Pavara Wants To Be A Liaison!!!

Jul 6, 2010 | Views: 74

Ms. Chooi Sheem and Mr. Lam are active volunteers of the Ladrang and Kechara House. They have two very cute boys – Jutika and Pavara.

Their family is a good example of a Kechara family, where the whole family gets involved together in Dharma activities at the center.

Mr. Lam won the second place in the highest prostration number during the recent Dzambala retreat and his elder son, Jutika won the third place. Ms. Chooi Sheem won the third place for prostration under the women’s category.  (Read the news by clicking here: Dzambala Finale)

Today, Mr. Lam’s whole family is here in Ladrang helping to prepare a thanksgiving dinner for Tsem Ladrang’s sponsors and I received the cute sms below from Liaison Su Ming about Mr. Lam’s younger son, Pavara. Read what Pavara told Su Ming!!! hehehe

Dear Rinpoche,

Pavara wants to be a liaison of Rinpoche’s apartment when he grows up.
He wants to bring food up to Rinpoche and also
he is very curious how does Rinpoche’s apartment look like.
He he he, very cute.

Su Ming

Pavara

Adorable Pavara!!! The future Liaison of Tsem Ladrang!

Here’s Mr. Lam’s family volunteering in the Ladrang kitchen tonight:

When you least expected, Pavara will come up with another unexpected entertaining ‘act’. See below for a video of Pavara singing Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” while hanging out in Ladrang earlier.

very funny indeed! my brother is on the front page of rinpoche’s blog! and me and my mum and dad too.
i think that pavara can be a liason one day, but he says that he wants to be a private attendant instead. he said he wanted to bring food to you, rinpoche. it warms my heart to hear him. i would love to see him when he becomes your private attendant. i would like to work at the gift room one day, wrapping gifts for people. i can wrap gifts for rinpoche too. my mum and dad works at different parts of ladrang wherever they ask to work for example the gift room . will rinpoche like pavara to be his personal assistant?

It is pretty hard to be cuter than Pavara and Jutika.
Open, uninhibited, friendly, very intelligent boys.
    I like them alot….super adorable.

Pavara is indeed super adorable, along with his brother, Jutika. It is so heart- warming to read this post, seeing that such a young child is already so inspired to become a liaison to Rinpoche. This is a definite sign that their parents, Chooi Sheem and Mr. Lam, have raised their children well and have led by example. They have made Dharma not just part of their family life, but Dharma becomes their family life. It is not something that they get together and do when they are free or have the time. Dharma is the very foundation of their lives – as a family, as parents, as children and practitioners. Jutika and Pavara are both very involved in all of Kechara’s activities – beyond the scope of children’s programs. These two cuties are involved in pujas and even have their very own Setrap box sets. What Rinpoche said is undeniable and we really bore witness today through this post – “People whose minds cannot be changed or transformed, most likely they are unable to change their kids’ minds” – TsemTulku

thank you rinpoche for you kind words and praises we are now downstairs in the old e-division office writing comments.

aiyo…Pavara and Jutika are real super cuties! Besides, they are extremely helpful in the centre, ever ready to help. I’ve seen the boys carry things which seemed to look bigger than them! They have no qualms staying up late to help. They are quick, friendly, cheerful, well-mannered, intelligent. To top it off, their hearts are in dharma and aspires be a liaison, personal attendant, work in gift room. WOW!!
Pavara and Jutika, you both are precious gems! I am sure your parents are very proud of you both. pssttt..see if you can get Sean (you know, that BIG boy who’s 12 years old) to run around with you both. :)

Argh!!!! So cute! That’s really true. These two little cute, open and intelligent boys couldn’t be any cuter. I like Pavara because he looks just like a walking, talking cartoon character. Their smile couldn’t be any sweeter and their little heads couldn’t be more animated and cuter.
I love Pavara’s aspiration. What amazing Dharma imprint from a previous life! Which kid at his tender age could make such an amazing wish to work with Rinpoche. It must be something from a different lifetime manifesting in his tender age. I do hope that Pavara sees his full potential in the Dharma. Perhaps he will the teacher/attendant/practitioner of the future when KWPC is up and runining.

How many children do you know who love hanging around the Dharma centre, saying prayers, making prostrations and just hanging out, helping out and loving it?
Jutika and Pavara are definitely two very special boys with strong imprints from previous lives to be born in to a Dharma family and with the merits to be so close to a Guru… even to serve in his Ladrang.
Choi Sheem & Lam have done a fantastic job raising their two boys to be well-mannered, responsible, respectful. And most of all, they have given their two sons the ultimate gift, as Rinpoche says, “the best gift you can give your children is the Dharma”

  10. Bonita Khoo on Jul 6, 2010 at 2:11 am

Yes indeed both Jutika & Pavara are super duper cuties! They are forever ready to lend a helping hand any where any time without qualms! They’ll even make the effort to ask if there is anything they can do or help! Wonderfully adorable!
Congrats to Chooi Sheem and Mr Lam for raising such great kids. It is really great to see Mr Lam’s whole family so involve in dharma and Kechara.
It is really inspiring seeing both of them at such a tender age aspire to work for and with Rinpoche in dharma in benefiting others. Talk about imprints! Theirs are real strong! And how lucky that their positive karma open up at such a tender age to be able to practice dharma!

  11. Nicholas Yu on Jul 6, 2010 at 2:15 am

Pavara is very cute. Chooi Sheem & Mr Lam really lives their family life with dharma. These really inspiring especially to me (or any young family). What is the best to give your children while you still can?….is to provide dharma knowledge to them. I believe that to work for money it can be done easily… anytime anywhere (as long as you want to work for it) but how if one day our child faces difficulties or problem, are they able to take it? By nurturing them with dharma they will definitely prepared to face the world.
Looking at Pavara & Jutika such a young kids and so enthusiast participating all classes in KH activities together with Choi Seemd, and Tat Ming they have so much interest towards dharma
Pavara & Jutika will definitely be Natasha & Nadia idol.

  12. JP on Jul 6, 2010 at 2:21 am

Pavara is very very cute! I have always been amazed with him and his brother, Jutika. I remembered when I attended one of the Setrap pujas with my friends. It was their first time at Kechara House.
Pavara and Jutika went to get the cushions and prayer books for my friends. Then they taught them how to recite ther prayers and use the prayer beads. They spoke like adults and were very articulate with their explanations. They reminded me of little elves. Hehe.
Later I found out that they do home study with their mother Chooi Seem. It’s incredible how well Chooi Seem has educated her sons. She and her husband would spend their free time in Kechara House, Kechara Saraswati Arts and Tsem Ladrang volunteering, attending pujas or classes. It’s no wonder Pavara wants to be Rinpoche’s Liaison.

  13. Albert on Jul 6, 2010 at 2:36 am

    Yes, Agree!!!!
They are indeed very intelligent and adorable. When I first met them, it was during Grand Setrap Puja at Chinese assembly hall, at the last day when we doing the packing up, they are just nonstop helping in one place to another, when they came to outlet’s area, they walk to me and said: can I help? Let me handle here (while I was wrapping the tsa tsas). It gave me a very good impression, and then later I found out that they don’t go to school, they were under home education, their parent really taught them well. They know exactly what are they doing. Even when they are helping out in Ladrang, when they saw me walk in, one of them (can’t remember Jutika or Pavara) will come to me and wanted to serve me drink or food. Although they are young, but they are showing a very good example for many of us to learn. What a great and brave future liaison!!!!

  14. Wasukamol on Jul 6, 2010 at 2:42 am

Jutika and Pavara are the youngest active members in Kechara House, they participate in almost activities in Kechara house ie Dzambala retreat, setrap puja etc.. uncredible that jutika who so young won the third place of prostration in Dzambala retreat. Its show very cleary how the strong of their imprint from how they are interested in their young age. Both of them look like the dharma practitioner who sooooo cute!!, have good manner and intelligent over their age.
Beside involve in Kechara house and ladrang, Choi Sheem, Mr.lam, jutika and pavara also volunteer at Kechara Saraswati Arts (KSA) regulary, everytime we need help, they always there.
Choi Sheem shared with me before that both jutika and pavara didnt go to school like other child, instead she teachs them at home, Choi sheem must be a great mother and teacher as a great result in Pavara and Jutika, a future Liaison.

  15. chia on Jul 6, 2010 at 2:46 am

Kiddo! You are great. Keep it up your wish and aspiration. One day, you will be become one of ladrang liaisons at the future. I rejoice to see more dharma family members like Mr. Lam, Choi Sheem, Jutika and Pavara have involve helping at dharma premises. Mr.Lam has set the good example to teach their kids and enroll the whole family in to dharma. What the strong dharma connection among their family members involve in dharma. Their previous life must make the strong prayer for dharma.
Hence, ladrang liaisons and ladrang staff has set the good example for other to serve our lama, young Pavara have the dream want be ladrang liaisons, he must be observe what your has done. Right! Your hard work will encourage more young people to join ladrang team.
    Regards,
    Chia

There was once when I was putting out candles at KH 2 after puja, putting a cup over another one when Pavara came along and said he wanted to do it. So as he was doing it, I asked him how the candle could go off by covering the cup and without hesitation, he said, “Oh because there is no more air!”. That was a long time ago, perhaps almost a year when he was younger? He’s one smart boy, I tell ya.

  17. Kok Yek Yee on Jul 6, 2010 at 3:03 am

Pavara and Jutika, this two adorable brother, always hanging around at Kechara House centre and ladrang. Pavara want to become Rinpoche Liaison, wah…to me that is a good imprint for him open more good karma for this small young boy future. Then when he grows up can benefit many many people.
A dharma kid always smart and intelligent like Jutike and Pavara is a good example. Today, I heard from my colleague June Kang says her 4 years old niece’s personality is very Dharmic. June Kang says when her niece eats an egg; this little girl will take out egg yolk. When her parents asked her why?She says because chicken is come from yolk, so I cannot eat it. Cute right??
So, parents need to remember always, give your children Dharma when they are still a child……

  18. Li Kim on Jul 6, 2010 at 4:25 am

Pavara and Jutika are fantastic examples of how Dharma benefits children. Agreed that Chooi Sheem and Mr. Lam have given their sons the best gift with the Dharma.
Being so active in Kechara’s activities surrounded in an environment full of love and kindness will definitely nurture and bring forth stronger the imprints from their previous lives. These 2 boys are indeed remarkable especially Pavara who is already planning ahead to be a Liaison. Seeing how he is now I can imagine he would be a lovely liaison.
As a liaison now, I am inspired to commit to making the way for young future liaisons by setting the platform and foundation solid so that when they come of age, they will continue the legacy Rinpoche and liaisons now have started – Kechara and KWPC.

Everyday i seem to see more and more evidence of past lives – that’s the only explanation why some people are so drawn to Dharma and some are not. These two kids are really as cute as buttons! They are always helpful in the centre and at the ladrang, and never show any sign of complaint even when it’s 2am in the morning.
It’s great that a young boy like Pavara wants to be liaison (http://tsemtulku.com/liaisons/overview-the-liaisons-council/). I guess the liaisons must be doing something right for a child to aspire to be a liaison. I can’t wait for the young ones to join the Council (by which time i will be moving into Kechara Old Folks Home)!
There are also other very Dharmic kids in Kechara too like Rachel Tan (http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/2010/06/atsongkhapa-garden-for-rachel.html) who recited an amazing number of chapters of the Lamrim during our most recent retreat and little Alex… who seems to be an old man in a young boy’s body!

  20. yoke fui on Jul 6, 2010 at 6:39 am

Both Jutika and Pavara are special . At this young age ,they can sit through long pujas of 2 hours plus. At the recent Dzambala retreat, I was amazed to see that they are familiar with the hand mudras and usage of ritual implements.
The boys are also helpful. During the retreat, Pavara was helping participants to set up their ritual sets, Jutika was helping the retreat sub committee in distribution of water and registration.
When they first came to KH, Jutika was full of questions. He is curious about everything. Pavara was more shy then.
Both the children reflect well on the parents. They have home school – Mr Lam teaches them languages and Choi Seem teaches them maths and science.
This family sets the example that spirituality can be practiced as a family and age is not a limiting factor.

  21. Ooi Pe on Jul 6, 2010 at 7:53 am

These two little fellas have BIG hearts. Never is there a moment when they do not offer to help any member; Help is their middle name! They just brighten up any day. Pavara is always grinning and a lot of happy vibes just seem to ooze from him. They bring their strong upbringing with them whether they are in Kechara House or in any departments of the organization and set a very good example to everyone who walk through our doors. Kudos to Choi Sheem and Mr Lam – both of you are instrumental in paving the dharma path for both your boys.

  22. margaretlee on Jul 6, 2010 at 8:21 am

I admire Chooi Seem and Mr Lam’s family with two super intelligent sons like Jutika and Parava. When I first met them, they were volunteering at Kechara Soup kitchen(KSK). Jutika and Parava are like two little busy bodies, helping to pack food and always asking a lots of questions.
I noticed strongly the Dharmic imprints in both Jutika and Parava have fully opened up . They are very different from the many kids of their same age. To be able to be born in a family who is stronly involved in Dharma or to have come across dharma at such a tender age, these two little fellow must have done a lots of inpsiration prayers in their past lives. Rinpoche has mentioned that aspirational prayers have a lot of power, we must have great aspiration and one day these aspirations will become a reality. Like Parava today, he aspires to be Rinpoche’s liaison or personal attendant, I am sure I will see you carrying food to serve Rinpoche one day.
KWPC, relies very much on young Children like Parava and Jutika. They will carry our legacy forward.
    I rejoice for them!

Dharma family in kechara house become more and more seen, one of the good example is Ms chooi Sheem,Mr Lam and the 2 cute boys-Jutika & Pavara.
I always admire these family members into dharma together, seeing them attending pujas, classes, activities together, rejoice for them.
What impressed me is both Jutika & Pavara have great memory, they met you once at KH, they remembered your name and they like to ask questions, to explore more about KH
what Rinpoche had said, to check your transformation, “ how many people you bring into dharma since you join dharma?” this is the strong reference point to tell if you practice enough to inspire others to join dharma.
May Rinpoche’s teachings and Lama Tsongkhapa doctrine spread to more families like Chooi Sheem & Mr Lam

  24. Irene Lim on Jul 6, 2010 at 9:47 am

A virtious family at Kechara House! You never know the whole family of 4 persons together could become Rinpoche’s Liaisons in the future! I notice Pavara and Jutika are extremely intelligent and brillliant kids as well as fortunate to be born in this family to meet the Dharma. They participate and learn Dharma together with their parents so young. It clearly indicates they have created the causes in their past lives to be able to enjoy this condition now and meet with a Lama with the perfect 10 qualities of a Guru. How wonderful! I rejoice and wish them always have the blessings of the Triple Jewels.

  25. mayy on Jul 6, 2010 at 10:31 am

Am pretty surprised when I found out that both Pavara and Jitaka is home educated by their parents. Both Choi Sheem and husband, Mr Lam did well in training and educating them. Both the children speak well and intelligent for their age. They are willing to learn, inquisitive pair and very helpful too. Well, it was never a difficult moment with them around at any of our KH activities…well behaved children and always active in classes and prayer sessions too. Even doing prostration during our recent Dzambala retreat, I was totally awed that they were happily engaging in. They are so much different from many kids of their age.

  26. julia on Jul 6, 2010 at 10:47 am

Pavara and Jutika, our Kechara future liaisons to be. The 2 little super active, super cute super bright mosters!! Aiyoo.. I always see them running around, playing around, asking questions about anything they saw. Even in Ladrang they run and jump like no body’s business. I first found it very annoying cause they never ever stop and sit down still. BUT, but.. these 2 little cute one, the only time they both sit down queitly seriously is when they do puja, when they listen to Rinpoche’s dharma talk, when they read lamrim, when they do prostration, water offerings, anything you name it for dharma, they do it whole heartedly. I always imagine that they just like those little monks in the monastry. How powerful merits they have to received Rinpoche’s teaching in such a young age. Like Rinpoche said, they are gonna be ok for the rest of their lives. I am so proud of them and wish my children and many more children that come to Kechara, even adults will be inspired by them.

  27. Jay Jae Chong on Jul 6, 2010 at 10:50 am

Indeed they both are amazingly cute and very adorable too! Many times in the Ladrang either Jutika or Pavara would come up to you and ask you if u needed help. They’ll either be in front of you bringing some of your heavy loads for you or be on the standby to open the door for you as you’re going out.
It is these small little things which amaze you of how well they were brought up and how Rinpoche’s teachings, love and care have affected the growth of these kids. When we’re busy in the Ladrang, Pavara would come up to any of us results eagerly asking what else he can do to help. And many times when you hear that he wants to help already melts your heart!
I pray that Rinpoche’s blessings through the wisdom of Lama Je Tsongkhapa and Dharmapala Setrap continue to flourish their lives with signs of auspiciousness!

  28. - on Jul 6, 2010 at 11:40 am

both Jutika and Pavara are indeed very cute, and very lucky to be able to meet and serve at such a young age. perhaps its something that they have been doing for many past lives and are just continuing it in this one.
it’s certainly a very nice thing to rejoice in to see how the entire family is involved in Dharma. This is the results of Rinpoche’s tireless effort in spreading real Dharma in this region!
I sincerely wish that more and more families would join in the Dharma this way, and that Rinpoche’s Dharma work grow more than ever before…because it has tremendous results and benefits.

  29. Li Kheng on Jul 6, 2010 at 11:52 am

Family is the most basic unit within a society and it plays a vital role in developing an individual. We are all born with imprints from previous lives that form the core/nature of who we are. However, the nurturing every child goes through in the process of growing up can influence the effect these previous lives imprints will cause this lifetime.
Jutika and Pavara must have been born with strong Dharma imprints. Adding to this foundation, they have the luck to be in a family that nurtures them to enhance this “goodness”. So, in a way, the core of who they are is like a car and the nurturing they receive is like the fuel that will determine how far they will progress in this life. I have this feeling that they will go pretty far :)
Kechara House and Tsem Rinpoche have given some Malaysian families the glue to create a valuable harmonious bond that adds to the society. I look forward to witness this pattern spread to more families through the consistent and sincere support of Kechara House volunteers and Rinpoche’s Dharma teachings.

  30. ngeowchin on Jul 6, 2010 at 12:41 pm

I believe Pavara and his brother Jutika and parents are setting a good trend that dharma is perfectly natural for the whole family to be involved in.
In Malaysia, the unfortunate fact is that Buddhism is like for old people- monks are old men, temples are crowded with old people and adults doing things which young people cannot relate at home or anywhere else.
Rinpoche’s vision that dharma can be fun for everyone, young and old ,rich or poor is a pioneering effort here.
Pavara and Jutika are very fortunate to have connected with Rinpoche and Kechara. The signs they have good seeds waiting to ripen has already been observed by us all and mentioned here.

  31. Ethan Chu on Jul 6, 2010 at 12:50 pm

Jutika and Pavara are super adorable! super cute! You can really see the difference with kids in Dharma. They are ever ready so helpful, cheerful and never once I see them throw tantrums whatsoever comparing the kids around their age. Such loveable kids! And it is great to see that Mr.Lam, Choi Sheem and the two are greatly helpful in Kechara and actively involved.
Another great thing is that Pavara wants to be liaison! How great! It shows that the Liaisons have set a great example for the young and aspire them to become one too! This trend will definitely grows and many young will take Dharma as a career. Many many will get benefited.
    Let’s make it happen!

  32. May Ong on Jul 6, 2010 at 1:28 pm

Although Pavara is still a young child, he exhibits maturity beyond his age. He is eager to help anytime and emulates his parents. He is serious when he is at work but being a child, he can be playful and distracted but intelligent and observant. He is a great example of a young sangha.
Tibetan parents encourage their sons to join the monastery as monks from an early age. I understand now why it is an honor for these young children to join early to learn the Dharma in the monastery as they can learn, practice and emulate the seniors learning good habits.
Since the day we are born, we inherit negative habituations that are hard to undo when we mature in age but children learned the most in their early years of their life.
    Monkey See Monkey Do.

  33. Choi Kim Yok on Jul 6, 2010 at 4:00 pm

I enjoyed reading the posts above on the Lam family. Everyone agrees that they are a good example of a dharma family, and in Rinpoche’s words “a Kechara family”. I notice that they are very close knit and enjoy doing things together. The first time I met Choi Sheem was probably in 2008, while I was a volunteer in KSK. I was distributing clothes to a group of homeless at the car park near Bursa Saham in Kuala Lumpur. Then this lady approached me, right after a Malay man came up to me and offered a cheque for RM600.00 – because he saw our people distributing food in the streets. The lady was Choi Sheem. She asked about us, and offered to bring clothes next time. And she did, quite often, coming to the Green House to help us distribute food and clothes. I talked to her about KH activities and once or twice she brought articles to be donated for Wesak day sales. Then for a while I lost touch with her until one day last year, she showed up in KH1 with her family. Since then they have become very active. The boys helped with clearing up from day one.

  34. Peter on Jul 6, 2010 at 4:28 pm

    Terima Kasih Rinpoche!
How wonderful that at such a tender age, their Dharma affinities have ripened so quickly and with favourable supporting factors like Rinpoche’s guidance and the ‘Kecharaian’ family, it should not be too long before they will stand up as the next generation’s line of leaders to continue the bearing and upholding the Dharma ‘torch’. Everytime I meet them, they remind me of unusual young ones in the Sutras and other Buddhist accounts.
Sadhu! to Ms Chooi Sheem & Mr Lam for their fine and infinite efforts in raising them and it is my good fortune to learn from these two boys.

  35. lthium2 on Jul 6, 2010 at 6:31 pm

After reading all the comments on this unique Kechara Kids, remind me of some incidents when I first noticed them. The two Lam’s brothers was helping to put Tantrika table back to the store room with their father look on like a mando, the grin on the small one’s face was like they got a precious gift from someone that night. They’re very new to Kechara then, later as I knew them better, Pavara was always by my side when I was volunteering on setup in Kechara before puja with body and facial expression “ give me!give me! I do! I do!”. At first I was reluctance, they’re kids after all! But with some consistence pestering from them I give way… I felt much lighter later by trusting them sharing my task1 Hey! Kids can be your guru too when we let go of our adult mentality! They’re me team mate from there on.
Pavara, If you’re a Rinpoche one day would you take me as you attendants? : )

Thank you Rinpoche for posting both SUPERCUTE BROTHERS on your blog. I am very impressed by Jutika and Pavara. Both so young boys have started their DHARMA PRACTICE, AND INVOLVE SO MUCH TO HELP FOR THE GROWTH OF KECHARA HOUSE..!! I am sure that the IMPRINTS OF DHARMA in their previous lives must be very strong. WONDERFUL!!!!!!
Of course, Chooi Sheem and Mr Lam both have done a good job and also set up very good example to thier kids. I believe Pavara will becomes Rinpoche’s personal assistant in the near future, so young he could think so much already. It goes to the same to Jutika. CONGRATULATIONS TO LAM FAMILY.
    Love, angel

I have seen Pavara and Jutika around Kechara, but have never properly spoken to either of them. Jutika had taught me the technique to prostrating after Rinpoche’s talk on imprints in June.
The first time I had a proper conversation with Pavara was earlier this week, on Sunday, and boy did he leave a lasting impression in me. Upon sitting down at their table in Old Town White Coffee (it was after the Animal Liberation and I so happen went to the exact restaurant they were at for lunch), this cute young boy approaches me and confidently asks “Who are you friends with on this table? I have not met you before”. I replied “I am friends with everyone but you. What is your name?” He went on to introduce himself with a firm handshake and started quizzing me on the whole organisation of Kechara. “Do you know where is KH2?”, “Do you know where the new gompa is?”, “Where is KC?”, “Who is our spiritual guide?” “Have you been to the Ladrang?”… On and on he went to test this newcomer’s knowledge on dharma, buddha and Kechara. Upon encountering questions and subjects that I wasn’t too sure of, Pavara answered and imparted knowledge onto me with assurance. I had sat down for a mere 20minutes but I was already engrossed in deep conversation with this very matured, bright young chap who like his brother have been very well taught by their parents. I was in awe of the knowledge he possessed. Before bidding goodbye, he told me “come for the Setrap Retreat on Tuesday”. And I went for it.
I have not met kids who are so actively involved in dharma and encountering this is definitely refreshing. Their interest, care and help is so genuine. I am sure that they will be fine future ambassadors in bringing forth Kechara, representing and spreading dharma, and am looking forward to more of their lively presence around. Pavara & Jutika are indeed very very cute boys.

Pavara & Jutika are indeed very very cute and SMART boys. I always see Pavara and Jutika around Kechara, sometime the way they talk you can’t believe the word is from a little young boy like them. I think their parent Chooi Sheem,Mr Lam sets a very good example for them to involve in dharma work to benefit others. How important family education takes place!!
I am so proud of them and wish one day my children and many more children can involve in dharma work, even adults will be inspired by them. I rejoice for them!
So cute Pavara singing Lady Gaga’s song!!!! Hahaha…

Our small little friends from Kechara House, Pavara and Jutika both are absolutely cute. They always follow the parents, listen to their advise and instructions. I see the in most puja sessions, classes and activities in Kechara House.
(Interested and want to find out more about puja?)

This two kids are always curious and have the strong urge to learn new things. They can really absorb Tsem Rinpoche’s teaching like a sponge, and they will repeat to you non-stop what Rinpoche said the day before, what is good and bad.
I saw them many time during the puja, holding a vajra and bell, and both kids would sit through the whole session without making noise. Isn’t that amazing? Not many adults do the same thing and how come young kids like them can do that?
    Amazing!

The first thing that comes to my mind when anyone mentions Pavara and Jutika, are their very cheeky and generous smiles. Both a little shy but it sure doesn’t take long for them to warm up to anyone! I truly admire Chooi Seem and Mr Lam’s effort and ways in how they have chosen to bring up their two very intelligent boys. Both Pavara and Jutika are wonderful examples for not just other children but for grown-ups, like yours truly. It is the how they involved themselves in Dharma activities… no qualms, no complaints, no queries. Thank you for being my little personal reminder  With more little Pavara’s and Jutika’s… KWPC will most definitely grow stronger and reach further, after we are all gone.
ps – by the way, it’s Aunty Fang… not Uncle :)

Speaking about Jutika and Pavara, both of them demonstrated good qualities of thinking and contemplation in Dharma. This can be observed when these kids have lots of things to share with you and would keep talking and most topics are Dharma-related.
They have good memory as they remember what you have said before and are able to repeat after few days later. When they talk, their expression and tone of voice sounds very mature too. They sound just like an old man trap inside a young kid’s body.
Talking to them brings much pleasure because they will not cry and scream like other spoilt brats. They are always polite and courteous.
I hope when they grow up and be someone that benefit society.

Pavara is always a good boy. He is very smart, adorable and cute. I sure hope he can meet his dream and become a liaison of H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. In Manjushri Kids Class, he has always been an extremely active and knowledgeable young boy. I also want to be a liaison one day. But the first thing I have to do is to transform into a better person to become a good liaison in the future. Pavara is a very good singer, haha, I think he would become the future Lady Gaga too. Pavara is really very good as a kid. Keep on going with all your glorious help towards Kechara House and help make the glorious Dharma grow!

So ADORABLE! The Dharma in these 2 young boys are truly amazing and inspiring. When we were in Kechara House 1 yesterday night for Setrap’s retreat, Pavara was walking around and passing sheets of paper to those who don’t have it. He would actually go through the books and papers in our hands just to make sure!
I remembered another time when everyone was reciting the precious Lamrim to clear the obstacles for the new Gompa, they were there to recite as well till wee hours of the morning. Choi Seem even brought them pajamas and sleeping bags in case they got tired. The young boys’are an inspiration to all the other younger generations. Keep up the good work and benefit more people now and in the future especially when Kechara World Peace Centre is up and running SOON!

  44. SK Yap on Jul 7, 2010 at 4:16 pm

Talking about educating kids with Dharma when they are young, both of their parents, Chooi Seem and Mr Lam did a good job and set a good example of how Dharma can benefit their entire family.
Both Chooi Seem and Mr Lam set a great example by attending most of the puja, c Dharma classes, volunteering in Kechara House, cleaning, washing, help with carrying and moving. So the kids are definitely influenced by their parents in a positive way!
The current formal school education system we have at the moment are focused on “producing” and “creating” self-centered children by making kids happy through fulfilling all their individual wishes and needs. It doesn’t matter whether their needs are fair or overboard. This presents a lot of questions.
Is this what our future society going to be? Kids growing up to be selfish and thinking of just making money for themselves only?
    Paul

  45. SK Yap on Jul 7, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Regarding kids growing up to be selfish and thinking of making money only? What is everybody’s opinion on this?
We could make our future with better hopes by making a better society for the future?
Saving the earth and curbing pollution?
Prevent animal cruelty (see http://www.kechara.com/animal-sanctuary/) ?
Help the homeless and poor (see http://www.kechara.com/soup-kitchen/)?
Finding peace and solace for everyone? (http://www.kechara.com/peace-centre/)?
We have to start educating our kids. Just like Jutika and Pavara parents send their kids to Kechara House, get spiritual knowledge and training from H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche in Kechara House.
We spend much of our time on mundane affairs which brings no results to us at the end. It is such a waste of more time and effort. We should love and protect our children the right way by giving them Dharma now!
    Paul

  46. SK Yap on Jul 7, 2010 at 4:18 pm

Most of times, we have forgotten how to teach our kids to focus out. When they focus out, they become a better and happier person. By teaching them to be kinder and loving towards all living beings, and not to be greedy, ignorant and have hatred towards others is most important.
Kids nowadays sit in front of the TV for hours, surfing net, playing computer games, going for fast food, competing with the neighbours’ kid for a better bicycle and Game Boy, and perhaps putting others down who didn’t do well in the school exams. All this is a sign of a selfish person, would we want our families and society at large to be filled with individuals like that? Will the kids respect the parents and the elders when they grow up? How scary!!!
Our kids need a better future, our next generation must have something to hope for so we must instill the dharma when they are young. We must make sure they have the right conduct before its too late. Kechara House Manjushri Kids Class (http://www.kechara.com/kechara-house/education/kids/) teach your kids to be a better and kinder person, respect the parents and the elders, together, we can create a better future.

Evert time I see both Pavara and Jutika at Kechara House, they are always happy, jumping and chirpy. When this two little kids see anybody, they will run to you, grab your hand and talk non-stop, like they have met an old friend.
Talk about imprints and previous life’s practice, Jutika and Pavara are both very adorable and friendly, which makes them stand out from the rest. I remember once Tsem Rinpoche joked with their parents that he loves these kids so much, and jokingly asked them to give the kids to him if they decided they don’t want them anymore. Ha! You know what I thought? I thought Rinpoche was planning to train these two kids, and when they grow up, they will become knowledgeable Geshes that will give dharma teachings in Kechara House to benefit others.

I absolutely love these two brothers. However, they can be somewhat “overactive” for me but that is merely my shortcomings as a boring adult now! Hehehe. I too used to be a hyper active child and If I could I would have actually climbed walls!!!
To want to be a Liaison or to work in the Ladrang is truly a remarkable aspiration to have especially for a kid of Pavara’s age. How wonderful this is! Goes to show that when one starts a child in Dharma activities from an early age, amazing causes for good karma to ripen and paving the way to gain more merits in the future is inevitable. Kudos to Jutika and Pavara’s parents (and all parents who do the same) for their selflessness in starting their children young on a good path.
I know as a Godfather it is difficult to deny a child his or her samsaric pleasures which brings no merits but more causes for suffering in their future. Hence I take this as a lesson to try to plant more seeds of such nature in my own godchildren and all those around me!

Pavara and Jutika are really cool kids, I like them a lot. They have cool parents too, everytime I see them around in Kechara House or at the ladrang, they bring a smile to my face. I have developped that little routine with the boys to greet each other with a “high five” (or two or three). They are so fortunate to have parents like they do, that are giving them a gateway to Dharma from such a young age, as well as being an example of Dharma practitionners.
It is no surprise that Pavara wishes to become a liaison, yet it still comes as a great joy.
Rinpoche said many times that Dharma can be a career, well, it seems as if children can see that it is a career, otherwise why would they wish to become a liaison like other kids want to become fire-fighters or pilots. Now Dharma is not only a career, it is also a vocation in the heart of some lucky children!

Pavara has strong inclination towards Dharma and he together with his brother Jutika are regular attendees of all of Kechara’s activities in Kechara House and Ladrang. Pavara also got himself in the top ten list of the recently completed Prostration Retreats. His brother, Jutika won third price.
Both Pavara and Jutika were very blessed to have their parents guiding and nurturing them into Dharma at this very young age.
Classic example of family very involved in Dharma and the imprints from previous lives are very strong. Mr. Lim and Chooi Sheem knows the best protection for both their two children will be bringing them into Dharma when both of them are gone. Both Pavara and Jutika will grow up into a good kid. Pavara and his family will inspire many many more families into Dharma.

How cute! Since the time i received the forwarded sms of Pavara wanting to be a liaison till now, each time i think about it, i chuckle in delight. Not only that, but what a wonderful dharma family. I admire Mr and Mrs Lam for going the right direction in bringing up their two lovely boys. Most parents would cringe at the thought of any of their kids giving up “normal” life to work in dharma. But this family actually grooms their kids to do so. Anytime when i go to Kechara House, the whole Lam family is there! What better way for family bonding than this. I am sure their example will be an inspiration to many!

I still remember first time I talked to Pavara, it was right after my first puja. He & his brother were the youngest of the puja team. He gave me a very good first impression & made me feel very welcome. He walked right up to me after the puja to introduce himself & ask me how I get to know kechara & went on to give me a lengthy explaination of how he come to know kechara. He was very excited share- so genuine in caring for others, extremely cheerful & full of energy.
If he becomes a liason,he’ll do very well. I see the Lam family everytime I come to Kechara, they are very committed. I get inspired seeing their commitment to dharma. It does get me out of my laziness seeing them doing so much. I wish them well & I’m sure they’ll continue to be great inspiration to many.

  54. Elaine Cheah on Jul 8, 2010 at 1:46 am

Pavara and Jutika are really lucky to be home schooled. That way, they have maximum interface with their parents, which is good for their development. That must be a reason why they can hang out at the centre till the wee hours and be where their parents are all the time. Why, they have flexi hours!
I wish my two kids can hang out with me all day long and I know they would want that too. But their time is a constant struggle between school, co-curricular activities, extra-curricular activities, tuition, homework, and what not. Talk about not having a life! I’d love for them to always be around to attend all the pujas, talks and volunteer, but then got to consider that they have to go to school the next day and how do I make them stay up that late? I could perhaps quit my job and teach them though I doubt I would make a good teacher, but who’s going to feed us? I’d probably go slightly mad. I guess it’s a decision every parent has to make. That’s Samsara I guess.
But I do realise the importance of exposing our kids to dharma as early on as possible. Therefore I’m all for my kids attending our Manjushri Kid’s Class from which they (and I, indirectly) have benefitted a lot. I try to get them involved in activities and to volunteer as much as possible. Taking myself as an example, I don’t want them to spend ½ their lives collecting all sorts of negative karma, making countless wrong decisions and then hurting themselves and suffering the effects for the second ½ of their lives. If I could spare them what I’d gone through, I would. So I’m eternally grateful for the precious gift of the dharma, for my Guru Tsem Rinpoche for nurturing us along the way and Kechara for providing the positive environment for our growth. We’ve been blessed by the Three Jewels.

  55. Ashlee on Jul 8, 2010 at 2:00 am

Choi Seem & Lam must be very proud of both their kids. It is very meritorious & meaningful for the whole family to engage in dharma together. As Rinpoche always mention, we as parents will not be able to protect our kids. We can never be by their side 24 hours everyday to ensure their safety and that they do not engage in bad activities. Hence, it is very important to instill Dharma to our kids so that they will grow up having the morals and wisdom to act appropriately and not waste their lives away.
Both Jutika & Pavara are very active participants in KH activities. They are also regular students at Manjushri Kids Class. They are very fun kids and they certainly don’t act their age; very helpful in guiding the adults when in comes to pujas.
This reflects well on the quality upbringing by Choi Seem & Lam.
I’m sure they will inspire many families out there.
Kudos to Pavara for his aspiration to be a Liason to serve Rinpoche & spread Dharma.

Bright and Sharp – that’s Jutika and Pavara! Their unusual Sanskrit names certainly fit them like a glove! They are a burst of sunshine and wit, and rays of inspirations to all!
Always helping everyone in the most unassuming and natural way – they are like the customer care and service of Kechara = they always appear and pop up like Magic! Chipping with with enthusiasm and joyous effort from cleaning up the Gompa, to setting up for Pujas, helping to light the incense, bringing water to participants; the list goes on…
What’s great about them is their high EQ the way they “just know” how to go about assisting and exiting – being so aware of the people and surroundings – something that is so incredible for kids at their age. Their simple acts of sincerity, generosity have touched many.
Like tonight – ( as in the other previous retreat ) they encourage and inspire participants by prostrating together alongside, with quiet determination, endurance and enthusiastic effort!
It is a joy to be with them! And I am very glad to have the good fortune to be their friends, learning with them and from them!

I have always thought that the children in Kechara are very special. For them to meet pure Lama and pure Dharma at such a young age, must be the result of their past prayers, aspiration and pure practice. How lucky they are. From young they will be equipped with the Dharma knowledge to deal with challenges in life and have the luxury of ancient Buddhist wisdom to guide them early in their lives. How many of us who have met Dharma later in life have thought that if only we knew Dharma earlier, we would have made many of the decisions we have made earlier in our lives differently and have different results today. If we had knew Dharma earlier, how much time, heart ache and wasted endeavor could have been saved and how much more progress in our spiritual practice could have been achieved. As our precious human life is limited, meeting Dharma early in life is indeed a head start for spiritual practice. I rejoice for all the lucky children of Kechara like Pavara and Jutika.

Pavara and Jutika – the Dynamic Dharma Duo! Like Rinpoche says, these two are very intelligent – Jutika writes better than a lot of “professional” journalists I know!!
It’s refreshing, inspiring and so wonderful to see these incredible children engage in the Dharma, and that Pavara wants to be a PA is uncomfortably amusing: most people chase after dead-end aspirations and search for happiness in all the wrong place and it takes years – well into adulthood – to realise that these aspirations are ultimately meaningless. Yet here is a boy who has it figured out at such a young age – how wonderfully insane :)
I hope Pavara goes on to fulfil his wish, and with the apparent level of dedication that both boys seem to possess, I’m sure they’ll go on to achieve great things.
Well done guys, and god luck with your futures!
    Warmest regards,
    Sandy

Hey everyone, it’s not just about how lovely Jutika and Pavara are but also and perhaps more importantly, what FANTASTIC PEOPLE their parents CHOI SHEEM and LAM must be to have such wonderful children. (What is their secret and can they please share it with all the other monster parents and their even more monsterous children out there in the world).
Usually, I’m really rather put off by how much parents don’t give two hoots about how their kids turn out. Parents dump their kids at day care, don’t seem to bother how rude, ill mannered and selfish their kids are growing up to be (oh, don’t we all know some fine examples) and really don’t have any real concern for any of their emotional, spiritual, mental welfare. Just dress them up, feed them and pack them off to school, where someone else will look after them awhile. Why do people even have children in the first place, really?
Choi Sheem and Lam exemplify what it means to want the best for your children and to give them the best kind of all-rounded growing experiences so that they can also grow up and give back to the world: education as well as spiritual lessons, the freedom to play and be joyful, and the opportunities to contribute to something bigger and better than the mundane things.
I have seen how Choi Sheem and Lam relate to their kids as adults and equals, and this is why Pavara and Jutika relate so well with anyone, even if they still both under 10. Their parents have such a giving nature and this is reflected very strongly in the way the kids too are always so helpful, friendly, outward thinking and carry none of that selfishness you see so frequently in many kids these days.
These are the only two kids in the world I’ve ever, ever met who make me think that maybe there is some joy in having kids after all.

Dear Jutika & Pavara, both of you never fail to amaze me, with your bright smiles, always happy to help anyone at KH. It doesnt matter if the broom is taller than you or the box is bigger than you, both of you always offer to help. And so much energy you both have. Jutika, you put the rest of us to shame with the commitment and determination to complete the prostrations. Real champions.

I know we’re not supposed to play favourites or anything, but these two boys are my absolute favourites! So cute and like Rinpoche said, uninhibited. They are a real joy to be around. And they are great reminders for us to watch ourselves, because they absorb eeeeeeeeverything like a sponge and they are so observant! I’ve lost track of the number of times Pavara has found me carrying a lighter for someone else and asked me, “Are you part of the S-family?!?!” (Smoking Family)…something so small as a lighter!
Congratulations on Choi Sheem and Uncle Lam raising their children well, the boys are very lucky to have parents like them who care so much that they teach them dharma from such a young age. Much like Jamie, this is one of the few examples I can think of where some good has come of having children.

Pavara loves to make candle offering before the start of every MKC class. He is possibly one of the most helpful, expressive and talkative kids in MKC. It is seldom to find an 8 year old kid who can quite comfortably engage in meaningful conversation with a 45 year-old like me.
Both Jutika and Pavara have such strong Dharma affinity and imprints. How many kids will be happy hanging out with adults in a Buddhist Center and doing prayers? Apparently they also excel in sports such as swimming, cycling, running and rugby too. They really have brought a breath of fresh air into Kechara House and MKC. Without proper nurturing, I have no doubt that Pavara can fulfil his wish in the not so distant future….. a liaison of H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche.

  63. Deborah on Jul 8, 2010 at 5:40 pm

Wow, such an awesome ambition to have. The good old days everyone wanted to grow up to be doctors, lawyers and engineers.
It’s amazing that such a young child can see far & wide and beyond his years. Even beyond many of our years. His selflessness and enthusiasm on benefitting another human being is something so pure and innocent and only something a child would be capable of feeling and thinking.
However, contrary to the recent hot topic, to me personally, as a mother of 2 kids, a child is ALWAYS a blessing and the hope that we can guide them on a good path in life is what parents strive for. So really there’s ALWAYS GOOD that comes from kids. How can there not be when they are so inncoent and pure. It’s only when adults, be it parents or the people around them that fail to guide them, or are negative role models that cause kids to turn ‘monstrous’

  64. Paris on Jul 8, 2010 at 6:53 pm

Paul, I totally agree with what you say, and I have also left a comment about how fabulous Choi Sheem and Lam are for giving their kids such a well-rounded and compassionate education that encourages them to focus out.
I guess it’s really not a kid’s fault when they grow up to be horrible selfish monsters because their parents allow them to. It is nice that instead of just dumping their kids at home in front of the TV or on their game boys, parents like C.S. and Lam bring their kids right into the heart of a community which is entirely focused outwards on helping others. What a nice way to grow up, being surrounded by the thought that we should make a difference to the people around us.
Being young and bright, kids pick up on the subtlest of energies and attitudes and it is clear that Jutika and pavara are already reflecting back exactly what they are absorbing by being in a spiritual environment. Such a lovely kind of childhood – I hope Jutika and Pavara will always remember us when they’re grown up!

He looks like he’s ready to be an assistant/liaison already, judging by the pictures. The glasses looking intelligent, nice collared shirt, pink watch. All business.
Makes me want to re-evaluate the need for stuffy, up-tight adult behavior… What is the result of being so… adult? It really can’t be good for us.

  66. Wan Wai Meng on Jul 8, 2010 at 8:13 pm

There is a tendency to view home schooled children as developing to being introverted as they might have a less chance to interact with other children who go to conventional schools. Jutika and Pavara do not fit the bill. They are very intelligent and bright always want to be of help. When E-Division was back in Ladrang, when they arrive they literally lit up the energy of the place with their unencumbered enthusiasm. I find them to be like two highly charged kittens out for some mischief.
Mr And Mrs Lam are very fortunate to have two very bright kids, and we at Kechara are fortunate to have another dharma family to be a part of us.

Family bonding had always been a great way to create a good future for next generations. This had been proven in Pavara and Jutika. I only met them a few times and I find the two siblings are well behaved and very bright.
They are always together with their parents going to Ladrang and KH and early education is very important to shape their future. At the age of 9, Pavara wanted to be a Liaison. What we had always try to become when we are young? doctors? lawyers? scientists? Isn’t this something great and cool to hear someone as young as age of 9 thinking of taking on great and heavy responsibilities? We hope to see this to come to a reality in near future. Hope our little Lady Gaga will stay focused and grow up with great dharma knowledge.

I met Jutika and Pavara at the Setrap Puja. I remember Pavara coming to ask if I’ve written down my name for the attendance list. Like everyone else, I find them really really cute. And the thought I have that night after meeting with them is that, these kids are acting a bit more matured than their age. And as I get to know them better I find them to be very intelligent and they interact very well with others. Both of them behave very well and always bring a smile to everyone’s face. I told my wife May that the kids that go to Setrap puja with me are really cool. And I want for Iris (my lil’ princess) to join the Manjushri kid’s class once she’s old enough. My reason for Iris to start early is because I see the way Jutika and Pavara behaves. They are adorable and very sensible. I think, an early start and exposure to the Dharma will help build a strong foundation for their future path. Learning and practising the Dharma from a young age will strengthen their young mind to differentiate from what is right and what’s wrong. I feel that after listening to the Dharma, I’ve a different way in looking at the world around me and have better and positive motivation when I do things. If I feel this and I am 30 years old, it must be much much better if the childrens can learn at a younger age. Jutika and Pavara is the real life example. I feel very happy for Mr. and Mrs. Lam to have such lovely kids. :)
    With much love and respect,

They are such cuties both Pavara and Justika. they are very intelligent and talkative too. I remembered on one of those food distribution rounds in “green house” they will help in food distribution. They will have so much to say and asked so many questions.
Good for you Pavara that you already know what you want to do when you grow up and have set your spirit pattern to be a liaison to take care of Rinpoche. In many ways the two children are quite special, at their age to see them so involved in the center’s activities and dharma service. Most children their age would be so into computer games and video games. It is good that he is learning to sing too because Rinpoche may want him to serenade him.

  71. lanse on Jul 9, 2010 at 3:13 am

I admire them a lot. At such a young age, they are able to learn, practice dharma and even helping in dharma work. They are cute and active as other kids at their age but from the way they say and do things, it is quite obvious that something inside their mind are different from the majority of others. Perhaps they perceive things differently?!
What actually creates the difference? Why even many adults can’t do that? Is it Dharmic imprint from previous life? Or is it because they are home schooling and both Mr Lam and Choi Sheem have showed them very good example? What if they are brought up in different family and yet still have the same Dharmic imprint? What if they are sent to ordinary school and exposed to many children from different background…? Will they still be the same?
Or, is it all because of their previous lives dharma practices, so they have strong Dharmic imprint and they had created very good karmic causes to have every conducive condition to be able to meet dharma at this early ages?
How I wish more and more younger generation will follow their path, then our world will definitely be a better place to live.

Both Jutika and Pavara must have very strong karmic imprint from their previous lives in order to have the merits to meet Rinpoche at such tender age in this life. Furthermore, they are borne in a conducive condition to learn Dharma and get actively involved in various activities in KH, along with their parents. How wonderful!
I remember the first time I met Jutika at Lord Setrap puja in KH2, at that time Lily Ng was there too, we asked Jutika for his name, after he told us, we thought we have heard him wrongly, coz the name sounds very unusual to us…it neither sounds like Chinese nor English name, so Lily re-confirmed by asking him jokingly, “Are you sure that’s your name?” Anyway, I think both Jutika & Pavara have very unique names indeed.
I agree with David, Pavara does look like a walking cartoon character that talks…haha! I think he looks like the cartoon character “Chicken Little”, such a cutie pie!!! (^.^)
It’s really nice to have these 2 cuties around KH…they are people-oriented, bubbly, cheerful and bright…sometimes, cheeky too! =P They are ever ready to help anyone around the Centre, and never fail to delight people with their cute innocent remarks and questions. They sure do have the charm to brighten-up people’s day.
Overall, Jutika & Pavara are very well-behaved and well-mannered kids…Choi Sheem & Mr. Lam have done a good job as a parents, especially so by introducing Dharma to their children at such young age, whereby learning curve is at the peak…as kids are very pure and absorb knowledge like a sponge, and hence, can be easily mould into whomever their parents want them to be. So, Dharma is definitely the “Best Gift” any parents can give to their children…that’s for sure!
As such, fellow Kecharian parents should bring their kids to MKC class and other kids- related activities organized by KH to implant Dharma seeds into them from young, so that their children can have a good head-start in life. We should also encourage other parents out there (non-Kecharian) to do the same too…for the sake of the future generations’ inner peace & happiness…which could possibly lead to World Peace ultimately!

    Dear Pavara and Jutika,
Both of you are setting good example to both the kids and the adults, keep up the good work!
    Dear Choi Seem & Lam,
You have given a broader perspective to the word education and set a real life example that with proper guidance kids can learn through an unconventional way, at anytime, anywhere, beyond the limitation of an institution. Bravo!
The kids’ demeanors are the direct reflection and representation of their parents, looking how Jutika and Pavara carry themselves shows that you have been setting very good example in various aspects.
It will be great if you can share with other parents on the home schooling methods/ modules that you have used/developed.
    Regards,
    Anna

I always meet Ms. Chooi Sheem and Mr. Lam in KH.They always there whenever KH have any event or activities to help there together with their two kids,Jutika and Pavara.
Jutika and Pavara have so much merits to meet dharma at this young age. They are so lucky to have family that actively involved in dharma activities. They have shown us a good example for all Kecharian.
It is a good way to bring up children by showering them with Dharma knowledge and guide them to the right path.
The happiness and benefits they gain from dharma is definately lasting and not just pampering them with material thing that is impermanance.

  75. patsygooi on Jul 9, 2010 at 4:36 pm

Pavara and Jutika are two adorable cuties who have so much interest in dharma. It’s always very refreshing to see these two young boys actively participating in most of Kechara events. And they can sit for long hours during pujas, retreats and dharma talks. Excellent! I am very glad to see Chooi Seem and Mr Lam providing their children with the best gift “The gift of Dharma”.
Jutika had even won a placing in prostrations during Dzambala Retreat and Pavara already planning to be a Liason at this young age. Chooi Seem and Mr Lam had set a good example and paved the path of dharma for their children. It shows that age is not a factor towards spiritual growth. Congratulations to the Lam Family!!!

  76. henry ooi on Jul 9, 2010 at 5:03 pm

The first time I met Pavara he immediately asked for my name and who I was. He is unabashed, friendly, helpful and everything else that others wrote about here, of course Jutika too. Mr Lam and Chooi Sheem are bringing them up very well, even home schooling them.
This family of four is a shining beacon of a happy dharma family. They go as a family to volunteer at Kechara depts. as well as to dharma talks, pujas, activities, etc.
Pavara, you are creating the causes to be a Liaison to H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, perhaps as a personal attendant. Keep it up chilly padi!
    To coin Rinpoche: Mumu, cute!
    How about you Jutika?

  77. Cynthia Lee on Jul 9, 2010 at 8:33 pm

One of the things that I first noticed in KH was how well spoken and smart the kids were. They are not so annoying as some I know :0. They attended pujas and they have these cute serkym sets that I am envious of. They have fun outings, art classes, wisdom classes (Manjushri Kids’ Class where they learn to chant Mantras which help you remember things better … boy do we all need this in school!) and they even attend Dharma talks till late night. So excellent! I wish I grew up in an environment like this where there is play + spirituality + learning.
Pavara and Jutika is real cute. One of them is real naughty too. It must be Jutika. He’s still young. So forgive him. But they like coming to chat with me (even though I am not so fond of kids). Because of a few of them, I am starting to feel a little bit different about kids now. Requirements are they need to speak, act and behave like an adult. Ok, they passed la … they cleaned my room in e-Div.
You will be a Liaison, Pavara. I so see it.

  78. mingHY on Jul 9, 2010 at 8:47 pm

How cute. It is a well known fact that home schooled children in the USA (where it is very popular),have an intelligence level of 2 years above their peers and although I haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting these two fantastic boys, it certainly seems that they live up to the bill. Along with their great parents , the Lam family serves as a model Dharmic family for many young families to be inspired and exemplifies that Dharma can be fun even for kids at such a young age, and even inspires us adults to see the kid in ourselves to bring out the best in Dharma to benefit others. With their honest and open attitude, we can learn from them too.

  79. martin on Jul 9, 2010 at 9:10 pm

There is not doubt that both the boys Pavara and Jutika are very special. I first met Jutika a few weeks ago and it was he who introduced himself to me having observed that i was new. He asked for my name and how i got to know of Kechara. I told him my name is Martin and i was brought there by Su Ming. At which point, he chuckled and said ‘Martin the magnificent…trapped by Su Ming…hehehehe”. I am still working that one out.
One observation: if a kid like Pavara has the ambition to be Rinpoche’s Liaison, doesn’t that mean that he regards a Liaison as a hero? And serving Rinpoche to be a worthy career worth pursuing? I think so…and i agree with him.
So like Pavara and Jutika, i take my hat off to all Kechara Liaisons and full-timers. A big Thank You to all of you.

  80. Patpat0809 on Jul 9, 2010 at 11:36 pm

Pavara and Jutika are very cute indeed.I will always remember how they helped out at the KSA booth during the Grand Setrap & Dzambala Puja at the Chinese Assembly Hall Two Little Mascot .Both of them teached the newbies how to roll mantras and even explained to them what KSA does and whereabout and they can even name every Buddha that was present there.People was so impressed that they thank them again and again .They are already practicing to promote Kechara and dharma at such a young age.Having good parents like Choi Sheem and Mr Lam and with the guidance of Rinpoche,Pavara you are definitely creating the cause to be a Liaison in the future. May your wish come true.

  81. Roland on Jul 10, 2010 at 1:53 am

When I first show this article, very inspiring because I can never imagine a young boy can be some caring and wish to benefit others people, plus he wish to become a liaison to Rinpoche, which is doing Dharma work. Amazing to me, because doing Dharma work, to me is direct application of Buddha’s teaching to benefit other people’s life. I really wish one day I can meet him. Why? I believe there is a lot of things I can learn from him. Thank you for this heart warming article.

  82. Roland on Jul 10, 2010 at 4:24 am

I wish and believe one day Pavara will be a liasion or a great dharma work person in promoting Buddha teaching to many people.

  83. Adeline Tan on Jul 10, 2010 at 11:59 am

Mr Lam and Chooi Sheem are very lucky to have kids like jutika and pavara, they are special kids and even their names are unsual. The 2 boys always follow their parents to Kechara House to do volunteery work. Whenever there’s big pujas or retreats in the center, they are ever ready to give their helping hands by putting cushions to the floor and bringing offerings to the altars etc… The whole family also actively participated in the Lamrim recitation, prostration and water offerings. They are very dharma orientated because of their parents’ involvement in dharma activities. The younger boy Pavara is hyperactive and also talkative. I have seen him talking to new comers and helping them to get the prayer books. Maybe they can be the liaison of the Kechara Care too other than in Tsem Ladrang. Hehe…

  84. ash ng on Jul 10, 2010 at 7:02 pm

Both Jutika and Pavara have inspired me during the Dzambala retreat. With such devotion, they had done hundreds and thousands of prostrations effortlessly. it’s really amazing how these kids can do that. How i wish i have met the Dharma earlier in my early youth. I was a kid with much trouble and problems. Grew up in a family with much pain and violence, there are so many negative imprints from the past which made me to become an adult who is introvert, anti social, quiet, self absorption with not many friends and worst of all with so many ‘wrong projections’ which causes so much pain and sufferings for myself and to others.
Fortunately, i met Tsem Rinpoche who patiently and caringly taught me how to mend and open up my ‘damaged’ heart, nurtured me to be a loving person and to forgive those who have hurt me in the past. Come to think of it, i’m just like these kids except that i’m an adult now with much past imprints.
Thank you Rinpoche, i have been saved by You, a living Buddha. Tashi Delek :)

From Sengpiow: Yesterday, Tsem Rinpoche went for a morning walk in a park near his residence, and saw a dying fish in the stream. Rinpoche went near the fish to recite mantra and blow the mantra on the fish, so that the fish can take a good rebirth by the blessing of the mantras…Then Rinpoche saves some trapped birds and bat! watch the video here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvh-r3cW2zw

Today’s advice is meant to help you and arm you against negative energies. I have come across many types of spirit or black magic afflictions. Some were genuine, some were paranoia or people wanting to blame their failures on something else. If powerful positive beings exist, then why not negative. If good beings help you then negative would harm. The world is filled with both types in humans and non-humans. Depending on our karma we can attract both. Better to be safe. Do our prayers to Tsongkapa/Setrap daily. It can only help never harm. It can prevent in some cases. I wish everyone safety, luck, merits and spiritual growth. TR

    (Wednesday, May 16. 2012 03:45 PM)
Negative energies or beings that follow you back from ‘dirty’ places or places of vice where the owners may keep spirits for success can be attracted to you and follow you home. It may not affect you as your merits are ok..but it can affect a family member or friend. They could create disharmony, fighting for no reasons. accidents, fear, lack of sleep, loss of appetite, change in moods, mood swings, anger, electrical problems, loss of memory (severe cases). I have encountered many of these sorts in the last 20 years of meeting people. Some ppl had pots and pans banged at night in their homes, or when they are in bed, something is always touching them. Some of these cases solved when they followed suggestions to overcome. Some do not follow and the situations gets worse. So if should protect and bless ourselves with GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA/MIGTSEYMA/SETRAP PRACTICE DAILY. We have nothing to lose and it increases wisdom, patience and merits. TR
************ Even when you don’t need to go far, sometimes we go to certain hawker places, wet markets, places that slaughter alot of animals (very dirty and negative energy), places with gambling, or very down places like clubs (drinking/heartbreaks/sadness), or places that have alot of fighting or pain, death, hospitals, funerals,etc.. we should bless ourselves before going and after going…sometimes we are sensitive and when we go we can attract wrong energies or negative spirits. They can follow us and hide in our homes for years or months before they ‘appear’. It can affect our family too. So very good to do GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA DAILY, FOLLOWED BY MIGTSEYMA AND THEN CONCLUDE WITH SETRAP PRAYERS/MANTRA AND BLACK TEA. You shouldn’t think prayers of these sorts daily is a chore or lots of work…you should think it is protection. If you are affected it might take months or years to ‘clean’ you again..so it is worth it to do your protection daily and have your pendants to bless you. TR

When we travel alot, we pass through many places, many buildings, many vehicles, sit in many seats, stay at many places. Hundred or thousands of beings used these items and places.. All these may have negative energy or residual energy of the previous person that can affect you if you are sensitive. Sometimes if you are very sensitive, in some cases, these energies can make you blur in which case you are considered polluted. It is very important then to take holy water daily. Wash with holy water (can get from Pastors or Ladrang) and recite Manjushri’s praise daily 3x and mantra 5 or more rounds till you feel cleared. You may do wrathful black Manjushri or peaceful Manjushri. Up to you. Before you travel it is good to bless your clothes, bags, luggage and personal items with GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA/MIGTSEYMA/ SERKYM OF SETRAP. After reciting the migtseyma/setrap mantra, blow on your clothes and items and feel you are protected. This would safeguard you before you travel. TR
***************** Also excellent and modern are Buddha pendants. After you pick a Buddha pendant, have one of the Pastors of Kechara bless the pendant. Then keep the pendant well and wear is excellent. If you do not have access to a Pastor, then keep your pendant on your shrine and do GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA/MIGTSEYMA/SETRAP SERKYM to consecrate your pendants. After consecration one wears the pendant that looks like a beautiful piece of jewellery but actually they are powerful protection pendants because they contain the consecrated image of a powerful manifestation of enlightenment-a Buddha. One can have a few pendants is ok. But one should get the best pendant one can from made from the best material and think the good material is offered to Buddha. If the pendants get stained due to sweat, then very good to clean thinking you are purifying your karma. One should make sure all your loved ones wear a blessed pendant. If Buddhas are beneficial on your shrine, very good on your body also. TR
*********************** Chakras are good to keep. Chakras are special mantras, mandalas and prayers of a certain Buddha. Then it is folded then sealed with 5 colored strings during pujas. Puja and consecration of the chakras can take 1-3 days where the diety is invited and abide within each chakra. Chakras should not get wet, otherwise they can be kept anywhere or worn anywhere. Wearing chakras is very good, but to fully activate their energy, one should recite the mantra, prayer and liturgy of one’s diety. If you don’t have a specific deity, you do GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA/MIGTSEYMA/SETRAP and this will ‘activate’ the power of the chakra fully. It is also very good to do this. Chakras are wonderful gifts. They an be worn, kept in car, office, wallet or anyhwere..They are very holy and very effective. TR
    ************
Most important when you travel alot or stay in many hotels, keep a dukkar or hayagriva chakra with you. It is good to bless the room with recitation of GURU YOGA OF TSONGKAPA. Recite migtseyma 21x and do do black tea to your protector. Then go to sleep. It is a good way to purify the room with the above. If you do it wilth faith with tremendous confidence you will be protected from negative energies. This is a easy practice to protect yourself when you have to travel alot and stay in many different types of hotels. Many people stay in hotels with many types of energies. Sometimes the residual energy will stay and affect another person. Very good to do this. TR
************* When people sleep they should not have offering bowls, empty altar cups, empty plates, cups and bowls around one’s bed. Also when you sleep, try not to place your hands on your chest. These actions attract one type of spirit. Once they come, they hang around for quite a while. Make sure your altar does not have empty items on it. Make sure there are not empty items around you when going to sleep or around your bed. TR

I haven’t lived in Gaden since 1992 when I was sent to Malaysia. I love Gaden and loved so much living there. I like so many things about Gaden. Conversations would not be lonely and easy. Whatever I talk about the monks immediately understand. I do not have to face ‘opposition’ , doubts, hundreds of questions, and every detail simple about the dharma or dharma work has to be explained. I miss that so much. I am not lonely for company, but I am lonely for familiarity very much. I was very content, at peace and in my element in Gaden. I never knew or imagined I would have to go to Malaysia, stay and take on heavy responsibilities. I am not complaining but I love Gaden, the monks, my teachers, the great masters, the senior monks whom I have many friends. I miss them so much. So so much. I love and respect the great old monks, Rinpoches and spectacular Geshes. Gaden was a city of practitioners and I was home. Lord Tsongkapa’s presence pervades the whole Gaden. TR

I am looking forward to building our Vajra Yogini stupa in the future and he will assist us. It will be my/our first outdoor stupa in this life. Very beneficial and purifying for us. TR

Heruka! We say we want to improve yet we don't hold our vows. We promise to keep our samaya, yet our promise to our earlier promises laxed. We want to experience only good results yet we hold onto our face. We want wealth, yet we give nothing. We want success, yet we offer tiny offerings to the Three Jewels. We say we have great faith in our Guru, yet when his assignments are difficult we run. We say we want a good rebirth yet all our actions are motivated by self gain. Heruka, Heruka, Heruka, how are we to recieve your blessings when our three doors are closed tightly by selfishness, ignorance and anger?~Tsem Rinpoche

Bryan gave me an incredible MOTHER'S DAY GIFT. It is so auspicious. He had someone draw HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche's sacred face onto the body of Buddha Vajradharma. Buddha Vajradharma is the form Buddha takes to teach the immaculate and fautless tantra of Vajra Yogini. In Vajra Yogini's tantra and meditations, you must visualize your guru in the form of Vajradharma to make offerings both inner, outer & secret offerings daily to one's tantric guru & to meditate on Him in that form. It is very integral part of the practice. If you do the meditations well on your guru in this particular form during the practice of the sadhana..you can gain tremendous realizations and control over one's mind to leave the body when you want. So getting this picture today was an omen if Kecharians fulfill their responsibilities, then Vajra Yogini's practice will spread in this region. Very good omen. I feel this strongly. Bryan really planned out this gift & surprised me!! I will put in Chamang Ladrang in the future. THANK YOU BRYAN!!TR

Back in New Jersey over 30 years ago, there lived a lady down the street who was also a student of my teacher. Her name is Carmen (she is a nun now and her ordination name is: Ani Thupten). She had a nice size library of books and many dharma books. I loved the Dharma books!! I would spend so much time browsing and getting snippets of each book from Carmen. I use to ride by bike down to chat with her and borrow her books and it took me like 5 mins by bike..She lived on the same street. I would read dharma books voraciously and write down my questions. I would call Carmen almost daily for years to ask her to clarify the readings I had questions on. She would spend hours on a phone with me answering questions never once losing patience. I learned so much from her. She had vast dharma knowledge, very devoted to our teacher and would do her meditations and extensive sadhanas daily. She would join in all the dharma classes and pujas at our nearby Kalmuck Buddhist Temple. She was such a good dharma friend and I enjoyed her company very much. I wanted to be like her to have the freedom to study and practice dharma. When I recievd my first initiation by our teacher at the temple, Carmen sat right next to me on the front row. Thrilling!! After initiation we would have ten days of explanations (commentary) from our teacher His Eminence Kensur Losang Tharchin Rinpoche. I was so excited and deeply happy to get commentary from our great and knowledgable teacher. What I did not understand, I would of course consult Carmen who is much more advanced and taught me patiently after each day’s teachings. Around 15 years ago Carmen came to India and I travelled with her to holy Bodhgaya, Varanasi and Dharamsala. I escorted her to these places. Since then I have not met up with her. But I know she is fine. Around two years back I sent her a three foot Vajra Yogini statue as a gift from me. Carmen received the statue and was very happy. It was my offering to her for so much kindness shown me when I was a child. I wish so much she can visit Malaysia. She would be happy. We all want to be a part of something big and with good results. But the only way we can be a part of that is if we work hard together with the other members of our Kechara. The time will pass. It can pass with you taking on difficulties or it can pass with you doing nothing. I feel it's better to work hard now and enjoy later than to enjoy nothing now and then end up nowhere later. Prayers and dedications are ok, but hard work must be part of the prayer. Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness the Dalai Lama seated here with His sacred mother. A mother who gives birth to great beings like Shakyamuni, Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, Trijang Rinpoche, etc must be a Buddha Herself, a highly realized Dakini, a powerful practitioner, or a lady who made prayers in previous lives to provide others with great dharma in one way or another. A lady of great spiritual merit or virtue.. I wanted to share this photo with you because if I ever met His Holiness' mother, I would prostrate to Her immediately. Beautiful picture. His Holiness is not ordinary for sure and neither could a being who gave birth to Him. Tibetans always said she was very saintly, gentle, simple and deeply spiritual. During Her lifetime many went to recieve Her blessings..Tsem Rinpoche

It's very revealing how when you give, offer and have something for them, they crowd around smiling, happy and easy. The minute you ask them to give something, contribute or really help out, they totally disappear. Handphones shut. No replies. No sound. As if you they never knew you. People like that make themselves 2nd rate, find 1st rate people to work with and move on. Recently I encountered some students like that!~ Tsem Rinpoche

When I was in Thubten Dhargye Ling centre with the great Master Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen in Los Angeles, on the main altar was this poster size printed framed picture of His Holiness meditating. I noticed a gentle glow around His Holiness the Dalai Lama's head and body. It has been my favorite picture of His Holiness ever since then which was in the 80's. I found it again today and I share with all of you. May the ordinary and ultimate purposes of His Holiness' incarnation on this earth bless us, nurture us and purify us. Tsem Rinpoche

Last night between 300-400 persons congregated at Kechara while I gave a talk to them on 'making a choice' and 'the power and purpose of stupas'. The talk has been taped and will be blogged once tape is ready. The talk was two hours and it flowed well for me although I had very little sleep. Towards the end of the talk I gave refuge vows to 100 new persons from different countries for this. When everything was done, I met up with a group of 15 and 5 from Shanghai. Had a nice dharma talk with them on how to make a centre grow and harmony. Passed out nice dharma gifts to all the visitors so they don't go home empty handed. Also seperately met some directors and movie producers that attended the talk and sought private time with me..these producers and directors are very well known locally. One is from Hong Hong. Got home around 5Am and saw so many gifts from people. Did a Manjushri dedication for all the people who offered gifts to me on Wesak day in gratitude. Also some people from Europe called in to Kechara to arrange flowers to be given to me last night. That was very sweet. I have so many flowers now..over 70 bouquets I would...guess. They have all been offered up on the shrine. Thank you. TR (May 5, 2012)

Karma exists and created constantly by our actions. Karma created in the past is fertile and will open up when the situation arises. We should never relax and think everything will be alright when there is so much volatile latent karma like a huge volcano temporarily dormant. We can do something about it though. We can 'manipulate' karma and here's how: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/kechara-13-depts/what-are-pujas-about-do-take-a-good-read.html

If we always do not understand Dharma, then that is a sign of not studying. If we always blame Dharma, it is a sign we do not know what dharma really is. If we always expect of the Dharma, then we are using Dharma in ineffective methods. If we find Dharma difficult, then it is because we are unwilling to accept it. If we give up the Dharma, we are get deeper into our sufferings without respite. If we complain about Dharma it is a sign we are looking for blame in the wrong places and not within ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

Everyone should offer a minimum of 100,000 lights to Buddha Vajra Yogini before you die. Do not procrastinate. All other unfinished works is not so worrisome. But your spiritual practice incomplete at the time of death is very worrisome. Start your butterlamp retreats in KFR. Don't delay. Tsem Rinpoche

If we still pursue relationships why hasn't it worked in the past for us? If we are still looking for it and still haven't found it yet, then we must examine what is it in us that doesn't obtain it. If we are in a relationship and we feel stuck, trapped or disenchanted, isn't that a message from our wisdom deep in us we need to achieve something higher? Go for more than finding comfort in the lonliness of false company already.. Contemplate. Tsem Rinpoche
