Valentina Suhendra is a devoted and sincere Indonesian lady whom I had met in 2006. It was the year before that when she came to Malaysia for one of her business trips. She came across one of our Kechara Paradise outlets and has since taken the personal initiative to spread the Dharma in any way that she can.

She is a highly intelligent woman. Holding two professional certifications: Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), she has worked in several industries within roles such as: Project Manager, IT Auditor, Internal Auditor, Business Process Consultant and Business Continuity Management Consultant. These are just to name a few!

At the same time, she runs several charity projects in Indonesia, including an orphanage renovation and maintenance programme, a student sponsorship programme, and animal welfare promotional activities.

Despite the fact that she currently works for one of the big four accounting firms – since meeting her, she has started a website (http://www.lamatsongkhapa.com) with her friend Betsy, began Kechara Soup Kitchen activities in Jakarta and is now working towards building a Kechara Information Center!!

This blog post will provide updates for Kechara Information Center construction… until the day of completion! Valentina will be sending in regular updates.

I am so proud of Valentina to get this whole place together and personally sponsored the renovation, with the support of her family.

Do return to this blog post time and time again. I rejoice for Kechara’s first information center in Indonesia!

24 July 2011

Valentina:

I have made the first payment for the construction on 17 June 2011.  Several days later, the construction commenced. The steel construction took longer than the expected three weeks.  One of the reasons was a change of plans based on a discussion with the contractor, Pak Ngurah. I have decided to increase the steel quality from WR 150 to WR200 so that the mezzanine is able to bear the weight of heavy objects and to stand firm in the event of earthquake. I have made the second payment yesterday (23 July 2011).

This morning, I visited the Pejaten shelter where the steel construction took place.  The steel has been coated to prevent any possible corrosion.  The contractor and his team are in the setting process now. Once the setting process is completed (approximately 2 weeks), the steel will be brought to the future location of Kechara Information Center to be reconstructed.

This week will be busy as we have to clean up the location. Previously, I had also used this location to store used clothes that was collected from our KSK friends prior to food distribution.  My father also has his conquest of washing machines, refrigerators, air condition stored in this location. My father has a unique hobby of purchasing microwaves, washing machines, air condition, refrigerators and sometimes toilet bowls in his leisure time!

The next step will be to separate and sort out clean, used clothes and toys for our clients from last week.  Tomorrow, I will take a-one-day leave from my office, and we will start distributing the used clothes to the intended recipients (70 families in all – each family has around 4-9 children on average).  This entire process should be completed within this week.  My father will start moving his things next Saturday to make way for the on-site construction of the steel.

My father is very happy with the quality of steel and construction.  He plans to engage Pak Ngurah for other jobs as well.  My father also plans to sponsor toilet bowls, and sinks and some furniture for Kechara Information Center.  In addition, he plans to give his supply of aluminum to reduce the materials that I have to purchase.

For the moment, this is all the update that I can give. I will send updates on the construction from time to time.

Warm regards.

The steel beams are being coated to prevent them from being corroded.

The beams are being set up at Pejaten Shelter.

Update: 14 August 2011

The construction workers have started to make holes on location to serve as a foundation for the steel.

There were challenges with the items that are being stored on location, so the workers are required to constantly move these items whenever they want to dig new holes.

Update: 20 August 2011

Valentina:

On 20 August 2011, after many delays, the steel is being brought to the site and construction can begin.  My father belongings has been removed and he has kindly negotiated for a good price on the rubber parquet. I am able to envision what this place will look like – light, glass walls, beautiful Tsongkhapa altar, office, pantry, small library etc.

Warm regards.

The problems with the items being stored in the construction sites have been solved. All the steel has been transferred from Pejaten Shelter to the location and now in the process of being set up in the construction site.

Update: 26 August 2011

Valentina:

Yesterday, I paid the 3rd payment for finishing including the rubber parquet flooring, glass walls and the toilet.  It has been properly measured out now.  After reducing the space for stairs and entrance, we have about 40m2 of space, excluding the toilet.

Next week, the workers will be off for their Muslim holiday.  They will start working again on 4 September 2011.  The contractor said that the finishing will take approx. 2 weeks, but based on experience, I have decided to double or triple the time required.

I will invite the interior designer on Saturday 10 September 2011 to start planning for furniture and the altar for the Lama Tsongkhapa statue.

Warm regards.

Most of the steel has been set up. The contractor has informed us that he needs to procure more steel and iron since there were some mistakes with the way the stairs were set up.

The contractor has also given the quotation for the cost of flooring, glass walls and doors, toilet foundation, repairing the pipe above the ceilings, etc. All these costs have been paid for on 24 August 2011.

11 September 2011

Valentina:

The workers have recommenced the construction process after the long Lebaran Holiday.

In the pictures depicted below, they are of the process of putting more steel in the corners as the shape of the property is not of a regular rectangle. In addition, they have also begun construction work on the stairs.

I am currently in discussions with the interior designers. I have expressed how I would like to have 2-3 space-efficient working desks and racks, a long book rack embedded within the wall (where I will store Dharma books), and a Lama Tsongkhapa altar.

The Lama Tsongkhapa altar will be a simple one with candles and flowers. In Indonesia, I am introducing Lama Tsongkhapa as a scholarly and highly intelligent being who has made countless contributions and has numerous great works contributing towards the peace and happiness of human kind.  He will appeal to a more secular audiences and not only strictly as a Buddhist deity.

My father will donate a new sofa from his furniture inventory. This is specially for Rinpoche if he chooses to visit. I plan for the audience to be seated on the floor. We will be using glass partitioning for the areas facing the main door and a glass door.

There will also be a set of computer equipment in KIC, and I have requested for my assistant to be trained by our webmaster Syntia so that KIC can upload our own articles in the future.

Warm regards.

The steel infrastructure to create another level.

The workers hard at work!

13 September 2011

Valentina:

The stairs have now been partially set up. Initially, I was a little upset when the contractor told me how the stairs were taking up too much space, however, I now understand. The stairs are of a rather sizable width.

I think that it will be nice to see people coming in and going up that stairs in the future. Most importantly, I would like to place a picture of Rinpoche on the wall somewhere along the stairs. As J.K. Rowling said, the power of imagination is important :) !

My father informed me today that there may be some problems in constructing the toilet as we need to make a hole outside the property that does not belong to my parents. If making those holes is possible, my father has offered to extend the space into the additional small room to the right of the construction site. This allows me to have bigger space. I will discuss this matter with the contractor tomorrow.

In addition, my father has kindly procured working desks for this center.

Warm regards.

The infrastructure of the stairs is finally built!

24 September 2011

Valentina:

The first level flooring can now be stepped on. I have just finished an initial meeting with an interior designer, Ms. Liana from Lavanda interior.  I have commissioned her to make Lama Tsongkhapa altar, book rack for the Dharma library, racks for my assistants, shoe rack, and drawer set for LCD TV and DVD player.

She has understood the general idea about what I want and will come up with a sketch and quotation by next Saturday for my approval. Next week, the contractor will continue building the construction for additional room and will install the glass wall.

Warm regards.

The first floor flooring can now be used.

It's very spacious.

Those walking up the steps can be seen.

The structure of the staircase has been completed. Now the planks of wood are being added on.

9 October 2011

Valentina:

We are moving forward with the construction of Kechara Information Center. We faced several challenges, but in general things are looking good.

This week, I was in close communication with the contractor to maximize every space that we got. We are doing this by moving the walls backwards, and pushing into the additional room. This area is still under my parents’ property.

The challenge of this week is: while we were pushing into the additional room, we found fire hydrants and other TV cables in the way (picture below). Thus, we may need to modify the wall a little bit. We just have to be a little more creative!

The fire hydrants and TV cables behind the extended wall.

I have started to search for furniture. Below are a list of items that I have procured:

1. Sofa and coffee table

I have been inspecting the furnitures in my parents’ warehouse. It was like going treasure hunting! I saw an antique sofa, and although it is fully covered with thick dust and in a bad condition, I could see the potential beauty and grandeur. I have never seen anything like it in any other modern furniture stores.

Next Monday, my assistant will start cleaning the sofa with a soft brush. In addition, a sofa restoration expert will do some repainting work, as well as change the fabric and foam of the sofa. The sofa comes with two matching side tables and a matching coffee table. I plan to order a few floor cushions from the same vendor.

Antique sofa to be restored to its former glory.

2. Italian granite altar for the Lama Tsongkhapa statue

My father took me to his old acquaintance’s premise, Mr. Salim. Mr. Salim happens to be the favorite furniture vendor of high officials back in President Soeharto’s era. He owns some old treasures that I could not take my eyes off!

Mr. Salim showed me a black Italian granite table which he had purchased from an Italian diplomat many years ago. The table measurement is 2 metres by 1 metre. It is quite strong and should be able to withstand the 40 kg Lama Tsongkhapa statue and the offerings that comes with it. I have purchased this table, as well as two onyx low desks for prayer reading (for those sitting on the floor) and some containers to hold small prayer items, such as malas.

3. Book rack for Dharma books

When I told him that I was looking for a book rack, Mr. Salim invited us to go to his house to show me a gold-plated book rack. He had imported it directly from Italy approx. 15 years ago – it still looks brand new! I instantly liked the book rack, and have procured it as well.

4. Crystal candles for Lama Tsongkhapa altar

I requested Mr. Salim to custom-make a pair of crystal candles for the Lama Tsongkhapa altar. He said yes! I’m very excited about this as Mr Slaim is someone who appreciates the finer things in life, has retired and doesn’t actually need to work! I really appreciate his agreement! I am going to his place again next Saturday to check out the custom-made crystal candles that he has prepared for my consideration.

5. Eight auspicious signs

I have procured eight auspicious signs for Lama Tsongkhapa’s altar.

6. Wallpaper and tiles

I have been in talks with the wallpaper and tile vendor. He happens to be one of my father’s tenants. I have chosen 5 types of wallpaper from him, they are for the pillar, working area, preparation and storage area, the main room and the wall facing the stairs.

The wall facing the stairs is where the Kechara logo will be installed when we are registered. We are under price negotiations with this vendor.

7. Curtain

The curtain vendor has completed the thick curtain previously ordered. He will complete the rest within two weeks as he has to go to Singapore to work on other projects.

8. Working desks, chairs, cubicles and filing cabinet

My father is taking care of this. We have the items already, they just need to be constructed.

Next week, the challenges are:

  • To solve the fire hydrant and TV cable issue;
  • Complete the construction work;
  • Call the electricity guy;
  • Seal a deal with the tile and wallpaper vendor.

In addition, I plan to go to Mr. Salim’s premise again. I very much enjoy the whole process!

Warm regards.

16 October 2011

Valentina:

Progress

  • The gypsum wall in the ceilings, additional rooms and the place where the altar will be, have been installed.
  • The safety railings in the glass wall facing the stairs have been installed.
  • I had my assistant mark the place where the electricity plug-ins are to be installed.

This week we faced some progress and challenges relating to the construction of Kechara Information Center:

  • Antique sofa - Sofa cleaning has been delayed, due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Fire sprinkler pipe and the TV cableThey are still hanging in the middle of the additional room.
  • Crystal candles for Lama Tsongkhapa altar – The owner of the lamp store is currently on a holiday.

Next week, we will throw the remaining building materials, get a quote from the electricity guy and get the air condition installed. The wood will be installed on top of the iron railing that secure the stairs.

Warm regards.

The pipes exposed and hanging in the middle of the additional room.

Safety railings are fixed onto the walls.

23 October 2011

Valentina:

The followings are the progress and the challenges regarding the construction of Kechara Information Center’s:

Progress

  • We have solved the issue with the water sprinkler. It is no longer hanging in the additional room.
  • We may have found a solution regarding the TV cable. My father’s acquaintance, who happens to be a technician, has agreed to manage these cables.
  • The white curtain is ready.
  • I have commission a carpenter to make a book rack and preparation tables and hanging racks.
  • I have purchased a pair of crystal lamps for Lama Tsongkhapa altar (picture below). These crystal lamps are custom-made for the altar to look like candles by my father’s friend.
  • I have purchased a pair of desk lamp for the sofa coffee table (picture below).
  • I have purchased a pair of lights that look like flowers for the walls near the bookshelf.
  • I have discussed various finishing aspects with the contractor. The premise will be painted all white with Dulux pearl white weather shield. This may take another week or more because the walls need to be make even beforehand before the tiling can be installed.
  • We have thrown away the remains of building materials.

Challenges

  • My father has requested another additional room that can be made as a toilet in the future. This may cause the construction time to be a little longer, and also incurred additional costs. I have told the contractor to just work on the toilet door first, so it will not interfere with the finishing of the main hall.
  • My father has also requested some renovation to be made on the ceiling because it currently does not appear aesthetically correct.
  • The restoration of the antique sofa has still not commenced because the person who guards my father’s warehouse is still off sick.
  • The installation of the air-conditions is currently delayed for no obvious reasons.
  • The electricity guy still has not come, which is very frustrating.

That is the update from this week!

Warm regards.

Crystal lamp for Lama Tsongkhapa's altar.

Table lamp that will be by the sofa.

Wall lamp that will be by the bookshelf.

5 November 2011

Valentina:

Progress:
  • The TV cable that is on the way in the additional room has been removed
  • The installation of the steel plates are in progress
  • The wall painting is in progress (we use Dulux weathershield Brilliant White)
  • Overall we will have 60 M of space when combined with the additional room
Challenges:
  • Need to push a lot of people to work faster.
  • Noted some imperfections in the wall painting.  I have asked the contractor to repaint it.
Next week:
  • Tile installation
  • Complete the finishing
  • Install the book rack and some furniture

Warm regards.

The installation of the steel plates are in progress.

20 November 2011

Valentina:

Progress:

I have been experiencing delays mainly with the contractors, electricity people, and my father’s unfixed plan to move the furnitures from his warehouse to the Kechara Information Center.   Regardless, I have been doing serious talk with all these parties using wrathful and peaceful means to get things going.

The followings are the progress that have been achieved so far.

  • The antique sofa has been restored.  I just want to paint some gold in it – will do next week together with my assistants
  • The wall pictures have been framed and mostly installed.  These are pictures from our Jakarta activities related to KAS and KSK ID
  • The tiling have been installed in most of the floor
  • TV rack has arrived at the premise
  • DVD player and 40” internet TV have been delivered to my house and to be installed hopefully next week
  • The electricity installation is partially completed
  • The custom made bookshelf, preparation tables and rack have been installed.  The carpenter is now doing the finishing work

Pending matters:

  • Completing electricity installation
  • Completing the finishing of book shelf’s, preparation tables and rack
  • Having the imported furniture delivered next week
  • Having the rest of the furniture (i.e. cabinet, employee locker, 2 2pk aircon, working desk and cubicle, sofa coffee table) from my father’s warehouse delivered
  • Retouching the wall painting
  • Retouching the sofa gold painting

It is not easy to comment on this remarkable posts because, firstly, I am reminded of all the plans I have made in the past that never started because of one reason or another. This story and effort by one dedicated person, has once and for all removed all reasons, excuses, and alibis. There are always more reasons on the surface for us to fail than to succeed but clearly if we truly put our heart into something worthwhile and with the right motive, it becomes a juggernaut crushing all obstacles in the way.

I am reminded of a line from a movie (Field Of Dreams) that is, “Build it and they will come”. That movie slight as it may be, had a good message i.e that we have to overcome our own lack of faith before we can do anything meritorious.

    Congratulations and thank you Valentina.

Congratulations Valentina for all the great work. I have met Valentina twice when I visited KH. I recalled meeting her on my first trip to KH back in Oct 2008 I met her in SS2 where she was paints Holy Statues and I was learning to roll mantra. She is very calm and meticulous lady. Second time I saw here was another trip I made to KH on my own without the other members of the SG group. She is very very devoted and when she is up in the early morning to do her water bowls in the morning in her room during her stay in the hostel. For all she has done she has put many of us to reflect on ourselves specially me. “What have I done?” I really feel ashamed of myself of my commitment and devotion. She is away from KH and yet she can do all these on her own. She is a remarkable lady. I am very much inspired by her and I will learn from her degree of commitments. I realized that I am not doing enough myself for myself ad also for the SG group. Really Really Really put me to shame. I could have start something moving in Singapore but I didn’t I was too attached to my worldly stuff. Just feeling giving myself a few tight slap and wake up.

Thank you very much Valentina for the setting the examples and showing the way to a lazy person like me that things can be done without having to be in KH. A very BIG Thank you to Rinpoche for this post and the wake up call.

Valentina single handedly set up Kechara Information Center is a truely inspirational. It shows that with an “idea” and a mind set to succeed, coupled with perseverance and effort, everything is possible.

Her dedication to Rinpoche and the dharma is remarkable. Personally I have dealt with contractors and I must say you need to have that “extra” patience to listen to the different reasons and stories for jobs that are not done on time.

May Lama Tsongkhapa teachings spread far and wide from Indonesia due to Valentina’s hard work!!!

    I rejoice for you Valentina!

  4. Sock Wan on Jan 5, 2012 at 9:30 am

Valentina is a very good example and role model for all of us even if we are not doing Dharma works. She is very determined, she knows clearly what she wants to do and with her faith in Dharma and Rinpoche, she overcomes all obstacles single handedly materialise Kechara Information Center. Instead of using the determination to satisfy personal needs, Valentina use it to spread Dharma, to bring benefits to people. She is a role model for me and I rejoice for her.

“aide toi et le ciel t’aidera”.

Or “push yourself, and help will come from higher grounds”.

What a remarkable and quiet work Valentina has done in Jakarta… it is very humbling…
The consistency, the care, the effort, the attention… I actually don’t know what to say, so I would like to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH VALENTINA, from my heart!

  6. Wan Wai Meng on Jan 11, 2012 at 8:59 pm

Valentina is truly amazing she has now single handedly started up the Indonesia KSK and the KIC in Jakarta. I fold my hands to her. Thank you for inspiring all of us with your devotion and hard work.

Such a inspiring story! I respect Valentina just as how I respect Dato Ruby! She took initiative to do all these to help! People in Indonesia is lucky to meet Dharma because of her dedication. I rejoice for Valentina!

  9. Adeline on Feb 1, 2012 at 5:23 pm

Valentina is such a incredible lady who has done such a fantastic job by setting up Kechara Information Center in Indonesia single handedly with a motivation to benefit others.she is a sincere dharma practitioner with a heart of gold! This shows that even though she is far away she can still practise Guru Devotion by dedicating her work to her Guru. Very inspiring!

  10. DR on Feb 20, 2012 at 2:18 pm

Whenever i think that I am overwhelmed with too much work, Valentina comes to my mind. She has a full time job as Director at one of the biggest accounting firm in the world, single handedly started KSK Indonesia and now Kechara Information Centre. All her ‘free time’ is filled with developing Kechara in Jakarta and serving the less fortunate. She does all these with no committee to back her up, but with two assistants and afew volunteers.

What an amazing lady with such strong faith and determination. You are an inspiration to many and an example to those who have so much support system yet chose to fail. I am fortunate that our paths crossed and i have the honour to work alongside with you.

Wonderful!!! 8 persons took vegetarian vows today. 1. Wan San (6 months) 2. Jill (6 months) 3. Chervenne (whole life) 4. Sam (whole life) 5. Victor Phang (whole life) 6. Jack Ng (whole life) 7. Rena Wong (6 months) 8. Lilyn Tan (6 months) I am so incredibly happy to get the news. It is very rewarding when some take the teachings to heart and some positive action arises as a result. I congratulate those 8 people who have developed compassion and enough awareness. They have put their attachments for meat aside for spiritual attainments. Tsem Rinpoche

Difference: Rinpoche’s life in Los Angeles is HIGHLY INSPIRATIONAL. More people should know about it. Kechara should do more to promote and educate everyone on who Tsem Rinpoche was before he took ordination. It is a teaching that will apply to so many materialistic people like myself. Kechara should really do alot more to promote the biography and background of Tsem Rinpoche since you have Rinpoche with you and you can gather any information you require and you have the writers/resources. If Kechara does not promote who will? All Kechara staff and students should know Tsem Rinpoche’s background perfectly and speak about it with others. I am so touched and inspired by Rinpoche’s growing up years and I know thousands upon thousands more would be also. Kechara should do more to promote. Not many people know about Rinpoche’s background. My thoughts to everyone. Don’t you all think so?

It is a WONDERFUL IDEA to start your day by reading one story from the 84 Mahasiddhas. They are very inspirational as they started out just like us, but changed and took responsibility and became attained thru sheer effort realizing the futility of life’s endeavours… I use to read their stories in Gaden and it would bring torrents of tears to my eyes. They touched me deeply especially their guru devotion. I wanted to be like that.. Wonderful habit to cultivate every morning upon waking is some dharma reading, then do Tsongkapa guru yoga, migtseyma and then start your day..You will be ready for anything…TR Mahasiddhas-Must bookmark this page: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=23941

Willow Creek is the exact type of town I would love to live in…trees, mountains, rivers.l would set up a house there, big altar, butterlamp house and make lots of offerings and do retreats there and lots of dharma readings. Having bigfoot nearby is just an extra treat. But I wouldn’t move therer for bigfoot-I like the environment..In Tibet Domo Geshe Rinpoche use to meditate in secluded caves and when he gained attainments, Yetis which is Himalayan bigfoots visited him giving him special milk where he made healing pills that were so powerful even the 13th Dalai Lama and Panchen Lamas wanted those pills. Domo Geshe was famous to have association with yetis and they never harmed him, but would drop milk off at his cave and go…I would love to live at Willow Creek so much. I love places like this. If I didn’t have Kechara, I would move there immediately and live there. But I will visit for sure. Will take a group with me. I want to go very much!! Willow Creek is a town in Northern California. This town has the most reported cases of bigfoot sightings. From Willow Creek you go to Bluff Creek where the most famous Patterson-Gimlin film of a genuine bigfoot was walking back in the 60′s was filmed…it is the most famous footage that no one can debunk till today….Willow Creek is so green, full of mountains and beautiful rivers. I will definitely take a group with me and visit one day..I love forests and Northern California..so beautiful.. I don’t want to look for bigfoot, but the whole town is a total mecca for bigfoot enthusiasts with shops and small museums. I would like to go to just enjoy the scenery, the mountains and forests. And see the bigfoot scene.. I would love to live there for sure. Who wants to go with me?? Imagine if I was real lucky and got to live solitary in a place like this??? Imagine if my cabin was near the shore of this lake without many people around? Imagine I have my dharma books and beautiful Buddha shrine and can live here away from the delusions, false dreams, fake promises and false hopes of this world that I never believed from day one anyways??? If I should be so lucky to be in such a living environment in this all future lives... Tsem Rinpoche

Dear friends, This is a well made Paranormal real life story. Nothing scary in this episode, but very powerful show of love and willpower. I want you to please watch this carefully and see how a mother reaches out to save her child. Her will was so strong she left her body. The child saw a light leaving the mother and going to the road although she died and 'found' people to save her child. Very touching and beautiful story. This is what I believe happened, what do you think? http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31937

I knew of a lady who when she went to bed at night, she would feel unseen hands touch her body and disturb her sleep. This happened many times. She sought help from many places without relief. When she saw me, I gave her Singdongma. She invited a statue home, set up a shrine for Her and did Singdongma's mantra/prayer daily. The unseen hands stopped disturbing her & this was ten years ago. She does her prayer daily to Singongma till now: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31904

Dear all, every week I am informed of a death and to offer prayers. This week I was informed of four deaths. With death, everything is almost final and if we didn't do dharma genuinely, we would have regrets. Death is such a omnipresent and frightening stalker. Realize it will come for you one day soon and go all the way with dharma, dharma practice, dharma work and gain realizations. At death, the dharma you have is the only hope. Anything else acquired in life is a total waste of time. Please realize and wake up. Don't procrastinate and keep yourself 'busy' with activities that are empty at the time of death. Our minds will continue at death and what supports that journey is our good merits and attainments collected during our lives. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear Rinpoche, Bryan and I do so much less than what Rinpoche does. When people are asleep Rinpoche's working, when people are awake Rinpoche's working. Not many people in Kechara realize that Rinpoche works the hardest in the entire organization. I didn't know before joining Ladrang. Although Rinpoche may want to go around to pray for people in need, one day I want to able to do this instead of Rinpoche. It is quite taxing and Rinpoche can't be going out of Haven 24 hours to pray for the dying/dead. I'm happy Pastor Yek Yee and Pastor Susan wanted to come today, they really are awesome Pastors. Thank you, Jean Mei

Dear TR,  We have just collected Tashi's ashes. Our Nirvana agent who named May is a very nice lady, she is in her 40+, she is a Buddhist and a Mandarin speaker. She follow us thru out the whole session. May also bought us drinks and settle everything for us.  I have share with her about KH, TR and some other departments we have in Kechara. She is interested in KH. I will arrange with her to come and visit KH and various departments soon. The couple is sending us back home and we will go and get a stupa for Tashi's ashes. Have asked them to go back and rest after this. From Bryan

Dear all,  It's 9:30 AM. I just walked into the house after being in the hospital and then going to finish a funeral for a baby of a student. I have just conducted two funerals in the last 24 hours. The second funeral was for a baby. I had Jean Mei, Bryan, Seng Piow, Pastor Susan, Pastor Yekyee, Lew with me. Pastor Susan and Yekyee really wanted to come and learn. I am glad they made the effort.  We conducted a simple funeral by reciting holy verses, sprinkling holy water onto the baby, protector rice and scattered blessed fresh rose petals all over the baby. Afterwards I had a nice conversation about the baby's mind taking rebirth. Upon leaving the father and father's mother gave me a very warm hug of thanks and support during this most saddest of times for them...and the wife was happy and looked visibly relieved. She let go alot and let go of her guilt after we talked.. I have sent Bryan and Jean Mei with the family to cremate the baby this morning at 11AM It will take two hours and then we can bring the ashes home. Part of the ashes will be in a large stupa. All of us are extremely exhausted but did very good work. That is what Kechara is about. I am very happy we can help the baby and family along their way. When they called, they sounded extremely desperate as it was very late with no one to help them. We were very honoured to help them. I didn't call Pastor Yekyee and Pastor Susan heard, they immediately wanted to join me. Now with no sleep after baby Tashi's funeral, they went to Kechara to give dharma classes. I am proud of them and my assistants who wanted to help all last night until this morning. It is wonderful to give it all we can for others. That is what Kechara is about. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,

I have received some update from Gaden regarding Justin Ripley's ashes.

Monastery have done a whole day of Vajrayogini Daju and Ruchok this Sunday, this is for Rinpoche's previous life and current life students who passed away recently: Geshe Ngawang and Justin Ripley.

Monastery is now in the middle making Tsa Tsa out from Geshe Ngawang's ashes. After they finish, monastery start to make Tsa Tsa out from Justin's ashes.

Monastery will use Justin's ashes and make a few different type of Tsa Tsa:

1) Chenrezig, Manjushri and Vajrapani Tsa Tsa

2) White Tara, Amitayus and Nagyalma Tsa Tsa

3) small stupa Tsa Tsa

I have asked monastery to mail us few Tsa Tsa after finish, this will be place inside KFR big VY stupa.

Thanks
Bryan (Justin Ripley's ashes has been made into holy Buddha tsatsas {as in picture} to gain more merits for him). We love Justin.

When we trust, practice and go all the way with the tantric path of Vajra Yogini, we have nothing to worry about. All the worries both worldly and spiritual will be solved. We should surrender to Vajra Yogini's blessing by being our best. We just set up this wonderful statue of Buddha Vajra Yogini in our library area. How beautiful She is. Buddha Vajra Yogini is special deity for those overwhelmed by laziness, miserliness and want easy practice but big results. May all of you be blessed to see Her holy image. Kechara Discovery Dept of our orgazination does such wonderful images available for the public. I am very happy as She is beautiful. Thank You Kechara Discovery! Tsem Rinpoche

When I first arrived in Malaysia in 1992 I had a group of people who would sponsor my tickets, stay and for many years sponsor much needed help in Gaden. One of them was Ms Mooi Lan who lives in Cheras. She has been a great supporter for the last 20 years and in the past sponsor. I recieved very sad news she passed away this morning at 4Am. I request all my students to please light a candle for her to take good rebirth and come across the dharma again. Offer the candle to Buddha Dukkar..that is the Buddha I assigned to her many years ago and she diligently practiced and set up a shrine to Dukkar.. I will miss her and never forget her kindness. Many of the things I wanted to do in the past she generously helped. Tsem Rinpoche ( see here http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=4354 )

Heruka! We say we want to improve yet we don't hold our vows. We promise to keep our samaya, yet our promise to our earlier promises laxed. We want to experience only good results yet we hold onto our face. We want wealth, yet we give nothing. We want success, yet we offer tiny offerings to the Three Jewels. We say we have great faith in our Guru, yet when his assignments are difficult we run. We say we want a good rebirth yet all our actions are motivated by self gain. Heruka, Heruka, Heruka, how are we to recieve your blessings when our three doors are closed tightly by selfishness, ignorance and anger?~Tsem Rinpoche

I haven't lived in Gaden since 1992 when I was sent to Malaysia. I love Gaden and loved so much living there. I like so many things about Gaden. Conversations would not be lonely and easy. Whatever I talk about the monks immediately understand. I do not have to face 'opposition' , doubts, hundreds of questions, and every detail simple about the dharma or dharma work has to be explained. I miss that so much. I am not lonely for company, but I am lonely for familiarity very much. I was very content, at peace and in my element in Gaden. I never knew or imagined I would have to go to Malaysia, stay and take on heavy responsibilities. I am not complaining but I love Gaden, the monks, my teachers, the great masters, the senior monks whom I have many friends. I miss them so much. So so much. I love and respect the great old monks, Rinpoches and spectacular Geshes. Gaden was a city of practitioners and I was home. Lord Tsongkapa's presence pervades the whole Gaden. TR

Dear all, I gave a talk on desire to a few inclusive of Paris and David. I asked David and Paris to write up the talk on their blogs. My plan was after they write it, I'll link it to my blog. From my blog people will click to their blog to read the write up and benefit many who read the talk. Paris did a very good write up and did not miss the subtle points I was expressing that night. She really took the time and effort to write it...I was happy to see she wrote exaclty as I expressed. Effort pays off usually or eventually. I am happy to see there are 669 views (43 comments) already going back to Paris' blog to read the teachings. The teachings will be benfit many. Must save and read again and again. Must share with others...Must contemplate. You want dharma, I am giving it to you and Paris wrote it out perfectly. Bryan gave me an incredible MOTHER'S DAY GIFT. It is so auspicious. He had someone draw HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche's sacred face onto the body of Buddha Vajradharma. Buddha Vajradharma is the form Buddha takes to teach the immaculate and fautless tantra of Vajra Yogini. In Vajra Yogini's tantra and meditations, you must visualize your guru in the form of Vajradharma to make offerings both inner, outer & secret offerings daily to one's tantric guru & to meditate on Him in that form. It is very integral part of the practice. If you do the meditations well on your guru in this particular form during the practice of the sadhana..you can gain tremendous realizations and control over one's mind to leave the body when you want. So getting this picture today was an omen if Kecharians fulfill their responsibilities, then Vajra Yogini's practice will spread in this region. Very good omen. I feel this strongly. Bryan really planned out this gift & surprised me!! I will put in Chamang Ladrang in the future. THANK YOU BRYAN!!TR

Back in New Jersey over 30 years ago, there lived a lady down the street who was also a student of my teacher. Her name is Carmen (she is a nun now and her ordination name is: Ani Thupten). She had a nice size library of books and many dharma books. I loved the Dharma books!! I would spend so much time browsing and getting snippets of each book from Carmen. I use to ride by bike down to chat with her and borrow her books and it took me like 5 mins by bike..She lived on the same street. I would read dharma books voraciously and write down my questions. I would call Carmen almost daily for years to ask her to clarify the readings I had questions on. She would spend hours on a phone with me answering questions never once losing patience. I learned so much from her. She had vast dharma knowledge, very devoted to our teacher and would do her meditations and extensive sadhanas daily. She would join in all the dharma classes and pujas at our nearby Kalmuck Buddhist Temple. She was such a good dharma friend and I enjoyed her company very much. I wanted to be like her to have the freedom to study and practice dharma. When I recievd my first initiation by our teacher at the temple, Carmen sat right next to me on the front row. Thrilling!! After initiation we would have ten days of explanations (commentary) from our teacher His Eminence Kensur Losang Tharchin Rinpoche. I was so excited and deeply happy to get commentary from our great and knowledgable teacher. What I did not understand, I would of course consult Carmen who is much more advanced and taught me patiently after each day’s teachings. Around 15 years ago Carmen came to India and I travelled with her to holy Bodhgaya, Varanasi and Dharamsala. I escorted her to these places. Since then I have not met up with her. But I know she is fine. Around two years back I sent her a three foot Vajra Yogini statue as a gift from me. Carmen received the statue and was very happy. It was my offering to her for so much kindness shown me when I was a child. I wish so much she can visit Malaysia. She would be happy. We all want to be a part of something big and with good results. But the only way we can be a part of that is if we work hard together with the other members of our Kechara. The time will pass. It can pass with you taking on difficulties or it can pass with you doing nothing. I feel it's better to work hard now and enjoy later than to enjoy nothing now and then end up nowhere later. Prayers and dedications are ok, but hard work must be part of the prayer. Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness the Dalai Lama seated here with His sacred mother. A mother who gives birth to great beings like Shakyamuni, Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, Trijang Rinpoche, etc must be a Buddha Herself, a highly realized Dakini, a powerful practitioner, or a lady who made prayers in previous lives to provide others with great dharma in one way or another. A lady of great spiritual merit or virtue.. I wanted to share this photo with you because if I ever met His Holiness' mother, I would prostrate to Her immediately. Beautiful picture. His Holiness is not ordinary for sure and neither could a being who gave birth to Him. Tibetans always said she was very saintly, gentle, simple and deeply spiritual. During Her lifetime many went to recieve Her blessings..Tsem Rinpoche

It's very revealing how when you give, offer and have something for them, they crowd around smiling, happy and easy. The minute you ask them to give something, contribute or really help out, they totally disappear. Handphones shut. No replies. No sound. As if you they never knew you. People like that make themselves 2nd rate, find 1st rate people to work with and move on. Recently I encountered some students like that!~ Tsem Rinpoche

Wesak Day May 5, 2012 at Kechara House. I gave refuge to 100 new persons last night. TR

Last night between 300-400 persons congregated at Kechara while I gave a talk to them on 'making a choice' and 'the power and purpose of stupas'. The talk has been taped and will be blogged once tape is ready. The talk was two hours and it flowed well for me although I had very little sleep. Towards the end of the talk I gave refuge vows to 100 new persons from different countries for this. When everything was done, I met up with a group of 15 and 5 from Shanghai. Had a nice dharma talk with them on how to make a centre grow and harmony. Passed out nice dharma gifts to all the visitors so they don't go home empty handed. Also seperately met some directors and movie producers that attended the talk and sought private time with me..these producers and directors are very well known locally. One is from Hong Hong. Got home around 5Am and saw so many gifts from people. Did a Manjushri dedication for all the people who offered gifts to me on Wesak day in gratitude. Also some people from Europe called in to Kechara to arrange flowers to be given to me last night. That was very sweet. I have so many flowers now..over 70 bouquets I would...guess. They have all been offered up on the shrine. Thank you. TR (May 5, 2012)

Karma exists and created constantly by our actions. Karma created in the past is fertile and will open up when the situation arises. We should never relax and think everything will be alright when there is so much volatile latent karma like a huge volcano temporarily dormant. We can do something about it though. We can 'manipulate' karma and here's how: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/kechara-13-depts/what-are-pujas-about-do-take-a-good-read.html

This picture of myself was taken in December 1987 in Kathmandu, Nepal. I was around 25 years old and I had just taken my ordination vows a few weeks ago from His Holiness Dalai Lama. If we always do not understand Dharma, then that is a sign of not studying. If we always blame Dharma, it is a sign we do not know what dharma really is. If we always expect of the Dharma, then we are using Dharma in ineffective methods. If we find Dharma difficult, then it is because we are unwilling to accept it. If we give up the Dharma, we are get deeper into our sufferings without respite. If we complain about Dharma it is a sign we are looking for blame in the wrong places and not within ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

****(April 22, 2012-Sunday-Kechara is very lucky. Many times when we are about to embark on something really beneficial or just finished something very good, we will often times witness a rainbow and there is no rain or clouds.Today again at KECHARA FOREST RETREAT after they finished their work in the evening another clear rainbow appeared in the clear sky reported to me by Datuk May and ten other Kecharians volunteering there today. See the beautiful picture of the rainbow...TR)

I prostrate to my Guru the consummate Lojong master who teaches us how to laugh at death by creating right causes n how to regret n cry at death by doing stupid things. Exciting indeed that we can do either.
I rather die w natural smile than a fake one made up by the embalmers.
Thank you for reminding we hv choice.
Gratefully yours
