at 1:18 pm

I feel that since Mark Zuckerberg has clearly stated that he is basically a vegetarian and he only eat the meat of animal he kills himself; he trying to say to non-vegetarian, “if you want to eat meat, kill the animal yourself”. This is a very powerful statement as an overwhelming majority of people would not and have not killed an animal for their meat. Faced with the choice of killing the animal for its meat, I am sure many would not chose to eat the meat. Hence, he is promoting vegetarianism.
I feel even if one were to buy meat from the markets or restaurants, one is hurting another. Ultimately, the person who did the killing is hurt most. And we are supporting the cause for him to kill more.
In contrast, it is better for us to kill than having others kill for us.

  12. Sean Wang on Jul 6, 2011 at 4:26 pm

I find this very disturbing. I do not think he is on the right path. I believe that this way, he will be collecting more negative karma as he is causing the pain by his own methods. It is basically saying that he is a “vegetarian” that kills to eat. I do not think that is a vegetarian.

  13. Joshua Akers on Jul 7, 2011 at 4:28 am

Thierry summed up what I was thinking precisely.

  14. Li Kheng on Jul 8, 2011 at 12:27 am

I see this as a good first step towards being aware and respectful of what we choose to eat as food.

Many people find it very difficult to give up or reduce meat consumption…even though many of them believe that eating meat is not good for the health and create disgusting suffering for the animals and environment.

This inability to let go could be a form of attachment to meat and what we think meat means to us: a form of self-indulgence (giving yourself a treat of a juicy steak), wealth (in many societies, only the wealthy can afford meat) etc.

As letting go of meat completely is not an easy step for many people, making the effort towards consuming less meat by confronting and realizing the suffering “behind the scenes” is a strategic method. I applaud Mark Zuckerberg for being brave enough to be responsible for each time he chooses to eat meat. It is certainly being more accountable than others who avoid the truth about the pains our fellow earthlings have to endure in order for them to enjoy a meal.

In relation to creating negative karma each time he kills…I believe he is already collecting such karma each time he ignorantly eat meat in the past. Perhaps, by creating this negative karma WITH AWARENESS, he will eventually develop a basic form of compassion and choose to stop eating meat. This may not only stop his accumulation of negative karma from eating meat in the future but also begin creating positive karma from being a vegetarian who may influence and inspire other people towards eating less meat or become a vegetarian.

Therefore, I pray that Mark Zuckerberg will eventually make the choice to commit to a kind diet and bring great benefit with the influence he possesses.

  15. Alvin on Jul 17, 2011 at 3:17 am

I think he wants to be responsible for his own actions.that means if you wants to eat meat then you do your own killings so if you cants kills then dont eat meats well i could be wrong

  16. Uncle Eddie on Jul 20, 2011 at 2:33 pm

Whether Mark Zuckerberg’s reason to kill his own meat, or to have someone to do it for him, still remain as killing, which in our Buddhist practice is “SINFUL”. Everyday all around the World, animals are brutally abused, murdered and slaughtered for the pleasure of humans – except in the case of Zuckerberg’s killing of his own meat for his food, which may have the abuses, torturings and sufferings that may have been left out by uncaring butchers. But the fact remains that a living being has still to die for his food, which is heavy “Karma” causing. As Zuckerberg is travelling down the Vegeterian road, which obviously is much healthier and “Sin-less” food these days, a man can still live and be healthy without killing for food (meat i.e). As in the golden words of Thomas Edison when he said, “Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other beings, we are still savages.”

  17. Pete on Oct 1, 2011 at 8:57 am

You don’t have to kill to eat food.. That is called Vegetarian..! He has the luxury to be this kind Vegetarian, which would be impossible for millions of other people..! Basically this is arm, leg twisting for your purpose..!! Yes, you could kill, and eat too, first learn to give, create life.. Then, you might deserve it..!!

  18. Ashlee on May 6, 2012 at 11:39 am

It is very convenient for people to buy meat almost anywhere…and the society has projected that meat dishes are a necessity to our diet. Hence with the ease of obtaining it, people are very unlikely to consider becoming vegetarian because they do not have to kill with their own hands to obtain the meat. Perhaps they would consider vegetarianism if they would have to kill to be able to eat the meat?? Perhaps Mark Zuckerberg is trying to be aware how his food gets on his plate?? and try to make a statement to the rest of the world. Most modern folks & kids do not know the process of how the meat got on their plate.

Today’s advice is meant to help you and arm you against negative energies. I have come across many types of spirit or black magic afflictions. Some were genuine, some were paranoia or people wanting to blame their failures on something else. If powerful positive beings exist, then why not negative. If good beings help you then negative would harm. The world is filled with both types in humans and non-humans. Depending on our karma we can attract both. Better to be safe. Do our prayers to Tsongkapa/Setrap daily. It can only help never harm. It can prevent in some cases. I wish everyone safety, luck, merits and spiritual growth. TR

Negative energies or beings that follow you back from ‘dirty’ places or places of vice where the owners may keep spirits for success can be attracted to you and follow you home. It may not affect you as your merits are ok..but it can affect a family member or friend. They could create disharmony, fighting for no reasons. accidents, fear, lack of sleep, loss of appetite, change in moods, mood swings, anger, electrical problems, loss of memory (severe cases). I have encountered many of these sorts in the last 20 years of meeting people. Some ppl had pots and pans banged at night in their homes, or when they are in bed, something is always touching them. Some of these cases solved when they followed suggestions to overcome. Some do not follow and the situations gets worse. So if should protect and bless ourselves with GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA/MIGTSEYMA/SETRAP PRACTICE DAILY. We have nothing to lose and it increases wisdom, patience and merits. TR
************ Even when you don’t need to go far, sometimes we go to certain hawker places, wet markets, places that slaughter alot of animals (very dirty and negative energy), places with gambling, or very down places like clubs (drinking/heartbreaks/sadness), or places that have alot of fighting or pain, death, hospitals, funerals,etc.. we should bless ourselves before going and after going…sometimes we are sensitive and when we go we can attract wrong energies or negative spirits. They can follow us and hide in our homes for years or months before they ‘appear’. It can affect our family too. So very good to do GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA DAILY, FOLLOWED BY MIGTSEYMA AND THEN CONCLUDE WITH SETRAP PRAYERS/MANTRA AND BLACK TEA. You shouldn’t think prayers of these sorts daily is a chore or lots of work…you should think it is protection. If you are affected it might take months or years to ‘clean’ you again..so it is worth it to do your protection daily and have your pendants to bless you. TR

When we travel alot, we pass through many places, many buildings, many vehicles, sit in many seats, stay at many places. Hundred or thousands of beings used these items and places.. All these may have negative energy or residual energy of the previous person that can affect you if you are sensitive. Sometimes if you are very sensitive, in some cases, these energies can make you blur in which case you are considered polluted. It is very important then to take holy water daily. Wash with holy water (can get from Pastors or Ladrang) and recite Manjushri’s praise daily 3x and mantra 5 or more rounds till you feel cleared. You may do wrathful black Manjushri or peaceful Manjushri. Up to you. Before you travel it is good to bless your clothes, bags, luggage and personal items with GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA/MIGTSEYMA/ SERKYM OF SETRAP. After reciting the migtseyma/setrap mantra, blow on your clothes and items and feel you are protected. This would safeguard you before you travel. TR
***************** Also excellent and modern are Buddha pendants. After you pick a Buddha pendant, have one of the Pastors of Kechara bless the pendant. Then keep the pendant well and wear is excellent. If you do not have access to a Pastor, then keep your pendant on your shrine and do GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA/MIGTSEYMA/SETRAP SERKYM to consecrate your pendants. After consecration one wears the pendant that looks like a beautiful piece of jewellery but actually they are powerful protection pendants because they contain the consecrated image of a powerful manifestation of enlightenment-a Buddha. One can have a few pendants is ok. But one should get the best pendant one can from made from the best material and think the good material is offered to Buddha. If the pendants get stained due to sweat, then very good to clean thinking you are purifying your karma. One should make sure all your loved ones wear a blessed pendant. If Buddhas are beneficial on your shrine, very good on your body also. TR
*********************** Chakras are good to keep. Chakras are special mantras, mandalas and prayers of a certain Buddha. Then it is folded then sealed with 5 colored strings during pujas. Puja and consecration of the chakras can take 1-3 days where the diety is invited and abide within each chakra. Chakras should not get wet, otherwise they can be kept anywhere or worn anywhere. Wearing chakras is very good, but to fully activate their energy, one should recite the mantra, prayer and liturgy of one’s diety. If you don’t have a specific deity, you do GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA/MIGTSEYMA/SETRAP and this will ‘activate’ the power of the chakra fully. It is also very good to do this. Chakras are wonderful gifts. They an be worn, kept in car, office, wallet or anyhwere..They are very holy and very effective. TR
    ************
Most important when you travel alot or stay in many hotels, keep a dukkar or hayagriva chakra with you. It is good to bless the room with recitation of GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA. Recite migtseyma 21x and do do black tea to your protector. Then go to sleep. It is a good way to purify the room with the above. If you do it wilth faith with tremendous confidence you will be protected from negative energies. This is a easy practice to protect yourself when you have to travel alot and stay in many different types of hotels. Many people stay in hotels with many types of energies. Sometimes the residual energy will stay and affect another person. Very good to do this. TR
************* When people sleep they should not have offering bowls, empty altar cups, empty plates, cups and bowls around one’s bed. Also when you sleep, try not to place your hands on your chest. These actions attract one type of spirit. Once they come, they hang around for quite a while. Make sure your altar does not have empty items on it. Make sure there are not empty items around you when going to sleep or around your bed. TR

I haven’t lived in Gaden since 1992 when I was sent to Malaysia. I love Gaden and loved so much living there. I like so many things about Gaden. Conversations would not be lonely and easy. Whatever I talk about the monks immediately understand. I do not have to face ‘opposition’ , doubts, hundreds of questions, and every detail simple about the dharma or dharma work has to be explained. I miss that so much. I am not lonely for company, but I am lonely for familiarity very much. I was very content, at peace and in my element in Gaden. I never knew or imagined I would have to go to Malaysia, stay and take on heavy responsibilities. I am not complaining but I love Gaden, the monks, my teachers, the great masters, the senior monks whom I have many friends. I miss them so much. So so much. I love and respect the great old monks, Rinpoches and spectacular Geshes. Gaden was a city of practitioners and I was home. Lord Tsongkapa’s presence pervades the whole Gaden. TR

Dear all, had a nice conversation with my friend the monk Ven. Losang Yeshe in Gaden a few days ago. I had asked him to learn up how to make a large outdoor stupa from senior monks a few months ago. He told me he is learning and it is not difficult for him at all. I am looking forward to building our Vajra Yogini stupa in the future and he will assist us. It will be my/our first outdoor stupa in this life. Very beneficial and purifying for us. TR

Dear all, I gave a talk on desire to a few inclusive of Paris and David. I asked David and Paris to write up the talk on their blogs. My plan was after they write it, I’ll link it to my blog. From my blog people will click to their blog to read the write up and benefit many who read the talk. Paris did a very good write up and did not miss the subtle points I was expressing that night. She really took the time and effort to write it…I was happy to see she wrote exaclty as I expressed. Effort pays off usually or eventually. Heruka! We say we want to improve yet we don't hold our vows. We promise to keep our samaya, yet our promise to our earlier promises laxed. We want to experience only good results yet we hold onto our face. We want wealth, yet we give nothing. We want success, yet we offer tiny offerings to the Three Jewels. We say we have great faith in our Guru, yet when his assignments are difficult we run. We say we want a good rebirth yet all our actions are motivated by self gain. Heruka, Heruka, Heruka, how are we to recieve your blessings when our three doors are closed tightly by selfishness, ignorance and anger?~Tsem Rinpoche

Bryan gave me an incredible MOTHER'S DAY GIFT. It is so auspicious. He had someone draw HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche's sacred face onto the body of Buddha Vajradharma. Buddha Vajradharma is the form Buddha takes to teach the immaculate and fautless tantra of Vajra Yogini. In Vajra Yogini's tantra and meditations, you must visualize your guru in the form of Vajradharma to make offerings both inner, outer & secret offerings daily to one's tantric guru & to meditate on Him in that form. It is very integral part of the practice. If you do the meditations well on your guru in this particular form during the practice of the sadhana..you can gain tremendous realizations and control over one's mind to leave the body when you want. So getting this picture today was an omen if Kecharians fulfill their responsibilities, then Vajra Yogini's practice will spread in this region. Very good omen. I feel this strongly. Bryan really planned out this gift & surprised me!! I will put in Chamang Ladrang in the future. THANK YOU BRYAN!!TR

Back in New Jersey over 30 years ago, there lived a lady down the street who was also a student of my teacher. Her name is Carmen (she is a nun now and her ordination name is: Ani Thupten). She had a nice size library of books and many dharma books. I loved the Dharma books!! I would spend so much time browsing and getting snippets of each book from Carmen. I use to ride by bike down to chat with her and borrow her books and it took me like 5 mins by bike..She lived on the same street. I would read dharma books voraciously and write down my questions. I would call Carmen almost daily for years to ask her to clarify the readings I had questions on. She would spend hours on a phone with me answering questions never once losing patience. I learned so much from her. She had vast dharma knowledge, very devoted to our teacher and would do her meditations and extensive sadhanas daily. She would join in all the dharma classes and pujas at our nearby Kalmuck Buddhist Temple. She was such a good dharma friend and I enjoyed her company very much. I wanted to be like her to have the freedom to study and practice dharma. When I recievd my first initiation by our teacher at the temple, Carmen sat right next to me on the front row. Thrilling!! After initiation we would have ten days of explanations (commentary) from our teacher His Eminence Kensur Losang Tharchin Rinpoche. I was so excited and deeply happy to get commentary from our great and knowledgable teacher. What I did not understand, I would of course consult Carmen who is much more advanced and taught me patiently after each day’s teachings. Around 15 years ago Carmen came to India and I travelled with her to holy Bodhgaya, Varanasi and Dharamsala. I escorted her to these places. Since then I have not met up with her. But I know she is fine. Around two years back I sent her a three foot Vajra Yogini statue as a gift from me. Carmen received the statue and was very happy. It was my offering to her for so much kindness shown me when I was a child. I wish so much she can visit Malaysia. She would be happy. We all want to be a part of something big and with good results. But the only way we can be a part of that is if we work hard together with the other members of our Kechara. The time will pass. It can pass with you taking on difficulties or it can pass with you doing nothing. I feel it's better to work hard now and enjoy later than to enjoy nothing now and then end up nowhere later. Prayers and dedications are ok, but hard work must be part of the prayer. Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness the Dalai Lama seated here with His sacred mother. A mother who gives birth to great beings like Shakyamuni, Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, Trijang Rinpoche, etc must be a Buddha Herself, a highly realized Dakini, a powerful practitioner, or a lady who made prayers in previous lives to provide others with great dharma in one way or another. A lady of great spiritual merit or virtue.. I wanted to share this photo with you because if I ever met His Holiness' mother, I would prostrate to Her immediately. Beautiful picture. His Holiness is not ordinary for sure and neither could a being who gave birth to Him. Tibetans always said she was very saintly, gentle, simple and deeply spiritual. During Her lifetime many went to recieve Her blessings..Tsem Rinpoche

It's very revealing how when you give, offer and have something for them, they crowd around smiling, happy and easy. The minute you ask them to give something, contribute or really help out, they totally disappear. Handphones shut. No replies. No sound. As if you they never knew you. People like that make themselves 2nd rate, find 1st rate people to work with and move on. Recently I encountered some students like that!~ Tsem Rinpoche

When I was in Thubten Dhargye Ling centre with the great Master Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen in Los Angeles, on the main altar was this poster size printed framed picture of His Holiness meditating. Last night between 300-400 persons congregated at Kechara while I gave a talk to them on 'making a choice' and 'the power and purpose of stupas'. The talk has been taped and will be blogged once tape is ready. The talk was two hours and it flowed well for me although I had very little sleep. Towards the end of the talk I gave refuge vows to 100 new persons from different countries for this. When everything was done, I met up with a group of 15 and 5 from Shanghai. Had a nice dharma talk with them on how to make a centre grow and harmony. Passed out nice dharma gifts to all the visitors so they don't go home empty handed. Also seperately met some directors and movie producers that attended the talk and sought private time with me..these producers and directors are very well known locally. One is from Hong Hong. Got home around 5Am and saw so many gifts from people. Did a Manjushri dedication for all the people who offered gifts to me on Wesak day in gratitude. Also some people from Europe called in to Kechara to arrange flowers to be given to me last night. That was very sweet. I have so many flowers now..over 70 bouquets I would...guess. They have all been offered up on the shrine. Thank you. TR (May 5, 2012)

Karma exists and created constantly by our actions. Karma created in the past is fertile and will open up when the situation arises. We should never relax and think everything will be alright when there is so much volatile latent karma like a huge volcano temporarily dormant. We can do something about it though. I was a fresh and new monk that time. Shortly after this picture was taken, I travelled to South India to join with Gaden Monastery. Tsem Rinpoche

May 1, 2012. I am sitting under the wonderful veranda just outside of my room here at Kechara Forest Retreat. The veranda area has a fan too!! See the beautiful prayer flags fluttering behind me blessing the environment...Our Datuk May, Martin, Joe and Jeffrey did such a good job. Thank you team. Your work here has just started. The four of you will create something powerful and blessed here for thousands of people to come and get blessed. I am so happy for you. It will be hard work, but very fulfilling...it will bring tears to your eyes when you see how much benefit it brings when complete. Tsem Rinpoche

If we always do not understand Dharma, then that is a sign of not studying. If we always blame Dharma, it is a sign we do not know what dharma really is. If we always expect of the Dharma, then we are using Dharma in ineffective methods. If we find Dharma difficult, then it is because we are unwilling to accept it. If we give up the Dharma, we are get deeper into our sufferings without respite. If we complain about Dharma it is a sign we are looking for blame in the wrong places and not within ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,
SO FANTASTIC! Me staring at rainbow. Love dm
****(April 22, 2012-Sunday-Kechara is very lucky. Many times when we are about to embark on something really beneficial or just finished something very good, we will often times witness a rainbow and there is no rain or clouds.Today again at KECHARA FOREST RETREAT after they finished their work in the evening another clear rainbow appeared in the clear sky reported to me by Datuk May and ten other Kecharians volunteering there today. See the beautiful picture of the rainbow...TR)

I prostrate to my Guru the consummate Lojong master who teaches us how to laugh at death by creating right causes n how to regret n cry at death by doing stupid things. Exciting indeed that we can do either.
I rather die w natural smile than a fake one made up by the embalmers.
Thank you for reminding we hv choice.
Gratefully yours

Death is exciting. It's when all the thƬngs we did COME BACK TO US. And we can't sweet talk or seduce our way out. We have to face what we have done. Very exciting to see what's going to happen to us! Hello death, give me what I deserve!! Tsem Rinpoche

Dear rinpoche,

This morning 9 (Cynthia, fat monk, June, Eric Choong, Jace, Khoo, Fiona and daughter, Lanse) went to KFR. Fat monk brought his friend's daughter Karen, Cynthia Ng brought her mother and daughter.

We met Paul and Pastor Yek Yee leading another 2 groups of people. Most of members are quite clear about what's happening and they are excited about the whole KFR idea, believing that it'll attract people to this land.

After visiting KFR, some of us went to visit KWPC land too. Now KWPC seems very real to us already. Everyone seems to have enjoyed this trip a lot.

Thank you Rinpoche for your skilfull way of showing us the direction that can bring us true benefit.

With folded hands,
Lanse

We are still trying to figure out WHAT this is!! Looks human though! Looks 'harmless'...do you know what it is?? Leave your comment and let us know what you think it is??? Everyone should offer a minimum of 100,000 lights to Buddha Vajra Yogini before you die. Do not procrastinate. All other unfinished works is not so worrisome. But your spiritual practice incomplete at the time of death is very worrisome. Start your butterlamp retreats in KFR. Don't delay. Tsem Rinpoche

If we still pursue relationships why hasn't it worked in the past for us? If we are still looking for it and still haven't found it yet, then we must examine what is it in us that doesn't obtain it. If we are in a relationship and we feel stuck, trapped or disenchanted, isn't that a message from our wisdom deep in us we need to achieve something higher? Go for more than finding comfort in the lonliness of false company already.. Contemplate. Tsem Rinpoche
