Kyabje Zong Rinpoche Cuts My Hair

Zongrinpoche This photo was taken at TDL centre in Los Angeles in 1984. I had promised to take ordination and go to Gaden Monastery. HH Zong Rinpoche told me to live in his house(Zong Ladrang) in Gaden. I agreed to everything. HH Zong Rinpoche cutting a strand of my hair and blessing me as indication of His acceptance.

I am still moved when I see this.

Since HH Zong Rinpoche's passing, I have felt lonely and missed Him till today. Not a day goes by I do not chant His name mantra or wish to be in His presence again. I have not met such a lama.

When I first heard His name, immediately great faith, joy and excitement arose in my mind. I believed He is Heruka and that faith has never wavered. He is Heruka.

Meeting Zong Rinpoche was one of the top 5 events of my life which has been useless most of the time.

I love you Zong Rinpoche and I will always be devoted to you. You are my refuge. Whatever you have passed to me from your Enlightened mind, I will uphold till my death.

Rinpoche, despite everything you went through, you never gave up or broke your word to Kyabje Zong Rinpoche even till today.
You had braved scoldings and beatings from your parents, risked robbery and worse by hitchhiking across America to LA, and suffered through homelessness, hunger and basically having to stand up for yourself and survive when you were still a teenager. And you had to find a way to get yourself to India to be ordained as a monk, despite that fact that your root Guru to whom you made your promise to had already entered clear light.
Reading your post puts me to shame. And from now onwards I will not allow small insignificant problems to discourage me or get me down.
May all Dharma students be inspired and uphold your example.

    Dear Rinpoche,
This looks like wonderful and intimate moment that no doubt you will forever cherish. Having known great loss myself, I can empathise with the feeling of loneliness that comes with it, but no doubt HH Zong Rinpoche is always with you in all that you are and in all the great benefit you continue to provide to many, and although I personally never knew HH Zong Rinpoche, I have the deepest respect for him, because it is thanks to his great kindness, compassion and wisdom that we have all had the immense fortune to come to know you as our teacher.
I’m sure we all join you in our eternal gratitude to HH Zong Rinpoche, and give our eternal and sincere thanks to you for guiding us.
    Kindest regards.

This photo is but one moment of the many decades of guru devotion that Rinpoche has unwaveringly held for Zong Rinpoche. I cried the last time Rinpoche spoke extensively of Zong Rinpoche, saying that he would give up everything to have one more moment with him. It made me realise that I didn’t want to find myself one day in that situation where I wanted Rinpoche, and he was gone for good. It’s not like you can bring someone back from the dead, no matter how much you want them.
I hope everyone realises that with Rinpoche, not only do his words reflect guru devotion but his actions and deeds too. I wonder how many people would have the devotion to follow the instructions of a lama who has just passed into clear light meditation with the same determination that Rinpoche had. I mean, Rinpoche didn’t have anyone to check up on him and make sure he was following instructions for something as difficult as moving to a totally foreign land with a totally foreign culture and language, and ‘giving up’ everything to take ordination vows…and it still didn’t deter Rinpoche. It shows Rinpoche’s great trust in his root guru that this was the right decision to make, everything would be okay…and Rinpoche’s great trust for the Buddhadharma to be the right decision to make.

I particularly like what Elena said.. “I hope everyone realises that with Rinpoche, not only do his words reflect guru devotion but his actions and deeds too.” This is what makes us different from Rinpoche’s devotion to Zong Rinpoche. But why must we make that different. Rinpoche give us the exact precious Dharma just like Zong Rinpoche did for him. Rinpoche memorised everything he learnt. It puts me to shame how much..rather how little i have memorised. Rinpoche has gone through so much as Beng Kooi has clearly written. What I find hope in is that Rinpoche believes I can. The assignments he gives is because he knows I can…thus, I will trust in him more than myself.

When I hear the many accounts of how Tsem Tulku Rinpoche always thought of his guru Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, how he treated him and served him when he was still with us, and how much he has missed him ever since he passed away, I am moved by the sincere devotion.
And I mean “moved” like one is moved by witnessing great acts of kindness that are motivated purely from wanting to be kind to others with no hidden agenda, with awaiting nothing in return: pure, honest, spontaneous, effortless, joyous and sincere devotion.
For guru devotion to arise so strongly and purely, Rinpoche must have strong imprint from previous lives, and strong affinities with his guru.
Rinpoche, I fold my hands to you, and I pray that I may show such devotion to my own guru too.

A picture says a thousand words! In this picture it clearly showed the trust and devotion Rinpoche had towards Zong Rinpoche.
Rinpoche’s love, trust and devotion towards Zong Rinpoche is really inspiring. No matter how many times Rinpoche share the precious moments Rinpoche had with Zong Rinpoche, it had always tugged at my and many other hearts.
Despite the hard times and obstacles that Rinpoche had endured so far, Rinpoche had never given up on us, all these is due to Rinpoche’s promise to Zong Rinpoche in benefitting others! A very good example of Guru Devotion!
The special bond between Rinpoche and Zong Rinpoche is really admirable. It put me to shame whenever I thought of giving up.
May I be able to emulate Rinpoche’s good qualities to benefit others!

Tsem Rinpoche – may you continue to be our inspiration and spiritual guide of our time and our children, be our Heruka and Vajra Yogini. Your example of guru devotion is faultless and we must strive to emulate your good qualities of care, compassion, wisdom and skillful means.
Every time I attend a live dharma talk given by you, you continue to instill hope and love and care to help us gain realization of our “samsaric” thoughts, body and speech. I become more aware because of these oral transmissions and teachings to improve myself to benefit others.

I agree with what Elena says, especially pointing out how terrible it will be when *touch wood* Rinpoche passes on. Although we are all enlightened with the knowledge that when Rinpoche enters into clear light that he will be in control of his rebirth, I dread the day. I can’t imagine how it would feel to have such a strong connection with someone, for a short period of time, and then they’re no longer physically there anymore. I’ve known Rinpoche since I was 6 – losing him would be akin to losing a family member.
    *shudders at the thought*
The other thing that I agree with Elena, is when she pointed out the fact that Tsem Rinpoche carried out his duties without his lama being there to scold, continuously encourage and check up. The lama said and the student followed with pure devotion. Such is the power of words and of promises.

Everyone have an inner and outer guru, so don’t need to go around to search for your inner guru, because when the time comes, your inner guru will come to you, so mean while, start your dharma practice under your outer guru, create the cause until the time comes.
Rinpoche met Kensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tharchin the first time; he started to receive teaching from him until later when he meets Zong Rinpoche, with the strong faith Tsem Rinpoche has to Zong Rinpoche, he decided to follow Zong Rinpoche as his root guru to further his Dharma Practice.
With a moment of decision, the moment of hair cutting and blessing by Zong Rinpoche, and from then on, Rinpoche has hold his vows and his guru devotion to Zong Rinpoche for the rest of his life. Rinpoche always a very strong devotion to his guru, regardless of either Kensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tharchin or Zong Rinpoche, Tsem Rinpoche has always serve them very well, Rinpoche has shown the perfect example of guru devotion to anyone else that he met in the rest of his life.
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing.

It has always amazed me how Rinpoche has remained so steadfast and unwavering in his Guru devotion, commitment and promises made so many years ago. And that even after his Guru has passed on, he never gave up on his promises; nor were their importance ever diluted in Rinpoche’s mind. The promises he made are as fresh in his mind now as they were when he was only 17, kneeling in front of Zong Rinpoche in Los Angeles (as in this photo). Many of us can’t even remember what we had promised our teachers last week and it is shaming for me to realise how lightly I have held my own commitments. How will we ever hold the higher tantric commitments and vows when we can’t even follow our teacher’s advice through to the end.
It is remarkable too that Tsem Rinpoche only really got to spend about 6 months with Zong Rinpoche. After he left the LA centre, Rinpoche never saw him again. But these 6 months were enough to seal his faith and devotion forever – which is a lot more than can be said for many of us who have physically been by our teacher’s side for YEARS and still cannot reach this same level of devotion.
Rinpoche proves to us, as ever, that real devotion and being close to the guru is not about a physical closeness. The teachers will always hold us close to them but it is up to us to keep that sacred relationship close or break it. It’s about the spiritual and mental closeness we maintain from OUR side where we hold our promises and commitments close to our hearts, near and always precious.

Zong Rinpoche is Rinpoche’s root guru. Zong Rinpoche is emanation of Heruka, he showed his wrateful form, normally. But Zong Rinpoche like Tsem Rinpoche very much, the relationship between guru and student is very close. So when Rinpoche heard that Zong Rinpoche was pass away, he feels lonely. Until now when Rinpoche mentioned Zong Rinpoche, he also feels sad and lonely.
Rinpoche also always mention how great Zong Rinpoche was!! Even though I don’t have chance meets with Zong Rinpoche but I am thinking quite fortunate because Rinpoche always shared and praise the good quality regarding Zong Rinpoche. I feel very luckly we have Rinpoche to explain us all those great story regardings Zong Rinpoche.

  14. han on Jul 9, 2010 at 1:47 am

Every article about Tsem Rinpoche’s gurus has the strong message of GURU DEVOTION. Whatever it takes, Tsem Rinpoche always uphold dhama and his gurus and all the great masters.
Rinpoche said “meeting Zong Rinpoche was one of the top 5 events of his life which has been useless most of the time” Rinpoche not always meet Zong Rinpoche, but the guru-student bond was so strong like Paris said, Rinpoche proves to us what’s real guru devotion is, not about physical closeness but about mental and spiritual closeness.
Despite Zong Rinpoche had already entered clear light, everytime when Tsem Rinpoche mentioned abt Zong Rinpoche, he cried with tears. To many of us, I should said that meeting Tsem Rinpoche was the top event of our life….before meeting Rinpoche, has been useless most of the time….

  15. Su Ming on Jul 9, 2010 at 3:29 am

I love this picture VERY MUCH! It touches me each time when I see this picture.
This was taken when Rinpoche asked Zong Rinpoche whether should he be an actor or a monk. Zong Rinpoche did divination and told Rinpoche that :-
    1. If Rinpoche becomes an actor, he will successful
    2. But if Rinpoche becomes a monk, HE WILL BENEFIT MORE PEOPLE
Based on these words from Zong Rinpoche, Rinpoche made his promise to go to Gaden Monastery in India to become a monk. And Rinpoche DID NOT BREAK HIS PROMISE TO HIS GURU even after Zong Rinpoche has entered clear light shortly after.

  16. Irene Lim on Jul 9, 2010 at 10:57 am

It is indeed a profoundly moving picture of Kyabje Zong Rinpoche cutting Rinpoche’s hair. It signified the beginning of a spiritual journey that Rinpoche has promised to undertake and to this date Rinpoche has not turned back but has gone all the way in this endeavour to make it a success out of love and welfare for sentient beings. Despite having to go through all odds and suffering, Rinpoche emerged a winner . He turned his table around and and is not afraid to utilise his life experience to skillfully benefit others. He truly has compassion, wisdom and skillfulness.

This photo alone is very moving because it reveals so much about Rinpoche and about how fortunate we are to have met Rinpoche. The very fact that have the Dharma right now is because of the kindness and blessings of Rinpoche’s Guru devotion to Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. The very fact now, many of us are doing Lama Tsongkhapa’s Guru Yoga is because of this joyous occasion so many years ago. One thing about Rinpoche, despite all trials and tribulations, his faith in his Gurus never wavers.
Indeed we are fortunate to have met Rinpoche and receive from him so much Dharma teachings. We are also very fortunate to have encountered this unbroken lineage in which perfect Guru-disciple relationship had formed a bond from which the blessings of Lama Tsongkhapa, Vajrayogini and Buddha Shakyamuni can flow forth. H. E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche is the last generation from which Vajrayogini initiation he bestows will promise 7 lifetimes of meeting Vajrayogini until achieving Kechara Paradise. This is promised by Vajrayogini herself to Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, our lineage Guru or spiritual forefather. How sacred and fortunate that we are!

His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche shows great love for his root guru and perfect guru devotion. We should all be like that, that way we could become a very nice person and a better student. Zong Rinpoche shows his acceptance by cutting Rinpoche’s hair. I do not really know what kind of ceremony this is. When Rinpoche first heard his name, he could already trust Zong Rinpoche, the Heruka on earth. I bet they have a Karmic bond between each other that is especially different compared to that of regular student and teacher! We should all treat our guru like that as our guru always provides us with care, he provides us with one of the greatest gifts of all, the glorious Dharma!

ya, i kind of able to relate to your experience & feeling the first time Tsem Tulku Rinpoche heard your Guru’s name whereby immediately great faith, joy & excitement arose in your mind.
I feel the same way when the 1st time i saw my Guru, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche in Kechara’s Dvd : Re-visited” wherby our Guru made a statement at the end of the Dvd, whereby my Guru said ” Actually he is having high fever & feeling very cold but he did not shown it to all his students because he does not want them to feel worry for him & concerned for his health. He also said The Best time to practise dharma is when one’s is very sick and not feeling well but you do not tell the whole world about it & cause your loved one worry for you ” Anyone whom had watched this Dvd before knows that our Guru had visited many Kechara paradise sites / shops & etc since the early morning of that day till mid-night but he did not shown to anyone that he is actually sick because he does not want his student worry for him. He is so caring & love his student . You know what, after seeing this DVd , i decided to make a trip to Kechara House to check it out & find out more because i wish to know this Guru more…..
Today, I am so fortunate cause i manage to meet my Guru several times in person & has the opportunity to learn Dharma from this great teacher…. thank you, my Guru

Kyabje Zong Rinpoche must be a very remarkable guru for Tsem Rinpoche to have so much faith in him. The unshakable trust and promise of Tsem Rinpoche has for his guru despite his passing, even forgoing fame to be famous and rich Hollywood star is really commendable.
I can feel rinpoche’s love for his guru is reflected in his actions for it move and effected him to do so much in this life. I’ve not met Zong Rinpoche before so I could not not have a personal comment. But the ripple effect of the love rinpoche has for his guru has definitely rub on as my love for Tsem Rinpoche. I can commend that I’ve not come across anyone that has so much wisdom and compassion for others as in rinpoche. That altruistic actions of rinpoche has affected so many people in that he comes into contact with. I’ve heard and seen so much transformation of people that has been in contact with rinpoche. Thank you very much Rinpoche and Rinpoche’s past guru I’m forever grateful for all the teachings in transforming my mind.

H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche has demonstrated perfect guru devotion to H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche since the first day he met him in Los Angeles, TDL center. Even though H.H. Zong Rinpoche has passed away in 1984, H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche has never forgetting him for even one second.
Tsem Rinpoche frequently talks about Zong Rinpoche’s good qualities, his kindness and compassion towards the student, and praise him openly in front of his own students. Tsem Rinpoche will print a lot of Zong Rinpoche’s pictures, put inside very nice photo frame and give it away to all of us, Tsem Rinpoche is like the most loyalty fans of H.H. Zong Rinpoche, except H.H.Zong Rinpoche is not a pop star.
H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche has show a good demonstration of how a student should devoted to their guru, listen to instructions and always remembering the guru kindness. Watching H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s devotion to his guru is like life copy of “the 50 stanza of Guru Devotions”!

Even at his young age, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche met H. H. Zong Rinpoche, he could immediately recognize him to be his root Guru. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche would listen and follow every instruction His Holiness told him to do, which meant that he had very strong Guru devotion.
His Holiness saw in Tsem Tulku Rinpoche sincerity and devotion to him when he accepted to take ordination and decided to enter Gaden Monastery. That is why His Holiness offered his own house in Gaden Monastery for him to stay. As Tsem Tulku Rinpoche agreed to everything His Holiness told him to do, he performed the hair cutting ceremony to show his acceptance and blessings
Even after His Holiness’ passing , Tsem Tulku would never forget what His Holiness has done for him each time he recited his Guru’s mantra and he did that everyday without fail. From then on, Tsem Tulku carried out all the works his Gurus passed down for him to do and nothing can make his mind change.

  23. KH Ng on Jul 10, 2010 at 2:15 am

Why would a nineteen years boy promised to take ordination and go to Gaden Monastery to an old monk he hardly know? Either he was crazy or he must have tremendous faith in the old Monk. H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s faith in Kyabje Zong Rinpoche proves that karmic relationships exist. His strong guru devotion can be seen even to this day by his blog of his root guru and by the many times and the way he refers to Zong Rinpoche. I remember a few years back H.E. Tsem Rinpoche told us that he used to wake up very early in the morning to prepare breakfast for Zong Rinpoche then goes to work and comes back after work and serve his guru till very late at night; attending to his needs and also attending his guru’s Dharma teachings. He even cut his toe nails. I thought it was strange at that time….urgh!! But now I think this is the best example of guru devotion.
I pray every day that I may have pure and strong guru devotion to His Eminence, so that I can practice the Dharma well to benefit all sentient beings.

Chinese babies in Malaysia (maybe elsewhere in other Chinese communities) have their hair shaved when they are 1 month old. (On the day of their “first” full moon.)
When I saw the picture of Rinpoche having his hair cut by Kyabje Zong Rinpoche reminds me of my sons when they had their heads shaven at 1 month of age. This ‘act’ for Chinese babies is very meaningful, signifying a new beginning and a blessing.
When Rinpoche had his hair cut, it was greatly meaningful for him BUT in my mind, it is equally meaningful for us in Samsara, because this simple act, when Rinpoche agreed to be a monk, is the day, we who are students at least may have a chance of… dare I say it… ”Enlightenment?” or “Liberation?” Maybe Rinpoche can correct my ignorance on this matter.

  25. julia on Jul 10, 2010 at 10:17 am

Looking at the picture, I visualize such a ceremony will be held when KWPC is ready, Rinpoche will be conducting the ceremony like what Kyabje Zong Rinpoche did to Rinpoche by cutting a strand of hair and blessing as indicate of the student’s acceptance to be ordained.
Everytime when Rinpoche shared with us about how Rinpoche came all the way acrossed the mainland of USA to meet Rinpoche’s root guru Kyabje Zong Rinpoche in L.A. also all the precious moment Rinpoche spent with his guru, Rinpoche’s eyes always filled with tears. The tremendous love and gratitude that over flow in Rinpoche’s heart towards Kyabje Zong Rinpoche will be what we all must follow and up hold to our own guru.

  26. Datuk May Phng on Jul 10, 2010 at 7:23 pm

Rinpoche’s Guru Devotion to Zong Rinpoche and his steadfastness in keeping his promise to be ordained as a monk is a wondrous thing to me.
So often, we break our promises and then pretend nothing is happening, Rinpoche could have done that as Zong Rinpoche passed away before Tsem Rinpoche found his way to ordination.
To even imagine, Rinpoche met his Root Guru, Zong Rinpoche in USA and was with him for only a short time and the impact of that relationship would last Tsem Rinpoche till today, when Tsem Rinpoche will spend his life teaching the Dharma.
This event also brings to my mind, the promise Tsem Rinpoche made to Lati Rinpoche, who sent him here to Malaysia to spread the Doctrine of Lama Tsongkapa. Lati Rinpoche has just passed away, and Tsem Rinpoche is still here with us in Malaysia, a place of Budhism “wilderness” teaching Dharma.
Such example of integrity and honour is very difficult to find and I am so glad I can have such a living example as my Guru.

A picture paints a thousand words. A sacred one like this can touch a million hearts.
Guru Devotion is not only about close bonding or its external manifestation. It is really about being determined to become the best one can be to benefit others, to help them overcome suffering – which is what our Guru had accomplished.Being close to a Guru in body, speech and mind closes the gap between us and enlightened beings.

  28. Anila on Oct 17, 2010 at 5:06 pm

The picture of H.H. Zong Rinpoche cutting Tem Rinpoche’s hair has brought my mind back to the day when Tsem Rinpoche cut my hair to tell me I have been accepted to become a Sangha. It is no coincidence, but the Karma that I am linked with Zong Rinpooche through Tsem Rinpoche and the Gelupa Lineage. When our Rinpoche cut my hair I never had regret that I said yes. I am very prepared and not had the slightest doubt in entering Sanghahood. I am very satisfied I had already experienced mundane life. As I age I want to have a more peaceful and calm life and collect more merits for next life like Rinpoche has said. I hope what Rinpoche has done by becoming a monk will inspire more people to join as Sangha.

  29. Sock Wan on May 9, 2012 at 10:30 am

Rinpoche’s result and achievement show us how important Guru devotion is if we want to gain result in our spiritual practice. A Guru does not wish us to be rich and famous but he wants us to transform our mind and to achieve eternal happiness. He takes care of us not only this lifetime, but many lifetimes to come as long as we are still in Samsara.

Wonderful!!! 8 persons took vegetarian vows today. 1. Wan San (6 months) 2. Jill (6 months) 3. Chervenne (whole life) 4. Sam (whole life) 5. Victor Phang (whole life) 6. Jack Ng (whole life) 7. Rena Wong (6 months) 8. Lilyn Tan (6 months) I am so incredibly happy to get the news. It is very rewarding when some take the teachings to heart and some positive action arises as a result. I congratulate those 8 people who have developed compassion and enough awareness. They have put their attachments for meat aside for spiritual attainments. Tsem Rinpoche

Difference: Rinpoche’s life in Los Angeles is HIGHLY INSPIRATIONAL. More people should know about it. Kechara should do more to promote and educate everyone on who Tsem Rinpoche was before he took ordination. It is a teaching that will apply to so many materialistic people like myself. Kechara should really do alot more to promote the biography and background of Tsem Rinpoche since you have Rinpoche with you and you can gather any information you require and you have the writers/resources. If Kechara does not promote who will? All Kechara staff and students should know Tsem Rinpoche’s background perfectly and speak about it with others. I am so touched and inspired by Rinpoche’s growing up years and I know thousands upon thousands more would be also. Kechara should do more to promote. Not many people know about Rinpoche’s background. My thoughts to everyone. Don’t you all think so?

It is a WONDERFUL IDEA to start your day by reading one story from the 84 Mahasiddhas. They are very inspirational as they started out just like us, but changed and took responsibility and became attained thru sheer effort realizing the futility of life’s endeavours… I use to read their stories in Gaden and it would bring torrents of tears to my eyes. They touched me deeply especially their guru devotion. I wanted to be like that.. Wonderful habit to cultivate every morning upon waking is some dharma reading, then do Tsongkapa guru yoga, migtseyma and then start your day..You will be ready for anything…TR Mahasiddhas-Must bookmark this page: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=23941

Willow Creek is the exact type of town I would love to live in…trees, mountains, rivers.l would set up a house there, big altar, butterlamp house and make lots of offerings and do retreats there and lots of dharma readings. Having bigfoot nearby is just an extra treat. But I wouldn’t move therer for bigfoot-I like the environment..In Tibet Domo Geshe Rinpoche use to meditate in secluded caves and when he gained attainments, Yetis which is Himalayan bigfoots visited him giving him special milk where he made healing pills that were so powerful even the 13th Dalai Lama and Panchen Lamas wanted those pills. Domo Geshe was famous to have association with yetis and they never harmed him, but would drop milk off at his cave and go…I would love to live at Willow Creek so much. I love places like this. If I didn’t have Kechara, I would move there immediately and live there. But I will visit for sure. Will take a group with me. I want to go very much!! Willow Creek is a town in Northern California. This town has the most reported cases of bigfoot sightings. From Willow Creek you go to Bluff Creek where the most famous Patterson-Gimlin film of a genuine bigfoot was walking back in the 60′s was filmed…it is the most famous footage that no one can debunk till today….Willow Creek is so green, full of mountains and beautiful rivers. I will definitely take a group with me and visit one day..I love forests and Northern California..so beautiful.. I don’t want to look for bigfoot, but the whole town is a total mecca for bigfoot enthusiasts with shops and small museums. I would like to go to just enjoy the scenery, the mountains and forests. And see the bigfoot scene.. I would love to live there for sure. Who wants to go with me?? Imagine if I was real lucky and got to live solitary in a place like this??? Imagine if my cabin was near the shore of this lake without many people around? Imagine I have my dharma books and beautiful Buddha shrine and can live here away from the delusions, false dreams, fake promises and false hopes of this world that I never believed from day one anyways??? If I should be so lucky to be in such a living environment in this all future lives... Tsem Rinpoche

Dear friends, This is a well made Paranormal real life story. Nothing scary in this episode, but very powerful show of love and willpower. I want you to please watch this carefully and see how a mother reaches out to save her child. Her will was so strong she left her body. The child saw a light leaving the mother and going to the road although she died and 'found' people to save her child. Very touching and beautiful story. This is what I believe happened, what do you think? http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31937

I knew of a lady who when she went to bed at night, she would feel unseen hands touch her body and disturb her sleep. This happened many times. She sought help from many places without relief. When she saw me, I gave her Singdongma. She invited a statue home, set up a shrine for Her and did Singdongma's mantra/prayer daily. The unseen hands stopped disturbing her & this was ten years ago. She does her prayer daily to Singongma till now: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=31904

Dear all, every week I am informed of a death and to offer prayers. This week I was informed of four deaths. With death, everything is almost final and if we didn't do dharma genuinely, we would have regrets. Death is such a omnipresent and frightening stalker. Realize it will come for you one day soon and go all the way with dharma, dharma practice, dharma work and gain realizations. At death, the dharma you have is the only hope. Anything else acquired in life is a total waste of time. Please realize and wake up. Don't procrastinate and keep yourself 'busy' with activities that are empty at the time of death. Our minds will continue at death and what supports that journey is our good merits and attainments collected during our lives. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear Rinpoche, Bryan and I do so much less than what Rinpoche does. When people are asleep Rinpoche's working, when people are awake Rinpoche's working. Not many people in Kechara realize that Rinpoche works the hardest in the entire organization. I didn't know before joining Ladrang. Although Rinpoche may want to go around to pray for people in need, one day I want to able to do this instead of Rinpoche. It is quite taxing and Rinpoche can't be going out of Haven 24 hours to pray for the dying/dead. I'm happy Pastor Yek Yee and Pastor Susan wanted to come today, they really are awesome Pastors. Thank you, Jean Mei

Dear TR,  We have just collected Tashi's ashes. Our Nirvana agent who named May is a very nice lady, she is in her 40+, she is a Buddhist and a Mandarin speaker. She follow us thru out the whole session. May also bought us drinks and settle everything for us.  I have share with her about KH, TR and some other departments we have in Kechara. She is interested in KH. I will arrange with her to come and visit KH and various departments soon. The couple is sending us back home and we will go and get a stupa for Tashi's ashes. Have asked them to go back and rest after this. From Bryan

Dear all,  It's 9:30 AM. I just walked into the house after being in the hospital and then going to finish a funeral for a baby of a student. I have just conducted two funerals in the last 24 hours. The second funeral was for a baby. I had Jean Mei, Bryan, Seng Piow, Pastor Susan, Pastor Yekyee, Lew with me. Pastor Susan and Yekyee really wanted to come and learn. I am glad they made the effort.  We conducted a simple funeral by reciting holy verses, sprinkling holy water onto the baby, protector rice and scattered blessed fresh rose petals all over the baby. Afterwards I had a nice conversation about the baby's mind taking rebirth. Upon leaving the father and father's mother gave me a very warm hug of thanks and support during this most saddest of times for them...and the wife was happy and looked visibly relieved. She let go alot and let go of her guilt after we talked.. I have sent Bryan and Jean Mei with the family to cremate the baby this morning at 11AM It will take two hours and then we can bring the ashes home. Part of the ashes will be in a large stupa. All of us are extremely exhausted but did very good work. That is what Kechara is about. I am very happy we can help the baby and family along their way. When they called, they sounded extremely desperate as it was very late with no one to help them. We were very honoured to help them. I didn't call Pastor Yekyee and Pastor Susan heard, they immediately wanted to join me. Now with no sleep after baby Tashi's funeral, they went to Kechara to give dharma classes. I am proud of them and my assistants who wanted to help all last night until this morning. It is wonderful to give it all we can for others. That is what Kechara is about. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear TR,

I have received some update from Gaden regarding Justin Ripley's ashes.

Monastery have done a whole day of Vajrayogini Daju and Ruchok this Sunday, this is for Rinpoche's previous life and current life students who passed away recently: Geshe Ngawang and Justin Ripley.

Monastery is now in the middle making Tsa Tsa out from Geshe Ngawang's ashes. After they finish, monastery start to make Tsa Tsa out from Justin's ashes.

Monastery will use Justin's ashes and make a few different type of Tsa Tsa:

1) Chenrezig, Manjushri and Vajrapani Tsa Tsa

2) White Tara, Amitayus and Nagyalma Tsa Tsa

3) small stupa Tsa Tsa

I have asked monastery to mail us few Tsa Tsa after finish, this will be place inside KFR big VY stupa.

Thanks
Bryan (Justin Ripley's ashes has been made into holy Buddha tsatsas {as in picture} to gain more merits for him). We love Justin.

When we trust, practice and go all the way with the tantric path of Vajra Yogini, we have nothing to worry about. All the worries both worldly and spiritual will be solved. We should surrender to Vajra Yogini's blessing by being our best. We just set up this wonderful statue of Buddha Vajra Yogini in our library area. How beautiful She is. Buddha Vajra Yogini is special deity for those overwhelmed by laziness, miserliness and want easy practice but big results. May all of you be blessed to see Her holy image. Kechara Discovery Dept of our orgazination does such wonderful images available for the public. I am very happy as She is beautiful. Thank You Kechara Discovery! Tsem Rinpoche

When I first arrived in Malaysia in 1992 I had a group of people who would sponsor my tickets, stay and for many years sponsor much needed help in Gaden. One of them was Ms Mooi Lan who lives in Cheras. She has been a great supporter for the last 20 years and in the past sponsor. I recieved very sad news she passed away this morning at 4Am. I request all my students to please light a candle for her to take good rebirth and come across the dharma again. Offer the candle to Buddha Dukkar..that is the Buddha I assigned to her many years ago and she diligently practiced and set up a shrine to Dukkar.. I will miss her and never forget her kindness. Many of the things I wanted to do in the past she generously helped. Tsem Rinpoche ( see here http://blog.tsemtulku.com/?p=4354 )

Heruka! We say we want to improve yet we don't hold our vows. We promise to keep our samaya, yet our promise to our earlier promises laxed. We want to experience only good results yet we hold onto our face. We want wealth, yet we give nothing. We want success, yet we offer tiny offerings to the Three Jewels. We say we have great faith in our Guru, yet when his assignments are difficult we run. We say we want a good rebirth yet all our actions are motivated by self gain. Heruka, Heruka, Heruka, how are we to recieve your blessings when our three doors are closed tightly by selfishness, ignorance and anger?~Tsem Rinpoche

I haven't lived in Gaden since 1992 when I was sent to Malaysia. I love Gaden and loved so much living there. I like so many things about Gaden. Conversations would not be lonely and easy. Whatever I talk about the monks immediately understand. I do not have to face 'opposition' , doubts, hundreds of questions, and every detail simple about the dharma or dharma work has to be explained. I miss that so much. I am not lonely for company, but I am lonely for familiarity very much. I was very content, at peace and in my element in Gaden. I never knew or imagined I would have to go to Malaysia, stay and take on heavy responsibilities. I am not complaining but I love Gaden, the monks, my teachers, the great masters, the senior monks whom I have many friends. I miss them so much. So so much. I love and respect the great old monks, Rinpoches and spectacular Geshes. Gaden was a city of practitioners and I was home. Lord Tsongkapa's presence pervades the whole Gaden. TR

Dear all, I gave a talk on desire to a few inclusive of Paris and David. I asked David and Paris to write up the talk on their blogs. My plan was after they write it, I'll link it to my blog. From my blog people will click to their blog to read the write up and benefit many who read the talk. Paris did a very good write up and did not miss the subtle points I was expressing that night. She really took the time and effort to write it...I was happy to see she wrote exaclty as I expressed. Effort pays off usually or eventually. I am happy to see there are 669 views (43 comments) already going back to Paris' blog to read the teachings. The teachings will be benfit many. Must save and read again and again. Must share with others...Must contemplate. You want dharma, I am giving it to you and Paris wrote it out perfectly. Bryan gave me an incredible MOTHER'S DAY GIFT. It is so auspicious. He had someone draw HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche's sacred face onto the body of Buddha Vajradharma. Buddha Vajradharma is the form Buddha takes to teach the immaculate and fautless tantra of Vajra Yogini. In Vajra Yogini's tantra and meditations, you must visualize your guru in the form of Vajradharma to make offerings both inner, outer & secret offerings daily to one's tantric guru & to meditate on Him in that form. It is very integral part of the practice. If you do the meditations well on your guru in this particular form during the practice of the sadhana..you can gain tremendous realizations and control over one's mind to leave the body when you want. So getting this picture today was an omen if Kecharians fulfill their responsibilities, then Vajra Yogini's practice will spread in this region. Very good omen. I feel this strongly. Bryan really planned out this gift & surprised me!! I will put in Chamang Ladrang in the future. THANK YOU BRYAN!!TR

Back in New Jersey over 30 years ago, there lived a lady down the street who was also a student of my teacher. Her name is Carmen (she is a nun now and her ordination name is: Ani Thupten). She had a nice size library of books and many dharma books. I loved the Dharma books!! I would spend so much time browsing and getting snippets of each book from Carmen. I use to ride by bike down to chat with her and borrow her books and it took me like 5 mins by bike..She lived on the same street. I would read dharma books voraciously and write down my questions. I would call Carmen almost daily for years to ask her to clarify the readings I had questions on. She would spend hours on a phone with me answering questions never once losing patience. I learned so much from her. She had vast dharma knowledge, very devoted to our teacher and would do her meditations and extensive sadhanas daily. She would join in all the dharma classes and pujas at our nearby Kalmuck Buddhist Temple. She was such a good dharma friend and I enjoyed her company very much. I wanted to be like her to have the freedom to study and practice dharma. When I recievd my first initiation by our teacher at the temple, Carmen sat right next to me on the front row. Thrilling!! After initiation we would have ten days of explanations (commentary) from our teacher His Eminence Kensur Losang Tharchin Rinpoche. I was so excited and deeply happy to get commentary from our great and knowledgable teacher. What I did not understand, I would of course consult Carmen who is much more advanced and taught me patiently after each day’s teachings. Around 15 years ago Carmen came to India and I travelled with her to holy Bodhgaya, Varanasi and Dharamsala. I escorted her to these places. Since then I have not met up with her. But I know she is fine. Around two years back I sent her a three foot Vajra Yogini statue as a gift from me. Carmen received the statue and was very happy. It was my offering to her for so much kindness shown me when I was a child. I wish so much she can visit Malaysia. She would be happy. We all want to be a part of something big and with good results. But the only way we can be a part of that is if we work hard together with the other members of our Kechara. The time will pass. It can pass with you taking on difficulties or it can pass with you doing nothing. I feel it's better to work hard now and enjoy later than to enjoy nothing now and then end up nowhere later. Prayers and dedications are ok, but hard work must be part of the prayer. Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness the Dalai Lama seated here with His sacred mother. A mother who gives birth to great beings like Shakyamuni, Tsongkapa, Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, Trijang Rinpoche, etc must be a Buddha Herself, a highly realized Dakini, a powerful practitioner, or a lady who made prayers in previous lives to provide others with great dharma in one way or another. A lady of great spiritual merit or virtue.. I wanted to share this photo with you because if I ever met His Holiness' mother, I would prostrate to Her immediately. Beautiful picture. His Holiness is not ordinary for sure and neither could a being who gave birth to Him. Tibetans always said she was very saintly, gentle, simple and deeply spiritual. During Her lifetime many went to recieve Her blessings..Tsem Rinpoche

It's very revealing how when you give, offer and have something for them, they crowd around smiling, happy and easy. The minute you ask them to give something, contribute or really help out, they totally disappear. Handphones shut. No replies. No sound. As if you they never knew you. People like that make themselves 2nd rate, find 1st rate people to work with and move on. Recently I encountered some students like that!~ Tsem Rinpoche

Wesak Day May 5, 2012 at Kechara House. I gave refuge to 100 new persons last night. TR

Last night between 300-400 persons congregated at Kechara while I gave a talk to them on 'making a choice' and 'the power and purpose of stupas'. The talk has been taped and will be blogged once tape is ready. The talk was two hours and it flowed well for me although I had very little sleep. Towards the end of the talk I gave refuge vows to 100 new persons from different countries for this. When everything was done, I met up with a group of 15 and 5 from Shanghai. Had a nice dharma talk with them on how to make a centre grow and harmony. Passed out nice dharma gifts to all the visitors so they don't go home empty handed. Also seperately met some directors and movie producers that attended the talk and sought private time with me..these producers and directors are very well known locally. One is from Hong Hong. Got home around 5Am and saw so many gifts from people. Did a Manjushri dedication for all the people who offered gifts to me on Wesak day in gratitude. Also some people from Europe called in to Kechara to arrange flowers to be given to me last night. That was very sweet. I have so many flowers now..over 70 bouquets I would...guess. They have all been offered up on the shrine. Thank you. TR (May 5, 2012)

Karma exists and created constantly by our actions. Karma created in the past is fertile and will open up when the situation arises. We should never relax and think everything will be alright when there is so much volatile latent karma like a huge volcano temporarily dormant. We can do something about it though. We can 'manipulate' karma and here's how: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/kechara-13-depts/what-are-pujas-about-do-take-a-good-read.html

This picture of myself was taken in December 1987 in Kathmandu, Nepal. I was around 25 years old and I had just taken my ordination vows a few weeks ago from His Holiness Dalai Lama. I was a fresh and new monk that time. Shortly after this picture was taken, I travelled to South India to join with Gaden Monastery. Tsem Rinpoche

See the beautiful prayer flags fluttering behind me blessing the environment...Our Datuk May, Martin, Joe and Jeffrey did such a good job. Thank you team. Your work here has just started. The four of you will create something powerful and blessed here for thousands of people to come and get blessed. I am so happy for you. If we always do not understand Dharma, then that is a sign of not studying. If we always blame Dharma, it is a sign we do not know what dharma really is. If we always expect of the Dharma, then we are using Dharma in ineffective methods. If we find Dharma difficult, then it is because we are unwilling to accept it. If we give up the Dharma, we are get deeper into our sufferings without respite. If we complain about Dharma it is a sign we are looking for blame in the wrong places and not within ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

SO FANTASTIC! Me staring at rainbow. Love dm
****(April 22, 2012-Sunday-Kechara is very lucky. Many times when we are about to embark on something really beneficial or just finished something very good, we will often times witness a rainbow and there is no rain or clouds.Today again at KECHARA FOREST RETREAT after they finished their work in the evening another clear rainbow appeared in the clear sky reported to me by Datuk May and ten other Kecharians volunteering there today. See the beautiful picture of the rainbow...TR)

I prostrate to my Guru the consummate Lojong master who teaches us how to laugh at death by creating right causes n how to regret n cry at death by doing stupid things. Exciting indeed that we can do either.
I rather die w natural smile than a fake one made up by the embalmers.
Thank you for reminding we hv choice.
Gratefully yours
