Dharma through art is this dept’s motto.

Paul have been with me for many years even before I opened and started Kechara House and it’s 12 depts. They have alot of history with me and have been very loyal and hardworking people. Very nice people in fact.
Paul is in the process of making a 12ft Tsongkapa, 8ft Vajra Yogini and 8ft Setrap statues for our new prayer hall which will start renovations soon. Our Current prayer hall is too small already. The new Kh prayer hall will be able to seat 700 comfortably.
Wan will then take over from Paul and have the three statues painted and mantras put inside. To be ready for the new prayer hall.
The various depts of kh work hand in hand.
More and more people from all over Malaysia now inquiring re our statues for their centres and individual altars. Also they are sending many of their own statues for repair work, touch up or repaint. Wonderful!

Lily Ng is another talented artist of Kechara. She had helped to repair Rinpoche’s previous incarnation statue in Kechara House earlier when it was damaged in transit.
When Zong Rinpoche’s statue was damaged by the water leakage in Rinpoche audience room in Kechara House, every one of us thought it was a bad omen! We were so relieved when we heard from 2 senior old monks and 1 high lama from the monastery that this is actually a good omen which indicates growth and support for Rinpoche’s dharma works.
Kechara Saraswati Arts http://www.kechara.com/ksa was the brain child of Tsem Rinpoche in bringing Tibetan arts and thangka painting for our local students. From this department, we have had many talented students emerging and it is also a place where we can calm our mind and collect merits by painting Buddha statues, rolling mantra, beautifying Buddha statues etc.
Tsem Rinpoche had created various opportunities for every one to practice dharma and collect merits. This is one of Rinpoche’s skilful ways to bring us closer to dharma and to transform ourselves.
Thank you Rinpoche for always watching over and caring for us.
Kechara is never lacking of talents. There are so many different gifted individuals in this Buddhist organization, and I can only imagine it is because of its charismatic Spiritual Advisor. I dare say that there is no other Buddhist organization which caters to such a diverse group of people, with such varied interests. Kechara Saraswati Arts is one of my faves because this is where I go to get my statues ‘done up’. Beyond just ‘enhancing’ my statues, I can only enhance my own skills through the various classes that KSA holds – from kids’ painting classes to flower arrangement for adults, sewing of mala bags for the whole family and etc. KSA did such a beautiful job restoring Rinpoche’s statue of Zong Rinpoche, his Root Guru. Just by looking at the pictures, I can see that it is done with love and care. Rinpoche has always said that we can express spirituality through many ways, and one of them is through arts and craft. In KSA, we can collect so many merits by painting Buddha statues, offering jewels to the Buddha images, or in creating those holy images and many more. How very kind of our Guru to create the many ways for us to collect merits, learn and get Enlightened. Enlightenment through the Arts begins here.
When news broke that a leak in Rinpoche’s audience room in KH1 had damaged the statue of Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, everyone panicked. I was thinking to myself, “Oh no, how will Rinpoche find a replacement? Can such a precious statue ever be replaced?”
Thank you to KSA and Lily that today the statue has been restored beautifully.
It is amazing how Dharma work, even in the context of art can bring the best talent out of anyone. Lily’s workmanship is delicate and meticulous. Imagine that she is not even “professional”. In fact, I do not think a professional could do a better job because the care level could never match the care Lily gave.
Dharma work is all about caring for someone else more than oneself. Dharma work is all about developing selflessness and benefitting others. In Kechara, there are many avenues for anyone to develop this type of selfless caring. We have 13 departments today. If you care about helping and nurturing people you can be a part of KSK and KC. If you care about books you can be in KMP. If you care about meditation and prayers you can be involved in pujas in KH. And the list goes on and on. There is just no room for excuses not to care in Kechara because we are structured to suit all levels of people from all walks of life. All you need to have is a heart that cares, and everyone does no matter how hard they pretend not to ☺

Kechara Saraswati Arts (KSA) was born with the idea to merge arts with spirituality. When it started, KSA was just a small group of students “parking” themselves at Kechara Paradise SS2 – they started out with mantra rolling which were needed to be consecrated inside Buddha statues. When they outgrew the place as their activities increased, they moved to a shoplot just down the road. Now they are producing beautiful pieces of sewn brocades, colourfully painted statues, hand-made pieces of attractive beadworks and many other crafted items. Many volunteers have testified that it is very fulfilling to spend time there as they not have only collected merits through the efforts they have put in, but they found that it is the place to go to calm our mind. This is just one of Rinpoche’s way for us to collect merits while at the same time bringing out our creative side.

A Buddha statute is said to connect the owner or a potential ownner to enlightenment. Each statute be it copper, ethnic, or resin is believed to be truly brought alive by which it is painted, sewn, decorated or adorned. The selfless effort, hardworkingness and love which go into each statute represent the spiritual respect these talented people doing the restoration work at KSA has for the statute of the Devine being. KSA is actually never lacking of skillful talents who came with a heart that really cares. CONGRATULATIONS for a job well done KSA!

Not many buddhist organisations have an arts department. I have seen how KSA brings art to the people in general and public. It was so innovative of Rinpoche to create a arts department that is based on spirituality!
There are many talents in Kechara and one of them is Lily. Besides this holy statue of Zong Rinpoche, she has repaired and restored Rinpoche’s previous incarnation. She has done a wonderful job to restore this holy statue.
It is said that creating or painting Buddha images with the correct motivation purifies negative karma associated with the body, generates long life and good health. Buddha statues are representation of the enlightened beings and with every prayer, prostration and offering made to these images, tremendous merits will be accumulated by those who are involved in creating or painting of these images.
