My Medical Status

Recently I received treatments from Dr. Jiang and he gave the prognosis below.

(Translation  to English)

Today I checked Rinpoche’s right abdomen next to the belly button. When I pressed, there was sharp pain; I pressed again and the pain was found to be connected with the liver. The basic diagnosis is swelling of the liver.

There are two possibilities: first is fatty liver, which is not a big problem. The second possibility is hardening of the liver, which is extremely serious, it may turn malignant.

Under normal circumstances, hardening of the liver is a preliminary to liver cancer, but hardening of the liver alone can also be fatal. If maintained well, lifespan can be extended by 20-30 years; if not maintained well, it will turn malignant in 2-3 years. Once it turns malignant, the pain of the patient is one of the most painful among all diseases. Even if it doesn’t turn malignant, it may also turn into liver-abdomen-fluid – the mortality rate of this is also very high.

From the pain of pressing Rinpoche’s abdomen, it does not look like fatty liver. Rinpoche is still feeling a lot of pain now, and it is not a pain which normal people can endure.

An Update from the Ladrang

Dear friends,

I’m sending this update from the Ladrang to share with you re Rinpoche’s health condition. I’ve spoken to Dr. Jiang today and he has some recommendations for Rinpoche’s health, in view of the inflammation & swelling of the liver and also the possibility of liver cirrhosis & hardening of liver.

1. BACKGROUND
Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver. A liver with too much scar tissue cannot work properly to make protein, help fight infections, clean the blood, help digest food and store energy.

Early treatment can control symptoms and keep cirrhosis from getting worse, but there is no way to “heal”/reverse the hardened/ scarred tissue, only to preserve the healthy tissue. In the early stages, cirrhosis causes the liver to swell. Then, as more scar tissue replaces healthy tissue, the liver shrinks. A number of people with cirrhosis also get liver cancer.

2. PRIMARY TREATMENT

The primary treatment recommended by Dr. Jiang is Chinese medicine (herbs), which he said is the most effective in relation to Rinpoche’s current condition.

In a layman’s “summary”, healing would consist of:
– 60% Chinese medicine
– 20% Emotion (less stressful, more relaxed lifestyle) & acupuncture
– 20% Diet

3. DIET
Dr Jiang mentioned that diet is secondary and compliments primary treatment of Chinese medicine, which should be priority.

These 2 items will aid healing:

a) Seaweed/ kelp
- Taken 2 to 3 times a week
– Helps to reduce inflammation and soften the liver

b) Soy based products: soya milk, bean curd, natto (Japanese fermented soy beans), tempeh
– Taken 3 to 4 times a week
– Helps to increase circulation, detox & reduce inflammation
*Rinpoche experienced gout in the past when Rinpoche was on a bean-based diet. We will consult Dr. Jiang to see if there is alternative to soy, or how to prevent gout

Additionally, celery and white radish are good for circulation. Do not consume too much white radish or it will cause discharge of chi, hence it is recommended to take only twice a week.

James, Seng Piow and I will have a more comprehensive discussion with Dr. Jiang re Rinpoche’s diet tomorrow.

4. CONCLUSION
Rinpoche’s health is deteriorating fast. A few weeks ago, Rinpoche has given a teaching, and Rinpoche has told us to be prepared as his time is very short.  This is now confirmed with Dr. Jiang’s diagnosis/advice.

Rinpoche has only 1 to 3 years to live. If we take good care of Rinpoche’s health, life span may be prolonged. However, if the situation worsens and develops into cancer, it can be as little as 1 year left.

Also, Dr. Jiang mentioned that the possibility of Rinpoche’s condition to be healed is only between 40%-50%.

In view of how serious Rinpoche’s health has degenerated, I would like to stress the importance of inner “puja” (mind transformation, for example: to go all the way for Dharma, let go off our attachments) that constitutes 70% of the cause to extend Rinpoche’s life span, while the other 30% is outer puja (long life puja) to support. If this is done, then Rinpoche’s treatment will be effective.

Thank you.

Shin Tan
Tsem Ladrang

Official letter to Tsem Ladrang regarding the health condition of H.E.Tsem Tulku Rinpoche
    Dear Rinpoche,
With all respect to the traditional medicines, what dr. Jiang is saying IS NOT a legitimate diagnosis or prognosis in western medical terms and that’s why IT IS NOT enough to determine the exact and necessary treatment of Rinpoche. What is clear is that Rinpoche has a problem with his liver OR gall bladder and this must be addressed with official medicine to determine the exact credible diagnosis. Without proper diagnosis THERE COULD NOT BE ANY PROGNOSIS !
    Regarding the diagnosis You must:
1.Do a real medical check up with a compulsory ultrasound scan of your liver, gall bladder and the spleen must be checked also !!!
2.Make clinical analysis of your blood for(blood analysis):
“Must” tests include: (GOT; ASAT), (GPT; ALAT ), GT (GGT), ( Alkaline Phosphatase ), (Acide Phosphatase), CRP (C-reactive protein), HbsAg, anti-HCV
Cholesterol Profile: Total Cholesterol, HDL-Cholesterol, LDL-Cholesterol, Triglycerides,
WITHOUT THIS TESTS you can’t make ANY credible diagnosis!!!
There are many people who don’t like Rinpoche so if the diagnosis is not clear I would also recommend a full toxicological analysis.
    With my best regards,
    Martin Bosnev (Physiotherapist)

    • Wendyyyho on Oct 28, 2011 at 3:58 am

      Dear Martin,

Dr Jiang is a qualified Chinese medical doctor who has been practising for about 20 years. He has treated Rinpoche and many people in Kechara with positive results. Rinpoche used to suffer severe migraines in the past and since Dr Jiang’s treatment, Rinpoche’s migraine has reduced by 80%. Results speak for itself. I myself have personally been treated by Dr Jiang and I must say all the treatments he has given me had positive results.

You do not know Dr Jiang at all and you have not personally experienced his treatment. On what basis are you saying that Dr Jiang’s diagnosis is not legitimate? Just because it does not use the methods of western medicine, does it make Chinese medicine any less effective? From track record, Chinese medical doctors have healed many illnesses where western medicine has failed. Your comment on Dr Jiang’s diagnosis is without valid basis.

As for your recommendation that Rinpoche take a toxicology analysis, I think it is absolutely unnecessary as Rinpoche is served and well protected by students who completely loyal to him. This you can be rest assured.

migranes live in the mind only
the owner of the migrane has the answer not the doctor

      • Loki on Nov 16, 2011 at 7:14 pm

It hardly matters–if only the Chinese doctor can see the disease, then it’s not very likely to exist, is it? In all probability, after three years, everybody’s favorite drama queen will still be here throwing bitch-fits. (Remember, you heard it here first.)

    • Dana Lloyd Thomas on Nov 1, 2011 at 2:57 am

Dear Martin, the sincere concern you express is probably shared by others. But perhaps a highly advanced practitioner like Rinpoche can understand what he should and should not do… While this is not the place for a debate about Western vs. Traditional medical treatment (Traditional Chinese Medicine has been officially recognised by the World Health Organisation for many years) I can confirm that there have been excellent results for serious liver condition, backed by clinical analysis, acheived thanks to Tibetan and Chinese Traditional Medicine.
Best regards to Rinpoche and to all friends of Kechara.

i think it is most important now for the sangha to quickly get together and do purification ceremonies to amend their samaya with the Guru and to purify all broken samayas and disharmony among themselves. Please also seek advice from other great masters as to what kind of prayers to perform for the Guru. Most importantly, sangha should fulfill the wishes of Guru and maintain harmony.

  6. Rita on Oct 24, 2011 at 9:29 pm

    Dear Team
Following Rinpoches blog for a certain time, I have been very grateful for the wealth of information and inputs that came trough this information. Myself, working in the field of energy healing and searched for many years for means to create good foundations to be healthy, here my urgent advice, that might help to give good care: Dr. Andreas Moritz is a well known health practitioner advicing the very benefits of the Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush, see following link of website:
    http://www.ener-chi.com/index.htm
The experience and information of Dr. Moritz are very precious and vast collection of most useful information on all aspects of health. One of the key elements is to reestablish a sound working metabolism, through a repeated series of these Liver Flushes. There is a very explicit little book describing how it works. And remain at your disposal for any further information.
I wish the very best for Rinpoche and the whole Team for as much support and care as all possible.
    With much love, Rita

I do not want that you suffer, and I want that you heal. Please take care, we need you!

  10. Martin Bosnev on Oct 25, 2011 at 12:43 am

P.S.dear Shin Tan it is crucial that a medical doctor defines the exact reason behind the Rinpoche’s condition because if it is hepatitis or poisoning it can be cured fully with western medicine!!!

that is my last note on the topic.

    Thank you

    This is really terrible news.

I agree with Martin that there should be a full analysis and different opinions.

The time is now to either 1) pretend and look the other way, feel sorry, or 2) to act. I will quit drinking for at least 1 month and double dharma study for Rinpoche’s health.

    • James Long on Oct 28, 2011 at 5:32 pm

      Dear Steve,

It is very nice of you to do more Dharma to dedicate to Rinpoche’s health, our transformation will extend Rinpoche’s life as there is a purpose for him to stay.

Dr Jiang is a qualified TCM doctor. Rinpoche used to have very bad migraine constantly for many years and been taking many Western medicine to control it but still does not help much, but after getting treatment from Dr Jiang with Chinese accupunture and herbs, Rinpoche’s migraine getting less and rarely Rinpoche has migraine.

I personally getting treatment from Dr jiang as well, I would say my health become better and I do not need to rely on pills so much anymore which in long run is good news.

I wish you all the best and let’s support each other to grow in Dharma.

      Much care

      • Steve Tobias on Oct 30, 2011 at 8:51 am

Thank you, James. I’m glad to hear how effective Dr. Jiang’s treatments are. I did not intend to criticize Chinese medicine, of course. It would be pretty awkward for a white American who practices Tibetan Buddhism and meditation, instead of taking pills, to think Western medicine has all the answers haha : )

        Take care

    Dearest Rinpoche

I don’t know what to say, so sad from my side to possibly be losing my Guru so soon, so sad from Rinpoches side for the pain, both physical and of not seeing all your plans and students realise their potential.

I ask that Rinpoche gets checked out by a liver specialist too, much can be done if things are caught early enough. I mean no disrespect to Dr. Jiang.

Mostly i want Rinpoche to be happy and not suffer.

    With tears in my eyes,

    John

  16. Emilio Lopue, Jr. on Oct 25, 2011 at 8:30 am

Rinpoche, please allow me to take in all the sufferings and all the pains you are suffering now and will be suffering in the future. May you experience NO pain at all. Please live long for the Dharma.

  17. Kelvin Yong on Oct 25, 2011 at 9:10 am

Rinpoche, we have much to learn from you on top of what you have already taught us. We are all requesting you to stay and spread Dharma in a even more extensive way.
We will act fast and swift for KWPC to manifest thus prolonging your precious precious life.
May we all share your pains in your abdomen and hope that helps even a little bit.

  18. Chris on Oct 25, 2011 at 12:25 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

This is from someone who never met you but who benefited greatly from the teachings you made available on Youtube. Dear Rinpoche, plese, please go and see a qualified Western physician. It is too early for you to demonstrate impermanence. There are thousands and thousands of people you can benefit with your teachings.

Whatever little merit I have, I dedicate it entirely to Tsem Rinpoche’s good health and long life. By the blessings of the Triple Jewels, may all Tsem Rinpoche’s life obstacles be experienced by me instead; may whatever good health I was supposed to enjoy in this life be experienced by Tsem Rinpoche instead.

  19. Jace Chong on Oct 25, 2011 at 2:00 pm

With so much pain to endure, Rinpoche was still able to come Kechara House last night, give impressive talk and ordain the 4 pastors. It’s absolutely shame for me not be able to handle a few stress. Again and again, Rinpoche proves us that when we are doing something to benefit others, it doesnt matter how much we suffer. I sincerely thanks Rinpoche of what you teach us through your body, speech and mind.

I remember Rinpoche did a video to Lama Zopa when he was having stroke. The life of a Guru is mostly on the hand of His students. The inner puja surely have to be done as firm as possible. I really want to go for it, not only for Rinpoche long life, it’s also to benefit others as well.

With all little merits I gain every single day, I dedicate to Rinpoche long life and good health. May the real KWPC manifest very soon with everybody in Kechara has a inner KWPC in them. May the pain Rinpoche endure would get lessen by us doing more.

    Thanks Rinpoche.

  20. Lisa on Oct 25, 2011 at 2:45 pm

We all should go all the way doin our very very very best to transform ourself. ACTION should be the precise word.
We should not be sad…if we want him to have stable and good health and live longer we must TRANSFORM!!!!!!

But i still very sad to hear that!!! attachment!!!!

    • wanwaimeng on Oct 25, 2011 at 10:13 pm

@Lisa You have hit it on the nail. We all need to transform to be less selfish and give up on our selfish mind more and more.

Medicine can only do so much, of course it is essential to get the right diagnosis.

But we need more spiritual energy in the form of transformation. Transform to becoming less selfish. We need to push ourselves and do more. For some of the people overseas some have been asked to make websites of Lama Tsongkhapa or Kechara/Rinpoche related ones in various languages not to benefit Kechara and Lama only but so that other people in other countries can benefit from the teachings. I am sure some others were asked to start study groups etc etc…
Going vegetarian is also a form of giving up our selfish attachment of taste and attachment to flesh and blood for consumption.

Well Why is transformation necessary? Well if we stay the same level as we are we will not be able to get more teachings or higher teachings, hence the lama cannot teach more. If the Lama cannot teach more then he might find it more beneficial or accomplish more to be in another place or another life.

Rinpoche has been saying to us many years now, that his life is short. I do not think he will say it to distress so many of his students. Whats needed now is the inner KWPC, people must have inner transformations, and if more and more people have that inner transformation it can create the cause for KWPC to manifest.

I’ve always thought rinpoche’s message to us during the land blessing couple of years back was , never say you can’t do more or I can do it. My gf’s mum found rinpoche’s talk yesterday was about having the confidence to do dharma no matter what happens, I though that was very profound hearing that realization from her.

Time is running out, if we want to benefit many people we have to start right this moment, right NOW. If NOT NOW when?

  21. BRIAN on Oct 25, 2011 at 2:49 pm

Agree with Martin – please go to a hospital and get a second opinion western diagnosis. Your gift for communicating the Dharma should not leave this plane of existence lightly nor earlier than it should. Please Rinpoche – go see doctor. Insyallah, it might only be a kidney stone, especially if all you eat is soy. Would explain the gout too.

I am really sad to hear about Rinpoche’s health status. I would like to offer a kind of wood name Huang Niu Mu 黄牛木 / Cratoxylum cochinchinense to Rinpoche. The root of this tree is one of the important ingredient to do cancer research. I understand from Chinese Physician that this root can cure liver cancer. It is rather hard to find and by chance my husband got some of it few weeks ago.
When i read about Rinpoche’s health, it reminded me of this root which my husband just mentioned to me few weeks ago. You may ask around with some chinese physician. If Rinpoche would like to have it, I sincerely offer it from the bottom of my heart.

    God Bless My Dear Rinpoche.

  25. Roland on Oct 25, 2011 at 10:34 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

Hope you can start your fasting program to heal your body. Start with few days then increase the number of days. You have many good doctors and people around you which will help you to success in your fasting program. You know very well what fasting is for, they help remove a lot of toxin from the body. once the toxin out from body system, the organ will start to heal and take care themselves.

We know you can heal your body if you want, please try fasting program to kick start to heal your body. I know you can success in your fasting program.

Avoid sugar, they are bad. especially Coke. Watch this video of Sugar is bad. There are more video on youtube too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM

You cant start slowly with juice fasting for few days, then increase the day. Another way is to start one-day fasting during weekend. Many people try this because of their work in weekday.

    rest well and be happy.

    Take Care.

    • Martin Bosnev on Oct 26, 2011 at 12:43 am

Sugar is not bad at all because it helps the body to detox! The best form of fasting is juicing not full hunger because if it is full hunger the liver can’t work at all because is going blocked. The liver needs sugars to detox !!!

      • firefly on Oct 27, 2011 at 2:06 am

sugar helps to detox!? you got to be joking? what kind of sugar are u referring to… refined sugar?

        • P.D. on Oct 27, 2011 at 2:21 am

yes, refined sugar too! The liver cells work with the help of sugar. If there is no sugar they must start breaking proteins for energy(glucose) and this takes a lot of energy from them. In the process they produce a lot of toxins and this makes their work hard…

        • P.D. on Oct 27, 2011 at 2:25 am

  26. Springflower on Oct 25, 2011 at 11:50 pm

What a blog to put on on an auspicious day. Rinpoche has always had different view point – He said that his days are short and that it is liberating to know this.

It is a question that I can never understand – why some good people tend to have shorter life span. I may have to convince myself that that is because of the accumulations of bad karma that they have so willingly taken onto themselves from others.

Yesterday was the first time I saw Rinpoche with my own eyes, not through Youtube, not picture. I had to constantly hold my tears when I watched those videos being played – the animal liberation and the introduction of 4 pastors on the screen.

It was a even more blessed time when I saw Rinpoche coming into the hall. How blessed I am.

I cannot explain why, but I felt very touched, for the works that Kencharians have done and the dedication of Rinpoche.

I could feel through Rinpoche’s speech that he was not feeling well. The energy was not there. But still, as usual, he attended the ceremony despite his personal difficulties.

I believe that something can SURELY be done for this, through alternative medical treatment (either/both through Western or Chinese medicine), transformation and puja.

A kind hearted person SHOULD live long.

If Kecharians can share with us what are required as part of the treatment process – such as support on medical fees, search for special medicines – I believe that with the wide network, solutions can be found.

My dear Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, please kindly live long.

With tears in my eyes and folded hands.

    Hi Shin Tan,

You have said that Seaweed will help.

My neighbour sometimes ago has mentioned to me Cottonii Seaweed from Sabah/Sarawak.

I have not made any purchase from them. But if this will help, I will go check it out and offer them to Rinpoche.

When is has been decided that this type of seaweed will help Rinpoche, please kindly let me know and I will do what is required.

      Thank you for your help.

  28. Zla’od on Oct 26, 2011 at 12:46 am

I agree with the poster who urged Rinpoche to see a medical doctor trained in “Western” “allopathic” scientific medicine–i.e. not a Chinese herbalist (or any other kind of witch doctor). Some say Steve Jobs died because he wasted time with alternative health nostrums, when his cancer was treatable with conventional medicine. Best wishes and sympathy in any case.

  29. Ash Ng on Oct 26, 2011 at 4:26 am

Dear root guru, it’s with sadness to hear about Your condition, do take good care of Your health and please kindly follow the advise from Your trusted physician and have the necessary diet to improve Your condition. KWPC is Rinpoche’s wish to benefit future generations, just like Ganden Monastary built six centuries ago which produces countless erudite masters whom have saved many beings. I beseech my root guru to stay longer so that more sentient beings may benefit from Your selfless compassionate Dharma works and to produce more of such great masters just like You in the future. Rinpoche, please stay…

  30. Ann Lachman on Oct 26, 2011 at 8:49 am

Rinpoche- Don’t lose heart! You always say it to us! Don’t lose heart! The world needs you. Be patient with your students. Cut back – dont spill so many beans! Let them dig it out for themselves. They can. the ones who will, will. — But i understand if thats not your way…but i wish you would not burn it up so fast. PLEASE STAY. Love ,Ann

  31. May on Oct 26, 2011 at 12:17 pm

HE Tsem Rinpoche’s wish to be fulfilled is for the government of Malaysia to approve the building permit for Kechara World Peace Centre (that’s my guess here) for he wishes to be in the forest and mountains soon before his illness manifest further.

With the approval of the building licence for KWPC to manifest, it will prolong Tsem Rinpoche’s life to remain here to continue to turn the wheel of dharma in Malaysia and benefit many many more around the world.

If there is anyone out there who can really help HE Tsem Rinpoche, like all Kecharians do, please lend a helping hand if we wish for Tsem Rinpoche to remain for many more years to come.

    • Aik Seng on Oct 26, 2011 at 6:48 pm

OMG, Rinpoche has been telling the whole world of his wish all these 19 years and u r still “guessing” as to what needs to be done at his dying hours. Why still give the (false) impression that no one is sure KWPC is his mission and objective and only act now when it is too late? I think Kechara Committee owes all members and most of all HE Tsem Tulku Rinpoche an explanation before he goes.Get real – asking for anyone out there to take over the responsibility is not the solution but just passing the buck.

        Dear Aik Seng,

As one of the youngest full-timers in Kechara, I understand all the above that you have kindly pointed out.

However, being in Kechara, I see it for my own eyes how many people have given up their high-paying secular jobs to be part of something that they believe in. This is (but not limited to) the following:

        1. To help spread the Dharma.
        2. Develop their spiritual practice.
        3. To be part of the team that realizes Rinpoche’s goal, KWPC.

One of the reasons why I joined full-time was to be part of this team. For wherever they lack, may I be able to fill that void. For wherever and whatever they are strong in, may I be able to support them.

So, I put it to you, will you be part of the solution for all the problems that you perceive?

        If so, how?
        And if so, when?

As Rinpoche has said in his published book, “If Not Now, When?”

Lets work together and not criticize one another without any actions to back up our words. :)

        • Aik Seng on Oct 27, 2011 at 1:59 am

Just read Rinpoche’s blog ‘What I Am Writing Now’ about how his own views if on the subject matter and then tell me if you are not biased in your view. I am just stating the fact by asking a question as to why ppl are “guessing’ what Kechara’s objectives are and you went off in a tangent to take it as a critism. I have all the evidence to back up my words but you are only your deluded mind to make your naive view. Don’t be too cock sure of yourself and come to ppl’s defense so readily and blindly. You have much to learn in your wisdom

          • joey wong on Oct 27, 2011 at 8:42 am

It’s easy and fun to criticize and comment from the sidelines right? everyone else is smaller than you when you’re high up on a mountain. Jean Mei is a very sincere assistant of Rinpoche and what she says has genuine backing. You on the other hand make disrespectful comments on Rinpoche’s blog and attack people close to him. If you were to say this when you’re already a full time worker in Kechara, perhaps i would take your view more seriously but if you dont even know Kechara and you make such comments based on something you read, dont you think your comments apply to yourself rather to on Jean Mei?

Please be respectful to people who can do what we cannot: supporting and helping Rinpoche’s causes directly instead of barking and criticizing from a distance. And please respect others and especially yourself by not criticizing Rinpoche’s students on Rinpoche’s blog. Which Guru likes to see unfounded criticism towards his students?

Is sad to hear this, i hope you will heal and won’t have to go through any pain.

It’s very sad to read about Rinpoche’s health condition from Dr Jiang. But it’s even sad that we took it for granted, chose not to listen and trust Rinpoche when He told us directly few years ago about His sickness….

Rinpoche’s compassion, patience and care for His students and all sentient beings are endless and immeasurable! And because of these, Rinpoche has taken up and absorbed most of our bad karma for some of His students….

As per Shin’s message, we the students of Rinpoche should listen to His advices and follow and put into practice all the way…it will contribute to Rinpoche’s health condition and extend Rinpoche’s life.

May KWPC’s land work permit manifests soon, it will also contribute to Rinpoche’s long life.

  36. Koh Hee Peng on Oct 26, 2011 at 9:43 pm

I am sad not because H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche has only 1 – 3 years left to be with us. I am sad because most likely I would not have the merits to meet H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche again for many, many eons of lives should H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche passes away within the next 1 – 3 years.

H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche would continue to take rebirth to benefit all sentient beings. As for me, who is constantly under the subjugation of my own selfishness, has no control over my own rebirth that is subjected to the karma that I have collected since beginingness of time.

May I have the will, determination and courage to transform myself and dedicate all my efforts to the success of Kechara World Peace Center and to the longetivity of H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche.

May H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche not abandon us, continue to turn the wheel of dharma, has no obstacles to his dharma works, and be surrounded by sound and enthusiastic students.

May H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s vision of Kechara World Peace Center be realised as swiftly as possible, benefiting all sentient beings from all directions.

I hope you’ll be able to recover soon. I know time and life are very precious. My sincere wish for KPWC to manifest swiftly and Rinpoche to have long life and good health.

I chance upon some articles today of a local herb that is able to reduce inflammation of liver and as an anti-cancer remedy. The name of the plant is Drooping Clinacanthus. It was reported in newspaper few months ago, someone in Taiping was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma. He used the herbs and after 13 days, his doctor told him the tumors have disappeared.

  38. Tsem Ladrang on Oct 27, 2011 at 5:44 am

    Dear friends,

Thank you for your concern regarding H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s health. It is encouraging to see that so many people care deeply enough to offer suggestions towards improving Rinpoche’s health.

The Ladrang wishes to address some of the discussion that has taken place regarding Rinpoche’s diagnosis and treatment.

Rinpoche was diagnosed by Dr Jiang, who is a qualified practitioner with decades of experience in a medical tradition that developed over thousands of years. He is Rinpoche’s personal doctor, and has successfully treated Rinpoche and his students for many ailments that could not be treated by Western medication. For example, Rinpoche suffered from severe migraines for many years, which could not be diagnosed or successfully treated using Western medical recommendations. It was not until Dr Jiang treated Rinpoche, that the migraines lessened considerably in both frequency and intensity.

Rinpoche goes for regular medical check-ups, and has recently undergone an extensive health screening. This screening included all tests recommended by Western doctors, and the results showed there were no medical problems; that is, none of the tests detected anything wrong.

Thus the Ladrang are grateful to Dr Jiang, who has been very beneficial for Rinpoche’s health. If it were not for his care, Rinpoche’s present condition would not have been diagnosed. Alongside this care, Dr Jiang’s treatment is also complemented by a closely monitored diet that is managed by close students who have been with Rinpoche for many years.

Please be assured that the Ladrang fully understands the gravity of Rinpoche’s medical condition, and is exploring all avenues of treatment, both Western and Eastern. We wish to make as unbiased and informed a decision as possible with regards to our lama’s health.

We ask that you please respect Rinpoche and the Ladrang’s decision to stick with Dr Jiang’s prognosis, as it accurately matches with both Rinpoche’s current experience of his condition, and the Ladrang’s experience of Dr Jiang’s treatments. Thank you everyone for your interest and concern in Rinpoche’s health.

    Thank you,
    Tsem Ladrang

i read through all the replies and i am very happy that Rinpoche have an experience doctor taking care of his health needs. What we all can do now is to do our daily puja and dedicate it to our guru. We have to transfer the merits to Rinpoche and may he live longer and be with us. Teach us and guide us

  40. Uncle Eddie on Oct 27, 2011 at 3:38 pm

In view of the seriousness of the degeneration of Rinpoche’s sickness, we all should adhere to and follow whatever directives and instruction of our Tsem Ladrang. With Tsem Ladrang’s long experiences and nuturing of Rinpoche’s sickness, we should be awared that they are of full understanding and control of the gravity of Rinpoche’s medical conditions. We are confident that they will be able to make a more realistical decision on how best to treat our guru’s health. Thus, whatever method, way and avenues of treatments would be done with full understanding of the gravity of Rinpoche’s medical conditions, and obviously at the best of their ability. May Tsem Rinpoche’s vision of KWPC be realised soonest possible to benefit all sentient beings! OM mani padme hum.

  41. Tenzin on Oct 27, 2011 at 5:49 pm

An evaluation by western medicine would certainly be appropriate/mandatory I would think. (State of the art medical care needed)Rinpoche will be in my prayers. I first learned about Rinpoche with the passing of Geshe la Gyeltsen. I am shocked and saddened upon reading tonight about his illness. I hope he is able to get the best medical treatment. Om Mani Padme Hum. Om Mani Padme Hum. Om Mani Padme Hum.

    • jeanai on Oct 28, 2011 at 2:57 pm

Hi Tenzin, Rinpoche has been evaluated by Western medicine but all of the tests did not find anything wrong. When Dr Jiang checked Rinpoche however, he found that Rinpoche had a liver condition. But yes, Rinpoche will be evaluated by the Western tradition of medicine to reconfirm the diagnosis made by Dr Jiang :)

It is very sad to have known that Rinpoche has a fatal illness and myself see it with my own eyes that how much pain Rinpoche has to endure. Rinpoche has lived his life none other than spreading dharma and benefiting others. His teachings and talks attracted thousands of attendees let alone his online presence. How fortunate we are to have encounter such a great teacher!

Due to our lack of understanding, ignorance and attachments. we have come to this stage. So do we give up now? Do we run away? Or are we so scare that we lost faith in dharma?

Or should we do something about it? What would you do when someone in your life has benefited you tremendously? Will you repay his kindness? Of course you would. I guess it is high time that we truly practice dharma. Through our effort in dharma, we can make a change in prolonging Rinpoche’s life. And we clearly know there are things to be done. we can make a difference! In our guru’s life and in someone else’s life. That’s the beauty of dharma!

However, Dr Jiang has been a wonderful doctor by treating Rinpoche. Rinpoche has seen many doctors but with Dr Jiang, he was the one who discover the illness and the treatment has been good. Instead of sitting and feeling sorrow, i think we should feel very blessed to have find a perfect guru and practice true dharma. With people work together, together we can strive to achieve something big in life -KWPC!

Let’s work together to achieve that! Contribute in any way you could!

      Dear Anthony,
There are a lot of materials on Rinpoche’s teachings on youtube, on the blog, books by KMP or other kechara related websites one can start there. One core study subject we have is the Lamrim that gives us a very solid foundation to start off with. In act many of rinpoche’s teachings are based on the lamrim just the presentation and the words used suit the contemporary crowd more.

if we do not have any daily meditations the the Guru Yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa is perfect for any beginner. Do contact me on mail@tsemaldrang.com if you have further queries. thank you.

    Dear Guru Tsem Tulku Rinpoche,

Half of me felt very sad about your current situation, another half of me felt relieved that at least you have very loyal and capable Kecharians to take care of you.

Your teachings has always been very concise, honest and funny. It is quite difficult to find such a teacher. I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I notice that this news has instigated a “heated” debate. I believe that all of us are just very concern about Guru Tsem Tulku Rinpoche health.

It is definitely a sad sad news to hear that Rinpoche is diagnosed with a fatal illness. And so many wish unfulfilled but to date, he uses his life to accomplish so much that we can not do single handed. It started with just Rinpoche himself, in a foreign land. Through his hard work and determination, we are so lucky to have a huge, comfortable place called Kechara to learn the dharma.

Not to mention his online presence, how many people over the internet has gotten benefit, inspired, thankful and changed their life because of his great style of teachings and compassion work.

I am very fortunate to take refuge in this very life of this great master. Rinpoche is enduring a lot of pain, pain that we can’t imagine. He has undergone so many tests and treatment from both western and chinese doctor. To date, Dr Jiang is such a great doctor. Without him, we won’t even find out Rinpoche’s illness in time even so many tests had been conducted.

Dr Jiang is monitoring closely at Rinpoche’s condition and so far the treatment has been good and the Ladrang is looking closely at Rinpoche’s diet and well being.

If you have learn the dharma in some ways, practice it. If you have get in touch with his great teachings, share it. Share this blog with your friends. It is not the end but a great beginning. Because of Rinpoche, we did something meaningful in our lives. And we are striving to build Kechara World Peace Center in this very life!

Get involved with us, support us in anyway you can. Spread the teachings far and wide. Let’s work together to bring this to others.

Kechara World Peace Center is not a dream, it is a reality.

What beautiful words for us to hear. Now you speak the words of a Buddha. Rinpoche knows us all and knows our selfish grasping at his skirts. Just love him and wait without pressurizing him to be well…He either will or He wont and we are not to know this. Make him laugh. Gentle his human form. Hold him and stroke his head and form with beautiful oils and he will be fine…one way or the other.

Dear Rinpoche or who it may concerned,

I really care about Rinpoche’s health eventhough I have not seen him in person. Rinpoche has once helped me return to my life in the past.

Here is my advice to him:-
I think Rinpoche should go for body scans/ proper diagnosis before Dr Jiang is able to be sure of what is happening inside his body without any actual medical evidence.

I am a Malaysian chinese with a medical background,in fact i’m working as an injury management advisor. I love studying about tradional chineese medicince but honestly speaking, not all medical condition is sufficient with chinese medicine. Especially with diagnosis of cancer, one needs to undergo medical scans in order to conclude medical diagnosis.

I agree with Dr Jiang’s diet therapy but I think Rinpoche needs to see an Oncologist for proper diagnosis. In the end, it is up to him to decide whether he wants to continue his traditional chinese medicine or western medicine( chemotherapy etc.)

Just like Steve Jobs, apparently, he could have gone for early stage treatment which is to undergo surgery to remove the tumour in his liver before it began to enlarge and spread to other parts of body. However, Steve went to seek traditional medicine, and his condition worsened till to terminal stage.

I agree with Martin Bosnev’s comment, and I think his advise is for Rinpoche’s benefit.I feel the blog’s reply to the comment was personal and rude! I hope everyone here can think in a rational way.

    I will pray for you.

    Take care Rinpoche,
    E-va

They brought liver inflamation down, after 3 to 6 months virus count down to almost normal, undetectable level. Monthly blood test is a must with full liver panel blood test. No alcohol drinking, maintain a good excercise schedule and have a healthy diet. Also taking daily 3 pills of NOW Liver detoxifier and Regenator pills which contains Milk Thistles and other herbs that really help the liver to detox and heal. You can get this from Amazon.com. Dearest Rinpoche,

I am very sad that you have to suffer our bad kharma and have such a short time left with us. Upon reflection on my mother’s recent death, I’ve realised that with the death of both parents, I have to finally grow up and take responsibility totally. No more safety blanket to fall back on if I get into whatever kind of trouble. So I guess that is also part of the reason why Rinpoche manifested this condition. So now all Kecharians and those who believe in Rinpoche need to really start being responsible for our own mind transformation and not always think Rinpoche is there to “save” us from our mistakes. Only then can we gain the collective merits for Rinpoche’s vision to manifest, ie. KWPC, which will attract tremedous number of visitors and to plant some imprint in them. In turn, I truly hope that Rinpoche will have the wish to stay with us longer, to continue turning the wheel of dharma for others who have not had the opportunity to learn of Buddha’s wisdom. From the online responses, it is apparent that Rinpoche had blessed many lives with his modern approach to teaching. With the realisation of Rinpoche’s impermanent life, I hope that Rinpoche will bless us all with the extension of his life. A Living Buddha amidst us will truly be treasured with great joy.

    Dear Everyone,

It is amazing my Chinese Traditional Doctor found the problem. If it was not for him, no one would have known the problem at all. I would even know I have to go for further scans and tests.

I will be going for extensive tests soon at the insistence of my Chinese Tradtitional doctor. This is what he recommended from the first diagnosis from day one when he discovered the problem. He said he can detect the problem, and also help to mitigate, but I have to go to hospital to actually cure it. His medicines and treatment has helped me so much.

I thank everyone for their concerns and care.

Extensive huge pujas are being done for me in the Monasteries also. I have recieved get well messages from monks, high lamas, friends, and students from all around the world. And I thank everyone for their care.

I will get further treatment. Much humility, Tsem Rinpoche

For over a year now, around my liver area, I feel a large lump inside and also sharp prickly feelings. It felt very uncomfortable in that area, and when you press you gently it has excruciating pain. You can press any other area and I am ok, but that area always feels swollen, uncomfortable and extremely painful. Now I need to get that taken care of.

My Chinese Traditional doctor has been amazing for treating my migraines this year. I’ve had very bad migraines at least 5 to 6 times a week and I would take cafergot and synflex to curb the intense pain. Through acupuncture, massage and medicines he has prescribed for the last 5 months, I would say my migraines have reduced to once in every two weeks. But the migraines are very light and I don’t have to take medicine anymore. So I am continuing my treatment for this. My doctor is also wonderful in treating flus. I have sent over 20 persons to him with flus and he has done wonders with them they have reported to me. Also I have twisted my ankles or sprained a knee, and his treatments for this has been wonderful. I will not go to any Western trained doctor for sprains, twists, and migraines, Their procedures for ‘healing’ takes a very long time. The Traditional Chinese doctors are best for this. I have recieved so many good results. Acupuncture is really wonderful for sure. I like Chinese Traditional treatment for many problems.

Currently I am having him treat three other persons for intense migraines through acupuncture. One is showing good results already and she has reduced taking Panadol to nil as opposed to prior to treatments, she had migraines daily and popped Panadols daily….. The other two has just started treatments. Tsem Rinpoche

      Dear Rinpoche,
I am glad that Rinpoche is in good hands of the Chinese traditional doctor. Take much care, and hope to see you and listen to your live teachings.

I’ve just read this news this morning, and I am deeply sad at knowing this prognosis. Have they mentioned about a possibility of liver transplant? Rinpoche is a person I deeply have a strong respect and love.My prayers and thoughts will be with him and for him every day.It is in my hopes and desire that he will be able to recuperate and live a long healthy life. Many blessings to our Dear Rinpoche from the bottom of my heart, and I truly mean this hambly.

    Dear Rinpoche,

This is very sad news. I hope Rinpoche will get well soon. I will dedicate my prayers to Rinpoche. This sickness manifesting is partly due to me not doing much towards benefiting others. I will work harder to make Kechara grow. I promise to do everything that Rinpoche tells me to do. I am very sorry for everything I did not do well because it adds to the load of Rinpoche’s sickness. I am very sorry. Please get well soon so that many more will benefit due to Rinpoche’s teachings.

    Love,
    Sean

Discourse to Girimananda Thera (Girimananda Sutta[1])

Thus have I heard [rewritten from the book of protection]:

On one occasion the Blessed One was living near Savatthi at Jetavana at the monastery of Anathapindika. Now at that time, the Venerable Girimananda was afflicted with a disease, was suffering therefrom, and was gravely ill. Thereupon the Venerable Ananda approached the Buddha and having saluted him sat beside him. So seated the Venerable Ananda said this to the Blessed One:

“Bhante (Venerable Sir,) the Venerable Girimananda is afflicted with disease, is suffering therefrom, and is gravely ill. It were well, bhante, if the Blessed One would visit the Venerable Girimananda out of compassion for him.” (Thereupon the Buddha said):

“Should you, Ananda, visit the monk Girimananda and recite to him the ten contemplations, then that monk Girimananda having heard them, will be immediately cured of his disease.

    “What are the ten?
    Contemplation of impermanence.
Contemplation of anatta (absence of a permanent self or soul). Contemplation of foulness (asubha).
    Contemplation of disadvantage (danger).
    Contemplation of abandonment.
    Contemplation of detachment.
    Contemplation of cessation.
Contemplation of distaste for the whole world.
Contemplation of impermanence of all component things.
    Mindfulness of in-breathing and out-breathing.

    i. “And what, Ananda, is contemplation of impermanence? Herein, Ananda, a monk having gone to the forest or to the foot of a tree or to an empty house (lonely place) contemplates thus: ‘Matter (visible objects) is impermanent; feeling or sensation is impermanent; perception is impermanent; formations are impermanent; consciousness is impermanent. Thus he dwells contemplating impermanence in these five aggregates.’ This, Ananda, is called contemplation of impermanence.

ii. “And what Ananda is contemplation of anatta? Herein, Ananda, a monk having gone to the forest or to the foot of a tree or to a lonely place contemplates thus: ‘The eye is not the self; visible objects are not the self; the ear is not the self; sounds are not the self; the nose is not the self; smells are not the self; the tongue is not the self; tastes are not the self; the body is not the self; bodily contacts (tangible objects) are not the self; the mind is not the self; mental objects are not the self.’ Thus he dwells contemplating not self in these internal and external bases. This, Ananda, is called contemplation of anatta.

iii. “And what, Ananda, is contemplation of foulness? Herein, Ananda, a monk contemplates this body upwards from the soles of the feet, downwards from the top of the hair, enclosed in skin, as being full of many impurities. In this body there are head-hairs, body-hairs, nails, teeth, skin, flesh, sinews, bones, marrow, kidneys, heart, liver, pleura, spleen, lungs, intestines, intestinal tract, stomach, feces, bile, phlegm, pus, blood, sweat, fat, tears, grease, saliva, nasal mucous, synovium (oil lubricating the joints), and urine. Thus he dwells contemplating foulness in this body. This, Ananda, is called contemplation of foulness.

iv. “What, Ananda, is contemplation of disadvantage (danger)? Herein, Ananda, a monk having gone to the forest, or to the foot of a tree, or to a lonely place, contemplates thus: ‘Many are the sufferings, many are the disadvantages (dangers) of this body since diverse diseases are engendered in this body, such as the following: Eye-disease, ear-disease, nose-disease, tongue-disease, body-disease, headache, mumps, mouth-disease, tooth-ache, cough, asthma, catarrh, heart-burn, fever, stomach ailment, fainting, dysentry, swelling, gripes, leprosy, boils, scrofula, consumption, epilepsy, ringworm, itch, eruption, tetter, pustule, plethora, diabetes, piles, cancer, fistula, and diseases originating from bile, from phlegm, from wind, from conflict of the humors, from changes of weather, from adverse condition (faulty deportment), from devices (practiced by others), from kamma-vipaka (results of kamma); and cold, heat, hunger, thirst, excrement, and urine.’ Thus he dwells contemplating disadvantage (danger) in this body. This Ananda, is called contemplation of disadvantage (danger).

    v. “And what, Ananda, is contemplation of abandonment? Herein, Ananda, a monk does not tolerate a thought of sensual desire that has arisen in him, dispels it, makes an end of it, and annihilates it. He does not tolerate a thought of ill-will that has arisen in him, but abandons, dispels it, makes an end of it, and annihilates it. He does not tolerate a thought of cruelty that has arisen in him but abandons it, dispels it, makes an end of it, and annihilates it. He does not tolerate evil, unprofitable states that arise in him from time to time, but abandons them, dispels them, makes an end of them, and annihilates them. This, Ananda, is called contemplation of abandonment.

vi. “And what, Ananda, is contemplation of detachment? Herein, Ananda, a monk having gone to the forest, or to the foot of a tree, or to a lonely place, contemplates thus: ‘This is peaceful, this is sublime, namely, the stilling of all conditioned things, the giving up of all substratum of becoming, the extinction of craving, detachment, Nibbana.’ This, Ananda, is called contemplation of detachment.

vii. “And what, Ananda, is contemplation of cessation? Herein, Ananda, a monk having gone to the forest, or to the foot of a tree, or to a lonely place, contemplates thus: ‘This is peaceful, this is sublime, namely, the stilling of all component things, the extinction of craving, cessation, Nibbana.’ This, Ananda, is called contemplation of cessation.

viii. “And what, Ananda, is contemplation of distaste for the whole world? Herein, Ananda, (a monk) by abandoning any concern and clinging to this world, by abandoning mental prejudices, wrong beliefs, and latent tendencies concerning this world, by not grasping them, but by giving them up, becomes detached. This, Ananda, Is called contemplation of distaste for the whole world.

ix. “And what, Ananda, is contemplation of impermanence of all component things? Herein, Ananda, a monk is wearied, humiliated, and disgusted with all conditioned things. This, Ananda, is called contemplation of impermanence of all component things.

    x. “And what, Ananda, is mindfulness of in-breathing and out-breathing? Herein, Ananda, a monk having gone to the forest, or to the foot of a tree, or to a lonely place, sits down, having folded his legs crosswise, keeping the body erect, and his mindfulness alive, mindful he breathes in, mindful he breathes out.

“When he is breathing in a long breath, he knows: ‘I am breathing in a long breath’; when he is breathing out a long breath, he knows: ‘I am breathing out a long breath’; when he is breathing in a short breath, he knows: ‘I am breathing in a short breath’; when he is breathing out a short breath, he knows: ‘I am breathing out a short breath.’ ‘Conscious of the entire process[2] I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself. ‘Conscious of the entire process I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Calming the entire process, I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘calming the entire process I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Experiencing rapture, I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘experiencing rapture, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Experiencing bliss, I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘experiencing bliss, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Experiencing the mental formations (feeling and perception), I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘experiencing the mental formations, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Calming the mental formations, I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘calming the mental formations, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Experiencing the mind (according to the fourfold absorptions, or jhanas), I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘experiencing the mind, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Exceedingly gladdening the mind (by samatha, calming, as well as by vipassana, insight), I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘exceedingly gladdening the mind, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Concentrating the mind (on the breath), I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; concentrating the mind I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“‘Liberating the mind (from the nivaranas, or hindrances), I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself, ‘liberating the mind I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself; ‘contemplating impermanence (in body, feelings, perceptions, volitional formations, consciousness), I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘contemplating impermanence, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself; ‘contemplating detachment, I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘contemplating detachment, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself; ‘contemplating cessation, I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself, ‘contemplating cessation, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself; ‘contemplating abandonment, I shall breathe in,’ thus he trains himself; ‘contemplating abandonment, I shall breathe out,’ thus he trains himself.

“This, Ananda, is called mindfulness of in-breathing and out-breathing. If, Ananda, you visit the monk Girimananda and recite to him these ten contemplations, then that monk, Girimananda, having heard them, will be immediately cured of his affliction.”

Thereupon the Venerable Ananda, having learned these ten contemplations from the Blessed One, visited the Venerable Girimananda, and recited to him the ten contemplations. When the Venerable Girimananda had heard them, his affliction was immediately cured. He recovered from that affliction, and thus disappeared the affliction of the Venerable Girimananda.

May you find the way to real peace and happiness and the end of suffering for your self with ease!

November 22, 2011-Went for a whole bunch of tests today at hospital. We started at around 10 Am till 5pm. Exhausted from all the tests, blood, liver, CT, MRI, etc….have to go to see doctor again tomorrow.

I am grateful to my Chinese Traditional Doctor who discovered something was wrong in the first place to prompt me for further tests. If he never said anything, I would never have gone.

Let’s see what the doctors here will say tomorrow with the results of the test coming out. Tsem Rinpoche

  78. tsemtulku on Nov 24, 2011 at 10:02 am

Yesterday got many tests results back. Most is ok news so far. Have more medication to take and have to check in every three months with my doctor. Some of the tests came back exactly as my Chinese doctor has diagnosed and told me weeks ago. Yesterday’s tests were very comprehensive. Much more blood tests were done also at one of the best hospitals in the region.

Today I will be going for a colon scope to see for any colon polyps, tumors, etc. Now I am fasting and taking a special liquid to clear the colon before the test. I will be put under sedation. Simulatneously will be doing a endoscope today also to be sure. Every organ in my abdominal region will be thoroughly checked to account for the intense pain experienced weeks ago.

I saw three Western trained doctors in the last week and their diagnosis contradicts eachother. Both are top in their fields as specialists. But the second doctor is much more thorough, with much more comprehensive tests and explains things clearer. The second doctor match what my Chinese Doctor says. We all felt more confident with the second doctor.

Well let’s go for the test today and see how. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear Shin, thank you very much for the update. I manage to read it only today. I am extremely sad about Rinpoche’s situation and he went through all these for us. I can understand now and yes I would want to commit myself to full time dharma as soon as I get my stuff settle here. My daughter has agreed to sponsored me a little ( i pray that she honor her words) and the rest I have to find my own ways to sustain myself. I am reciting the prayers everyday and I promised to be good. I hope to see you next week when I am at the lamrim recitation. Is there anything you want me to get from Singapore. Do let me know.

    Dear Rinpoche
Can you please elaborate on your pain problems on the right abdomen. Aside form pain is there any other symptoms, physical signs and problems. Any problems with eating foods and swallowing or regurgitation or burning?
Is there any reason for the cirrhosis?
Perhaps the pain and symptoms can be reduced. Aside from pain in the right abdomen is there any pain elsewhere.
    Hope this can help.

Hello from way across the pond. I am a dharma practitioner from Massachusetts USA. I first heard of tsem rinpoche on YouTube and was immediately drawn to him. I had serious negative karma and broken vows and samayas, and was considering ending my life. Rinpoches letter to me and his teachings were of immense benefit and gave me hope that I could turn my life around. By watching and contemplating and applying tsem rinpoches teachings, my mind quickly transformed and I have a reason to live again. That reason is practicing the holy dharma and benefitting sentient beings. I feel like I owe my life to rinpoche and his kind staff. Therefore, I will dedicate any merit from my dharma practice to rinpoches long life and continued activity. I hope that rinpoche will be healthy as I personally I owe a great to him! I think the best thing we can do is continue with our practice, keep our vows/samayas intact and carry on rinpoches vision of letting the holy dharma grow in the world and in the mindstreams of sentient beings. Thank you again rinpoche, and the ledrang staff and everyone at the kechara organization. Sincerely, Ron d.

I see trees rustling in the gentle evening breeze. Nearby lake with gentle fishes full and content… Birds flying overhead. Grass growing abundantly. Flowers so colorful and the green hill in the nearby distance beckoning me to come home…in my room is a large and ancient Buddha statue with butterlamps flames dancing on the face..I see this in my minds eye and wish to be in the forest…my only longing and only wish..will it ever manifest? Dear friends, This is a well made Paranormal real life story. Nothing scary in this episode, but very powerful show of love and willpower. I want you to please watch this carefully and see how a mother reaches out to save her child. Her will was so strong she left her body. The child saw a light leaving the mother and going to the road although she died and ‘found’ people to save her child. Very touching and beautiful story. Dear friends, It is so fortunate I have the good karma that I took rebirth in dharma, near my great masters and to become a monk. I always contemplate how lucky I am to have taken this human form and come across dharma.
Just think when I was seven years old in Howell, New Jersey, I was living ten mins away from a living Master Kensur Lobsang Tharchin who was a direct disciple of His Holiness Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, HH Trijang Rinpoche and HH Zong Rinpoche. What are the chances of that??? In Howell, New Jersey of all places!! I don’t think it was a coincidence, but it was the culmination of the little bit of dharma I must have done in my previous lives as ordinary silly persons. Whatever the karma I created to be among these masters, their lineage and teachings, I am doing my best to replicate in this life, so my next life will have the same fortune. I don’t want to revert back to being empty handed in my next life…
Can you imagine, in 1979 Howell, New Jersey His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited our temples there. And I had the incredible chance to feast my samsaric eyes on His golden face. I was just 14 years old and I didn’t go to India to see Him, but His Holiness came to Howell, New Jersey where I was living ten mins away!!! Then I also recieved the 8 Verses of Thought transformation teachings/commentary from His Holiness Dalai Lama at that time and oral transmission of Om Mani Peme Hung. I cried and cried and was overwhelmed at that time. I could not believe and still cannot I recieved teachings from Chenresig Himself. I had painted a four armed Avalokitesvara painting with my self composed (silly prayers) written on the back and offered to His Holiness directly..From deep inside of me, I knew this was the right thing for me to practice what His Holiness has taught. I knew this is what I wanted for the rest of my life. I hope so much I can collect the people, resources and situations to bring these teachings and other teachings to thousands around the world in the near future. I might be throwing stones at the target in the dark because I am not qualified, but I have the passion to share what I know from my heart sincerely.
Please remember, all of us didn’t come across the dharma by accident, we created the causes. So let’s use this life to destroy as much attachments and it’s imprints as possible. Not to increase what is empty of real meaning. I fold my hands to the incomparable Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Pabongka, Trijang and Zong Lama beings. They appear as flesh and blood people, but in actual reality have gone to bliss aeons ago. May we never be far from Nagarjuna’s view and the presence of these great beings life after life until our own liberation.
With folded hands and tears streaming,
    Tsem Rinpoche

I knew of a lady who when she went to bed at night, she would feel unseen hands touch her body and disturb her sleep. This happened many times. She sought help from many places without relief. When she saw me, I gave her Singdongma. She invited a statue home, set up a shrine for Her and did Singdongma’s mantra/prayer daily. The unseen hands stopped disturbing her & this was ten years ago. She does her prayer daily to Singongma till now: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31904

Dear all, every week I am informed of a death and to offer prayers. This week I was informed of four deaths. With death, everything is almost final and if we didn’t do dharma genuinely, we would have regrets. Death is such a omnipresent and frightening stalker. Realize it will come for you one day soon and go all the way with dharma, dharma practice, dharma work and gain realizations. At death, the dharma you have is the only hope. Anything else acquired in life is a total waste of time. Please realize and wake up. Don’t procrastinate and keep yourself ‘busy’ with activities that are empty at the time of death. Our minds will continue at death and what supports that journey is our good merits and attainments collected during our lives. Tsem Rinpoche

We have done Mama Mooi Lan’s funeral last night. She was 62 and passed of heart failure. Then we had to perform baby Tashi’s funeral a few hours later… Mama Mooi Lan was cremated this morning and baby Tashi was just cremated short while ago.. We did powerful pujas at the funeral home for Mama Mooi Lan and Baby Tash before cremationi. I am so proud our Kecharians went all the way to serve the persons that have passed away and their families without any sleep at all. Needless to say the families were so in shock and pain.We had to be there for them. I had to be there for them. I gave them dharma methods to collect further merits for their loved ones who have passed away. I was humbled and honoured to perform their funerals and do prayers for their posiitive rebirths. Imagine if I was real lucky and got to live solitary in a place like this??? Imagine if my cabin was near the shore of this lake without many people around? Imagine I have my dharma books and beautiful Buddha shrine and can live here away from the delusions, false dreams, fake promises and false hopes of this world that I never believed from day one anyways??? If I should be so lucky to be in such a living environment in this all future lives... Tsem Rinpoche

Dear friends, This is a well made Paranormal real life story. Nothing scary in this episode, but very powerful show of love and willpower. I want you to please watch this carefully and see how a mother reaches out to save her child. Her will was so strong she left her body. The child saw a light leaving the mother and going to the road although she died and 'found' people to save her child. Very touching and beautiful story. This is what I believe happened, what do you think? http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31937

I knew of a lady who when she went to bed at night, she would feel unseen hands touch her body and disturb her sleep. This happened many times. She sought help from many places without relief. When she saw me, I gave her Singdongma. She invited a statue home, set up a shrine for Her and did Singdongma's mantra/prayer daily. The unseen hands stopped disturbing her & this was ten years ago. She does her prayer daily to Singongma till now: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31904

Dear all, every week I am informed of a death and to offer prayers. This week I was informed of four deaths. With death, everything is almost final and if we didn't do dharma genuinely, we would have regrets. Death is such a omnipresent and frightening stalker. Realize it will come for you one day soon and go all the way with dharma, dharma practice, dharma work and gain realizations. At death, the dharma you have is the only hope. Anything else acquired in life is a total waste of time. Please realize and wake up. Don't procrastinate and keep yourself 'busy' with activities that are empty at the time of death. Our minds will continue at death and what supports that journey is our good merits and attainments collected during our lives. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear Rinpoche, Bryan and I do so much less than what Rinpoche does. When people are asleep Rinpoche's working, when people are awake Rinpoche's working. Not many people in Kechara realize that Rinpoche works the hardest in the entire organization. I didn't know before joining Ladrang. Although Rinpoche may want to go around to pray for people in need, one day I want to able to do this instead of Rinpoche. It is quite taxing and Rinpoche can't be going out of Haven 24 hours to pray for the dying/dead. I'm happy Pastor Yek Yee and Pastor Susan wanted to come today, they really are awesome Pastors. Thank you, Jean Mei

Dear TR,  We have just collected Tashi's ashes. Our Nirvana agent who named May is a very nice lady, she is in her 40+, she is a Buddhist and a Mandarin speaker. She follow us thru out the whole session. May also bought us drinks and settle everything for us.  I have share with her about KH, TR and some other departments we have in Kechara. She is interested in KH. I will arrange with her to come and visit KH and various departments soon. The couple is sending us back home and we will go and get a stupa for Tashi's ashes. Have asked them to go back and rest after this. From Bryan

Dear Rinpoche, The casket has been filled with baby Tashi and baby items that Rinpoche bought for him. We did prayers before he left to be cremated. Thank you, Jean Mei (This morning at the funeral for baby Tashi, we bought baby items to be placed into his casket and cremated together. We wanted Tashi to have the baby items with him to let him know we care. His body is strewn with blessed rose petals. Tsem Rinpoche)

Dear all,  It's 9:30 AM. I just walked into the house after being in the hospital and then going to finish a funeral for a baby of a student. I have just conducted two funerals in the last 24 hours. The second funeral was for a baby. I had Jean Mei, Bryan, Seng Piow, Pastor Susan, Pastor Yekyee, Lew with me. Pastor Susan and Yekyee really wanted to come and learn. I am glad they made the effort.  We conducted a simple funeral by reciting holy verses, sprinkling holy water onto the baby, protector rice and scattered blessed fresh rose petals all over the baby. Afterwards I had a nice conversation about the baby's mind taking rebirth. Upon leaving the father and father's mother gave me a very warm hug of thanks and support during this most saddest of times for them...and the wife was happy and looked visibly relieved. She let go alot and let go of her guilt after we talked.. I have sent Bryan and Jean Mei with the family to cremate the baby this morning at 11AM It will take two hours and then we can bring the ashes home. Part of the ashes will be in a large stupa. All of us are extremely exhausted but did very good work. That is what Kechara is about. I am very happy we can help the baby and family along their way. When they called, they sounded extremely desperate as it was very late with no one to help them. We were very honoured to help them. I didn't call Pastor Yekyee and Pastor Susan heard, they immediately wanted to join me. Now with no sleep after baby Tashi's funeral, they went to Kechara to give dharma classes. I am proud of them and my assistants who wanted to help all last night until this morning. It is wonderful to give it all we can for others. That is what Kechara is about. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,

I have received some update from Gaden regarding Justin Ripley's ashes.

Monastery have done a whole day of Vajrayogini Daju and Ruchok this Sunday, this is for Rinpoche's previous life and current life students who passed away recently: Geshe Ngawang and Justin Ripley.

Monastery is now in the middle making Tsa Tsa out from Geshe Ngawang's ashes. After they finish, monastery start to make Tsa Tsa out from Justin's ashes.

Monastery will use Justin's ashes and make a few different type of Tsa Tsa:

1) Chenrezig, Manjushri and Vajrapani Tsa Tsa

2) White Tara, Amitayus and Nagyalma Tsa Tsa

3) small stupa Tsa Tsa

I have asked monastery to mail us few Tsa Tsa after finish, this will be place inside KFR big VY stupa.

Thanks
Bryan (Justin Ripley's ashes has been made into holy Buddha tsatsas {as in picture} to gain more merits for him). We love Justin.

When we trust, practice and go all the way with the tantric path of Vajra Yogini, we have nothing to worry about. All the worries both worldly and spiritual will be solved. We should surrender to Vajra Yogini's blessing by being our best. We just set up this wonderful statue of Buddha Vajra Yogini in our library area. How beautiful She is. Buddha Vajra Yogini is special deity for those overwhelmed by laziness, miserliness and want easy practice but big results. May all of you be blessed to see Her holy image. Kechara Discovery Dept of our orgazination does such wonderful images available for the public. I am very happy as She is beautiful. Thank You Kechara Discovery! Tsem Rinpoche

When I first arrived in Malaysia in 1992 I had a group of people who would sponsor my tickets, stay and for many years sponsor much needed help in Gaden. One of them was Ms Mooi Lan who lives in Cheras. She has been a great supporter for the last 20 years and in the past sponsor. I recieved very sad news she passed away this morning at 4Am. I request all my students to please light a candle for her to take good rebirth and come across the dharma again. Offer the candle to Buddha Dukkar..that is the Buddha I assigned to her many years ago and she diligently practiced and set up a shrine to Dukkar.. I will miss her and never forget her kindness. Many of the things I wanted to do in the past she generously helped. Tsem Rinpoche ( see here http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=4354 )

Heruka! We say we want to improve yet we don't hold our vows. We promise to keep our samaya, yet our promise to our earlier promises laxed. We want to experience only good results yet we hold onto our face. We want wealth, yet we give nothing. We want success, yet we offer tiny offerings to the Three Jewels. We say we have great faith in our Guru, yet when his assignments are difficult we run. We say we want a good rebirth yet all our actions are motivated by self gain. Heruka, Heruka, Heruka, how are we to recieve your blessings when our three doors are closed tightly by selfishness, ignorance and anger?~Tsem Rinpoche

I haven't lived in Gaden since 1992 when I was sent to Malaysia. I love Gaden and loved so much living there. I like so many things about Gaden. Conversations would not be lonely and easy. Whatever I talk about the monks immediately understand. I do not have to face 'opposition' , doubts, hundreds of questions, and every detail simple about the dharma or dharma work has to be explained. I miss that so much. I am not lonely for company, but I am lonely for familiarity very much. I was very content, at peace and in my element in Gaden. I never knew or imagined I would have to go to Malaysia, stay and take on heavy responsibilities. I am not complaining but I love Gaden, the monks, my teachers, the great masters, the senior monks whom I have many friends. I miss them so much. So so much. I love and respect the great old monks, Rinpoches and spectacular Geshes. Gaden was a city of practitioners and I was home. Lord Tsongkapa's presence pervades the whole Gaden. TR

Dear all, I gave a talk on desire to a few inclusive of Paris and David. I asked David and Paris to write up the talk on their blogs. My plan was after they write it, I'll link it to my blog. From my blog people will click to their blog to read the write up and benefit many who read the talk. Paris did a very good write up and did not miss the subtle points I was expressing that night. She really took the time and effort to write it...I was happy to see she wrote exaclty as I expressed. Effort pays off usually or eventually. I am happy to see there are 669 views (43 comments) already going back to Paris' blog to read the teachings. The teachings will be benfit many. Must save and read again and again. Must share with others...Must contemplate. You want dharma, I am giving it to you and Paris wrote it out perfectly. Bryan gave me an incredible MOTHER'S DAY GIFT. It is so auspicious. He had someone draw HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche's sacred face onto the body of Buddha Vajradharma. Buddha Vajradharma is the form Buddha takes to teach the immaculate and fautless tantra of Vajra Yogini. In Vajra Yogini's tantra and meditations, you must visualize your guru in the form of Vajradharma to make offerings both inner, outer & secret offerings daily to one's tantric guru & to meditate on Him in that form. It is very integral part of the practice. If you do the meditations well on your guru in this particular form during the practice of the sadhana..you can gain tremendous realizations and control over one's mind to leave the body when you want. So getting this picture today was an omen if Kecharians fulfill their responsibilities, then Vajra Yogini's practice will spread in this region. Very good omen. I feel this strongly. Bryan really planned out this gift & surprised me!! I will put in Chamang Ladrang in the future. THANK YOU BRYAN!!TR

Back in New Jersey over 30 years ago, there lived a lady down the street who was also a student of my teacher. Her name is Carmen (she is a nun now and her ordination name is: Ani Thupten). She had a nice size library of books and many dharma books. I loved the Dharma books!! I would spend so much time browsing and getting snippets of each book from Carmen. I use to ride by bike down to chat with her and borrow her books and it took me like 5 mins by bike..She lived on the same street. I would read dharma books voraciously and write down my questions. I would call Carmen almost daily for years to ask her to clarify the readings I had questions on. She would spend hours on a phone with me answering questions never once losing patience. I learned so much from her. She had vast dharma knowledge, very devoted to our teacher and would do her meditations and extensive sadhanas daily. She would join in all the dharma classes and pujas at our nearby Kalmuck Buddhist Temple. She was such a good dharma friend and I enjoyed her company very much. I wanted to be like her to have the freedom to study and practice dharma. When I recievd my first initiation by our teacher at the temple, Carmen sat right next to me on the front row. Thrilling!! After initiation we would have ten days of explanations (commentary) from our teacher His Eminence Kensur Losang Tharchin Rinpoche. I was so excited and deeply happy to get commentary from our great and knowledgable teacher. What I did not understand, I would of course consult Carmen who is much more advanced and taught me patiently after each day’s teachings. Around 15 years ago Carmen came to India and I travelled with her to holy Bodhgaya, Varanasi and Dharamsala. I escorted her to these places. Since then I have not met up with her. But I know she is fine. Around two years back I sent her a three foot Vajra Yogini statue as a gift from me. Carmen received the statue and was very happy. It was my offering to her for so much kindness shown me when I was a child. I wish so much she can visit Malaysia. She would be happy. We all want to be a part of something big and with good results. But the only way we can be a part of that is if we work hard together with the other members of our Kechara. The time will pass. It can pass with you taking on difficulties or it can pass with you doing nothing. I feel it's better to work hard now and enjoy later than to enjoy nothing now and then end up nowhere later. Prayers and dedications are ok, but hard work must be part of the prayer. Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness the Dalai Lama seated here with His sacred mother. A mother who gives birth to great beings like Shakyamuni, Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, Trijang Rinpoche, etc must be a Buddha Herself, a highly realized Dakini, a powerful practitioner, or a lady who made prayers in previous lives to provide others with great dharma in one way or another. A lady of great spiritual merit or virtue.. I wanted to share this photo with you because if I ever met His Holiness' mother, I would prostrate to Her immediately. Beautiful picture. His Holiness is not ordinary for sure and neither could a being who gave birth to Him. Tibetans always said she was very saintly, gentle, simple and deeply spiritual. During Her lifetime many went to recieve Her blessings..Tsem Rinpoche

It's very revealing how when you give, offer and have something for them, they crowd around smiling, happy and easy. The minute you ask them to give something, contribute or really help out, they totally disappear. Handphones shut. No replies. No sound. As if you they never knew you. People like that make themselves 2nd rate, find 1st rate people to work with and move on. Recently I encountered some students like that!~ Tsem Rinpoche

Last night between 300-400 persons congregated at Kechara while I gave a talk to them on 'making a choice' and 'the power and purpose of stupas'. The talk has been taped and will be blogged once tape is ready. The talk was two hours and it flowed well for me although I had very little sleep. Towards the end of the talk I gave refuge vows to 100 new persons from different countries for this. When everything was done, I met up with a group of 15 and 5 from Shanghai. Had a nice dharma talk with them on how to make a centre grow and harmony. Passed out nice dharma gifts to all the visitors so they don't go home empty handed. Also seperately met some directors and movie producers that attended the talk and sought private time with me..these producers and directors are very well known locally. One is from Hong Hong. Got home around 5Am and saw so many gifts from people. Did a Manjushri dedication for all the people who offered gifts to me on Wesak day in gratitude. Also some people from Europe called in to Kechara to arrange flowers to be given to me last night. That was very sweet. I have so many flowers now..over 70 bouquets I would...guess. They have all been offered up on the shrine. Thank you. TR (May 5, 2012)

Karma exists and created constantly by our actions. Karma created in the past is fertile and will open up when the situation arises. We should never relax and think everything will be alright when there is so much volatile latent karma like a huge volcano temporarily dormant. We can do something about it though. This picture of myself was taken in December 1987 in Kathmandu, Nepal. I was around 25 years old and I had just taken my ordination vows a few weeks ago from His Holiness Dalai Lama. I was a fresh and new monk that time. Shortly after this picture was taken, I travelled to South India to join with Gaden Monastery. Tsem Rinpoche

May 1, 2012. I am sitting under the wonderful veranda just outside of my room here at Kechara Forest Retreat. The veranda area has a fan too!! See the beautiful prayer flags fluttering behind me blessing the environment...Our Datuk May, Martin, Joe and Jeffrey did such a good job. Thank you team. Your work here has just started. The four of you will create something powerful and blessed here for thousands of people to come and get blessed. I am so happy for you. It will be hard work, but very fulfilling...it will bring tears to your eyes when you see how much benefit it brings when complete. Tsem Rinpoche

If we always do not understand Dharma, then that is a sign of not studying. If we always blame Dharma, it is a sign we do not know what dharma really is. If we always expect of the Dharma, then we are using Dharma in ineffective methods. If we find Dharma difficult, then it is because we are unwilling to accept it. If we give up the Dharma, we are get deeper into our sufferings without respite. If we complain about Dharma it is a sign we are looking for blame in the wrong places and not within ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,
SO FANTASTIC! Me staring at rainbow. Love dm
****(April 22, 2012-Sunday-Kechara is very lucky. Many times when we are about to embark on something really beneficial or just finished something very good, we will often times witness a rainbow and there is no rain or clouds.Today again at KECHARA FOREST RETREAT after they finished their work in the evening another clear rainbow appeared in the clear sky reported to me by Datuk May and ten other Kecharians volunteering there today. See the beautiful picture of the rainbow...TR)

I prostrate to my Guru the consummate Lojong master who teaches us how to laugh at death by creating right causes n how to regret n cry at death by doing stupid things. Exciting indeed that we can do either.
I rather die w natural smile than a fake one made up by the embalmers.
Thank you for reminding we hv choice.
Gratefully yours
