4 New Full-Time Staff – Swee Keong, Yurie Lim, Phillis Chin & Mdm Lim Han Nee

Jan 5, 2012 | Views: 523

Dear friends,

Within this past month, 4 more people have decided to join Kechara full-time! I got the blog team to write a short bio on each of them… and truly rejoice for these 4 Kecharians! Please read up on them as they are interesting people and leave them a message of congratulations, perhaps?

These are:

1. Yong Swee Keong
2. Yurie Lim
3. Phillis Chin
4. Madam Lim Han Nee

I would like to wish them all a warm welcome to Kechara. I wish you well and I wish you the best from my heart. Mdme Lim Han Nee is very special. She is retired, but with the support of her husband, she came out of retirement to work in Kechara full time. She said she would like to work for Dharma for the rest of her life as it gives meaning to her retirement. What an inspiration.

Put your best forward and join our goals. Be a part of a dream of spirituality in the 21st century where we work together to build KWPC.  We let people understand that working for a spiritual organization could have even more benefits than the ordinary run of the mill secular job. We bring happiness, hope and direction to many that feel and understand materialism is not everything. I recommend along with your job, learn up on the Dharma if you feel an aptitude, then you will have greater job satisfaction for sure.

sweekeong1. Yong Swee Keong

Yong Swee Keong is a 30-year-old Malaysian Multimedia University (MMU) graduate. He first found out about Kechara on a lowyat.net forum, as he wanted to do some charity work and there was a thread discussing Kechara Soup Kitchen. Wanting to know more, Swee Keong looked up Kechara.com only to be impressed at how modern and regularly updated it was. His parents even remarked that they knew who KSK were as they always appeared in the newspapers.

Swee Keong’s career had brought him to many countries, being mostly based in Japan. As an application consultant for a company who are software vendors for banks, his life was fairly comfortable. However, he felt that there was more to life. He started to watch Rinpoche’s YouTube channel, which led him to purchase the book Call Me Paris. He said that Rinpoche kept mentioning someone called “Paris” in the videos, and he wanted to know who she was!

About a year ago, he came to Kechara House alone. Coincidentally, it was just before Rinpoche’s birthday and there was a Chinese Setrap puja going on – so he joined in. After that puja he joined in every single different puja, although he pointed out that he had never chanted any mantras before, prior to Kechara.

On Rinpoche’s birthday, he helped out as a volunteer and from there his volunteering initiatives snowballed.

What made him take the leap to join full-time was when Rinpoche showed severe signs of serious illness in October 2011. It made him think twice about what was precious in life, and what he should be spending his lifetime doing. He didn’t want to be the one who missed out on working in the Dharma while Rinpoche was alive.

Now, he has joined E-division as a software engineer.

yurielim'2. Lim Yan Shan (Yurie)

Yurie is a 24-year-old UTAR College graduate from Ipoh. Having studied graphic design, upon graduation she joined the company Photo and Print to exercise her skills learnt at university.

At the end of 2011, she decided to resign from her job wanting to expand her horizons. Searching for a job, she saw that Kechara was looking to hire graphic designers. As she was studying Japanese at SS2 (with Kechara Paradise below her tuition center), to her Kechara was just a statue-selling shop. When she expressed to her friends about her interest in Kechara, they thought that Kechara only sold vegetarian food (as they knew about Kechara Oasis)… and when she mentioned Kechara to her parents, they too thought that Kechara only sold statues – their regular eatery was near Kechara Discovery!

With all these mixed ideas on what Kechara was about, she met up with Sock Wan – who explained to Yurie the 13 departments in Kechara.

Now, Yurie has decided to join Kechara E-division full-time… bringing her creative skills to the organization!

Phillis3. Phillis Chin Xin Yin

Phillis is the beautiful 28 year old sister of Helena Chin.

For the past 10 years, Phillis’s career revolved around glamorous but hard work. Working with Barcardi Martini, Malaysia, she also did a range of miscellaneous jobs, such as fashion and hair-shows, various product launching, event usherette and GP/GT glamour girl.

Through her school mate, Louis, she found out about Kechara and volunteered at a Kechara Soup Kitchen distribution round. From there, she volunteered at the Gompa opening – only to decide in mid-2011, that she wanted to do Kechara part-time.

At that time, many people in Kechara knew of Phillis as the shy and soft-spoken sister of Helena who helped out at Kechara Discovery. However, at the end of November 2011, Phillis decided to join full-time!

She said that her late mother had learnt Dharma by herself and at times, with a good friend. Whatever that she had learnt, she would relay it to her children. When Phillis heard Rinpoche’s teachings, she felt that it was very different from conventional teaching methods… but similar to the way her mother taught her. She thought to herself, “I finally found a real Guru”.

The people in Kechara make her feel like she’s part of a family – a family that can learn Dharma together.

Phillis is now with Kechara Discovery.

aimoy4. Lim Han Nee

As someone who has gained much respect as she grew older, everyone affectionately calls her Madam Lim Han Nee.

Madam Lim Han Nee has a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters degree in Education. Starting out as a secondary school teacher, she then went on to becoming a school principal. As a natural learner and educator, she’s very interested in Dharma teachings – and even seized the opportunity to studying the Lamrim for 2 years, under the guidance of Pastor Ngeow. While studying, she had also learnt up different pujas, prayers and practices.

In 2005, she found out about Kechara through her sister Mrs Chuah and feels like her family has grown by folds since. She feels like Kechara is one big Dharma family, with many Dharma brothers and sisters whom she has come to appreciate for their care and kindness.

While most people are retiring at the age of 66, Madam Lim Han Nee has decided to join Kechara full-time! She says that she has received so much love and care from Tsem Rinpoche and Kechara that it was time to give back and to share the same care towards others. The sad passing of Justin Ripley, whom she greatly admires, served to be a wake-up call for her to put Dharma teachings into action.

Madam Lim Han Nee is now with Kechara House.

So happy to see more people join Kechara be a full-time dharma worker. It is so lucky can work in dharma. Of course, I want to say CONGRATULATIONS to four of them:)

I remember three or four ago, Rinpoche says he want to prove that doing dharma in full time and you still can self-sustain and survive. At that time, not more than five full time staff in Kechara, now our full-time staffs more than hundreds!!! Yes, of course what Rinpoche says is right and proved by result. Incredible!!!

Many full-time staffs who I knew them two or three ago, almost all of them are transform a lot, my point is dharma work not only can benefit others, actually the fundamental logic is you will received those benefit directly. For example nowadays I became more happier and calm while difficulties appear in front of me. I believe many full-time dharma worker have same experience like me.

Human nature is very simple, something you feel is good and benefit then you will put your afford to do it. Because of this feel good factor then you starting share with others people. By your transformation then people will start his or her interest into Buddha’s teaching or Dharma. How nice every of us can show ourself as a real example to attract into dharma, how nice is it!

Congratulations to Mdm Lim, Phillis, Yurie and Yong!

It is only natural for people to work but unfortunately most jobs are not Dharmic in nature and therefore do not cultivate a Dharmic mindset. Instead the opposite is often the case and before we know it, decades pass and we begin to define our lives by the jobs we do.

Therefore it is an incredible opportunity to be allowed to work within a fun and healthy environment, learn a wide range of holistic skills, earn more than just sustenance (which immediately provides freedom the “Money-No-Enough” syndrome) and build a career which has no expiration date. Dharma work is the only work that keeps paying you dividends long after you are no longer able to perform the job physically.

The early pioneers as well as present staff make it easy for people to practice practical dharma. It is literally Plug and Play/Pray.

Once again, a big Congratulations to all of them.

Being one of the closer student around Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, i do experience a lot of miracles, from someone who are very sick got heal or rain stop at certain moment that is urgent, some may think it’s all coincidence, let me tell you a real truth story that happened an hour ago. H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, like to rescue animals such as fishes, dogs, birds and etc. In our new Kechara Forest Retreat land, Rinpoche have kindly requested one of the liaison Beng Kooi to build a fish pond for all the fishes that Rinpoche rescued. The contractors that we got in to build the fish pond was slow and delay a few deadline that they gave. Just 2 days ago, Rinpoche instructed the fish pond project to be call off and all workers should leave the fish pond site as soon as possible. While we still thinking why Rinpoche cancel this project as it’s one of Rinpoche wishes to build a very comfortable place for fishes. Something happened an hour ago, there was a big bang came from the fish pond site, the whole artificial waterfall wall collapse without people go near it. This artificial waterfall wall was made out of cement, wire mesh, metal bar and etc, it weigh easily 200-300 Kgs. Luckily Rinpoche have giving us warming do not go near this waterfall 2 days ago, and should stop all construction wall, just imagine the workers are still working when the waterfall fall, some people might died or serious injury now. Due to humility Rinpoche will not say a word or show his premonitions power, this happened many many times. Rinpoche just save a few life without them knowing it. A lot of people will think why such horrible thing can happened in a holy land like Kechara Forest Retreat, a Buddhist site should always safe from all accident, but we believe if a place that will be use to benefiting thousands, a lot of obstacles will appear, I will take this artificial waterfall accident as part of clearing our negative karma, may all the negative karma from all of us be cleared. It’s glad that this happened before we move any fishes into this pond. In Tibetan culture, it’s an auspicious omen which represent bad obstacles have been cleared, and all our project will grow very smoothly later. It’s very important we follow our lama’s instruction/advice, even though sometime we might not understand it truly, because a real lama will never do anything which is not beneficial.

For tsemtulku – My dear Rinpoche,Alex & I met you 10 years ago. Because of your precious Dharma teachings & guidance, we are able to transform ourselves. Because of your Dharma vision, we now have 14 Departments for people with different skills & interest to be involve and for us to create merits in virtuous activities. I have been a part time vegetarian for sometime. Somehow i just wasn’t able to be a full vegetarian. After watching your teaching on “Integrity, Keeping promises & Vows”, it finally hit me. It is so true that having vows are not meant to “Imprison” us but really to help us transform positively to kick away our negative habits. I realize that from young, we have been condition to think that we have to eat meat and meat is delicious and it is part of life to consume meat in our daily diet. Hence we ignore the sufferings of others in order to indulge in our own taste buds. Lately, i have develop myself into feeding strays nearby my neighbourhood and I’m compelled to help strays via Kechara Animal Sanctuary. After deep contemplation, i realize that i cannot be wanting to help KAS and yet still eating meat. The equation is just so wrong. Now i can see clearly, it makes it so much easier to be a full vegetarian. Taking the vegetarian vow is not an imprisonment but it is another level of commitment to not be the source of pain to other sentient beings. It is a choice that we make to kick away our preconception of consuming meat for a balance diet.If one is against animal cruelty, then one should practice vegetarianism. Can’t be pitching for animal rights when you are still eating them. My daughter once said to me, “Mommy, animals are our friends so we shouldn’t be eating them”. I find that so profound coming from a kid. I’m very sure my family members will not be supportive of me going vegetarian but I pray that one day they will also come to the same realization as i have.
I humbly offer to Rinpoche my vegetarian vow and may it be dedicated to Rinpoche’s long life. May it also be dedicated to my family, loved ones and friends.
I will continue to get involve in KAS activities to assist Pastor Susan.
    Thank you my dear Lama.

Most amusing is this unparalleled ingenuity of the highly inspired dramatic slogan (self-explanatory) in the cover picture of http://www.facebook.com/MBFSG?fref=ts which HHDL and all Buddhas of the past, Buddhas of the present and Buddhas yet tocome, correspondingly are bowing their heads in deferential obeisance. Are we now transported to the Age of Somnambulism??? To earthlings, the most crucial life sustaining factor is NO AIR, NO LIFE, in so far as planet Earth and basic common sense are concerned.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Without any cheating on my part, I stand firmly on the ground in practicing the Dharma and in helping all sentient beings. We should have compassion for butchers. When we stop eating meat, we don’t make create the causes for them to slaughter animals contributing to their killing karma. We may say it’s ok to eat meat, but someone has to do the killing and collect the negative karma. Go vegetarian. It’s good for the butchers, the animals and ourselves.~Tsem Rinpoche

Kechara Liaisons are leaders who head and run our 13 depts within Kechara. Liaison Paul heads the arts, statue making, florist and Gompa depts. Yes he has huge portfolios. And he does a good job! Paul took a group of people to Kechara Forest Retreat today with Pastor Yek Yee to introduce to them about our projects. Paul tirelessly/kindly talks to many people this way. It's people like Paul who contributes to Kechara reaching out to many and benefitting them. When we do dharma and not see it as work, it's never a burden. We should see it as a way for ourselves to grow and creating the space for others to grow also. Kind people like Paul inspire me. Thank you Paul. Tsem Rinpoche

Andrew will also carry on his other portfolios of writing and Ladrang work. I am very proud of him and congratulate him for his commitment, tenacity and sheer good motivation to do this project. When our Kecharians move up, take on more and accept more dharma work, it shows they have grown inside and will help others to grow! I offer my prayers to the Three Jewels for Andrew and all the people who will be benefitted by the presence of this sacred outdoor Buddha for the public! Humbly, Tsem Rinpoche

A change from not noticing anything to springing to action: When I have a migraine as I do now, Seng Piow without me saying anything will jump up and start grabbing the massage sticks to poke/prod/rub the pressure points on my neck to relieve my migraine. That is true kindness/love/appreciation/care manifesting into action. Different from before.- I like when I am/was a cause for someone to become more caring. If indeed I was the cause I may say humbly. Thank you Seng Piow for your care. Thank you everyone who has become more caring. Your lives become richer and you enhance the lives around you. That is dharma. That is fulfilling for me and yourselves. Tsem Rinpoche

Very touching video...Buddha said it was very important to visit the four holy places associated with Him before our deaths. Remembering this, I had instructed Paul to take this senior group to Bodhgaya and make sure they are able to plant imprints. Aki is the old African Grey that was abandoned by his owner. Because he is old, no one wanted him. Well we wanted him and we took him and in and love him. He is in a big aviary and he likes his cage. We leave his cage open at all times so he can go in and out as he likes. His cage is his security blanket. Cute. He gets nice food and sunshine daily and also we play monks chanting for him to be blessed. We love you Aki. Tsem Rinpoche

This little birdie was at a pet shop. He has maimed leg, permanent damage to his wing and cannot fly and also one eye blind. I don't think anyone would want the poor thing, so I adopted him and keep him safe, fed and with lots of fresh air. He's also in a large aviary so he can be with other birds and not be alone. He is alert, active, and has a good appetite. I like him very much and will make sure he is safe, happy and has a good life. I name him Lucky. Lucky will always be safe now. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear all, This is Paris interviewing my sister Lidshma. She mentions when I was very young the monks would have me sit with them to do the Buddhist services which was highly irregular in New Jersey. They didn't have lay people even children sit with them to do the services. So she mentions this was very unusual in a good way. My sister Lidshma here mentions my mother (Dana) would always catch me in the night in my room in the dark sitting on my bed meditating and doing mantras. I did that always and had to avoid being caught by my mother. I did it nightly. So I did it secretly and without her catching me. If she did catch me, then there would be big drama and problems depending on the mood my mom was in. My practicing dharma/meditating/praying/mantras was not allowed at all by my parents. They were fiercely against it always. My sister remembers this here. My sister lives in Texas, USA. And our bio group had gone to USA to interview my family for my bio book. This is a snippet.
