Appreciation movie for KH Wesak Fair volunteers

Tonite kh host an appreciation movie 'Toy Story 3 ' to 57 kh members and wesak fair volunteers .
Popcorn and drink packs have been given to everyone.
This is the 1st time Natasha yu go to a movie and she is all chirpy and excited.

This is a short sms with pictures from Yoke Fui (yf). She has arranged for our Kechara Wesak day volunteers for a movie outing. They worked very hard and it was success with a rainbow culminating over the event as I have posted on another part of this blog.
Appreciating volunteers and taking good care of our people is a very strong principle I encourage my liaisons to engage in. People are important and everything must be appreciated. NOTHING MUST BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED. Thank you volunteers for making our Kechara such an astounding success in so many ways.

This year’s Kechara Wesak Fair pulsated with a lot positive energy from everyone … from members , volunteers, supporters, friends and families plus visitors, with many of them 1st time visitors.
With loads of activities lined up for the whole family, sumptuous food and beverages, items on sale, games, the field was buzzing with people till closing time.
Success is due to everyone’s participation, collective effort, generosity and kindness – from the working committee, members, benefactors with generous contribution, sponsors who donated in kind and not forgetting the volunteers – made up of adults and children. Some volunteers came from other states and even from overseas just to help!
Many hands were involved in the planning stage, before the event – setting up, and after – which entailed massive clearing up. All you could see and feel were the hands, smiles, sweat & the good vibrations of a big happy family working together!
It is fantastic to see all of them having a good time at the movies. The sharing and caring – definitely there!
@Ling: we missed you at the outing, especially as you had worked really hard on Wesak day too! We go for a movie another time again okay, so you don’t miss out!
You know, these appreciation things aren’t just arbitrary fun – as Rinpoche explained, it’s a very big part of Kechara culture, which was inspired and started by Rinpoche himself. Rinpoche always always always looks for ways to help the volunteers and staff of the organisation – it’s not just about “work you to death and tell you it’s for enlightenment, so work harder.” Yes, it is for enlightenment and great merits, but it’s also about having fun and loving the people you’re working with. As well as working our butts off for over 12 hours that day (and many, many, many weeks before that for the organising committee), we also get to let our hair down and just chill, hang out and spend fun time with each other. Cute really, that even the “oldies” were out watching a cartoon with all the rest of us. hehehe
It was so much fun that night – there were about 60 of us at the movies, we took up the whole cinema and the popcorn orders were crazy
ps toy story 3 is FANTASTIC – lots of lovely lessons in courage, friendship, loyalty and commitment. you may think it’s just a cowboy toy, a robot, a potato head and a barbie doll, but those damn little toys sure can tug at your heartstrings. Must watch – lots of dharma that you would never expect of 3d pixelated images!
All Kechara events are well supported by Liaisons, members, family and friends – we work hard and we play hard together. Right Jamie, the oldies watched with the younger ones because inside all of us, there is a little kid just waiting to come out. All in good fun, to appreciate the hard work that everyone has put in to make the Wesak Fair such a success.
Just goes to show what a committed group we are, coming together to make it work. It is a good sign of bigger and better things to come as everyone put aside their personal “fun” time to be part of the Fair and rightly they earned a night out.
Everybody especially the KH Comm, worked very hard towards making this event successful and what more can we wish for, a double rainbow on that evening! That was awesome and after a hardwork done, it is always nice to have an appreciation movie treat for all involved.
It is very kind of Rinpoche to be always thinking and appretiative of the volunteers. This is also good for the team spirit because all who have worked together gets to know each other better through leisure times such as this. Kudos to Kechara!
Rinpoche will personally selects gifts for individuals on most times as a way of showing appreciation of what they have contributed.
Another round of success for our Wesak Day Fair! Time really fly. Come to think of it, this is our 7th year. I still recalled vividly that in 2004, when we first acquired Kechara House 1 (KH1), and on Wesak day, before any renovation was done, Rinpoche went to bless the premises and gave a short Dharma talk at KH1. We had to bring in our own cushions or floor mats to sit on as literally it was an empty lot. From then on, every year, our Wesak day events grow bigger and bigger. This year is no exception, even a double rainbow appreared as a sign that our dear protector was extremely happy with the hard work of the KH and Wesak Fair committee members and volunteers. As Rinpoche said, many more auspicious signs will apprear in the near future for those who are committed to our organization.
I also want to say a BIG thank you to all the hard working committee, you guys rock and you all well deserved a night out to chill!!!
The Kh committee and volunteers were worked very hard to make this event successful from preparation by serching for contact for varities of activities, find sponsors, and in actual day to make sure all booths have enough of man power and everything run smooth, and helping in packing and clearing things after the fair.
Our Kechara House Wesak day fair getting bigger and better every year, there were many interesting acitivities which suit for the people whole family and there was the good response as there were many people who stay surround Sunway mas area come for participate. Well done.. and all are you are deserve it.
Oh! Wesak Day of 2010 will always be remembered for the twin rainbows, the huge outdoor carnival and the great sale of food, books and all manner of whatnots. Kechara House no matter how big it becomes will be nothing but an empty building if it wasn’t for its fantastic volunteers and hardworking staff.
Hence, in true Kechara House spirit, everyone is always remembered for their tremendous contribution towards the Dharma and in raising funds and offering of services. The movie they watched Toy Story 3 was also particularly apt for the storyline was basically about being true friends and never giving up on each other – in line with the true spirit of KH. I am proud to be Kecharian!

I still recall when Henry Ooi called me into KSA’s office and asked if I could volunteer for this event and the rest is history…
Armed with my friend, it was such a great time being part of the Bazaar Section of the Fair with the team there selling the second hand wares and it was personally a time used for observing my own mind and others in action. Our most enthusiastic ‘client’ was Ms Sabrina, a Kechara member, dubbed the ‘Platinum Member’ for she was our biggest client for second hand clothing!
It was a privilege to have been a part of Kechara’s Wesak Fair and this experience would not have been possible but for the support of Rinpoche, Henry Ooi, May Ong and the great Team.
As I felt that this appreciation outing was not what I deserved (as compared to the privilege of serving Kechara), I went for the Medicine Buddha Puja the same night instead and offered the merits to all who attended the appreciation movie, although I was in the KH2 puja that nite, nevertheless I was ‘with’ them in spirit LOL.

Rinpoche constantly reminds his students never take things for granted, always be grateful to all the people who have supported Kechara in one way or another. He not only teaches on this quality but also shows us through his own examples. No matter how late in the night, Rinpoche will always send food and drinks to people that volunteer in any of the 12 Kechara departments. If he knows of any one falls ill or needs help, be rest assured he will send his respresentatives to attend to the person immediately.
Out of this deep concern for all the people that he knows, Kechara Care (http://www.kechara.com/support/) is formed this year headed by none other than our Little Angel of Care , Su Ming.
KC will move into their new premise , few shops down the road from KH 2 this weekend. A fun filled party has been planned and everyone is welcome.
Thank you Rinpoche! Not only we got to collect merits and good Karma during Wesak day, we even get to have an Appreciation movie! The movie was very interesting! It teaches that you can’t be selfish or your friends will start to dislike you, don’t listen to strangers, Karma bites you back etc. It was basically about the toys trying to survive a day care because their owner is to old to play with them and the owner has to go to college. One of the toys get cocky because he can go to college. He loses all his friends as he still just wants to stay on one subject and dislikes taking other options. Then it is about their escape etc. I liked it when Rinpoche said, “People are important and everything must be appreciated. NOTHING MUST BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED” It is totaly true! I also would like to thank all of the other people who volunteered during the Wesak Fair. The rainbow was actually a double rainbow. It was beautiful as it just stopped raining then the rainbow popped our of nowhere!
What a wonderful initiative by Liaison Yoke Fui. The Wesak Fair was a tremendous success. This is the second year and the fair has much more variety in terms of activities and programmes. I look forward to a bigger and even more exciting fair next year. As in the tradition of Kechara, outings of such nature is always organised. It is an expression of thanks to hard working committee and volunteers and also a good time for bonding. Kechara Paradise, our dharma outlet, often organises outstation trips for all their staffs to relax and bond. Every staff’s birthday is also celebrated with a karaoke or a dinner. Whoever thinks that dharma work is boring and dry, come join us! FUN resonates in Kecharians bones and flows in our blood!!
Organizing events like Wesak Fair or Appreciation Movie Night for volunteers had been a really interesting exercise. Somehow it forces us to take a look at ourselves and to be both observant and critical simultaneously. Tiring hours, endless phone calls, coordinating team leaders, no volunteers at a particular stall, no sponsors, no food as they were all sold out by 7.30pm … It had been fun, exhilarating and self-reflecting.
One thing for sure is the “highly enthusiastic happy volunteers and strangers who helped” said to me, they had a wonderful time serving food or manning the stalls in site of confusion and chaos and wants to come back again in the following year. Now this is what I call “satisfaction” for work done. The point is, these “volunteers” loved to help others and they were happy. Happiness is truly derived from helping others.
These group movie nights are SUPER FUN! Rinpoche started this activity some years back, and personally took us to the movies..and the only movies we watched were HORROR movies! the Thai ones are good. Initially, I didn’t understand what’s the point of getting spooked (oh Rinpoche had in the past hide behind walls and jump out just to spook us),..I didn’t mind watching scary movies and used to watch Twilight Zone, my favorite as a kid.
Later, i learnt that fear is a manifestation of our egoistic mind..So the more fear we have, guess what…the more ego we have. Time to curb it!
All members and friends had always participated in all Kechara House events, getting involve from planning, preparation to execution with nothing left unattended.
This year’s Wesak Fair was extremely unforgettable as there was a very auspicious sign of a double rainbow appearing, a sign that Protector and local deities are happy with our activities to benefit others.
Everybody had worked hard in preparation for the fair. As a token of appreciation, after any major event, Kechara House had always treated all volunteers to dinner or movie in gratitude of the help and support rendered. In Kechara, we believe in working hard and playing hard the Kechara way!
Kechara House is like a lovely big family, a large and expanding family that is!
A family with its highs and its lows, but a family that always gets together eventually anyway, united in the same quest for happiness to oneself and to all. So there are times, when we get to work hard, parts when we get to celebrate, parts when we get to pray, parts when we get to think and organize, and parts when we get to relax… And that is also Dharma.
Who taught we could not go to the movies as part of a Dharma practice? Well, think again…
This year Kechara Wesak Fair turn out successful due to all the Kechara House committee, liaisons, friends and volunteers hard work. Pass two years; Kechara Wesak fair had bought so many people together to celebrate this meaningful days work for others and not ourselves. More and more people participial to the events to help out.
Rinpoche always teach us be grateful to those who help us and never take granted kindness of people. After event, we usually will have appreciation dinner or movie. Liaisons Yoke Fui has organized movie outing to appreciate the volunteer and KH committee’s hard work. Total 57 of them gather together at one Utama GSC cinema to watch movie “Toy story Part 3”. Everyone have fun like big family going for the movie.
It was very thoughtful of KH to host an outing to a movie called “Toy story 3″. This is to all KH members and non members who had volunteered in the Wesak Fair. Through my many years of association with Rinpoche. I have seen him show his gratitude to those who had help him and will never forget. KH has followed the way of doing things like Rinpoche. A small gesture of gratitude and kindness can go a long way. It can also be a lesson to all who received the gratitude and kindness to do the same for others in the same situation. This can also attract and influence for more help and volunteers in the future.
