Patrik Baboumian – Germany’s Strongest Man 2011
Born in 1979, Patrik Baboumian is a psychology student. Born in Iran, he moved to Hattenhof, Germany together with his mother and grandmother when he was 7 years old. His heritage is Armenian-German and when he was young he gained an interest in weight lifting.
He began training in his teens, and when he turned 20, he had won his first International Federation of Body Building & Fitness (IFBB) German junior championship!
He started participating in more tournaments, competitions and championships and came in first place for many of them and a reigning champion for a few: 2007 German Champion (105 kg Strongman, GFSA), 2009 World Record Log Lift (165 kg), 2010 German Log Lift Record (180 kg or 397 pounds!). These are just to name a few.
He only weighs 105 kg and is 171cm tall, but all those years of hard work and training has led to Patrik Baboumian winning the title of Germany’s Strongest Man 2011 in August!
Want to know his secret???
He wrote the following on his own blog, Armenian-viking.com: “After being LW champion in 2007 and 2009 and HW vice-champion in 2010, I finally hold the German crown in strength sports in my hands. It was a very hard battle in the rain and I had to fight against my injured calf as well but at the end I was victorious! Now I have proven finally, that being vegetarian makes you a better athlete!”
So… whoever said that being a vegetarian makes you weak?? Hehe

Patrik achieved this from a plant-based diet.

Patrik Baboumian deserved his titles not only with hard work, but also by his wonderful philosophy of life. Unfortunately, this setting in the sports world is not very commonly used …
Thank you Rinpoche for the post. Love his ending on the quote…
“Now I have proven finally, that being vegetarian makes you a better athlete!”
Majority of the people think in order to stay healthy and strong, we have to consume meat. I have known a friend, she was a vegetarian since she was young, she has never consumed any type of meat before. She is very healthy and rarely falls sick.
I have been a vegetarian (most of the time, hehe) since May this year, I did not become skinny, I did not become sick. Instead, my skin condition is better now.
Try to start the vegetarian maybe once a week, and slowly reduce the consumption of meat, you have to try to see the results.
Lose fat, gain muscle, have a clearer mind, adopt a vegetarian diet! It is also said to be the healthiest and most compassionate thing a practioner should do for himself and others, particularly the animals. Replace eating of animals flesh with proteins such as tofu products, and vegetables like tempeh, lentils, avocadoes, nuts, tropical fuits and scores of many others. If Patrik Baboumain can achieve the title of being Germany’s strongest man 2011, by avoiding eating of animals meat and being “on a plant-based Diet”, we too can be healthy and strong without animals meat, but as a vegetarian too! Egregious acts of animals cruelty, including abuse and neglect must be stopped. Practioners, especially those of Buddhist faith should join in, in-support of the withdrawalof those abusive and torturers industrial killing of animals. In the short time we have on this planet, please do have the compassion to care for these poor, helpless, suffering animals!
This article will be most helpful information for my interview with NTV7 tomorrow! I will definitely mention this and bring people to read about it here. Thank you Rinpoche.
