His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is both the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet. He was born on 6 July 1935, to a farming family, in a small hamlet located in Taktser, Amdo, northeastern Tibet. At the age of two the child, who was named Lhamo Dhondup at that time was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso. The Dalai Lamas are believed to be manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and patron saint of Tibet. Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have postponed their own nirvana and chosen to take rebirth in order to serve mankind.
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is certainly the King of Dharma. For this first time in history, under the leadership of His Holiness, Tibetan Buddhadharma has taken centre stage in the international arena. His Holiness has also caused Buddhadharma to be the fastest growing religion in the 21st century.
The Dalai Lama has become a household name and the Dharma teachings are spreading ferociously in lands that were barren of Dharma. Through the Dalai Lama’s work, spirituality for all types of Dharma (Islam, Jewish, Christian etc.) is also gaining stronger foothold worldwide in the last 40 years. With greater publicity (which, sorry to say, is necessary during this period) and awareness, more mind streams are touched by the Dharma whereby Dharma seeds are planted to restore degeneration.
Through the effort of His Holiness in the past 4 decades, the path is paved for the next generation of attained Dharma scholars and masters to continue to turn the wheel of Dharma in a smoother and swifter manner. Our King of Dharma is very kind to ensure that the Dharma will always be close to sentient beings even after his current lifetime.
Terima Kasih Rinpoche!
I once read that mere sight of His Holiness would mean Liberation..
Many Tibetan Buddhist households keep an image of Him on their altars like how HRM King Bhumipol is also revered similarly.
I must salute Him for being most patient and fearless for the Tibetan exile cause despite various pressures and uncertainties.
Through Him, the Dharma has gone far into the West and into many hearts of Westerners and also to other parts of this globalised world of today.
May His Holiness continue in His Great Compassion and Wisdom to remain in samsara for the benefit of all sentient beings until they attain Liberation!
The holder of the White Lotus,
Lord whose home is high up in the Land of Snows,
Compassionate master pervading the entire 10 realms,
At Your holy feet I make prostration.
HHDL is truly a man of peace worth our worship simply because He embodies what he preaches and truly exists solely for the love of others. Imagine a man who lives loving others for who they are and want them to be better all the time?
I know one thing for sure that HHDL never sleeps for the fact that he worries for others and is constantly thinking about ways and means to help people in need. Hence, he is so beautiful and his inner beautly shines into the innermost being in our hearts
Om Svasti!
