Jason Wu has ‘connection’ with his fashion subjects
Michelle Obama’s designer Jason Wu always has ”a connection” with the people he makes clothes for.
Jason Wu always has “a connection” with the people he is designing clothes for. The tailor famously designed the dress Michelle Obama wore for her husband’s inauguration as president, and counts the key to his success as always having his subject in mind when working on designs. He told People.com: “I think it’s important to have a connection with the person you’re dressing. “Fashion is so personal and I put a lot of me into everything that I do.” The 29-year-old sartorialist is astounded the dress he worked on for the first lady is now displayed in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. He added: “A few years ago all I wanted to do was succeed in fashion. I didn’t think my work would be in the museum.” Jason’s strong work ethic hasn’t changed despite his fame, and he still adds a personal touch to all the garments he produces. He said: “I’m so hands on. I’m on my knees doing the fitting all the time, for every single fitting. I don’t want to miss any part of it, because that’s why I’m in this industry. I wanted to do that.”

I like this story very much. It is yet another testimony that when we do something out of passion and when we have a clear understanding that the work we do, does have an impact on other people’s lives, we are likely to succeed. Jason Wu looks like he is in the trade because he loves the craft and he likes the connection with people. It does not seem like he is going for fame, or awards or money…which incidentally happened anyway as a result of pursuing a passion well.
I presume the dress the First Lady wears to the President’s inauguration must make an important statement. That statement also spoke for Jason Wu in this case.
Good for him!
Always believe in yourself and and put your heart and mind to it success will come. Many of us do not perserve and give up at the any difficult point of time. Last of stamina. If you do not put in the effort with your blood and tear how can success be yours. There is a chinese saying that ” Li bu dau bu chen cai”
I wonder how the dress of the First Lady looks like. Yes, passion and interest are contributing factors to success while karma plays a bigger role.
There is so much passion and enthusiasm that boils inside Jason Wu, he get down and dirty right from measuring, drawing, designing, sewing, producing, fitting and altering all by himself, just amazes me how a young man like him put so much of passion into what he is doing, and putting others needs and the emotion of the wearer as first priority, rather than ‘im right about this, this suits you’ attitude.
Furthermore, he is so down to earth even his creation is being displayed at Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. something to learn and contemplate from this article.
Thank You Rinpoche for this posting.
How true it seems when someone remarked that “every fashion gives us a real Fairytale of success” as in the case of Jason Wu. That moment happened when Michelle Obama picked Jason Wu’s ivory one-shouldered gown to wear to her husband’s historic inauguration. Since that iconic moment, Jason Wu’s polished and feminine aesthetic has been catapulted to fame, and for two years, was said to have been selected by Swarovski to join an elite cohort of designers to partake from their endless Aladdin’s cave of treasures, as reported. Though having travelled and lived in many places which may have helped him to mature as a designer, yet he allegedly claimed that his iconic-style of growing up was definitely due to his mother’s wearing of all-cool YSL suits in the “eighties”, which constituted to be one his biggest source of inspiration. Such filail piety and his work ethics certainly go a long way to get him where he is now, despite his fame!
Believe in yourself and do it! Never give up even if you fail some times. Persevere and you can do it! This is an encouraging life story…
