Malaysia’s Vegetarian Health Minister Wins Peta Award
Malaysia’s Vegetarian Health Minister Wins PETA Award Malaysian Minister of Health, Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, has won People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia-Pacific’s Proggy Award for Promoting a Vegetarian Diet. Congrats! “Proggy” stands for “progress” and PETA’s annual award recognises animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture. This is what Liow had to say, “I’m concerned about the health of the people in the country, especially with regard to the healthy lifestyle”. Liow holds a degree in science and nutrition from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a masters in business administration from Universiti Malaya. PETA Director Jason Baker congratulated Liow by saying, “Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai is promoting healthy living, and we commend him for leading by example”, adding that, “Going vegetarian is the best thing you can do for your health, animals and the Earth.” Vegetarianism is certainly good for the environment and for your health, according to a 2006 UN study. According to the report, raising animals for food generates more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, ships and planes in the world combined. The report also states that the meat industry is “one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global”. How lovely!
It’s great that our Health Minister is vegetarian – and recognised for it by PETA. He walks the talk!
Kechara Oasis’ new menu is very tasty – I was there for lunch over the past couple of days as I was interviewing Irene Lim, a long time student of Rinpoche, about a trip she made to Tibet to do research on Rinpoche’s previous life monastery and Rinpoche’s genealogy. It’s a fascinating story!
Anyway, back to KO – you must try the mushroom risotto – it was very nice! And they have a new lemongrass drink with pandan which is good too. I must find time to go back there again soon!
I thought only Medical Doctors would be Health Ministers. In previous elections Dr Chua Soi Lek and Dr Chua Jui Meng had been health ministers. But this time with Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai as Health Minister he really takes care of the Health of people by encouraging people not to eat meat but go on Vegetarian for their health. Dato’ Liow himself looks a healthy person and I don’t see why people will not follow his example. He has gone to Kechara Oasis for vegetarian dinner. This makes Rinpoche’s work more easier as Rinpoche is trying very hard to promote vegetarian and non killing. And also at the same time promoting Kechara Oasis. Kechara’s name is becoming very popular now with Dato’ Liow coming to KO for dinner.
I think that this is really cool as it shows that some Malaysians really like vegetarianism and it is also good for Kechara Oasis. I hope that many more will become a vegetarian if not then at least cut down on meat. Once again, this is awesome.
I posted this on youtube & embedded it on my blog to create awareness. Youtube banned the video with a COMMUNITY GUIDELINES WARNING saying it is too graphic and shocking and breaks their rules. If I get three warnings they block all my videos. I appealed saying, I didn’t post to shock or be gory BUT TO CREATE AWARENESS……. THEY REJECTED THE APPEAL.
I couldn’t believe how they do not want to help such a good cause and help create awareness of this horrible dog meat trade. I appeal to everyone to please have this video tweeted and facebooked everywhere to create awareness. I was very sad to see what is happening to the dogs and VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH YOUTUBE. Please help the dogs I beg you.

People For Ethical Treatment of Animals-(PETA) Asia-Pacific’s proggy Award for promoting a vegeterian Diet was bestowed on Malaysia Health Minister, Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai. PETA Annual Award recognises animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture. Dato Sri Liow’s act of Leadership by example is indeed a very commendable one, and also an inspiration for those progressive thinkers for a green earth environment. Of course as a responsible minister of health for a beautiful country like Malaysia, Dato Sri Liow’s primarily concern is undoubtedly towards generating a healthy populaion for the nation, especially with regards towards a healthy life-style – and a vegetarian diet would be a most appropiate one to start off. Dato Sri’s powerful advocacy of a healthy diet in vegeterianism not only help towards the promotion of animal liberisation but indirectly also helping to save and prolong animals lives. Perhaps Dato Sri’s presence at the Award giving ceremony creates the right opporturnity for Malaysia to consider establishing an animal Sanctuary/Refuge to save and stop animals abuses and cruelty in the streets, homes, animal stockyard farms and slaughter houses in the country. Heartiest Congratulations to Dato Sri Liow for winning this meritorious Annual Award for MALAYSIA.
By Health Minister Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai having dinner at our KH vegetarian restaurant Kechara Oasis. We are confident that the vegetarian Kechara Oasis or KO serve are of high quality if it can be passed and recognised by the Ministry of Health. This has made Rinpoche’s wish to make people take vegetarian and to stop the killing of animals for meat as well as for the people to be health conscious. At the same time Kechara Oasis will have more business to generate funds to help an do charities for the less fortunate. People will be impressed with KO when they see the Minister of Health patronising KO and then think KO must be good. As KO will be opening more branches it will be easier to get things done in tne future. Anyway Congratulations to you Irene for winning an Award for Kechara Oasis.
