Dharma Houses

Kechara has six Dharma houses – Vajrayogini House, Heruka House, Naropa House, Drakpa House, Tara House and Jamyang House. Their occupants are students of Kechara House, and all are full-time staff in Kechara.

Rinpoche set up the Dharma houses so that like-minded people could live together, to support each other in their spiritual practice. As he has said, "just like when I was living in Thubten Dhargye Ling dharma centre in the USA. I rented a room in the centre with other dharma students.I loved it so much…. It is supportive and happy atmosphere to be with other dharma students. To live in the dharma and work together in the dharma. Very meaningful life. So I started the same thing here. What is better than living with a group of ppl that are working towards the same goal as you spiritually and to have them and eachother as support."

So it's not compulsory to live in a Dharma house when you join Kechara…we just like to, because we like the people we're in Kechara with! Living in the Dharma Houses are:

———

Vajrayogini House – Mitra and his wife Anita share the house with Kechara Saraswati Arts staff Nani, Kumar, Durga and Min, as well as with KB who is Rinpoche's personal assistant.

Heruka House – Paul Yap (Head of Kechara Discovery and Kechara Saraswati Arts), David Lai (Kechara Media & Publications), Jace Chong (Kechara in Motion), Dr Hank and Monlam who is another of Rinpoche's personal assistants.

Drakpa House – JP Thong (Head Liaison of Tsem Ladrang) lives with Jamie Khoo (from Kechara Media & Publications), Justin Cheah (from Kechara Soup Kitchen) and Wendy Ho (from the household division of the Ladrang).

Tara House – Joy Kam (Rinpoche's personal assistant) lives with Justin Ripley and Fat Monk (both of Ladrang household division), and Wan (of Kechara Paradise).

Jamyang House
– Yek Yee (Kechara Media & Publications) lives with Chia Song Peng (Kechara Paradise), JJ Chong (Ladrang's household division), Becky Yap (Kechara Saraswati Arts) and Shin Tan (Ladrang e-Division).

———

My name is Jean Ai, and I live in Naropa House with Chris (from Kechara inMotion), James (Ladrang marketing, PR and gifts), Su Ming (Ladrang marketing, PR and gifts…and James' boss!) and Beng Kooi (Ladrang E-division and my boss!).

I haven't lived in a Dharma house for very long, just over half a year since I returned from London. At the time, I didn't consider moving into a Dharma house – I was happy to move back home with my parents – but after talking to Beng, I began to see the benefits of living in one.

It's a lot of fun living with the people you spend day in and day out with. You'd think it would drive you crazy but it doesn't – like Rinpoche intended, it's great for support, and encourages us to stop thinking of Dharmic activities as work, and to start thinking of it as a way of living. In my case, I work with Beng and I live with Beng – in the real world, Beng would be my boss but in Dharma, she is also my friend. And because we get to hang out outside of the e-Division, we end up working better together because I can see Beng's not a monster trying to make my life difficult when we're back in the Ladrang!!

Living in a Dharma house reminds you that actually, every single moment is a Dharma moment. How can I get annoyed at someone at work, and then come home and still be annoyed with them? It's just easier (and less tiring!) to learn how to forgive…and then, learn how to not become annoyed at all so that in the end, I'm happy both at work and at home. So if given the chance to live in one, I'd suggest you take it! ~~(Wonderful write up on dharma houses by Jean Ai!! Thank you !!)

I asked intelligent Jean Ai to do this write up and describe the dharma houses so I can blog with pictures of her room. She writes very well and explained the purpose clearly….

Later we are building on our own land and we will have many apts available for dharma staff. So this is just a prelude of things to come. To get people ready for the real dharma living later.

I've always like the spiritual community living like Findhorn (http://www.findhorn.org/index.php?tz=-480) in Scotland.  When I read of Findhorn over three decades back, it really appealed to me. I've always wanted that type of environment. And I wish to create it here and I will. It will be a wonderful supportive community with many of our spiritual depts available on the premises as well as open to visitors. We will have lots of activities like flower arranging, yoga, tai chi, painting, meditation, philosophy classes, etc etc. People really need this today.

(Jean Ai, thanks for such a nice write up and post)

Very inspiring to see how you live and work all together. Beautiful altar!

That is so nice! It is good everyone gets along. Is it easier than running a large monastery where everyone lives close together?

Living with one’s boss…I shudder at that thought… LOL

BLISS HAS A NEW HOME. The modern sangha is young, hip, fun and uber cool. They stay together in their own Dharma Houses, support and nurture each other. What a beautiful way to live and work. Dharma House is a platform that unites, nurtures and enriches.

Well, coming from one of the Dharma Houses, it really feels like home whenever we get back together. We talk, joke and humor ourselves with each other making the environment more of a resting and chilling out place for people to be in after our day’s work in our respective departments.
For Jamyang House, we have a monthly outing together with all our housemates whereby we go for a dinner, movie, karaoke session or even come over to Ladrang for a meal and chat.
It is awesomely fun when we get to care for another person besides our family as we learn how to extend our care and help in times of need. Many times when I fall sick, my sister Shin, Yek Yee or Becky would take me to the clinic to have me treated.
Rest assured Rinpoche’s way of training and nurturing us works.
Recently, Jean Ai moved into her new room in Naropa House, I helped her to move in and she’s cute, bubbly and friendly. Look at her new room which I took pictures of when the workers were fixing up furnitures for her room

rinpoche advised me to move into a Dharma house about 3 years back. being the spoilt little princess brat that i was (and you can read all about the diva antics in my book), I wasn’t too keen on the idea at first – but but but, who will do my laundry? and do you mean I’ll have to clean my own room? you mean now i have to save money and pay rent?!
It has been the most rewarding thing I’ve done since coming back to KL after school/university. For me, in particular, (spoilt rich bitch that I was), moving into a Dharma house was a lesson in independence, responsibility and humility. it was a precious lesson to learn and once that I’ve really treasured.
the moment I moved into a Dharma house, my commitment and involvement in my practice also became stronger. Just being in an environment where everyone else is doing the same thing as you, on the same path towards something higher and better is drive enough to make you want to do more for your spiritual practice.
the funny thing is that I hardly see my housemates (I’m in Drakpa House) because we are all so busy running around doing things, involved in activities, running departments…It’s quite funny actually – we joke about how we see each other around the centre more than at home!
But what I have found most supportive and wonderful about being in a house like this is that you know there is always this young, dynamic Dharma family behind you. There have been many moments when I’ve felt down, for example, or stuck in a rut or frustrated about a particular situation – it’s nice to just run into JP’s room, flop down on his bed and chat for hours about different things – life, dharma, ups, downs, the fun things and new news of the organisation, Dharma gossip!
It is nice that sometimes, as I’m pottering around in the living room doing work, one of the others will come back and talk about what they’ve been up to in their department. It is such an embracing experience to always be surrounded and live with people who you know are totally dedicated to making the lives of others better – very enriching, uplifting and encouraging, pushing you towards a good direction.
Everything that rinpoche advised me about moving to a Dharma house has turned out exactly true. Another most important thing that rinpoche told me is that conversely, by moving out, my relationship with my parents would get better. Now, my relationship with them is better than ever and i am closer to them than ever before. Instead of being dependent on them, or even getting irritated by them by living in the same house with them, I have learnt to appreciate time with them so much more; their minds are more relaxed now knowing that I’m okay, independent and happy; and our relationship has become less like parent-child and more like true friends.
So, by moving out, what I’ve actually gained now is TWO close families – my blood one and my Dharma one. Thank you Rinpoche for making this possible, and helping us to create this cause to be a real Sangha, in all senses.

When Rinpoche wanted me to move into a Dharma house more than 2 years ago, I really couldn’t understand why. I was living with my parents ten minutes away from Tsem Ladrang where I work and I didn’t see the point of finding another accommodation. My parents’ house is no five star hotel but I have lived there all my life and was very comfortable staying there. Honestly, I didn’t want to move to anywhere. However, I have come to a point where I know I had to follow what my guru says although I may not be able to understand the rational behind it. I believed Rinpoche knew better and would not ask me to do anything without a good reason. Anyways, what does Rinpoche get by making me move into a Dharma house. Now that I look back, staying in a Dharma does have positive effects. My parents has become less protective of me which was the source of many arguments in the past. They worry less for me and became less protective as they realize I can live on my own independently. It has given my parents a peace of mind knowing that. I think living in a Dharma house is one of the best things I have done for my parents. I can now see Rinpoche’s wisdom of asking me to move into a Dharma house.

I’ve always dreamed about living in a community – like a long house – maybe I’m a hippy at heart! Living in a spiritual community would be even more special. I love Rinpoche’s idea for us to live in Dharma houses and I am looking forward to the future when Kecharians can all stay together in the same building or area. I know some people would think – wouldn’t we get bored of each other. Strangely enough, no. I don’t get bored of seeing my Dharma colleagues all day and the funny thing is that in the evenings, we’ll ask each other if we want to go out for dinner or go to the movies together! And when we’re traveling, we find that we miss each other. Guess that’s what happens when we’re family! *suddenly has Sister Sledge singing in her mind!*

  9. Elena on Jul 5, 2010 at 9:02 pm

It’s not easier, and it’s not more difficult. I think it just is what it is, and it is what you make of it (if that makes any sense!).
We still face the same issues that every group of people living together have to face. We still gotta deal with nightmare landlords, with housemates whose standards of tidiness don’t match up with ours, with confusion over paying for utility bills, with decisions about what movie we want to watch on the TV.
It all depends on how much maturity you have when you approach a situation. Issues aren’t personal until you let them become personal. So when someone asks me to clean up after myself, I stop and think – are they attacking me, or are they just asking me to clean up after myself because my mess is becoming an inconvenience?
It just means you have to practise the Six Paramitas every single day, to make sure your living environment is harmonious.

I had stayed at the Jamyang House almost 3 years. Stayed at dharma house have so much significant, is like preview of sangha community stay at the monastery. When Kechara World Peace centre is up, eventually all the dharma house members will move up to KWPC building at the future. Dharma house also creating the cause indirectly to have more ordained sangha in Kechara organization.
Dharma housemates have to encourage looking after each other. We must harmony and unite together, care and help for each other. When argument start, we had to seated down patiently to dissolve our problem. Learn how to take responsibility make peace with our housemate.

Rinpoche not only asked students to move out from their comfortable parents house to stay in Dharma house and just throw them away. Rinpoche is very kind to find out what they need and he sponsored it. In the past rinpoche has sponsored wadrobes, tables, alters, fridge, airconds etc and whatever neccessary to different students. Rinpoche has endless love and caring to everyone.
Everytime when the new Dharma house form, Rinpoche will take some students with him to shopping at the convenience store near by the house at midnite and bought a lot lot of snack, milk, biscuit etc give to them to share their house.
Some time Rinpoche will come to visit and ‘spot check’ us to make sure we stay in good condition and happy.
Rinpoche, Thank you to create a cause for us to stay together in KWPC.

I’ve said it before, but it just needs to be said again… I LOVE this idea. I am so happy to see that people come so close together for the Dharma. I would die to live in a place where Dharma is so easily infused into every aspect of my life.
Also, I cannot wait for KWPC to come up! I pray nightly for it’s construction and opening and hope to come and see it someday. It seems like there are so many causes being created for it every day that theres no doubt it will benefit a ton of people.

    Terima Kasih Rinpoche!
After reading the comments of those who are residents in these places, it is certainly great to know that it’s all about being in a family although coming from diverse backgrounds, all are united in spirit and in purpose and unlike the secular employment where the ugly demolition mode/’divide and conquer’ mentality goes on, here, they support, care and look out for each other, physically and spiritually. With the prime example of care and commitment set by Rinpoche Himself, it is indeed a cause for rejoicing and emulation of this closely knitted Dharma community. Sadhu!

  15. margaretlee on Jul 7, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Dharma houses is one of Rinpoche’s many ideas of pormoting and spreading Dharma in this 21st century. Since the inception of the fist Dharma House, we now have 6 in total.
Dharma houses are perfect for young single individuals or couples who have taken Dharma either as a career or as their spiritual journey. Once you are living in a Dharma house, you are like riding in a bullet train to enlightenment. You will work, eat and live with all your Dharma friends . You will have much less distraction from the mundane world and in this way, your Dharma realization from living and supporting each other will be greater and faster.
Rinpoche is paving way for such a Dharma community to manifest in our Kechara World Peace Centre(KWPC). Imagine among the jungle greens are our Dharma houses, we do prayers, pujas, retreats together, studying and learning together . How wonderful! We can even play hide and seek there one day!!! Dharma can be fun!!!

Thank you for the lovely information about the Dharma Houses. I previously thought that the Dharma Houses were just a place to stay. Now, I understand who lives there and what they do for the great Kechara Organization. Thank you to Aunty Jin Ai for the beautiful description of your Dharma House. I wish to stay in one of the few Dharma houses when I grow up so I can be closer to the Dharma Center. I think it would be better if Kechara could buy a few sets of apartment blocks for the current tenants of the Dharma Houses as it could save more money and the Dharma houses are scattered in one neighborhood so I find it difficult to tell which one is which!

  17. Yokefui on Jul 8, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Reading the comments on dharma houses bring back memories of my first experience of living away from home when I went to study in New Zealand.
At first I was filled with doubts and anxiety as the day of leaving home to go to a strange place drew nearer. My parents were happy and sad at the same time.
I was lucky to meet caring housemates in my first year and we stayed together until I graduated and returned to Malaysia. During the 3 years there, my housemates were like my family and our bond was so strong that it continued till today.
I agree that living away from home is the first step to adulthood. One learns to live with others harmoniously and take responsibilities for oneself as well as others.
Rinpoche’s dharma houses are more than the above because they are a prelude to sangha communal living at KWPC. The young people that stay in Kechara dharma houses now will be the pioneers in our Retreat Institution.

When Rinpoche asked me to move to Drakpa House 2 years ago, I was very worried that my parents would object and we’d end up having a huge fight. The few times I told my mother that I wanted to move out (this is before I met Rinpoche) because I was having too many fights with my father at home, she would tell me to stay home because they are getting old. The guilt always stopped me.
Without breaking Rinpoche’s instructions, I inched out of my parent’s house slowly. I started off by staying 1 night a week in Drakpa House, then 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and finally the entire week. Without my parents realising it, I finally moved in to Drakpa House. I’ve never regretted it ever since.
I noticed that my relationship with my parents improved tremendously like what Rinpoche said. We never had an arguments ever since I moved out. We actually have more decent conversations now. I guess the psychology behind it is that when we stay with our parents, they will forever treat us like kids. It’s not good for them because they will always be worried of us. It’s also not good for us because we’re always subconsciously dependent on our parents to take care of our domestic needs. As Rinpoche always say, we then become Mama’s boy and girls. Both parties must learn to let go of each other, then our relationships will improve.

OMG I cannot believe that I totally missed reading the comments in this blog post. This blog post is so beautiful, touching and moving! Every one of you shared your own personal story and all of them made me cry.
All of you have been so selfless and tireless in serving the rest of us, and we do not even know it. Half of the time, we are expecting to be given the royal treatment and we don’t even appreciate as much as we should. I deeply apologise for my own ignorance and lack of gratitude.
What I really treasure about all of you is the strong sense of ‘family’ and community. A beautiful place does not make it a home, it is the people. Each of you have touched my life in more ways than one and made such a huge impact in the person I am becoming. I hold such high regard for each and every one of you.
I cannot thank each and every one of you enough for making such a big difference in my life, in your own special way. I can only say that your progress as a spiritual person, and Dharma friend is a testament to our Guru’s greatness.
I am so glad that Rinpoche shared your stories here. Every Kecharian should read and be totally inspired by all of you. I know I am.
I thank each and every one of you from the depth of my heart. You are all my Sangha.
May I join you all soon.

I still remember 2 ½ years ago, within a span of a year, I moved 3 different houses that year and for those who knows me well, I do not travel light! And I hate moving.
When I started working for Dharma full time in Jan 2008. I moved back to my mom’s house. Rinpoche was very encouraging and shortly after that Rinpoche suggested that I should move to one of the dharma houses, Naropa house to be precise, as there was a vacancy. And Rinpoche felt that my energy will suit the other dharma students there. At that time, I did not thought much about it but I was like ..hmmmm for Rinpoche to event suggest, it must be very beneficial in a long term. Therefore, I said yes and within a span of 3-5 days I was already staying a Naropa House with Beng Kooi, Shin, James and Chris as my housemate. Our latest addition in 2010, was my dharma sister Jean Ai. And Rinpoche was right, our energy was compatible.
On top of this, like Paris, my relationship with my mom got better. And I’m sure more good things will come out of this.
The lesson to be learnt here is to totally trust your guru as he sees the bigger picture which we can’t.
    Thank u

  21. Wan Wai Meng on Jul 9, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Rinpoche started the Dharma Houses phenomenon a few years ago and Dharma Houses are where several students come together to live and stay together. Some of the reasons I could think of would be it would enable all these dharma practitioners to come together and to make a dharma community for themselves and to get along, learn responsibility, for them to be more independent from the people who have been taking care of them etc.
Doing dharma in the age of Kali Yuga age is not easy at all, so many distractions, so many things that create even more delusions for you to deal with. Hence the Dharma Houses is likened to be like ‘Safe Houses’, to help and provide support for dharma students who are headed towards the same spiritual path. It’s not like we started off with a clean slate like a newborn, we came with a ton of delusional baggage upon entering this life. When they live within Dharma houses, they can provide support for one another.

This is a very wonderful to see all happy Kecharian living and working together in Dharma houses.

Most people take things for granted when they are living with their parents. This is a good way to foster relationships with both people who are related to one another and with with non-relations. It also allows one to be tolerant with others and get to understand others behaviour and also understanding there is no right or wrong way if one cultivates a ‘respect others’ way.

  24. Anila on Oct 15, 2010 at 6:27 pm

People who live in Dharma houses are Rinpoche’s students who share houses with their dharma brothers and sisters. To me I think its also a training house for people who work for any of the 12 Kechara Departments to live independently away from their families. The mama boys and girls will be transformed by Rinpoche’s method. Rinpoche has been staying in Dharma house in the U.S. and is now introducing it here. Some of Rinpoche’s students come from well to do families. There are 7 Dharma houses with a new addition of the recent one called Setrap House. They are Heruka House, Jamyang House, Drakpa House, Tara House and Vajrayogini House.

Rena Wong (6 months) 8. Lilyn Tan (6 months) I am so incredibly happy to get the news. It is very rewarding when some take the teachings to heart and some positive action arises as a result. I congratulate those 8 people who have developed compassion and enough awareness. They have put their attachments for meat aside for spiritual attainments. Tsem Rinpoche

Difference: Rinpoche’s life in Los Angeles is HIGHLY INSPIRATIONAL. More people should know about it. Kechara should do more to promote and educate everyone on who Tsem Rinpoche was before he took ordination. It is a teaching that will apply to so many materialistic people like myself. Kechara should really do alot more to promote the biography and background of Tsem Rinpoche since you have Rinpoche with you and you can gather any information you require and you have the writers/resources. If Kechara does not promote who will? All Kechara staff and students should know Tsem Rinpoche’s background perfectly and speak about it with others. I am so touched and inspired by Rinpoche’s growing up years and I know thousands upon thousands more would be also. Kechara should do more to promote. Not many people know about Rinpoche’s background. My thoughts to everyone. Don’t you all think so?

It is a WONDERFUL IDEA to start your day by reading one story from the 84 Mahasiddhas. They are very inspirational as they started out just like us, but changed and took responsibility and became attained thru sheer effort realizing the futility of life’s endeavours… I use to read their stories in Gaden and it would bring torrents of tears to my eyes. They touched me deeply especially their guru devotion. I wanted to be like that.. Wonderful habit to cultivate every morning upon waking is some dharma reading, then do Tsongkapa guru yoga, migtseyma and then start your day..You will be ready for anything…TR Mahasiddhas-Must bookmark this page: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=23941

Willow Creek is the exact type of town I would love to live in…trees, mountains, rivers.l would set up a house there, big altar, butterlamp house and make lots of offerings and do retreats there and lots of dharma readings. Having bigfoot nearby is just an extra treat. But I wouldn’t move therer for bigfoot-I like the environment..In Tibet Domo Geshe Rinpoche use to meditate in secluded caves and when he gained attainments, Yetis which is Himalayan bigfoots visited him giving him special milk where he made healing pills that were so powerful even the 13th Dalai Lama and Panchen Lamas wanted those pills. Domo Geshe was famous to have association with yetis and they never harmed him, but would drop milk off at his cave and go…I would love to live at Willow Creek so much. I love places like this. If I didn’t have Kechara, I would move there immediately and live there. But I will visit for sure. Will take a group with me. I want to go very much!! Willow Creek is a town in Northern California. This town has the most reported cases of bigfoot sightings. From Willow Creek you go to Bluff Creek where the most famous Patterson-Gimlin film of a genuine bigfoot was walking back in the 60′s was filmed…it is the most famous footage that no one can debunk till today….Willow Creek is so green, full of mountains and beautiful rivers. I will definitely take a group with me and visit one day..I love forests and Northern California..so beautiful.. I don’t want to look for bigfoot, but the whole town is a total mecca for bigfoot enthusiasts with shops and small museums. I would like to go to just enjoy the scenery, the mountains and forests. And see the bigfoot scene.. I would love to live there for sure. Who wants to go with me?? Imagine if I was real lucky and got to live solitary in a place like this??? Imagine if my cabin was near the shore of this lake without many people around? Imagine I have my dharma books and beautiful Buddha shrine and can live here away from the delusions, false dreams, fake promises and false hopes of this world that I never believed from day one anyways??? If I should be so lucky to be in such a living environment in this all future lives... Tsem Rinpoche

Dear friends, This is a well made Paranormal real life story. Nothing scary in this episode, but very powerful show of love and willpower. I want you to please watch this carefully and see how a mother reaches out to save her child. Her will was so strong she left her body. The child saw a light leaving the mother and going to the road although she died and 'found' people to save her child. Very touching and beautiful story. This is what I believe happened, what do you think? http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31937

I knew of a lady who when she went to bed at night, she would feel unseen hands touch her body and disturb her sleep. This happened many times. She sought help from many places without relief. When she saw me, I gave her Singdongma. She invited a statue home, set up a shrine for Her and did Singdongma's mantra/prayer daily. The unseen hands stopped disturbing her & this was ten years ago. She does her prayer daily to Singongma till now: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31904

Dear all, every week I am informed of a death and to offer prayers. This week I was informed of four deaths. With death, everything is almost final and if we didn't do dharma genuinely, we would have regrets. Death is such a omnipresent and frightening stalker. Realize it will come for you one day soon and go all the way with dharma, dharma practice, dharma work and gain realizations. At death, the dharma you have is the only hope. Anything else acquired in life is a total waste of time. Please realize and wake up. Don't procrastinate and keep yourself 'busy' with activities that are empty at the time of death. Our minds will continue at death and what supports that journey is our good merits and attainments collected during our lives. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear Rinpoche, Bryan and I do so much less than what Rinpoche does. When people are asleep Rinpoche's working, when people are awake Rinpoche's working. Not many people in Kechara realize that Rinpoche works the hardest in the entire organization. I didn't know before joining Ladrang. Although Rinpoche may want to go around to pray for people in need, one day I want to able to do this instead of Rinpoche. It is quite taxing and Rinpoche can't be going out of Haven 24 hours to pray for the dying/dead. I'm happy Pastor Yek Yee and Pastor Susan wanted to come today, they really are awesome Pastors. Thank you, Jean Mei

Dear TR,  We have just collected Tashi's ashes. Our Nirvana agent who named May is a very nice lady, she is in her 40+, she is a Buddhist and a Mandarin speaker. She follow us thru out the whole session. May also bought us drinks and settle everything for us.  I have share with her about KH, TR and some other departments we have in Kechara. She is interested in KH. I will arrange with her to come and visit KH and various departments soon. The couple is sending us back home and we will go and get a stupa for Tashi's ashes. Have asked them to go back and rest after this. From Bryan

Thank you, Jean Mei (This morning at the funeral for baby Tashi, we bought baby items to be placed into his casket and cremated together. Dear all,  It's 9:30 AM. I just walked into the house after being in the hospital and then going to finish a funeral for a baby of a student. I have just conducted two funerals in the last 24 hours. The second funeral was for a baby. I had Jean Mei, Bryan, Seng Piow, Pastor Susan, Pastor Yekyee, Lew with me. Pastor Susan and Yekyee really wanted to come and learn. I am glad they made the effort.  We conducted a simple funeral by reciting holy verses, sprinkling holy water onto the baby, protector rice and scattered blessed fresh rose petals all over the baby. Afterwards I had a nice conversation about the baby's mind taking rebirth. Upon leaving the father and father's mother gave me a very warm hug of thanks and support during this most saddest of times for them...and the wife was happy and looked visibly relieved. She let go alot and let go of her guilt after we talked.. I have sent Bryan and Jean Mei with the family to cremate the baby this morning at 11AM It will take two hours and then we can bring the ashes home. Part of the ashes will be in a large stupa. All of us are extremely exhausted but did very good work. That is what Kechara is about. I am very happy we can help the baby and family along their way. When they called, they sounded extremely desperate as it was very late with no one to help them. We were very honoured to help them. I didn't call Pastor Yekyee and Pastor Susan heard, they immediately wanted to join me. Now with no sleep after baby Tashi's funeral, they went to Kechara to give dharma classes. I am proud of them and my assistants who wanted to help all last night until this morning. It is wonderful to give it all we can for others. That is what Kechara is about. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,

I have received some update from Gaden regarding Justin Ripley's ashes.

Monastery have done a whole day of Vajrayogini Daju and Ruchok this Sunday, this is for Rinpoche's previous life and current life students who passed away recently: Geshe Ngawang and Justin Ripley.

Monastery is now in the middle making Tsa Tsa out from Geshe Ngawang's ashes. After they finish, monastery start to make Tsa Tsa out from Justin's ashes.

Monastery will use Justin's ashes and make a few different type of Tsa Tsa:

1) Chenrezig, Manjushri and Vajrapani Tsa Tsa

2) White Tara, Amitayus and Nagyalma Tsa Tsa

3) small stupa Tsa Tsa

I have asked monastery to mail us few Tsa Tsa after finish, this will be place inside KFR big VY stupa.

Thanks
Bryan (Justin Ripley's ashes has been made into holy Buddha tsatsas {as in picture} to gain more merits for him). We love Justin.

When we trust, practice and go all the way with the tantric path of Vajra Yogini, we have nothing to worry about. All the worries both worldly and spiritual will be solved. We should surrender to Vajra Yogini's blessing by being our best. We just set up this wonderful statue of Buddha Vajra Yogini in our library area. How beautiful She is. Buddha Vajra Yogini is special deity for those overwhelmed by laziness, miserliness and want easy practice but big results. May all of you be blessed to see Her holy image. Kechara Discovery Dept of our orgazination does such wonderful images available for the public. I am very happy as She is beautiful. Thank You Kechara Discovery! Tsem Rinpoche

When I first arrived in Malaysia in 1992 I had a group of people who would sponsor my tickets, stay and for many years sponsor much needed help in Gaden. One of them was Ms Mooi Lan who lives in Cheras. She has been a great supporter for the last 20 years and in the past sponsor. I recieved very sad news she passed away this morning at 4Am. I request all my students to please light a candle for her to take good rebirth and come across the dharma again. Offer the candle to Buddha Dukkar..that is the Buddha I assigned to her many years ago and she diligently practiced and set up a shrine to Dukkar.. I will miss her and never forget her kindness. Many of the things I wanted to do in the past she generously helped. Tsem Rinpoche ( see here http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=4354 )

Heruka! We say we want to improve yet we don't hold our vows. We promise to keep our samaya, yet our promise to our earlier promises laxed. We want to experience only good results yet we hold onto our face. We want wealth, yet we give nothing. We want success, yet we offer tiny offerings to the Three Jewels. We say we have great faith in our Guru, yet when his assignments are difficult we run. We say we want a good rebirth yet all our actions are motivated by self gain. Heruka, Heruka, Heruka, how are we to recieve your blessings when our three doors are closed tightly by selfishness, ignorance and anger?~Tsem Rinpoche

I haven't lived in Gaden since 1992 when I was sent to Malaysia. I love Gaden and loved so much living there. I like so many things about Gaden. Conversations would not be lonely and easy. Whatever I talk about the monks immediately understand. I do not have to face 'opposition' , doubts, hundreds of questions, and every detail simple about the dharma or dharma work has to be explained. I miss that so much. I am not lonely for company, but I am lonely for familiarity very much. I was very content, at peace and in my element in Gaden. I never knew or imagined I would have to go to Malaysia, stay and take on heavy responsibilities. I am not complaining but I love Gaden, the monks, my teachers, the great masters, the senior monks whom I have many friends. I miss them so much. So so much. I love and respect the great old monks, Rinpoches and spectacular Geshes. Gaden was a city of practitioners and I was home. Lord Tsongkapa's presence pervades the whole Gaden. TR

Dear all, I gave a talk on desire to a few inclusive of Paris and David. I asked David and Paris to write up the talk on their blogs. My plan was after they write it, I'll link it to my blog. From my blog people will click to their blog to read the write up and benefit many who read the talk. Paris did a very good write up and did not miss the subtle points I was expressing that night. She really took the time and effort to write it...I was happy to see she wrote exaclty as I expressed. Effort pays off usually or eventually. I am happy to see there are 669 views (43 comments) already going back to Paris' blog to read the teachings. The teachings will be benfit many. Must save and read again and again. Must share with others...Must contemplate. You want dharma, I am giving it to you and Paris wrote it out perfectly. Bryan gave me an incredible MOTHER'S DAY GIFT. It is so auspicious. He had someone draw HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche's sacred face onto the body of Buddha Vajradharma. Buddha Vajradharma is the form Buddha takes to teach the immaculate and fautless tantra of Vajra Yogini. In Vajra Yogini's tantra and meditations, you must visualize your guru in the form of Vajradharma to make offerings both inner, outer & secret offerings daily to one's tantric guru & to meditate on Him in that form. It is very integral part of the practice. If you do the meditations well on your guru in this particular form during the practice of the sadhana..you can gain tremendous realizations and control over one's mind to leave the body when you want. So getting this picture today was an omen if Kecharians fulfill their responsibilities, then Vajra Yogini's practice will spread in this region. Very good omen. I feel this strongly. Bryan really planned out this gift & surprised me!! I will put in Chamang Ladrang in the future. THANK YOU BRYAN!!TR

Back in New Jersey over 30 years ago, there lived a lady down the street who was also a student of my teacher. Her name is Carmen (she is a nun now and her ordination name is: Ani Thupten). She had a nice size library of books and many dharma books. I loved the Dharma books!! I would spend so much time browsing and getting snippets of each book from Carmen. I use to ride by bike down to chat with her and borrow her books and it took me like 5 mins by bike..She lived on the same street. I would read dharma books voraciously and write down my questions. I would call Carmen almost daily for years to ask her to clarify the readings I had questions on. She would spend hours on a phone with me answering questions never once losing patience. I learned so much from her. She had vast dharma knowledge, very devoted to our teacher and would do her meditations and extensive sadhanas daily. She would join in all the dharma classes and pujas at our nearby Kalmuck Buddhist Temple. She was such a good dharma friend and I enjoyed her company very much. I wanted to be like her to have the freedom to study and practice dharma. When I recievd my first initiation by our teacher at the temple, Carmen sat right next to me on the front row. Thrilling!! After initiation we would have ten days of explanations (commentary) from our teacher His Eminence Kensur Losang Tharchin Rinpoche. I was so excited and deeply happy to get commentary from our great and knowledgable teacher. What I did not understand, I would of course consult Carmen who is much more advanced and taught me patiently after each day’s teachings. Around 15 years ago Carmen came to India and I travelled with her to holy Bodhgaya, Varanasi and Dharamsala. I escorted her to these places. Since then I have not met up with her. But I know she is fine. Around two years back I sent her a three foot Vajra Yogini statue as a gift from me. Carmen received the statue and was very happy. It was my offering to her for so much kindness shown me when I was a child. I wish so much she can visit Malaysia. She would be happy. We all want to be a part of something big and with good results. But the only way we can be a part of that is if we work hard together with the other members of our Kechara. The time will pass. It can pass with you taking on difficulties or it can pass with you doing nothing. I feel it's better to work hard now and enjoy later than to enjoy nothing now and then end up nowhere later. Prayers and dedications are ok, but hard work must be part of the prayer. Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness the Dalai Lama seated here with His sacred mother. A mother who gives birth to great beings like Shakyamuni, Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, Trijang Rinpoche, etc must be a Buddha Herself, a highly realized Dakini, a powerful practitioner, or a lady who made prayers in previous lives to provide others with great dharma in one way or another. A lady of great spiritual merit or virtue.. I wanted to share this photo with you because if I ever met His Holiness' mother, I would prostrate to Her immediately. Beautiful picture. His Holiness is not ordinary for sure and neither could a being who gave birth to Him. Tibetans always said she was very saintly, gentle, simple and deeply spiritual. During Her lifetime many went to recieve Her blessings..Tsem Rinpoche

It's very revealing how when you give, offer and have something for them, they crowd around smiling, happy and easy. The minute you ask them to give something, contribute or really help out, they totally disappear. Handphones shut. No replies. No sound. As if you they never knew you. People like that make themselves 2nd rate, find 1st rate people to work with and move on. Recently I encountered some students like that!~ Tsem Rinpoche

Wesak Day May 5, 2012 at Kechara House. I gave refuge to 100 new persons last night. TR

Last night between 300-400 persons congregated at Kechara while I gave a talk to them on 'making a choice' and 'the power and purpose of stupas'. The talk has been taped and will be blogged once tape is ready. The talk was two hours and it flowed well for me although I had very little sleep. Towards the end of the talk I gave refuge vows to 100 new persons from different countries for this. When everything was done, I met up with a group of 15 and 5 from Shanghai. Had a nice dharma talk with them on how to make a centre grow and harmony. Passed out nice dharma gifts to all the visitors so they don't go home empty handed. Also seperately met some directors and movie producers that attended the talk and sought private time with me..these producers and directors are very well known locally. One is from Hong Hong. Got home around 5Am and saw so many gifts from people. Did a Manjushri dedication for all the people who offered gifts to me on Wesak day in gratitude. Also some people from Europe called in to Kechara to arrange flowers to be given to me last night. That was very sweet. I have so many flowers now..over 70 bouquets I would...guess. They have all been offered up on the shrine. Thank you. TR (May 5, 2012)

Karma exists and created constantly by our actions. Karma created in the past is fertile and will open up when the situation arises. We should never relax and think everything will be alright when there is so much volatile latent karma like a huge volcano temporarily dormant. We can do something about it though. We can 'manipulate' karma and here's how: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/kechara-13-depts/what-are-pujas-about-do-take-a-good-read.html

This picture of myself was taken in December 1987 in Kathmandu, Nepal. I was around 25 years old and I had just taken my ordination vows a few weeks ago from His Holiness Dalai Lama. I was a fresh and new monk that time. Shortly after this picture was taken, I travelled to South India to join with Gaden Monastery. Tsem Rinpoche

See the beautiful prayer flags fluttering behind me blessing the environment...Our Datuk May, Martin, Joe and Jeffrey did such a good job. Thank you team. Your work here has just started. The four of you will create something powerful and blessed here for thousands of people to come and get blessed. I am so happy for you. If we always do not understand Dharma, then that is a sign of not studying. If we always blame Dharma, it is a sign we do not know what dharma really is. If we always expect of the Dharma, then we are using Dharma in ineffective methods. If we find Dharma difficult, then it is because we are unwilling to accept it. If we give up the Dharma, we are get deeper into our sufferings without respite. If we complain about Dharma it is a sign we are looking for blame in the wrong places and not within ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,
SO FANTASTIC! Me staring at rainbow. Love dm
****(April 22, 2012-Sunday-Kechara is very lucky. Many times when we are about to embark on something really beneficial or just finished something very good, we will often times witness a rainbow and there is no rain or clouds.Today again at KECHARA FOREST RETREAT after they finished their work in the evening another clear rainbow appeared in the clear sky reported to me by Datuk May and ten other Kecharians volunteering there today. See the beautiful picture of the rainbow...TR)

I prostrate to my Guru the consummate Lojong master who teaches us how to laugh at death by creating right causes n how to regret n cry at death by doing stupid things. Exciting indeed that we can do either.
I rather die w natural smile than a fake one made up by the embalmers.
Thank you for reminding we hv choice.
Gratefully yours
