Hilarious short video!!!!
This is really a hilarious video. Take a few minutes out from your day and watch. It is not in English, but just watch..the expressions and body language are universal. It is a stunt pulled in the shopping centre to show the public how sheltered they are.
It is amazing to see who some people are outraged to see how ‘the meat is produced’ in front of their eyes in this video. I mean why did they come to buy sausages in the first place if they are going to be so outraged??

Where on earth do people think meat comes from, some mythical meat tree?

How idealistic some are about where meat comes from… I mean where do people think meat actually comes from? It falls from the sky or grow on trees perfectly and effortlessly without killing, without blood and without pain? Animals suffer tremendously before they are murdered and during the slaughter process. They know they are going to be killed. Animals are put through tremendous pain before we eat them and that is a simple fact to realize each time we consider swallowing their flesh.
If everyone went to the animal slaughterhouses before buying meat, many would give up immediately irregardless of religious beliefs, morals or ethics. If you cannot visit slaughter houses, please go on youtube and search for them. It is worth your time to educate yourself on the truth. There are thousands of videos… inform yourself. If you are scared to see the slaughterhouse videos, why are you not scared of eating meat?
Do not eat meat. Do not harm animals. Do not bring pain to anyone especially those who cannot speak.

You are right Rinpoche!
‘I mean where do people think meat actually comes from? It falls from the sky or grow on trees perfectly and effortlessly without killing, without blood and without pain?’
I used to think that way too. How ignorant! I used to go to the market and see the slaughter in front of my eyes yet I ignored the pain and sufferings they were going through. Thank you for the constant reminder on how they suffer just to end up in our stomach and into waste.
I think this is a clever and effective way of making meat eaters confront the truth of their part in the butchering of animals. (This is certainly an inspirational idea to have a ‘Freshest Free Meat Road Shows’ along the same lines). What i got from the video is that most people are “blind” to the part they play in the treatment and torture of animals BUT once they are made to be involved (either voluntarily or involuntarily) their humanity and kindness kick in and they are immediately repulsed by the very thought that an animal has to die. I am very certain that those people in the video will not be looking at a sausage the same way again.
The need to bring awareness to the public is paramount. And to bring the message in an innovative way so that the message gets in before the ego and conflict gets in the way.
This is brilliant and definitely worth circulating. I wonder is super markets here will allow such things.
F everyone had to kiill the own poultry or sjaughter their own animal for their. Own meat I can say many of them would become vegetarian. Because they don’t see the cruelty and pain they create to the innocent animal. . I can say angry at my friends from mahikari and my muslim friends who say these animals are put on earth for our consumption. Always say as long as u don’t don’t make them suffer but the process of being suffocated is suffering even though the knife is sharp. Sigh I just don’t have the knowledge to debate with them. My mahikari friends would always say purify them before eating would remove the toxins from the meat wish I have the wisdom to share with them to be vegetarian.
It is a prank, but yet, it shows how people are ignorant about where the meat come from. We always want to think that our meat is produced without sufferings from the animal, but after watching the “Earthings” video, we know it is not true. Most if not all the meat we consumed are produced by human deliberately killing them.
Yes, please do not eat meat, do not harm animals and do not bring pain to anyone especially those who cannot speak.
Initially I thought to myself, isn’t it obvious? Just like how a french fry comes from a potato… that sausage could not have come from anywhere else but from a pig.
However, I must admit that when I wasn’t a vegetarian I didn’t see things as clearly as I do now. When I saw a fried chicken leg, I didn’t think about the chicken itself – all I saw was a fried-skinned chicken leg. Not the body of the chicken, nor the head, nor the blood that ran through its veins, nor the little feet, and definitely not the pain and feelings of the chicken. I didn’t care at the time, the chicken tasted damn good.
This video is funny and meaningful – although I doubt that the point of the video was to make people think about what they consume… it just so happens that that was the effect!
Two thumbs up!
Yeah Jean Mei I can totally related to what you wrote here. If Rinpoche hadn’t given us the Earthlings video, I would still be eating bbq wings and roasted pork! eeew! Just the thought of it now creates a tight lump in my stomach and throat.
Someone told me this story when we were in USA last year; that one of his American girlfriends was served Steamed Fish (with the head, tail and all!). She was screaming at the dinner table. He was puzzled as she is not a vegetarian. When the drama was over, she said that she did not know that the fillets that she has been eating came from a Fish!!! Is this stupidity, ignorance, or just lack of knowledge!
Reminds me of my friends piglet story, he was working on a farm fixing a fridge and went to tell the worker about the repair he had made to the machine.
He found her in one of the pig barns collecting the dead piglets and putting them in a stainless steel bucket. I don’t think he had the stomach for seeing them dead at such a young age but thought to himself, stainless steel, thats nice and hygienic and took a comfort in that. The two of them carried on through the barn discussing the fridge problem and collecting deaders.
He said that they then found themselve stood infront of a big stainless steel hopper and agsin he was impressed and found distraction in the apparent care for hygiene shown by the farmer, no sooner had the thought formed than she pressed a button on the hopper which he now realised was a big mincer which proceeded to pour the now liquid piglets back into the same bucket for feeding to the pigs…..
His shock at seeing this manifested as annoyance at the fact it was months before he could stand the smell of bacon cooking as it brought him right back to that day, and he really liked his bacon butties…
I think this prank is the best educational prank I have ever seen. The lady tasted the sausage and from her expression, the sausage was damn tasty. Then later on, when she saw how the “live” pig was put inside the machine and out come the other end some freshly made sausages, her face was disgusted.
It reminds me that we should be always look at things further and beyond our simple samsaric pleasures.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this video. What a great teaching!!!
The video looks funny. But it’s the truth. How can people don’t know where are their food come from. People need to know the truth and always be reminded. No one wants sufferings. Basically people do have compassion. just that we always choose to ignore the truth. Let the desire take over. This apply to everything in our lives.
I think this is such a brilliant idea to convey a powerful message like this. I had a good laugh watching the video.
I wonder if social awareness campaigns like this work in the Asian countries. I find Chinese seafood restaurants terrible. Customers will personally point and select the fish and other seafood they want for dinner straight from the tank so that it’s FRESH. Fresh or no fresh, it’s still a dead animal. Sigh.
I admire your efforts to promote vegetarianism. However, I’m unsure if you are aware that the dog food fed to your pet dogs are very much meat based. No disrespect intended, just pointing out a fact.
This is a funny video on the surface. But if look deeper, it it making a big impact on people who loves to eat meat and meat products. Most of us are not exposed to reality on how meat comes to our table. To most people living in the city, meat comes from the supermarket in nice and clean packaging. We are too ignorant to realise all the pain and sufferings the animal have to go through before ending up on our dinner plates. The Earthlings really helped in my family’s decision to switch to meatless diet.
Hahaha, this video is very funny, Rinpoche, thank you for sharing. The expressions of the public is so varied and they seem so shocked as if it never occured to them that pork sausages comes from pigs.
I guess people never really bothered to find out deeper into their thought process when a plate of meat is presented infront of them. I’m thinking this is what we generally think (and the same goes for me, prior to watching Earthlings and related videos of how our meat comes about from Rinpoche’s Blog):
1. See a plate of meat
2. Yum, food to nourish myself
3. Eat
4. Digest
Within that thought process, what is missing is this : “Hang on a minute, where did this come from? How did it get from the farm to my plate? How did this living being die, to end up on my dinner plate?”.
However, the fact that meat is food has been implanted within their mindstream from a very young age, hence being ignorant about where it comes from and never really finding out the truth.
The onus lies on those WHO KNOW, to educate those who don’t know about what is the truth about the meat industry, because those who know have been fortunate enough to be educated by others, or blessed with a curious mind.
If most of us had to kill our food I think most of us will be vegetarians. Especially we have not been brought up to kill our own food. The big food chain who wants to sell meat and make a lot of profit will only want to show you meat nicely canned, and packaged without all the horro and violence that came along the production process of a slab of meat.
The meat that we eat came from a lot of suffering, pain and anguish not only from the past events but also future events to come from eating that slab of meat. It is a clever prank, that shows how many of us fool ourselves to carry on even after much evidence has been presented to us.
This is a very good “educate” idea to educate people to become vegetarian. Because of the Greed , many of us choosing to ignore seeing the pain that they bring to others. Ignoring the truth and hide in the “so call comfort zone”.
