One of the things that most impresses me about HH Dalai Lama is his bright humour and joy. I suppose a lot of people expect spiritual leaders to be quite solemn and “proper”, perhaps almost to the point where to laugh is to sin, but HH Dalai Lama has an acute sense of humour and for someone with his gruelling schedule and commitments, his mind is incredibly sharp. If I did one day of his schedule, by the end of it I’d no doubt be so exhausted I’d struggle to remember what day it was, let alone have the presence of mind to come up with a sharp witticism!
Of course, even in HH Dalai Lama’s humour, there is always a profound teaching. We can always find ways to excuse ourselves from making a (positive) difference to others (little money, lack of resources, commitments, no-one really knows us and so on), but there is always an opportunity to make a difference: even lots of small virtuous actions add up through time – one doesn’t necesarily need to make a difference on the scale of Martin Luther King Jr or Gandhi or, of course, HH Dalai Lama.
May HH Dalai Lama continue to spread his humour, warmth and joy and may he continue to inspire people to practice the pat of peace and compassion, and may HH Dalai Lama himself always enjoy peace, happiness and a long healthy life.
Kind regards,
Sandy
I think that H.H. Dalai Lama is very wise as every word he says is a profound teaching. His teachings are filled with happiness and joy. I really wish that His Holiness will have a lovely and long life so that he continue to provide warmth and happiness with the glorious Dharma. A small mosquito can make a great difference in our lives. So never think that you are to small!
ROFL!!! Fell in love with this quote right after reading it.
Indeed there are so many unsung heroes out there and their efforts have brought peace to people where it counts or an inspiration to others to also wish to make a contribution to make this world a better place.
A mosquito may be a small creature. Although their life may be short, they can be very powerful when it comes to endangering our health. They can be carrier of diseases. This applies to a Chinese saying that small chilli is more hotter than the big ones. Napolean Bonaparte is a very small man but he is very powerful and has achieve so much. In other words to my thinking is that you don’t look down on anything that is small and weak. Just like a mosquito that can cause harm by spreading disease all over the world and kill a lot of people.
