A Panda Seeking Solace After the Quake
A frightened panda in Japan seeking solace after the horrible quake from a man…all beings suffer the same…brings tears to my eyes..so many beings suffering….May all of them recover and the ones passed take a good rebirth….
Some pictures of the after quake effects….Our sympathies and prayers go out to everyone and every being in the affected areas in Japan.

Thank you rinpoche, that is a very moving image of the panda. I’m loss for words actually.
I love animals. Shame!!! Poor animals. Feel more for animals because n person can rely on them and they give lots of love.
can’t imagine the torment of how those people and animals who are stranded, lost, stuck somewhere in some building, not capable of reaching out for help and comfort went through/going through…
This picture of the Panda paints such a vivid emotional state of fear
so much sufferings…
Glad to see the many bags of items flown in for the victims.
so SAD
SAD
From creatures great and small, we are all just as fragile and vulnerable. The Panda picture paints a thousand words and stirs an ocean of feelings.
May all beings have happiness and the causes of happiness
May all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering
May all beings be have happiness that is free from suffering
May all beings abide in equanimity, free of anger, hatred, attachment, aversion and prejudice
May it truly be just so for all sentient beings
OM MANI PADME HUNG
May all of them recover and the ones passed take a good rebirth….

This is a most heart rending picture and story. We are doing mantra around our stupas for Japan and it’s sentient beings.
I”m so sad to see so sadness all around as this tsunami in Japan. I’m sorry about the humans beings and the pandas and other animals too. If God is Hearing and Seeing the World and us by now I’ll beg to God save the earth and treat body, mind and soul of all of the sencient beeings and since now I say Thanks God that still exists Love,Kindness and Compassion .OM MANI PEME HUNG HRI .
this picture speaks a thousand words, life is fragile and things happen in a split second without us getting prepare for what coming. it shows not only human knows fear and suffering, but animal are also the same, the panda is the perfect example. Treats every sentient being with respect because they have feeling too.
My prayers to the people and victim of tsunami. OM MANI PADME HUNG
The picture of the panda brought tears to my eyes, the animals don’t understand what’s going on, they are so vulnerable!!!
The picture of the panda is heart rending. We can see that animals suffer and feel pain and fear the same as human being. Understanding this we will never be able to hurt another animal.
When disaster strikes, it does not discriminate.Death does not discriminate. Pain, Suffering and the Feelings of loss…they do not discriminate. The picture is a heart rending one but one that is a good reminder that we are all temporary citizens on this earth and we share the same fate, regardless of how we have organised ourselves into species, race and nations. Somehow, in the way we have organized ourselves, we have convinced ourselves to feel somewhat detacked from other’s problems.
It may be a folly for us to think, in the comfort and safety of our homes, that we may not also feel the ripple effect. Everything is connected.
If we remove borders and names of countries, we should NOT say that Japan is in trouble but we should instead say that one significant part of OUR WORLD, is going through not one, but in fact 3 disasters: the earth quake, the tsunami and now the nuclear-leak threat (regardless of the actual severity, it is no less worying) and even after it recovers from all these, it will still have to face the economic and financial aftermath. I think we will feel that effect all over the world.
A panda seeking solace and finding it in a human being. I wish we see more of this situations under better circumstances.
Thank you Rinpoche for continuously reminding us that animals is capable of love, fear, and compassion just like human beings.
Warm regards
Valentina
Animals suffer pain and fear like humans too. Realizing this we should not harm or hurt animals…they have feelings too.
Thank you, Rinpoche, for teaching us to be compassionate through this post.
The Panda is such a fragile animal like a baby. Ordinarily when there is a thunder storm and lightning strikes a baby will cry frantically looking for his/her mother or something to cling to feel safe. What more a little Panda caught in the aftermath of a big Earth Quake and was standing alone. The Panda is like a baby who felt safe after clinging on to the legs of the man. I remember I had an experience when I was caught in a Civil war years ago where there was fighting and burning of houses and I was caught and can’t get out. I remembered I was so frightened I peed in my pants. If an adult human being can feel fear what more a small harmless animal who can’t even talk or tell you that they are frightened.
Really inconceivable! How terrifying for the humans, animals, families there and afar.
Nicholas is in Hongkong and I worry about him, about the possibility of radiation being blown there should the reactors not be contained.
I cannot imagine the torment, the fear, the worry and suffering they must be feeling and going through.I don’t think anyone one of us really know the true feeling unless we are experiencing it personally. I pray that no one here or anywhere in the world need to ever experience it.
Please please all pray for those suffering, frightened where ever they are.
May the torment end and may the situation improve for all.
Om mani padme hung
This is a grim reminder that we have totally no control over our existence. What hope do we have in this “world” for happiness? Rich or poor, animal or human we all suffer just the same. As disaster strikes in a split second without warning, all we can do is be tossed about or look on helplessly. Knowing this, we still hang on to this world and the things that perpetuate our suffering. This is an extreme wake up call.
This is a very unfortunate disaster and I dedicate my merits to those who were killed by the earthquake and who have suffered from it.
I would like to point out something interesting I noticed today. I have a Kechara 10th Anniversary Calendar 2011 sitting on my table and it is showing the month of March. Each month has its own Dharma quote/advice. The quote for March is:
“Anger is quick and it passes but its effects are worse than EARTHQUAKES and its after-effects stay. Why create earthquakes when there are none?”
I’d like to note that the word EARTHQUAKE was printed the largest and bolded. It’s really huge. You can read the word “Earthquake” from a mile away. The earthquake struck Japan on March 11.
Who else noticed this? Am I thinking too much? I wonder who came up with the quotes.
Dear TL, I came up with all the quotes. Tsem Rinpoche
I saw the Kechara Calender during my stay 7-14 Mar and was the backside of the Calender the signifance of Anger and Earthquake. As the news of the Earthquake in Japan. Is it a coincidence or a prediction. Life is so vulnerable and what is “yes” today can be “no” tomorrow. Each day I recite “OM MANI PADME HUNG” and dedicate the merits to those who suffered during this earth quake and tsunami, may they fine peace and comfort, be allevate from their physical and mental sufferings. For those who lost their lives may be in Chenregiz Pure Land. May the rescuser be free of suffering and never be parted from happiness and also be bless with good health.
In this blog, we can see a frightened panda clinging tightly to the man’s legs for dear life, after experiencing the super devastating and deadly earthquake hitting Japan on 12 Mar,2011, leaving trails of destruction and thousands of dead. Before such shock could be stabilised, another 6.8magnitude earthquake surfaced at Yangon, Myanmar to tremble the World again less than 2 weeks later. Yes, of course a picture speaks louder than a thousand words – animals also have feelings too, with a good sense of fear, prefer happiness and peaceful living as much as humans do, but certainly not sufferings and death, except that they could not speak up. In this case, our over-frightened poor panda has intelligently acted out its fear, which has moved many of us to tears. But, how many of us who have also seen pigs, cattle, chickens, goats and many other animals being slaughtered…….. or drowned in their own blood, squealing, mooing and screaming out frantically in pain, yet could still continue to enjoy eating their flesh and meat tastfully! It is said that our actions in this life determine the course of our future life. Therefore please consider this far-reaching of consequences of your action, and please go VEGETARIAN to save lives. This will confidentally determine the course of your future life, as you comply with the endless compassionate appeals made by our kind Rinpoche for our meritorious benefit.
This panda picture was taken in China in 2006. Metaphorically, I’m sure it is an accurate representation of what many were feeling when an earthquake struck Japan. However, this photo is deceptive.
