Did you know that Mumu loves fruits and vegetables, and was on a long-term vegetarian diet BY CHOICE? He sure is one unique schnauzer. How many other dogs do you know who are Vegetarian?
Rinpoche has always encouraged others to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle and has even offered to make prayers and offerings for those who will commit to do so. Personally, I became a full vegetarian at the end of 2008 and have never looked back. It wasnt easy at the beginning because I still had cravings for some meat dishes. But its second nature now and I have no regrets.
Here’s a video to inspire you to become vegetarian too:

Aiyohhhhh look at his cute little face! How can you not want to give him a treat, or just let him get away with pure murder! Rinpoche has trained Mumu really well…I think with anyone else, the little monster would’ve turned into pure destruction – his cuteness will let him get away with anything! I remember Rinpoche saying that he put so much time and effort into training Mumu, so that when he grows up he is a good boy that everyone loves, and not scolds.
I think that’s another way we can show love to our animals, by training them properly. The problem is many people buy animals when they’re cute, and don’t train them properly. And when those animals grow older, they turn into absolute monsters so families give them away. With so many neglected and abandoned animals, it’s about time an animal sanctuary like Kechara Animal Sanctuary was established! ( http://www.kechara.com/animal-sanctuary/ )
When I first saw that Tsem Tulku Rinpoche had a schnautzer under his care, I was surprised, I actually did not expect that a high tibetan lama would have a dog, let alone a schnautzer…
Then I thought there was actually no reason why he souldn’t, and that I only made assumptions as to why a lama should or should not have a dog.
I had expectations, and I had assumed, perhaps this was one of Rinpoche’s first teaching to me, not to go towards something or someone with pre-conceived idea or with assumptions.
I recall a quotation from Rinpoche in “IF NOT NOW WHEN”, that says
“ASSUMPTION CREATES WAR, CLARIFICATION CREATES PEACE”
Wow, and I thought that my assumptions were “innocent”… How wrong I was.
