(Personal Attendant) Rinpoche taking care of student who was ill

Jul 13, 2012 | Views: 620

This section features articles and true stories written by Tsem Rinpoche’s personal attendant Seng Piow. Being Rinpoche’s personal attendant means that I am able to witness real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. I consider myself extremely fortunate, and at the same time it is also a great challenge to instill Dharma in my life 24/7.

Over the years I have witnessed many cases of how Rinpoche helped many people in both worldly and supramundane ways, it is my wish that through these stories many will be inspired to achieve the state of compassion and attainments like Tsem Rinpoche, so that many more sentient beings can be helped.

Seng Piow

—————–

Few days ago Liaison Ooi Beng Kooi fell sick and Tsem Rinpoche was very concerned, so Rinpoche sent His students to deliver food for Beng Kooi, and personally went over to Beng Kooi’s house to make sure she ate well, and Rinpoche gave her a healing massage after that and sent her to rest. Tsem Rinpoche’s compassion is not only shown in his teachings on the throne, but Rinpoche really practices what he taught off the throne as shown by many of these examples of going all the way to care for sentient beings.

Rinpoche cares for anyone and everyone who needs help. Care comes from within. If we are not taught to care, we can learn to care.I believe action speaks louder than words.

We should all love Rinpoche as much or even more than how much he loves us. Rinpoche’s schedule is always packed with the ultimate objective of benefiting others and showing love and care to all sentient beings. Thank you Rinpoche. May you live long and continue to be with us.

When im in the midst of putting this note, Beng Kooi is at chat box sharing on e-Division information. I hope she is well and healthy by now. Most of all, hope she will take good care of herself while practicing Dharma work. All of us are lucky to have Rinpoche as our guru, always around for us regardless any condition. Rejoice for all of us _/\_

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article.
    Please take good care :)

For Rinpoche, care and compassion and benefiting others are his 24/7 focus. Here, he shows care for Beng Kooi (head of E-Div )when she was ill, like a mother for her child.

Lately, he’s been making sure that departments that work round the clock, like E-Div, has food at all times. At past 1am this morning, I had a peek into their world via blog-chat. They were all enjoying themselves with delicious cup-noodles sent over by Rinpoche!

Beng Kooi works extremely hard and smart. Rinpoche is extremely passionate. That’s all I can say…

My eyes filled with tears when i saw this picture. Many people would not know that how much Rinpoche cares about His students. Beng Kooi is one of Rinpoche’s students who can work day in day out without sleep for dharma. She has to chased to go home. But When she’s home, she will still open up her laptop and work again. Many of the students who work very closely with Rinpoche, they go all the way for others. Rinpoche can literally cook for His students who worked very hard for dharma. Where else can find a Guru like this?

  8. Judy Lam on Jul 13, 2012 at 3:49 pm

Beng Kooi always worked hard and is very committed to her work. Am sure she has recovered under the love and care of Rinpoche, who always show us the way to love and respect everyone including animals. Thank You Rinpoche

Thank you Seng Piow for sharing this story on how Rinpoche loves and cares for all of us. Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion to all sentient beings always brings tears of joy to my eyes.

However, what makes the tears flow more is when this question arises in my mind, WHAT DO I GIVE BACK TO MY PRECIOUS GURU. So little because the greatest gift to my Guru is my mind transformation. How I struggle for that to happen and how often I would disappoint my Guru.

I will constantly read the 8 verses of mind transformation and 9 attitudes of Guru Devotion and until I die I will never give up.

May I, one day return my Guru’s kindness and compassion through my mind transformation, for my personal betterment and benefit of others around me.

Rinpoche always care to all of his students. Rinpoche genuine compassion and sincerity has been consistent and it’s a great learning for me to take care our dharma brothers and sisters as they are very hardworking.

Thanks Seng Piow for the sharing and Rinpoche unconditional love always felt by Rinpoche action and we all can never able to repay but by only work harder in our dharma work to benefits others.

  12. Carmen on Jul 14, 2012 at 12:54 am

Having Rinpoche massage you is like having a Buddha’s healing hands on you. The energy that can be transferred from Rinpoche to Beng Kooi, is healing. It’s like how energy transference works, reiki and energy healing, but of course with Rinpoche, it’s akin to being treated and healed by a Buddha. How fortunate.

Beng Kooi works very hard, and when she falls sick, she still pushes herself to do her work, so that others are not affected and they are benefitted regardless. Rinpoche has said that everyone deserves a friend like Beng Kooi. After being her PA for some time and observing her, there is no doubt about that statement. I’m glad to have met BK and the many more Beng Kooi-like people here in Kechara.

Rinpoche’s compassion, kindness, and care is endless. This is a shining example of a Lama who puts into action all that he preaches on the throne. On or off the throne, Rinpoche’s qualities remain as the Lamrim is in Rinpoche.

    Dear Beng Kooi ,

Please recovery speedy. And take good care your body. We need the body to make us go more far !!

    Dear all,

I love Rinpoche. Because Rinpoche always care in action.

We must learn from it !!

Rinpoche’s care and compassion for everyone and every being is consistent. He is there for everyone 24/7. He is shining example of a Lama who puts compassion into action. Beng Kooi works very hard with no complaints and even though she is sick she still push herself. With Rinpoche’s healing touch, may Beng Kooi get well soon.

  15. Milly on Jul 14, 2012 at 11:43 am

Rinpoche’s care and compassion encompasses all sentient beings all the time (on & off throne). Many people who are not students of Rinpoche have also received help. Beng Kooi works very hard but she must take care of her health too to enable her to soar in her Dharma work. I wish you speedy recovery.

  16. Siong Woan on Jul 14, 2012 at 1:45 pm

If I am to name anyone who truly and compassionately walk his talk, he will be Rinpoche. His teaching does not change and he practices what he taught on the throne and over social media.

While being the lucky ones who have the merits of meeting our Guru in tis life time, we ‘ask not what our guru can do for us, ask what we could do for our guru’ so he can help more people.

  17. EricLee KHJB on Jul 14, 2012 at 3:30 pm

  18. jennifer on Jul 14, 2012 at 4:08 pm

Rinpoche is the true embodiment of Love, Compassion and Care. The utmost detailed care Rinpoche has shown and given to everyone is so very very heartwarming.
Behg Kooi, please rest well and recover most soon.

Thank you Seng Piow. For sharing this information about our Compassionate Guru with us.For some, seeing is believing but we never doubted our kind guru love for his students as this is often shown in his concern through his Dharma sharing with us.
Dear Beng Kooi may you get well soon, you have lots of friends who is very concern for your speedy recovery.

  20. lucy yap on Jul 14, 2012 at 5:37 pm

Love does not have to be confined to “romantic” love.It can extend to include people whom we truly love and to those closest to us..These include our immediate family, friends and other such individuals who have left a mark on our lives.
Rinpoche always love and care for his students and everyone alike.
Everyone of us have benefited from Rinpoche’s kindness and care.

  21. Girlie Ooi on Jul 14, 2012 at 6:50 pm

BK works so hard, she does not even take a rest. The only time for her to rest is when she falls sick and that is bad for her body. Here Rinpoche’s care goes into action, showing us that spontaneity and compassion that comes from Him.

    Take care BK.

  22. Andrew James Boon on Jul 15, 2012 at 4:38 pm

Beng Kooi is like a robot. She pushes herself all the time and often beyond the limitations of her own body. The beauty of it is that she is convinced she is above the limitations of her body and will push herself till there is an intervention. Rinpoche knows this and of course will intervene when is needed because Rinpoche cares for each and everyone of his students and all sentient beings.

BK’s (as she is affectionately known to us in Kechara) focus is clear and goes all the way in serving Rinpoche and the Dharma. She is indeed the epitome of a model student.

She is resilient, thoughtful, intelligent, absorbs teachings like a sponge, intuitive, has initiative and is resourceful.

    Get well soon BK!

Thank you again Rinpoche for showing us your compassion and Dharma in action!

H.E Tsem Tulku Rinpoche never fails to give the best he can do to take care of his students, here are some examples on how he has shown to my brother and me… Like the time he gave us a Manjushri Statue, some comics and story’s on The Buddha or the time he gave us some Star Wars toys, a bottle of vitamins and he even gave us a photo frame of 9 Wonderful Buddha’s which are Tsongkhapa, Manjushri, Setrap, Green Tara, White Tara, Vajrayoghini, Medicine Buddha, Four Armed Avalokiteshvara, Shakyamuni. He aso takes care of his students by making sure they eat. This shows how kind and compassionate he is.

  24. henry ooi on Jul 15, 2012 at 10:16 pm

The first time I interacted with Beng Kooi (BK) was when she volunteered to check stocks in Kechara Mystical Treasures, then situated in Bangsar. The next time was when we were in Bali with Rinpoche and a few other Kecharians. Beng Kooi may be small in stature but she zipped around places we visited like a mouse, no pun intended. Since then until now, BK is energetic as ever and very hardworking. Kechara eDiv would not be the same without her.

  25. Albert Ratchaga on Jul 15, 2012 at 10:48 pm

A normal Boss from any of the company will just approve the medical leave for the staff who fall sick, they would not do anything else like go visit them etc. Because there is nothing to do with the company, it is just plain trade of business benefits of each other.

But Tsem Rinpoche is different, when his student fall sick, he does go visit them in house or hospital, and not only that, he will personally make sure they are well taken care of before he leave the place. Such compassion and care towards the students, where else in this world can we find?

  26. pat on Jul 16, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Beng Kooi never sleeps and always working and running around doing dharma work……something to admire and learn from her… go all the way for Dharma.Rinpoche always love and care for everyone regardless of who, what & when…

this is what we hardly see offline, truly compassion in action. The love and care of Rinpoche to his students is just without words to describe, pure caring and kindness. May Rinpoche have a good health and long life, may many more sentient benefit from Rinpoche kindness and activity. :)

I love watching this video about Dharma work that was recorded by Rinpoche a few years ago. I have watched it a few times already and constantly go back to this blog post to watch it again every now and then… it helps me a lot to keep my motivation for Dharma in place. Perhaps it’s time for you to listen to this Dharma talk again! Here’s the link =) http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/me/dharma-work-attitude-tdl.html

Went out with a group of my writers tonight. We had gone to Petaling Street to purchase a lot of offering items for Manjushri…afterwards…. Had a nice meal at a restaurant specializing in China’s Dongbey province. The place is simple and not pricy but the food is mouth watering and superb. The 8 of us gulped down the food and boy was it satisfying. You can’t imagine. Then we adjourned to Delicious to have some coffee/tea/lychee tea and cakes and lively conversation and pick games. Had a good time spending time with wonderful people some of which I have known for years. Now doing sadhana and sleep soon. Tsem Rinpoche

For Ashlee – Dear Ashlee, I am happy to hear about your wish to help the animals. Each day of us not eating meat for the duration of our lifetime will accumulate into hundreds if not thousands of lives saved. I do need a lot of help with KAS and thank you very much for helping. When i first came to kechara, Alex was the first few people who shared his knowledge with me and I appreciate you both very much. With the blessings of Rinpoche, let us continue our journey together to manifest a safe haven for the animals as well as play an influential role to instill a caring nature in our community.

Being one of the closer student around Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, i do experience a lot of miracles, from someone who are very sick got heal or rain stop at certain moment that is urgent, some may think it’s all coincidence, let me tell you a real truth story that happened an hour ago. H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, like to rescue animals such as fishes, dogs, birds and etc. In our new Kechara Forest Retreat land, Rinpoche have kindly requested one of the liaison Beng Kooi to build a fish pond for all the fishes that Rinpoche rescued. The contractors that we got in to build the fish pond was slow and delay a few deadline that they gave. Just 2 days ago, Rinpoche instructed the fish pond project to be call off and all workers should leave the fish pond site as soon as possible. While we still thinking why Rinpoche cancel this project as it’s one of Rinpoche wishes to build a very comfortable place for fishes. Something happened an hour ago, there was a big bang came from the fish pond site, the whole artificial waterfall wall collapse without people go near it. This artificial waterfall wall was made out of cement, wire mesh, metal bar and etc, it weigh easily 200-300 Kgs. Luckily Rinpoche have giving us warming do not go near this waterfall 2 days ago, and should stop all construction wall, just imagine the workers are still working when the waterfall fall, some people might died or serious injury now. Due to humility Rinpoche will not say a word or show his premonitions power, this happened many many times. Rinpoche just save a few life without them knowing it. A lot of people will think why such horrible thing can happened in a holy land like Kechara Forest Retreat, a Buddhist site should always safe from all accident, but we believe if a place that will be use to benefiting thousands, a lot of obstacles will appear, I will take this artificial waterfall accident as part of clearing our negative karma, may all the negative karma from all of us be cleared. It’s glad that this happened before we move any fishes into this pond. In Tibetan culture, it’s an auspicious omen which represent bad obstacles have been cleared, and all our project will grow very smoothly later. It’s very important we follow our lama’s instruction/advice, even though sometime we might not understand it truly, because a real lama will never do anything which is not beneficial.

For tsemtulku – My dear Rinpoche,Alex & I met you 10 years ago. Because of your precious Dharma teachings & guidance, we are able to transform ourselves. Because of your Dharma vision, we now have 14 Departments for people with different skills & interest to be involve and for us to create merits in virtuous activities. I have been a part time vegetarian for sometime. Somehow i just wasn’t able to be a full vegetarian. After watching your teaching on “Integrity, Keeping promises & Vows”, it finally hit me. It is so true that having vows are not meant to “Imprison” us but really to help us transform positively to kick away our negative habits. I realize that from young, we have been condition to think that we have to eat meat and meat is delicious and it is part of life to consume meat in our daily diet. Hence we ignore the sufferings of others in order to indulge in our own taste buds. Lately, i have develop myself into feeding strays nearby my neighbourhood and I’m compelled to help strays via Kechara Animal Sanctuary. After deep contemplation, i realize that i cannot be wanting to help KAS and yet still eating meat. The equation is just so wrong. Now i can see clearly, it makes it so much easier to be a full vegetarian. Taking the vegetarian vow is not an imprisonment but it is another level of commitment to not be the source of pain to other sentient beings. It is a choice that we make to kick away our preconception of consuming meat for a balance diet.If one is against animal cruelty, then one should practice vegetarianism. Can’t be pitching for animal rights when you are still eating them. My daughter once said to me, “Mommy, animals are our friends so we shouldn’t be eating them”. I find that so profound coming from a kid. I’m very sure my family members will not be supportive of me going vegetarian but I pray that one day they will also come to the same realization as i have.
I humbly offer to Rinpoche my vegetarian vow and may it be dedicated to Rinpoche’s long life. May it also be dedicated to my family, loved ones and friends.
I will continue to get involve in KAS activities to assist Pastor Susan.
    Thank you my dear Lama.

Most amusing is this unparalleled ingenuity of the highly inspired dramatic slogan (self-explanatory) in the cover picture of http://www.facebook.com/MBFSG?fref=ts which HHDL and all Buddhas of the past, Buddhas of the present and Buddhas yet tocome, correspondingly are bowing their heads in deferential obeisance. Are we now transported to the Age of Somnambulism??? To earthlings, the most crucial life sustaining factor is NO AIR, NO LIFE, in so far as planet Earth and basic common sense are concerned.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

We are packing up all my items at my private residence (Haven) to send to Kechara Forest Retreat right now. There are about 30 Kecharians here helping. Even Ms Han who is under treatment for cancer is here right now in Haven helping (photo of her with scarf). She is really devoted. Everyone wanted her to stay home and rest and she insists on coming to help. Wow. Tsem Rinpoche

Kyabje Chatral Rinpoche: "I am just an ordinary sentient being and there is nothing special about me. I just follow the teachings of Lord Buddha. Without any cheating on my part, I stand firmly on the ground in practicing the Dharma and in helping all sentient beings. I wish that all sentient beings could let go of the acts of self-deception and self-aggrandizement, so that they can really practice the Dharma in order to liberate themselves from cyclic existence and to help other sentient beings. Otherwise, it will be too late when they are feeling remorseful!"

We should have compassion for butchers. When we stop eating meat, we don’t make create the causes for them to slaughter animals contributing to their killing karma. We may say it’s ok to eat meat, but someone has to do the killing and collect the negative karma. Go vegetarian. It’s good for the butchers, the animals and ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

Kechara Liaisons are leaders who head and run our 13 depts within Kechara. Liaison Paul heads the arts, statue making, florist and Gompa depts. Yes he has huge portfolios. And he does a good job! Paul took a group of people to Kechara Forest Retreat today with Pastor Yek Yee to introduce to them about our projects. Paul tirelessly/kindly talks to many people this way. It's people like Paul who contributes to Kechara reaching out to many and benefitting them. When we do dharma and not see it as work, it's never a burden. We should see it as a way for ourselves to grow and creating the space for others to grow also. Kind people like Paul inspire me. Thank you Paul. Tsem Rinpoche

Congratulations to Andrew Boon! He has requested and I have agreed for him to be in charge and oversee till completion the large outdoor Medicine Buddha on the hill project in Kechara Forest Retreat. Andrew will also carry on his other portfolios of writing and Ladrang work. I am very proud of him and congratulate him for his commitment, tenacity and sheer good motivation to do this project. When our Kecharians move up, take on more and accept more dharma work, it shows they have grown inside and will help others to grow! I offer my prayers to the Three Jewels for Andrew and all the people who will be benefitted by the presence of this sacred outdoor Buddha for the public! Humbly, Tsem Rinpoche

A change from not noticing anything to springing to action: When I have a migraine as I do now, Seng Piow without me saying anything will jump up and start grabbing the massage sticks to poke/prod/rub the pressure points on my neck to relieve my migraine. That is true kindness/love/appreciation/care manifesting into action. Different from before.- I like when I am/was a cause for someone to become more caring. If indeed I was the cause I may say humbly. Thank you Seng Piow for your care. Thank you everyone who has become more caring. Your lives become richer and you enhance the lives around you. That is dharma. That is fulfilling for me and yourselves. Tsem Rinpoche

Aki is the old African Grey that was abandoned by his owner. Because he is old, no one wanted him. Well we wanted him and we took him and in and love him. He is in a big aviary and he likes his cage. We leave his cage open at all times so he can go in and out as he likes. His cage is his security blanket. Cute. He gets nice food and sunshine daily and also we play monks chanting for him to be blessed. We love you Aki. Tsem Rinpoche

This little birdie was at a pet shop. He has maimed leg, permanent damage to his wing and cannot fly and also one eye blind. I don't think anyone would want the poor thing, so I adopted him and keep him safe, fed and with lots of fresh air. He's also in a large aviary so he can be with other birds and not be alone. He is alert, active, and has a good appetite. I like him very much and will make sure he is safe, happy and has a good life. I name him Lucky. Lucky will always be safe now. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear all, This is Paris interviewing my sister Lidshma. She mentions when I was very young the monks would have me sit with them to do the Buddhist services which was highly irregular in New Jersey. They didn't have lay people even children sit with them to do the services. So she mentions this was very unusual in a good way. My sister Lidshma here mentions my mother (Dana) would always catch me in the night in my room in the dark sitting on my bed meditating and doing mantras. I did that always and had to avoid being caught by my mother. I did it nightly. So I did it secretly and without her catching me. If she did catch me, then there would be big drama and problems depending on the mood my mom was in. My practicing dharma/meditating/praying/mantras was not allowed at all by my parents. They were fiercely against it always. My sister remembers this here. My sister lives in Texas, USA. And our bio group had gone to USA to interview my family for my bio book. This is a snippet.
