   i guess rinpoche is a snake person.snake is powerful,charming,highly wisdom people.i bow to rinpoche kindness for liberating sentient beings with his powerful wisdom and compassionate heart.May rinpoche live long and vow to save sentient beings free from delusion and ultimately attained Nirvana.

   Yes I am the year of the wood snake. My root teacher Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was a wood snake also.

   Even though Chinese read and some rely on Chinese horoscopes there are also people from different Western countries who do. But as Rinpoche writes here these horoscopes do not mean that they are 100% accurate as each individual has his/her own mind. They are a good guide and I agree one should not get caught up in them thinking that a person’s characteristics according to the Chinese horoscopes are fixed and that he/she cannot change.

   Chinese horoscope is written by human.Human make mistakes and not God.Our life is fixed at birth.Human beings is watch by ’28 constellations heavenly beings’ up in the heaven monitoring each and every human beings deeds.i am not sure which heavenly beings responsible to fixed human life at birth or it is just follow some causal laws.It is written in some of buddhism books.So why bother horoscope if there is a religion to follow.I guess the heavenly beings will send their heavenly retinue or sages such as Sakyamuni Buddhas down to earth to save and liberate humanity when the time is right.

   Horoscope and Zodiac Signs used to be my favourite topic to read beginning of every year. I used to have many books by various author. It was like my bible….ie will I be rich? will my career be successful? who and what to avoid?, which animal sign should I avoid or be friends with? and etc..hehehehe.

   But after knowing dharma I realised that it is not the signs or animal that you were born under which mold us but the karma (good and bad) which is the driving force of who we are and MOST IMPORTANTLY how we can change things around for the better.

   To be frank I didn’t really follow much on horoscope.
   Use to think that attitude and behaviors influences by family, environment and friends. Not even bother to analyze or want to know peoples character as just so ignorance and selfish.

   But after learning about compassion (which is still learning) we need to understand and even have to be more mindful about people personality.

   Not to criticize but knowing how to work with them. As Rinpoche mentioned the personalities can be changed with patience, kindness & sincerity. By knowing our shortfall and we recognize it, it’s time to work on it for better.

   Thanks Rinpoche for blogging this.
   A lot of people said it is so true to them. Me too. Hehehe…..

   This horoscope is quite different because it is written by an enlightened beings and not ordinary human beings.it might refer to anyone of you.hehehe.

    Rinpoche~~~didn’t know you like horoscope as well! Am doing vedic astrology and sometimes I recommend Kechara to my customers. Explore vedic astrology as well ya~~! I know next year there will be a very powerful and inspirational spiritual person rising from Asia.. is it you? -ur fb fan-

    Towards the end and beginning of each year, i wld start veering myself to the section on horoscopes, both western and the chinese, to read and check on what is store for me for the year..really kiasu…hahahha. Having started now on Dharma, it is interesting to read it, not becos, the prophecies/projections by those authors will be more real but you start to think why did i become so uptight when i used to deal with those horoscope signs that are said to be less compatible with me? Thank you Rinpoche for starting this section to teach us who have heavy negative karma to learn how to contemplate and change our minds and behaviour towards others.

    This is very interesting, looked up myself (Dog) and a few other people and it’s pretty accurate.

    I had someone close to me who was very into astrology. I found it frustrating because often times it made her very fearful and anxious, sort of defeatist, like things are a certain way and one can’t change them or act. It seemed to contradict karma, and cause negative results.

    If astrology and horoscopes are accurate then maybe we have the karma to be born under a certain sign at a certain time — it would make a lot of sense.

    Even though I do not have an interest in horoscope, out of curiosity I check out my sign and a few of my family members and find that it is quiet accurate.

    Horoscopes are a general overview, but everything can be changed. Karma is not solid and permanent hence, neither are the horoscopes. If we do nothing, then what the horoscopes can reflect what is happening with us…but If we do something about it we can override everything in horoscopes and samsara.

    thank you for sharing the horoscope with us Rinpoche. i must say i was an avid believer in horoscope especially when it comes to the chinese animal zodiac during every chinese new year, i was so eager to know what is the luck of my zodiac sign on the coming new year, i am born in the year of Dog. most of the time what the horoscope predicted might be accurate, but most of the time its not, but still delusions clouded me, and i keep on reading for so many years, and still believing in the prediction.

    it is when i learn Dharma, and understand about the cause and effect of Karma, and from Dearest Rinpoche explanation here, i started to see how the luck of one person does not really depends on the horoscope foretold, for horoscope is just a guide and prediction, but it is us who determine how the course of our life should be, even we can override the negative things through applying dharma. for it is due to our low minded thinking and the ignorance of karma that we blame luck, surrounding and ppl on on our misfortune.

    Thank You again Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful article with us, for many to learn more about other zodiac sign, and in the same time allowing us to understand we can override what is negative in horoscope fortune telling.

    When I just born, my parents already used Chinese horoscope to identify my character which I hated they do like this. After I had growth up, I started read the horoscope, ya sometime it is quite accurate.But, as a reference or self-reflection is good, to me. Especially the main character is quite accurate!!!I like the part “How to work with…” very useful,hehe…!!!In Chinese we called 知己知彼，百战百胜也！

      i agree, in chinese horoscope, character wise it is 90% accurate, but still the environment and people they mingle with also plays a part in shaping their character, so it is mostly like a guide to scan through the principal of the nature.

    Like our guru said, “Horoscopes are a general overveiw, but everything can be changed, so can karma also.” It all depends on whether the person has a strong determination and desire to overcome the undesirable predictions to make the necessary changes. Even the culmination of human observations centered on their trends of longtime behavioural traits can never be as impregnable as that of karma. HOWEVER, the strong belief on horoscope reading is no more centered on the chinese and asian nationals only. Many non-chinese nationals from the americans and european blocks have joined in the the astrological wagon, to propel the futuristic forecast into a reality for a good future. Every living being from the time of their birth wants happiness and not sufferings. It is therefore important to discover what will bring about the greatest degree of happiness depending upon their own efforts and not on the forecast of the horoscopes.

    The element you are born into has tremendous effect on your personality. A fire snake would be more aggressive than those born under a water snake. Water snakes are more quiet and not as aggressive but very versatile. Metal snakes are more stubborn or stuck on ideas as oppose to a fire snake. Fire snakes can be very vengeful where as a wood snake is more forgiving. Elements are important to understand and how it affects you. Take a read and learn up about yourself.
