This artist is spectacular. I wish Tsongakapa in this style can be painted also. I wanted to share with you the beauty and the unique style of painting  by this talented artist…May the artist be blessed. Refreshingly non-traditional for a change.

Dear friends,

I had the great fortune to receive the White & Green Tara empowerments from His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche back in the 80′s. Anything from Kyabje Zong Rinpoche received was and is greatly treasured. Sometimes I think to myself how come I was so lucky to meet one of the top from Tibet all the way in Los Angeles and being so young also. It’s like a dream now. One of the best times I experienced in this life was my time with His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. The events and memories forever fresh in my mind.

Tara is the Yidam of many great Masters, Mahasiddhas of both India, Mongolia, Nepal and Tibet. And now all over the world. Her practices are very well known for their effectiveness. She has 21 principal forms…each form is a complete refuge of the other 2o and all the Three Jewels in fact. If you take Tara as your Yidam (main meditational Buddha) it is complete practice unto itself…which form you take on depends on the individual…all 21-forms is complete..

White Tara is a complete synthesis of all the Three Jewels including the other 20 Taras. Each Tara is specific for a specific ailment we have. For example Black Tara can conquer negative spirits. Yellow Tara can overcome financial difficulties. Red Tara can control a certain problem in the environment in an area…and so on. Tara’s benefits are much more than for a specific ailment, but for now this would suffice.

When we take refuge in White Tara, she is a complete refuge. Her three eyes see into the past, present and future simultaneously. She perceives all knowables/phenomena directly. The third eye represents her complete state of omniscience, in other words, Buddhahood.  Only a Buddha can perceive all there is to know in existence. Her right hand is in the gesture of granting mundane and supermundane boons. These boons can be received based upon our practice of her.

Elegantly her left hand with the fourth finger and the thumb holds a lotus stem leading to an open bloom, a bud and one flower gone to fruit. Open bloom represents the current Buddha Shakyamuni. The bud is Maitreya. The flower gone to fruit is the past Buddha Krukkachanda prior to Shakyamuni. Tara symbolized by her lotus has all the dharmas of the Buddhas of the past, present and future.

Her legs in full lotus posture represents she is directly in full meditative concentration of emptiness…she abides in it and operates from it..another sign of her full enlightenment. It is also a reminder for us that practice of meditation is essential for enlightenment. She wears the five ornaments plus her own body represents the 6 paramitas which is totally necessary for our practice in the beginning, middle and for the end. Her body being resplendently beautiful is an ornament in itself..as she has the perfection of Buddhahood.

She has seven eyes representative that she sees into the 6 realms of rebirth and the 7th eye is that she sees the way out or direct cause of samsara. Seeing this direct cause of samsara she acts according to each sentient beings’ aptitude to liberate them of their inner/outer samsaras.

She is white in color as in this form she is most ‘potent’ to heal diseases (inner/outer) and its root causes. When we take on this form for our practice we can increase our life span effortlessly to further our practice, gain tremendous amounts of merit towards liberation, and increase our wisdom (7 types) exponentially.

She has blue black hair half tied up in three knots and half falling freely around her shoulders/back. The hair tied up shows us she has reached the highest goal-Nirvana. The hair falling down is, although liberated, she does not remain in Nirvana, but emanates constantly to benefit others. She returns to Samsara willingly to assist those karmically ready always. She abides in samsara without any samsara abiding in her….She is youthful and young like that of a sixteen year old maiden reminding us that  Enlightenment is permanent and does not fade. She has budding breasts filled with ambrosia like a mother ready to nurse her child. Her budding breasts signifies she is ever ready to bestow the profound 84,000 dharmas as taught by Shakyamuni like a mother giving life sustaining milk. The ‘milk’ is dharma and we if fortunate are her children..Her back rests on a full moon as she has accomplished complete bodhicitta. She also sits on a full moon as she operates from emptiness. The moon is representative of aspirational and completed emptiness. Under the moon is a lotus, being she has attained full bodhicitta.

Aeons ago, during the time of the previous Buddha (Kyabje Zong Rinpoche relayed)…there was a princess with a name of Moon….or Dawa..she was very virtuous and beloved by her father the King. She had open access to her father’s treasury. She was gentle, kind, compassionate and very spiritual in nature. Unlike other young girls, she was not interested in the meaningless affairs of youth such as games, garments, princes, foods, walks…. She was an ardent follower of the then Buddha and attended his teachings, sponsored the talks, foods, resting villas, sangha and whatever needs arose. She was his student and benefactor…One day she happened upon an old, but very sincere monk who rejoiced in Moon Princess’ virtues and sponsorship. He addressed her with respect and said she should dedicate all her virtues to obtaining a body of a man as in a woman’s impure form, enlightenment was not possible. She gently folded her hands and replied to the senior monk with great respect and said that the Perfect Buddha said all can obtain liberation irregardless of being in male or female bodies. There and then, the noble Moon Princess took a vow and prayed to take rebirth as a female. And that she would when enlightened take on a female form always to liberate others….in her lifetime, she did intense practices…she gained the much treasured goal of liberation…The earth shook, animals came near, gentle winds blew, the gods blew conch shells, rainbows appeared, supernatural beings such as nagas, gods, demigods, yakshas all paid homage to this magnificent noble lady as TARA WAS BORN……….

If we have the great merits, fortune and affinity for Tara to be our Buddha, we should devote all our energies into her practice. We should set up a  magnificent shrine to this Noble Lady Buddha, make vast offerings, and engage in our practices with full confidence. All the Mahasiddhas and Mahapanditas such as Nagarjuna, Atisha, Tsongkapa fully relied upon her..so we should have full confidence in this magnificent Lady…We should obtain as many as we can holy images of her and pass to people as gifts. Last year, one of the pujas for my long life/health was to make one Tara statue for each year of my life and gift it to other people. Even creating a statue of this Lady Buddha has such benefits. I did make the statues in fact…I was very happy to do so.

Many statues of Tara in Tibet, Nepal and India have spoken. For curious reasons, her statues are easier to manifest speech. I came across two very holy statues in temples that my teachers said they have spoken on a few occasions. They did not speak to me, but all the same, I made offerings to these holy statues with great reverance and joy. Many pilgrims visited these holy images monthly…..

In Nepal, in the middle of Kathmandu, there is a very sacred image of White Tara around two feet in height that Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche always recommends for us to visit and make offerings. She is said to have manifested miracles in the past and is very blessed. I had the fortune to bring many freinds to visit this Tara. It is also said, if karmically you do not have the merits, it will be very hard to find the location of this image….

I have included some prayers we can do daily to Mother Tara. We can do all of it..or some of it..or one of it or however we like. No hard and fast rules. The prayers are very powerful and it includes her sacred mantra. We can recite her long mantra or her short mantra. It is up to us. What is important is to do it daily and from our hearts.

I was inspired to write and share all this when I came across the 52 SPECTACULAR paintings of Lady Buddha Tara.

I wish everyone well. I wish all of you happiness. I wish all are under the protection of this noble being called Tara.

Tsem Rinpoche

P.S.

The three prayers I’ve included below can be done one after the other daily (that would be beautiful and most beneficial), or just two of them, or just pick one. See your time and commitments. They can be used to bless one’s car, new house, land, or before a journey. We can recite this to bless even our pendants, water, food, environments, gifts, thangkas, rosaries…etc.. They can be recited if we feel uneasy or in an area/place with negative energy. They can be recited for healing, fulfilling of wishes or simply to supplicate Tara for someone we care about. Her prayers and mantras are excellent to be recited for the sick or our pets. Let the mantras be blown onto our pets…excellent. If someone is sick, we can recite these prayers (Being vegetarian is best for Tara practice. If not, if we are going to do the prayers and perhaps mantra 100,ooo times for example, we take a vow to Tara to refrain from meat and dedicate to the healing of a person or pet during that time) as much as possible. It is excellent to do these prayer for our parents whether they are living or passed. Excellent to do these prayers and dedicate to our teachers’ lives and work..It automaticaly increases our lifespan. Tara helps dharma projects or beneficial projects to manifest much faster. Her practice has so many incredible benefits.

A GEM TO INCREASE LIFE AND WISDOM
A PRAISE OF WHITE TARA

By GYALWA GENDUN DRUB
The First Dalai Lama (1391 – 1474)

Homage to the Female Buddha beautiful with youth / Who sits on seats of white lotus and moon in nature / Spreading with stainless compassion and knowledge, / Who captures the radiance of snow mountains.

Homage to the Youthful One with budding breasts, / Who has one face and two arms, sits in the Vajra posture, / Is bold with grace and calm, has a full moon as backrest / And is filled with great bliss.

Homage to the Ultimately Generous One whose right hand, / Showing the mudra Supreme Giving / Easily releases boundless karmas of peace, increase, power and wrath / As well as the eight siddhis and even supreme Buddhahood.

Homage to the Spiritual Mother who gives birth to Buddhas / Past, present and future; whose left hand / Supporting a blue lotus, grants protection / From lions, elephants, fires and all eight terrors.

Homage to the Refuge of the World, who has eyes / In hands and feet gazing at the four doors of freedom / And who leads all living creatures / Toward the isle of blissful liberation.

Homage to she whose face unites / The beauty of a million autumn moons, / Whose wide eyes gaze with compassion / Whose Joyous mouth smiles equally on all.

Homage to she with head adorned by Amitayus, Boundless Life, / The mere thought of whom grants life and wisdom / Whose hand, in the contemplative mudra, / Hold a vase filled with ambrosia of immortality.

Homage to the All-Beautiful One whose crown / Steals the light of sun and moon, / Whose sapphire hair is half-knotted on top, / And half falling freely over her shoulder.

Homage to the Majestic One of precious ornament blazing, / Whose crown, earrings, necklaces, arm-bands, / Bracelets, anklets and belt so elegantly arranged / Surpass the ornaments of men and gods.

Homage to she of celestial raiment, / Whose shoulder-sash and skirt / Hug her body like rainbows / Hug the crystal mountains.

Homage to the goddess before whose lotus feet / Vishnu, Indra, Shiva, the anti-gods, spirits, / Men, semi-humans and all the world / Submit themselves in devotion.

Merely by reciting your mantra, / Those who make offering at your lotus feet / Gain immortality, wisdom and merit / And attain all desired siddhis; to you I bow down.

The knowledge, compassion and perfect actions of all Buddhas / Appear in the form of the beautiful goddess / I take refuge in you and offer you my prayers; / Pray eliminate all my obstacles and fulfil all my aims.

Quickly release your perfect action of peace, / Calming all interferences to my practices for enlightenment; / Interferences such as the eight terrors, / Sickness, demons and other harmful agents, inner and outer.

Quickly release your perfect action of increase which multiplies / All good qualities, such as life, merit, unapprehending compassion, / The stainless wisdom of learning, contemplation and meditation, / And the three higher trainings.

Quickly release your perfect action of power, / Which causes gods, men and spirits / To humbly bow before you / And which fulfils all wishes of the mind.

Quickly release your perfect action of wrath, / Which with punishments befitting the evils done / Destroys demons, interferences and hindrances / Hateful opposing Buddhadharma and its holders.

Pray, bestow quick and easy attainment of siddhis / Such as the magic sword, mystic eye-medicine, fast walking, / The food pill and the precious vase; / And even mahamudra, the highest siddhi.
In brief, from now until enlightenment / I respectfully make offering at your lotus feet. / I need seek no other refuge / Out of compassion gaze upon me and quickly grant protection.

By the meritorious energy of this practice / May the transcended, perfect Tara / Look upon me forever with pleasure / And never leave me, even for a moment.

May all sentient beings after death take rebirth / Before Amitayus in Sukhavati, Land of Pure Joy; / May they live in the ways of the great Bodhisattvas / And come to equal Avalokiteshvara, Lord of Compassion.

May I realize the oceans of Sutras and Tantras / To be able to pass them on to others; / And until samsara be emptied may I strive / To uphold the victory banner of practicing exactly as taught.

Colophon: this praise of exalted White Tara, supreme mother of all Buddhas, was written by the monk Gyalwa Gendun Drub while he was residing in the Hermitage of Great Awakening at the Tegchen Potreng.

Can recite this once a day for someone sick, for someone who has passed, an animal/pet or for ourselves followed by the mantra. Very excellent to recite this mantra and blow on our pets also or into a fish tank. We can even blow into bottled water and pour the water into lakes, streams, rivers to bless the environment. If we are moving into a new house, we can recite this prayer to bless it or even the land.

White Tara Long Mantra: OM TARE TUTTARE TORE MAMA AYUH PUNYE JANA PUTRIM KURU YE SOHA

Thus concludes this praise based on the root mantra and the offering of the twenty-one homages. Can recite this in Tibetan phonetics or English. It is very beneficial to recite this as much as possible if we wish to fulfill a long heartfelt wish. Those wishing a child will get one, those wishing a son will get one, those wishing a daughter will receive one…those wishing sustenance will receive or before a long journey to be safe, this 21 praises is very potent. All of our wishes can be fulfilled when we recite this with faith and diligently. When one takes refuge in Tara, all does go right.

A SONG OF LONGING FOR TARA, THE INFALLIBLE
By Lozang Tanpa Gyalts’an

Homage to Guru Arya-Tara!

1. Three Infallible Jewels of Refuge combined
In one, Divine Mother Whose nature is Compassion,
I bow to You from my heart! Till I’m enlightened,
Support me, I pray, with the hook of Your Compassion!

2. I call the Jewels as witness – from not just my mouth,
But the depth of my inmost heart and bones, I pray –
Think of me somewhat! Show me Your smiling face!
Loving One, grant me the nectar of Your Speech!

3. Others cheat us with their made-up teachings,
Selling Dharma for money that’s marked by impermanence,
Proclaiming ignorance knowledge, puffed up with pride
Through the eight worldly Dharmas, gurus great and small.

4. Since I cannot trust such Friends of degenerate times,
The principal Guru of mine is You Yourself.
Inspire me, Mother of the nature of love!
Arouse Your great power of Compassion! Think of me!

5. Relied on as Refuge, none of them will deceive us;
But, seeing the ways of this degenerate age,
Most Buddhas sink down into the bliss of Nirvana;
Some, though compassionate, have weak karmic connection.

6. Since I have no other Yidam deity,
My principal Deity is You Yourself.
Grant me siddhis, Mother of loving nature!
Arouse Your great power of compassion! Think of me!

7. Most protectors don’t show their powers and skills –
Disgusted with their practitioners, they do not act.
Others, proud of worldly fame, may be
Good for a while, but cheat us in the end.

8. Since I cannot trust protectors such as these,
My principal Protector is You Yourself.
Fulfil the Activities, Mother of loving nature!
Arouse Your great power of Compassion! Think of me!

9. Common worldly riches, the meaning like the name,
Arouse defilements and bind one in Samsara.
What jewels, except the Aryas, though they grant wishes,
Can let me take even a sesame seed when I die?

10. Since I cannot trust illusory riches,
The principal wealth I have is You Yourself.
Grant my desires, O Mother of loving nature!
Arouse Your great power of compassion! Think of me!

11. Not fit to be trusted even for one day,
Their thoughts determinedly set on misbehaviour,
Just acting friendly, these friends of no virtue
Play the friend when they wish, the enemy when they don’t.

12. Since I cannot trust these friends of degenerate times,
The principal friend of mine is You Yourself.
Be close to me, O Mother of loving nature!
Arouse Your great power of compassion! Think of me!

13. In short, my Guru, my Deity and Protector,
My Refuge, dwelling, food, wealth, friends and all-
Everything whatsoever I wish, You are;
So make me accomplish everything easily!

14. Let me stop also my present stubborn mind,
And rouse the Compassion that even on coming to give
A billion times for every being’s sake
My body and life tires not – inspire me thus!

15. The uprooter of Samsara’s maker, self-grasping,
The deep Middle Way, so hard to understand,
Avoiding all errors of the two extremes,
Pure Right View – Please inspire me to realise it!

16. Wishing, for sentient beings’ sake, to win Buddhahood,
Let me not think for a moment of my own pleasure,
But dedicating all virtues to beings and Doctrine,
Perfect my renounced Bodhi-mind – inspire me thus!

17. Rich in the Aryas’ Treasures, faith and the rest,
Let me become the best of Buddha-sons, able
To keep the smallest precept taught by the Conquerors,
Never contemptuous of it – inspire me thus!

18. In outward behaviour keeping the Hearer’s conduct,
Let me, in inward belief, revere the Profound
Vajrayana, and practice the Two-Stage Path,
So winning Enlightenment swiftly – inspire me thus!

19. Whether I’m happy or troubled, whether things
Go well or badly for me, whatever I do
You know about it, Venerable Tara, so
Think of me lovingly, my only Mother!

20. Myself and all the beings with hopes of me
I offer to You, Venerable Tara!
Make us Your own, and to the highest Pure Land
Make us go quickly, with no births intervening!

21. My mothers, who do not follow the Conquerors’ teachings,
All mother sentient beings, whoever they are –
With Your hook of compassionate skilful Means
Please transform their minds into Dharma!

22. Reciting this at morning, noon and night,
And bearing in mind Venerable Tara,
Let all sentient beings with hopes of me
Be born in whatever Pure Land they desire!

23. May every member of the Three precious Jewels,
Especially the Venerable Mother, compassionate-natured,
Look after me till I reach the point of Enlightenment
Letting me conquer quickly the four Maras’ hosts!

If we can, we can recite this prayer of the Infallible to Tara immediately upon waking, at noon and at night before sleeping. If we recite this from our hearts and the very core of our beings, it is said we will see Mother Tara’s face directly….But if anything we should recite when we can…It is beneficial.

    • Zla'od on Jan 6, 2011 at 10:32 am

It’s so hard to decide! I’m torn between “Birds and Islands” (no. 4), “Snow Falling” (no. 8), and “Mountains” (no. 47), but if forced to choose just one, would pick “Birds and Islands.”

Several of these seem to have been inspired by Shaivite iconography.

In “Praise to the 21 Taras,” interestingly, nowhere does the text actually say that it is addressed to 21 Taras. For example, there is no description of color, etc. All of the verses could be read as if they were describing the same deity.

They are all beautiful. The artist is truely talented.
I have 2 that appeals to me – Tara with offerings and Tara with Owl.

    • Andrew James Boon on Jan 7, 2011 at 3:43 pm

      Dearest Rinpoche,

I am torn between two: One is the White Tara with Pomegranates… reason being these fruits are my mother’s favourite and it is not very common to find and having the connection of mother tara with my own mother was very apt. The other is the White Tara with Rain as I find it so serene and beautiful. I always loved the rain and I find this very moving for me.

      Much love… Andrew

    • patsy on Jan 7, 2011 at 10:37 pm

It’s so difficult to choose cos everyone is spectacular and beautiful. My final decision is “White Tara by the Water” and “White Tara in the Garden” because it depicts Tara in very feminine form and I like the poise which is very graceful and the elegance of the face features.

    • ACL on Jan 8, 2011 at 3:08 pm

they are all the same. multi-ifforusly beautiful! who did this? i would enjoy seeing them all on a wall all at once together.

    • Josh Akers on Jan 9, 2011 at 12:23 pm

I like White Tara in the Rain.

It looks like the rain could be the downpour of Samsara and Tara is not affected by it. Also I must like it simply because I live in Oregon where it rains a lot.

    Dear Rinpoche,

The images of Tara are stunning – a very talented artist indeed! The image I was most drawn to was White Tara with Chrysanthemums. It seems so full and free and vibrant and – I’m not exactly sure why – it reminds me of some works by Vincent van Gogh.

    Kind regards,
    Sandy

Dear Rinpoche. Thank You so much for putting this beautiful pictures of White Tara. I put some as my desk background on computer. Very inspiring for me. As well thank You for practices. Very precious.
I can still remember when I just started with Dharma practices, seeing Tara image was first to really inspire me and still does every single day. I bow down to Her.

Thank you for this post Rinpoche. Because I haven’t expressed my gratitude for all your effort in this blog earlier, I would like to thank you again. As for the picture, “White Tara with Birds” is the one I’m choosing. It’s simply beautiful.

    Dear Rinpoche,

I noticed there is slight variation in text “Praises to the 21 Taras” from what posted in your website.
    http://tsemtulku.com/resources/prayers/prayers-deity-prayer/praises-to-the-21-taras/
Is it OK to follow the one from your website or add in the missing text.

    • tsemtulku on Jan 6, 2011 at 9:54 am

Yes, there are various translations. Please add in what you feel is missing. Thanks

    Lo-gsar-bde-legs!

I like the White Tara With Waves. If you would, please let me know why does age 16 representing youthful and young like? Why not 15 or 17? Has it anything to do with puberty?

May you live a long life to turn the wheel of dharma.

    Dearest Rinpoche,

Thank you so much for your valuable time for explaining in details regarding the Lady Buddha. The images of White Tara are stunning. I had a hard time deciding which I like. In the end, I have decided White Tara with snow falling, White Tara with Owl, White Tara in the garden and lastly White Tara with offerings and White Tara with stars. But I think I like White tara in the garden best..

I do truly appreciate you explaining to us in details regarding Tara. It means a lot to me because that helps me a lot when I do my prayers.

With folded hands, wishing you good health and happiness always,

Very beatiful! ART IS HOLY, when done from the heart, it brings joy and uplift our state of mind.

My favourites are: White Tara with birds, for the etheral effect, and White Tara with blossom and cave for its touchinglike very pictural quality.
    thank youuuu!

  19. joey wong on Jan 7, 2011 at 12:17 am

I love the expression and the art of White Tara with stars! She looks so compassionate and nurturing! That piece really captured Tara’s expressions!

And thank you Rinpoche…the explanation of Tara is really beautiful! I never get bored of it….i first read her prayers in Martin Wilson’s In Praise Of Tara and it blew me away! Re-reading it here brings back so much memories of the time i first read that book and encountered Mother Tara…

  20. Paris on Jan 7, 2011 at 3:35 am

Rinpoche, thank you for these beautiful photos. I want all of them! Am downloading some now to be put on my phone wallpaper.

The explanations and teachings about Tara never ever boring; it’s like I’m hearing or reading them for the first time every time Rinpoche gives teachings about her. Thank you also for the prayers, so that all of us have the chance to connect to her blessings. She certainly is very special and all the luckier for us that there’s 21 of her!

    Eminence, Dharma Prince,

Many years ago, when I was a market vendor, I had a “cardiac episode” while packing up for the night. I asked my Girlfriend and companion to drive home, which was a long drive, more than 100 miles.

It became clear to me that I was going to die very shortly.

I was not as well-educated in Dharma matters back then.

I began to recite Tara Mantras as fast as I could, thinking all the while that, while I, myself was more than ready for the end of my life, my Mother, whom I cared for, and my Daughter, who is Autistic, and suffers from other psychological problems, both still needed me very badly.

Thousands and thousands of Mantras I recited, keeping these thoughts in mind.

Suddenly, I felt very calm, and I thought I was starting to actually die, but instead, I felt as if I were floating near the bottom of a cold lake… but the cold was not unpleasant… I saw little white “tiles” floating down at me from above, where there was a beautiful white light. These little tiles, in order, spelled the words “16 Ba’al”…

Soon, I felt much better, and by the time we arrived home, I was fine.

I did not die. White Tara in her infinite mercy examined my situation, and has extended my life for a number of years. My mother is now passed, and my daughter is growing up, and soon, she will not need me either. I think, then, I will probably die, but I am so pleased to have lived to be of help to my Mother, and was able to see my daughter through her childhood.

What the “16 Ba’al” ever meant, I do not know… some wise people have told me that it represented the “16 strengths that counteract the 16 weaknesses of men.” In any event, I am certain to find it out one day, I think.

This has been a good life. It is the first life in which I have encountered the Dharma, as far as I can tell. That makes it very special and precious indeed. It will not be my last human life, although I am personally hoping for rebirth in the Lapis Lazuli Pure Land, with the Medicine Buddha, so that I can practice without so much difficulty, and distraction from a defective body.

Many thanks to Tara, and many thanks to you, Dharma Prince.

    Love,

    –Tom

Wonderful Tara, she clears all obstacles for any practitioner. I can share from my own experience that if anyone is experiencing any difficulty in any form, just pray to her with sincerity and recite her mantra. She will definitely help. And the situation will change somehow. Even if the result is not what you expected but Tara will help according to one’s karma.

So so many inspirations received from her and my friends too.She is truly incredible and the activity of all the Buddhas! Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha

I see trees rustling in the gentle evening breeze. Nearby lake with gentle fishes full and content… Birds flying overhead. Grass growing abundantly. Flowers so colorful and the green hill in the nearby distance beckoning me to come home…in my room is a large and ancient Buddha statue with butterlamps flames dancing on the face..I see this in my minds eye and wish to be in the forest…my only longing and only wish..will it ever manifest? Dear friends, This is a well made Paranormal real life story. Nothing scary in this episode, but very powerful show of love and willpower. I want you to please watch this carefully and see how a mother reaches out to save her child. Her will was so strong she left her body. The child saw a light leaving the mother and going to the road although she died and ‘found’ people to save her child. Very touching and beautiful story. This is what I believe happened, what do you think? http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31937

    (Monday, May 21. 2012 08:21 AM)
Dear friends, It is so fortunate I have the good karma that I took rebirth in dharma, near my great masters and to become a monk. I always contemplate how lucky I am to have taken this human form and come across dharma.
Just think when I was seven years old in Howell, New Jersey, I was living ten mins away from a living Master Kensur Lobsang Tharchin who was a direct disciple of His Holiness Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, HH Trijang Rinpoche and HH Zong Rinpoche. What are the chances of that??? In Howell, New Jersey of all places!! I don’t think it was a coincidence, but it was the culmination of the little bit of dharma I must have done in my previous lives as ordinary silly persons. Whatever the karma I created to be among these masters, their lineage and teachings, I am doing my best to replicate in this life, so my next life will have the same fortune. I don’t want to revert back to being empty handed in my next life…
Can you imagine, in 1979 Howell, New Jersey His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited our temples there. And I had the incredible chance to feast my samsaric eyes on His golden face. I was just 14 years old and I didn’t go to India to see Him, but His Holiness came to Howell, New Jersey where I was living ten mins away!!! Then I also recieved the 8 Verses of Thought transformation teachings/commentary from His Holiness Dalai Lama at that time and oral transmission of Om Mani Peme Hung. I cried and cried and was overwhelmed at that time. I could not believe and still cannot I recieved teachings from Chenresig Himself. I had painted a four armed Avalokitesvara painting with my self composed (silly prayers) written on the back and offered to His Holiness directly..From deep inside of me, I knew this was the right thing for me to practice what His Holiness has taught. I knew this is what I wanted for the rest of my life. I hope so much I can collect the people, resources and situations to bring these teachings and other teachings to thousands around the world in the near future. I might be throwing stones at the target in the dark because I am not qualified, but I have the passion to share what I know from my heart sincerely.
Please remember, all of us didn’t come across the dharma by accident, we created the causes. So let’s use this life to destroy as much attachments and it’s imprints as possible. Not to increase what is empty of real meaning. I fold my hands to the incomparable Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Pabongka, Trijang and Zong Lama beings. They appear as flesh and blood people, but in actual reality have gone to bliss aeons ago. May we never be far from Nagarjuna’s view and the presence of these great beings life after life until our own liberation.
With folded hands and tears streaming,
    Tsem Rinpoche

Dear all, every week I am informed of a death and to offer prayers. This week I was informed of four deaths. With death, everything is almost final and if we didn’t do dharma genuinely, we would have regrets. Death is such a omnipresent and frightening stalker. Realize it will come for you one day soon and go all the way with dharma, dharma practice, dharma work and gain realizations. At death, the dharma you have is the only hope. Anything else acquired in life is a total waste of time. Please realize and wake up. Don’t procrastinate and keep yourself ‘busy’ with activities that are empty at the time of death. Our minds will continue at death and what supports that journey is our good merits and attainments collected during our lives. Tsem Rinpoche

We have done Mama Mooi Lan’s funeral last night. She was 62 and passed of heart failure. Then we had to perform baby Tashi’s funeral a few hours later… Mama Mooi Lan was cremated this morning and baby Tashi was just cremated short while ago.. We did powerful pujas at the funeral home for Mama Mooi Lan and Baby Tash before cremationi. I am so proud our Kecharians went all the way to serve the persons that have passed away and their families without any sleep at all. Needless to say the families were so in shock and pain.We had to be there for them. I had to be there for them. I gave them dharma methods to collect further merits for their loved ones who have passed away. I was humbled and honoured to perform their funerals and do prayers for their posiitive rebirths. Dear Rinpoche, Bryan and I do so much less than what Rinpoche does. When people are asleep Rinpoche's working, when people are awake Rinpoche's working. Not many people in Kechara realize that Rinpoche works the hardest in the entire organization. I didn't know before joining Ladrang. Although Rinpoche may want to go around to pray for people in need, one day I want to able to do this instead of Rinpoche. It is quite taxing and Rinpoche can't be going out of Haven 24 hours to pray for the dying/dead. I'm happy Pastor Yek Yee and Pastor Susan wanted to come today, they really are awesome Pastors. Thank you, Jean Mei

Dear TR,  We have just collected Tashi's ashes. Our Nirvana agent who named May is a very nice lady, she is in her 40+, she is a Buddhist and a Mandarin speaker. She follow us thru out the whole session. May also bought us drinks and settle everything for us.  I have share with her about KH, TR and some other departments we have in Kechara. She is interested in KH. I will arrange with her to come and visit KH and various departments soon. The couple is sending us back home and we will go and get a stupa for Tashi's ashes. Have asked them to go back and rest after this. From Bryan

Dear Rinpoche, The casket has been filled with baby Tashi and baby items that Rinpoche bought for him. We did prayers before he left to be cremated. Thank you, Jean Mei (This morning at the funeral for baby Tashi, we bought baby items to be placed into his casket and cremated together. We wanted Tashi to have the baby items with him to let him know we care. His body is strewn with blessed rose petals. Tsem Rinpoche)

Dear all,  It's 9:30 AM. I just walked into the house after being in the hospital and then going to finish a funeral for a baby of a student. I have just conducted two funerals in the last 24 hours. The second funeral was for a baby. I had Jean Mei, Bryan, Seng Piow, Pastor Susan, Pastor Yekyee, Lew with me. Pastor Susan and Yekyee really wanted to come and learn. I am glad they made the effort.  We conducted a simple funeral by reciting holy verses, sprinkling holy water onto the baby, protector rice and scattered blessed fresh rose petals all over the baby. Afterwards I had a nice conversation about the baby's mind taking rebirth. Upon leaving the father and father's mother gave me a very warm hug of thanks and support during this most saddest of times for them...and the wife was happy and looked visibly relieved. She let go alot and let go of her guilt after we talked.. I have sent Bryan and Jean Mei with the family to cremate the baby this morning at 11AM It will take two hours and then we can bring the ashes home. Part of the ashes will be in a large stupa. All of us are extremely exhausted but did very good work. That is what Kechara is about. I am very happy we can help the baby and family along their way. When they called, they sounded extremely desperate as it was very late with no one to help them. We were very honoured to help them. I didn't call Pastor Yekyee and Pastor Susan heard, they immediately wanted to join me. Now with no sleep after baby Tashi's funeral, they went to Kechara to give dharma classes. I am proud of them and my assistants who wanted to help all last night until this morning. It is wonderful to give it all we can for others. That is what Kechara is about. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,

I have received some update from Gaden regarding Justin Ripley's ashes.

Monastery have done a whole day of Vajrayogini Daju and Ruchok this Sunday, this is for Rinpoche's previous life and current life students who passed away recently: Geshe Ngawang and Justin Ripley.

Monastery is now in the middle making Tsa Tsa out from Geshe Ngawang's ashes. After they finish, monastery start to make Tsa Tsa out from Justin's ashes.

Monastery will use Justin's ashes and make a few different type of Tsa Tsa:

1) Chenrezig, Manjushri and Vajrapani Tsa Tsa

2) White Tara, Amitayus and Nagyalma Tsa Tsa

3) small stupa Tsa Tsa

I have asked monastery to mail us few Tsa Tsa after finish, this will be place inside KFR big VY stupa.

Thanks
Bryan (Justin Ripley's ashes has been made into holy Buddha tsatsas {as in picture} to gain more merits for him). We love Justin.

When we trust, practice and go all the way with the tantric path of Vajra Yogini, we have nothing to worry about. All the worries both worldly and spiritual will be solved. We should surrender to Vajra Yogini's blessing by being our best. We just set up this wonderful statue of Buddha Vajra Yogini in our library area. How beautiful She is. Buddha Vajra Yogini is special deity for those overwhelmed by laziness, miserliness and want easy practice but big results. May all of you be blessed to see Her holy image. Kechara Discovery Dept of our orgazination does such wonderful images available for the public. I am very happy as She is beautiful. Thank You Kechara Discovery! Tsem Rinpoche

When I first arrived in Malaysia in 1992 I had a group of people who would sponsor my tickets, stay and for many years sponsor much needed help in Gaden. One of them was Ms Mooi Lan who lives in Cheras. She has been a great supporter for the last 20 years and in the past sponsor. I recieved very sad news she passed away this morning at 4Am. I request all my students to please light a candle for her to take good rebirth and come across the dharma again. Offer the candle to Buddha Dukkar..that is the Buddha I assigned to her many years ago and she diligently practiced and set up a shrine to Dukkar.. I will miss her and never forget her kindness. Many of the things I wanted to do in the past she generously helped. Tsem Rinpoche ( see here http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=4354 )

Heruka! We say we want to improve yet we don't hold our vows. We promise to keep our samaya, yet our promise to our earlier promises laxed. We want to experience only good results yet we hold onto our face. We want wealth, yet we give nothing. We want success, yet we offer tiny offerings to the Three Jewels. We say we have great faith in our Guru, yet when his assignments are difficult we run. We say we want a good rebirth yet all our actions are motivated by self gain. Heruka, Heruka, Heruka, how are we to recieve your blessings when our three doors are closed tightly by selfishness, ignorance and anger?~Tsem Rinpoche

I haven't lived in Gaden since 1992 when I was sent to Malaysia. I love Gaden and loved so much living there. I like so many things about Gaden. Conversations would not be lonely and easy. Whatever I talk about the monks immediately understand. I do not have to face 'opposition' , doubts, hundreds of questions, and every detail simple about the dharma or dharma work has to be explained. I miss that so much. I am not lonely for company, but I am lonely for familiarity very much. I was very content, at peace and in my element in Gaden. I never knew or imagined I would have to go to Malaysia, stay and take on heavy responsibilities. I am not complaining but I love Gaden, the monks, my teachers, the great masters, the senior monks whom I have many friends. I miss them so much. So so much. I love and respect the great old monks, Rinpoches and spectacular Geshes. Gaden was a city of practitioners and I was home. Lord Tsongkapa's presence pervades the whole Gaden. TR

Dear all, I gave a talk on desire to a few inclusive of Paris and David. I asked David and Paris to write up the talk on their blogs. My plan was after they write it, I'll link it to my blog. From my blog people will click to their blog to read the write up and benefit many who read the talk. Paris did a very good write up and did not miss the subtle points I was expressing that night. She really took the time and effort to write it...I was happy to see she wrote exaclty as I expressed. Effort pays off usually or eventually. I am happy to see there are 669 views (43 comments) already going back to Paris' blog to read the teachings. The teachings will be benfit many. Must save and read again and again. Must share with others...Must contemplate. You want dharma, I am giving it to you and Paris wrote it out perfectly. Bryan gave me an incredible MOTHER'S DAY GIFT. It is so auspicious. He had someone draw HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche's sacred face onto the body of Buddha Vajradharma. Buddha Vajradharma is the form Buddha takes to teach the immaculate and fautless tantra of Vajra Yogini. In Vajra Yogini's tantra and meditations, you must visualize your guru in the form of Vajradharma to make offerings both inner, outer & secret offerings daily to one's tantric guru & to meditate on Him in that form. It is very integral part of the practice. If you do the meditations well on your guru in this particular form during the practice of the sadhana..you can gain tremendous realizations and control over one's mind to leave the body when you want. So getting this picture today was an omen if Kecharians fulfill their responsibilities, then Vajra Yogini's practice will spread in this region. Very good omen. I feel this strongly. Bryan really planned out this gift & surprised me!! I will put in Chamang Ladrang in the future. THANK YOU BRYAN!!TR

Back in New Jersey over 30 years ago, there lived a lady down the street who was also a student of my teacher. Her name is Carmen (she is a nun now and her ordination name is: Ani Thupten). She had a nice size library of books and many dharma books. I loved the Dharma books!! I would spend so much time browsing and getting snippets of each book from Carmen. I use to ride by bike down to chat with her and borrow her books and it took me like 5 mins by bike..She lived on the same street. I would read dharma books voraciously and write down my questions. I would call Carmen almost daily for years to ask her to clarify the readings I had questions on. She would spend hours on a phone with me answering questions never once losing patience. I learned so much from her. She had vast dharma knowledge, very devoted to our teacher and would do her meditations and extensive sadhanas daily. She would join in all the dharma classes and pujas at our nearby Kalmuck Buddhist Temple. She was such a good dharma friend and I enjoyed her company very much. I wanted to be like her to have the freedom to study and practice dharma. When I recievd my first initiation by our teacher at the temple, Carmen sat right next to me on the front row. Thrilling!! After initiation we would have ten days of explanations (commentary) from our teacher His Eminence Kensur Losang Tharchin Rinpoche. I was so excited and deeply happy to get commentary from our great and knowledgable teacher. What I did not understand, I would of course consult Carmen who is much more advanced and taught me patiently after each day’s teachings. Around 15 years ago Carmen came to India and I travelled with her to holy Bodhgaya, Varanasi and Dharamsala. I escorted her to these places. Since then I have not met up with her. But I know she is fine. Around two years back I sent her a three foot Vajra Yogini statue as a gift from me. Carmen received the statue and was very happy. It was my offering to her for so much kindness shown me when I was a child. I wish so much she can visit Malaysia. She would be happy. We all want to be a part of something big and with good results. But the only way we can be a part of that is if we work hard together with the other members of our Kechara. The time will pass. It can pass with you taking on difficulties or it can pass with you doing nothing. I feel it's better to work hard now and enjoy later than to enjoy nothing now and then end up nowhere later. Prayers and dedications are ok, but hard work must be part of the prayer. Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness the Dalai Lama seated here with His sacred mother. A mother who gives birth to great beings like Shakyamuni, Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, Trijang Rinpoche, etc must be a Buddha Herself, a highly realized Dakini, a powerful practitioner, or a lady who made prayers in previous lives to provide others with great dharma in one way or another. A lady of great spiritual merit or virtue.. I wanted to share this photo with you because if I ever met His Holiness' mother, I would prostrate to Her immediately. Beautiful picture. His Holiness is not ordinary for sure and neither could a being who gave birth to Him. Tibetans always said she was very saintly, gentle, simple and deeply spiritual. During Her lifetime many went to recieve Her blessings..Tsem Rinpoche

It's very revealing how when you give, offer and have something for them, they crowd around smiling, happy and easy. The minute you ask them to give something, contribute or really help out, they totally disappear. Handphones shut. No replies. No sound. As if you they never knew you. People like that make themselves 2nd rate, find 1st rate people to work with and move on. Recently I encountered some students like that!~ Tsem Rinpoche

Last night between 300-400 persons congregated at Kechara while I gave a talk to them on 'making a choice' and 'the power and purpose of stupas'. The talk has been taped and will be blogged once tape is ready. The talk was two hours and it flowed well for me although I had very little sleep. Towards the end of the talk I gave refuge vows to 100 new persons from different countries for this. When everything was done, I met up with a group of 15 and 5 from Shanghai. Had a nice dharma talk with them on how to make a centre grow and harmony. Passed out nice dharma gifts to all the visitors so they don't go home empty handed. Also seperately met some directors and movie producers that attended the talk and sought private time with me..these producers and directors are very well known locally. One is from Hong Hong. Got home around 5Am and saw so many gifts from people. Did a Manjushri dedication for all the people who offered gifts to me on Wesak day in gratitude. Also some people from Europe called in to Kechara to arrange flowers to be given to me last night. That was very sweet. I have so many flowers now..over 70 bouquets I would...guess. They have all been offered up on the shrine. Thank you. TR (May 5, 2012)

Karma exists and created constantly by our actions. Karma created in the past is fertile and will open up when the situation arises. Some people have asked me some very important questions on tantra and Vajra Yogini in facebook. I answer them. Answers you really need to know before doing higher and advanced practices..better to be prepared ahead of time. Good to know how to prepare: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=30233

This is the holy tsatsa of Namgyalma Buddha made by Lord Atisha as part of His daily practice. He engaged in making Buddha images by way of Tsatsas everyday to purify karma. TR

To even see this is a great blessing: This is the personal stupa Atisha carried around with Him wherever he went. He made offerings to this stupa and the holy contents daily. TR

Rinpoche, The movie group just before going to get the pants scared off them!  I have explained that it is Rinpoche's way of saying thank you to them for always working so hard for Ladrang. They were very happy to go in, even big chicken Carmen Koo! I've bought an extra popcorn set for Levi, and will drop it off in haven for her. Thank you, Jean Ai (seeing the move "The Cabin in the Woods")

If we always do not understand Dharma, then that is a sign of not studying. If we always blame Dharma, it is a sign we do not know what dharma really is. If we always expect of the Dharma, then we are using Dharma in ineffective methods. If we find Dharma difficult, then it is because we are unwilling to accept it. If we give up the Dharma, we are get deeper into our sufferings without respite. If we complain about Dharma it is a sign we are looking for blame in the wrong places and not within ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,
SO FANTASTIC! Me staring at rainbow. Love dm
****(April 22, 2012-Sunday-Kechara is very lucky. Many times when we are about to embark on something really beneficial or just finished something very good, we will often times witness a rainbow and there is no rain or clouds.Today again at KECHARA FOREST RETREAT after they finished their work in the evening another clear rainbow appeared in the clear sky reported to me by Datuk May and ten other Kecharians volunteering there today. See the beautiful picture of the rainbow...TR)

I prostrate to my Guru the consummate Lojong master who teaches us how to laugh at death by creating right causes n how to regret n cry at death by doing stupid things. Exciting indeed that we can do either.
I rather die w natural smile than a fake one made up by the embalmers.
Thank you for reminding we hv choice.
Gratefully yours

Death is exciting. It's when all the thìngs we did COME BACK TO US. And we can't sweet talk or seduce our way out. We have to face what we have done. Very exciting to see what's going to happen to us! Hello death, give me what I deserve!! Tsem Rinpoche
